The Hellmouth

"So do you think you can really do it?" Spike asked, his English accent cool as the night's wind.

The young vampire nodded. "I know I can. Believe me, I've got quite a few girls in my time. They love the lost puppy dog act."

Spike looked doubtfully at the young vampire. "I don't know... The Slayer, she may seem dumb, but she can catch on to acts pretty quickly. I think she might suspect something."

The younger vampire shook his head. "Trust me Spike, let me take the job, I'll get that slayer for you. She'll have no idea what hit her." He grinned.

Spike nodded once. "Okay, I'm giving you one chance. But let me warn you, you fail me and I swear your death will not be pleasant." The younger vampire, not even looking intimidated, smiled once, his teeth gleaming in the darkness...

 March 11.

SunnyDale High School.

"So Buffy, is this like an engagement thing with you and Angel?" Xander asked suspiciously holding up Buffy's hand scrutinizing it.

Buffy jerked her hand away. "Don't be silly Xander. It's on the right hand, not left."

Xander smirked knowingly. "Wake up Buffy! Putting the ring on the right hand, it's the oldest trick in the book!" Buffy just rolled her eyes, as Willow came up behind them.

"Hey you two, did you hear about the new kid?"

Xander's eyes widened with interest. "Nope, is she a hottie?"

Willow smirked at him. "She is a HE, and yes he's defiantly good looking."

Xander looking disappointed spoke. "Oh well then who cares? So anyways ladies, you hitting the Bronze tonight?" At that moment the new guy chose to walk through the halls of SunnyDale. Buffy felt her mouth drop open, as she saw one of the hottest guys in her life. His hair was a dark brown, touched with red. His eyes were a dark blue, like the ocean at midnight; and that bod... Well, he definitely worked out. Buffy glanced at Willow.

"Willow, you said he was cute, not a living, breathing model!"

Willow smiled. "Sorry, Buffy, I guess it just slipped my mind how cute he was."

Buffy started at Willow in disbelieve. "That is a serious hottie."

Xander was observing this whole situation with secret glee. He knew Buffy would never go for him, as long as Angel was in the picture, maybe this new guy was just what he needed to distract her.

"So, Buff, I guess we can say good-bye blood sucking fiend, hello new boy?"

Buffy glanced at Xander a look of obvious shock and guilt flashing across her face. "Don't be silly Xander, Angel's the one for me. Uh, look guys I gotta book, see you at lunch." Buffy practically ran down the hall towards her next class. Xander took the whole scene in with a sense of satisfaction. Yup, there was no doubt about it, this new guy was going to cause some serious rifts between Angel and Buffy.

Buffy sat in her American History class, feeling her heart pound and the blood roaring in her ears. 'What's the matter with me?' Buffy thought. 'You would think I'd never seen a cute guy in my life!' Buffy felt disturbed images of Angel, climbing out her window, whispering,0 "I missed you." flash in her mind. She shook her head to clear her mind, hearing the teacher's voice making an announcement.

"Class this is Jadon Stonewall, he's going to be joining our class for the rest of the year. Where are you originally from Jadon?"

Jadon smiled, a smile that Buffy could only describe as wolfishly. "Oh, I used to live in San Francisco. My parent's transferred here because of their job."

His voice was deep, and sexy, with a faint throatiness to it, as if he needed to clear it. Buffy found it extremely sexy. 'What am I doing?!' Buffy thought in alarm. 'Your with Angel remember? He gave you the ring your wearing now, you said you loved him, and now your mooning over some guy.' Buffy was so angry with herself she didn't notice that someone was saying something. She looked up and felt her cheeks flush as she realized it was Jadon. He was speaking to her.

"Hey, you all right there? I said, do you mind if I share your book with you? I don't' have one yet." His mouth curved into an amused smile, making his eyes twinkle.

Dry mouthed, Buffy shook her head. "Go ahead and sit." Her voice seemed to squeak, much to her embarrassment.

He flashed her a smile again before sitting next to her. "So, you know my name, what's yours?"

Buffy straightened up in her seat. "Buffy Summers. I'm fairly new to the school also, only been here for a little over a year."

When he spoke his voice was warm. " Looks like we have that in common. So, Buffy, what do you do for fun around here?"

She blurted out the answer before she could even stop herself. "The Bronze, my friends and I, are going there tonight, would you like to come with us?" Oh my God, Buffy, what are you doing?! A voice in her mind shrieked.

Jadon was grinning. "I would love too, thanks. I'll see you there." Jadon turned his attention back to the teacher dutifully taking notes.

The class seemed to fly by. Buffy was absorbed in her thought and let out a startled shriek when Jadon touched her arm. Buffy stared up in embarrassment at him.

Jadon grinned, again. "Hey, don't worry Buffy, I don't bite!" Buffy laughed out loud at the irony of his statement, and then took the hand he extended to her, to help her out of her chair.

"What, was it something I said?" Jadon asked innocently.

Buffy just smiled, biting her lip with her teeth, shaking her head. If only he knew...

Angel jerked awake, the sound of laugher seeming to echo through the apartment. "What the....?" Angel squinted in the dim light of his room. There wasn't much there considering the window's were all boarded up, but he still chose to sleep during the time when the sun was at it's brightest. What was it that he had heard a moment ago. Angel stilled himself for a moment, clearing his mind, focusing, on something... He jerked up right. It was Buffy he was sensing, laughing; only laughing. Angel frowned. The ring was only supposed to sense strong emotion's not ever laugh, or sigh that she felt. Why was it sensing her laughter? Angel focused again, there was something else there, beneath the surface of the laughter. Something....Something.. Angel felt his mouth drop open. No.. It couldn't be. He re focused his thoughts. There was no mistaking it this time. Buffy was feeling, attraction. Not just a mild attraction; no the ring wouldn't have picked that up. It was obvious Buffy was very attracted to someone. Angel stood up in a rush. No, it couldn't be, Buffy wouldn't.... 'And why not?' A dark voice seemed to snarl in his mind. 'Your nothing but a vampire, she can't even see you until at night, and even then only every once in a while. You always disappear. He's probably attractive, nice, good sense of humor. Well, Angel it looks like someone is moving in on your territory.' Angel started to head for the door, a growl rising from the back of his throat. He paused.

No.

No, he wouldn't do this. He couldn't go outside in the daylight. Not unless he wanted to get himself killed. He would have to wait until it got dark before confronting her. Angel looked wildly around his apartment, and his eyes fell on something. A glass statue. Angel picked up the statue and with all the strength he could muster hurled it across the room, watching in satisfaction as it exploded against the wall, falling to a million pieces on the floor.

Buffy nervously awaited the arrival of Jadon. Xander, and Willow were out dancing on the floor, while she nervously fiddled with her straw.

  "Hey."

Buffy jerked up and stared in disbelieve at Angel. "Uh... Angel.. What are you doing here?"

Angel eyes glanced over her face. "Well, I could ask you the same thing, but that would be pointless now wouldn't it?" Angel's voice was completely cool, but underneath the coolness was something darker. Something that sent a chill up Buffy's spine.

"Angel..." Buffy started, but was interrupted by Jadon's voice.

"Hey Buffy, is this Xander? I've heard a lot about...." Before he could finish his sentence Angel grabbed him by the his jacket.

"I think you and I need to have a little talk." His voice was cold.

Buffy's eyes widened, and she immediately got up and stood between the two boys. She grabbed on to Angel's arm. "That's enough! Angel, you don't know what your doing, get out of here." Buffy said icily.

Angel didn't need any further encouragement. "Fine, I'm out of here. Have a nice life Buffy." Angel disappeared into the crowd of dancers, disappeared, out of Buffy's life..

Buffy closed her eyes against the feelings churning inside her.

Jadon spoke out in bewilderment. "Buffy, uh, who was that guy? You didn't mention any jealous boyfriends earlier."

Buffy felt herself laugh bitterly. "It was no one, Jadon, forget it." Her voice had a ring of finality as she turned her face towards the happy, excited dancers. Their lives were so normal. They were all so unaware of the danger that always threatened them. Buffy felt something like depression wash through her. She hardly spoke a word the rest of the night, just sipped her soda, watching the lights of the Bronze flash brightly, and feeling the music drown out her pain...

Angel glared angrily at the walls of his apartment. He felt like a caged animal, he wanted to hurt something, no, someone. He couldn't believe Buffy would do this to him. After all they had been through together. Deep down inside he knew he was being selfish, unreasonable, out of control; the beast inside was ready to come out, beginning to rage out of control... He could feel it just below the surface, fighting to take over..

No.

He needed something, something to bring him back under control. His eyes fell on the refrigerator. He walked over, yanked open the door, and grabbed one of the bags hanging inside. He tore it open with his teeth and began to swallow, letting the pleasure of his animal instinct, and need consume him.

March 23

The Bronze

Buffy was out on a date. She didn't really want to be here, but she didn't know what else to do. It had been weeks since she had seen Angel, weeks of fighting off vampires, and trying  to deny her feelings for Jadon. Buffy didn't really know what to do anymore. She loved Angel she knew that, but she couldn't deny what she felt for Jadon either, he was so cute, so nice, and funny. He was different from most high school boys, who really were interested in one thing. He seemed to really care about her, which was more then she could say for Angel. She had tried, really tried, to talk with him. She had found out where he lived, and knocked on his door. She still remembered the desperation of the situation.

She had pounded hard on the door until her hand was bruised. "Angel!! Let me in! Let's talk about this!" She had screamed at the door. But there had been nothing, not a whisper of life coming from beyond that door. For a moment she had felt a deep feeling exhaustion wash through her as she leaned her head against the door; then anger washed over her and she had deliberately screamed at Angel. "Fine Angel, be this way, I tried, really tried to get you to listen, it's your own fault if your going to tune me out. Have a nice life." She had said, mocking him, by spitefully throwing his words back at him....

Now, it didn't feel right. Part of her wanted to be with Angel, to have him hold her in his arms, but another part of her, was glad she was free to be here with Jadon. Jadon whom at that moment was the closest she had ever felt to being happy with another guy. Even Angel and her love was a bitter one. Buffy sighed staring at the cup of coffee on the table.

"Gee, I didn't know my company was this depressing!" Jadon spoke from across the table.

Startled Buffy looked up and immediately blushed. "No Jadon, I'm sorry, I'm lousy company tonight."

Jadon nodded understandingly. "It has something to do with that guy doesn't it?"

   "What guy?"

"Oh come on now Buffy, the guy we saw here a few weeks ago the one who practically tried to beat me up. Your in love with him?"

Buffy sighed again. "Jadon, I don't want to lie to you- I do love him, and I'm sorry I've been such a lousy date tonight."

Jadon shook his head, and unreadable look in his eyes. "It's okay Buffy, and I know how it goes to be in love with someone, and not to have them love you back...."

Buffy glanced at Jadon, startled. Could he mean...? No that couldn't be what he meant. He didn't love her.

Jadon smiled. "Anyways, this just means I'm going to have to try harder to get you to forget about him, and think a little more about me."

Buffy might have been angry at that, but his voice didn't' have a hint of possessiveness to it; it sounded boyish. She smiled at him. "Jadon, I really hope so, I really do."

Jadon took that opportunity to lean in and ever so gently press his lips to hers. A slight tingle ran through her body. Buffy broke away with a gasp.

   "Jadon-" she started.

"No, Buffy, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that, it was to soon, I was being a jerk I'm really sorry, I-" His words were cut off as her mouth descended on to his.

Angel stood in the darkness of the Bronze watching the couple kissing in the dim light of the club. His first instinct was violence. He could feel the animal anger, course through his body taking over like an entity. But then with a sigh it faded leaving a deep emptiness. He couldn't really blame Buffy for liking this other guy, after all this guy was every thing that he himself wasn't. And of course he could see her in the sunlight.... Angel sighed dejectedly and let himself out the back door, into the blackness of the night.

Buffy laid on top of her covers staring up the ceiling in her room. Jadon had dropped her off an hour ago. It had ended up being a nice enough date, but something was still bothering her. Something she just couldn't put her finger on...She sat up suddenly. "Angel?" Her voice echoed across the walls of her room. Buffy, looked around her room her eyes darting to every corner. She licked her lips nervously. "Angel are you in here?" She whispered. Nothing moved. 'You're just being stupid.' she thought to herself. Although she had to admit a part of it was longing. She missed Angel and wanted it to be him in her room. Wanted him to take her in his arms. Suddenly a wave of unexpected anger washed through her. 'You want it to be Angel? Angel, who made a fool out of you at the Bronze; who completely rejected you?' Buffy glared for a moment. She didn't want it to be Angel. He could leave and never come back for all she cared. Jadon was the one she loved, the one she wanted to be with. Her breathing slowed as she leaned back resting her head on her pillow. She began to dream of Jadon, not aware of Jadon standing at the foot of her bed, watching the rise and fall of her chest, watching her sleep, watching her dream...

March 25

SunnyDale High

"So Buffy, how are things between you and vamp boy?" Xander asked.

Buffy let out a loud depressed sigh. "Non existent Xander, I haven't seen him in weeks. I don't think I'm ever going to see him again."

Xander felt a flash of guilt. He didn't know Buffy was going to take it this hard. "Buffy, I'm sorry, I-" He was cut off as Jadon swept his arms around Buffy and gave her a great big hug.

"Hey, sweet, how are you doing this morning."

Buffy's depression vanished instantly much to Xander's surprise.

She smiled at Jadon, and gave him a coy response. "Much better now that your here."

Jadon gave her a sardonic smile. "I tend to have that effect on people." Buffy giggled.

Xander felt an instant flash of distaste. There was something about this guy, something he really didn't like. Xander opened his mouth to say something but before he could Buffy and Jadon were leaving, walking off hand and hand towards their American history class.

Xander and Willow sat with Giles in the library during their lunch hour, talking.

"So what your telling me is that Angel and Buffy are no longer seeing each other?" Asked Giles shock evident in his voice.

"You haven't noticed Buffy and the new kid Jadon have hooked up? Giles don't you ever get out?" Xander asked.

Giles looked ill at ease. "No, not much. I can't believe she would just break up with Angel. They seemed to really love each other."

Willow shook her head sadly. "Buffy, isn't much like Buffy these days. She's really rapped up with Jadon. She doesn't spend much time with us anymore, and just between you and me Giles, I don't think she's been doing her night watch routines if you know what I mean."

"She hasn't been looking for vampires?" Giles asked in disbelieve.

"Nope, she hasn't been fighting vampires, and she's been hanging around Jadon, almost all the time. I don't like him." Xander said the disgust evident in his voice.

"Xander, since when do you like any of Buffy's guys?" Willow asked in exasperation.

"I mean it Will, there's something really not right about this guy, if I could just put my finger on it..."

Willow was nodding. "I don't really like him either. There's something definitely freakish about this guy. The other day I saw him freak out when a girl on yearbook staff, tried to take his picture.

Giles looked troubled. "That is odd."

Xander was nodding too, when suddenly he looked up a knowing expression on his face. "Don't vampires freak out over photographs, because they can't be seen in them?"

Willow was nodding excitedly, but Giles shook his head. "That can't be, Jadon is walking around in the daytime like any human. Vampires also can't go out in the light." Xander and Willow's shoulder's slumped.

Xander spoke with determination in his voice. "Well vampire or not, this guy is trouble. I'm not going to let him out of my site."

Giles nodded. "I'm going to do some research see if there is anything I can find out, Willow, you can help me out here." The three got to work, researching, the mysterious stranger.

Jadon and Buffy sat in some remote corner of the high school building. Jadon was stroking her hair and talking about the weekend he had spent at the lake. He talked about how much he missed her.

"I had a nice time with my family, don't get me wrong. But there was something incomplete, something like you." He whispered tracing the outline of her lips. Buffy signed contentedly leaning into Jadon's supportive arms.

"Buffy there's something I've been meaning to talk to you about.."

   "Um hmm." Buffy murmured.

" Well, it's about that ring. The ring that he gave you; the one you still wear."

Buffy looked down in surprise at her hand. It had been part of her for awhile now, she never took it off, and hardly even noticed it anymore. She noticed it now, how the ruby's seemed to shimmer in the sunlight, the color like an expensive wine. The gold also gleamed, like a night star. She spoke.

"I don't even notice I still had it on."

"Well not to sound rude or anything, but it makes me sort of uncomfortable. I mean here your supposed to be going with me, and your wearing some other guys ring. Do you understand what I'm saying?"

Buffy nodded once. It did make sense, she would probably feel the same way if Jadon was wearing the ring of some past girlfriend. Still she hesitated.

"I don't know Jadon, it's kind of special to me.."

Jadon cut her off. "I understand Buffy, and I wouldn't ask if it wasn't important to me."

At that moment Buffy felt a flash of anger through her. 'What about what's important to me.' She thought. Then Jadon leaned in and kissed her, sending tingles through her body like silver lightening.

"Please, for me." Jadon continued whispering in between kisses.

"Well..." Buffy managed to get out.

"I love you." Jadon whispered. Buffy didn't hesitate an instant, she took the ring off her finger and continued to kiss Jadon. The ring fell onto the grass glinting only once in the fading sun of the afternoon.

At the exact moment the ring hit the ground Angel felt a sharpness in his soul. Almost like a ripping motion. He sat up grimacing slightly. It was Buffy; he wasn't feeling her anymore. He always had a sense of her around him when she wore the ring. It often gave him comfort when he was feeling particularly lonely. Now it felt as if his a piece of his soul had been ripped out. "Buffy no.." he groaned softly. Then he felt himself begin to build up walls around him. What did he care if Buffy took off his ring? There relationship was hopeless. Completely hopeless. Anything could happen at that moment, and he wouldn't care. The sun could come out killing him, the stars could fade into oblivion. Nothing mattered anymore. Buffy was lost to him forever. Lost...Lost...At that moment Angel did something he hadn't done in a long time. He wept.

Buffy and Jadon were curled in each other's arms, ignoring all around them. Buffy rested her head against Jadon's shoulders feeling herself absorb his warmth.

"Buffy I want you to come with me tonight. I have something I want to show you. Something that will make you be mine forever."

Buffy couldn't think anymore. Her mind felt foggy, the only thing she was aware of was Jadon's warmth, his comfort. It made her feel protected, loved.. He was speaking again.

"Buffy, will you come with me? Will you follow me to the ends of the earth?"

Buffy sighed. "I'll follow you Jadon, where ever you go, I want to be." Jadon's arms enveloped her. Wrapping around her solid, comforting. She didn't see the smile turn to a smirk. She wasn't even aware of the laughter surrounding her.

"I know you will Buffy, I know..." Buffy slumped in his arms unconscious.

Xander and Willow were walking home when something glinted on the ground catching Willow's eye.

"Hang on a second Xander." She bent over and picked up the object. It was the ring Buffy always wore. "Xander, take a look at this."

Xander's eye's widened as he stared at the ring. "Buffy would never take that off."

Willow frowned. "This doesn't feel right Xander, I think we should get Giles." Willow slipped the ring in her pocket, and then the two headed off towards the library.

Giles looked up from a book he was reading to see Xander and Willow race through the door breathless.

"Giles, look what we found, it's Buffy's ring." Willow announced breathlessly. Giles took the ring from Willow holding the ring up to the light. "Giles, Buffy would never take that ring off her finger for anything! I know for a fact she even slept with it on." Willow said the worry evident in her voice.

Giles nodded. "I have some bad news you two. Apparently some vampires can come out in the day light."

Xander looked horrified. "What!? Giles, what's going on?"

Giles looked a little ashamed. "It's extremely rare, I didn't even know about it until I read some of my books. It's like a disease almost. There are only a handful of vampires who get this 'illness.' Apparently what ever causes a vampire's skin to have such a severe reaction to the sun, sometimes doesn't pass on through a new vampire. I can't really explain the science of it. I have a feeling Jadon is a vampire. Which isn't good because some how Buffy is under Jadon's power."

Xander looked very angry. "I can't believe it! I'll kill Jadon when I get my hands on him!"

Giles shook his head. "Xander, he's going to be strong, only the slayer or another vampire could have a good chance at beating Jadon."

     Willow's eyes widened. "Angel."

Giles nodded. "I think that's our best bet right now. "

"I'll go." Xander spoke. "I've been there before, I think I could convince him."

Giles looked at Xander briefly. "Okay Xander, you go, and hurry. I have a feeling Buffy's in deep trouble." Xander nodded once, and hurried out the door to go talk to Angel.

That night at Angel's apartment.

Angel was staring at his hands, numbly, when he became aware of a pounding at the door. At first he ignored it, but then realized it was Xander shouting frantically on the other side. Angel stood moving towards the door, opening it.

Xander rushed inside. "Angel! You've got to help me, Buffy. She's in big trouble!"

Angel shook his head. "What are you talking about Xander?" His voice came out harsher then he intended it to.

Xander grabbed onto Angel's arm, all but hysterically. "Listen to be man, I'm telling you Jadon is a vampire and he's got plans, bad plans for Buffy. He's taking over her mind! Why else would she be ignoring you?"

Angel shook his head. "Look Xander, I appreciate you coming down here, trying to make me feel better. I know the truth though. Buffy loves Jadon, not me. That's fine, I hope there very happy together.

Xander, furious, shook Angel. Normally he might not have the courage to do something like that but Buffy's life was at stake. "Don't be so self centered! Buffy loves you Angel! And if you could get over yourself for one minute you would see how much danger she's in! Jadon is a vampire. An unusual vampire who can go out in the sunlight. He's taking over her mind!"

Angel glared down at Xander's hand, and jerked his arm away. "I know about those vampires Xander. Trust me, I would have known if Jadon had been a vampire. He's not. Buffy has just moved on."

"Angel, you're so wrapped up in your own jealousy that you can't see left from right! I've been there before, but listen to me, unless you want something really bad to happen to Buffy, you better clear your head and realize that this is not the real Buffy."

Angel stared for a beat down at Xander. "How do you know for sure?"

Xander glared angrily at Angel. "How could you not know? This isn't Buffy! Buffy loved you more then anything! She wouldn't just dump you for the first good looking guy that came along! Do you have such a low self concept about yourself?"

Angel closed his eyes briefly, before looking at Xander again. The deep pain in his eyes was very evident. "I don't know." he whispered.

"Please Angel, you've got to believe me, this isn't Buffy. Jadon's done something to her!"

For a moment Xander thought it was hopeless. Angel sat there staring at him an unreadable expression in his eyes. Then he spoke.

    "I believe you."

Xander nodded. "Good, now are you going to just sit there or are you going to help?"

Something twisted in Angel's eyes. "I'll help."

The two left, walking into the bone chilling night. The moon shining down on them casting there flickering shadows upon the ground.

Buffy awoke once more to find herself being carried across the moon lite ground.

     "Where-where am I?" She murmured.

Jadon hushed her. "Shhh, Buffy, don't worry I'm taking you to my favorite place."

Buffy was to out of it to respond. They finally arrived on a grassy field. She could vaguely make out what looked to be a cave. Suddenly, Buffy realized something was wrong, before she could gather her bearings Jadon's lips moved swiftly to hers. All rational thoughts flew out of Buffy's mind. She felt so strange. Some part of her knew that his kiss was nothing ordinary. That something was happening to her, but she didn't really care. She moaned softly tilting her head back feeling his kisses, like rain on her neck. She wasn't even aware of the danger until it was to late. Suddenly it felt like a knife was slicing through the side of her neck. She cried out, but nothing happened. She felt like she was in a vacuum. The world tilted and twisted. Her eyes swam in and out of focus. The earth dropped out from beneath her feet. She wasn't even aware at what point she faded into darkness. All she remembered were the stars; the red stars that grew by the minute consuming her vision, consuming her whole world...

Xander and Angel arrived just in time to see Buffy fall to the ground. It had taken them a while to find the place and arrive, but now that they did it was a crucial moment.

"Buffy!" Shouted Xander, instantly running to Buffy's side. He dropped to the ground picking up Buffy, cradling her in his arms.

Angel, a predator snarl on his face, rushed at Jadon. He leaped on his back, fangs bared, pounding his back. "I'll kill you!" Angel screamed, continuing to mercilessly slam his fists into Jadon. Jadon looking momentarily stunned fell to the ground. Angel took that opportunity to fall on top of Jadon going straight for the throat. Angel was hardly even aware of it when Xander began tugging at his arms.

"Angel, forget about him! Buffy needs your help right now!"

Angel shook Xander off angrily. "Get outta her Xander! This is between me and Jadon!" Angel leaned in for the kill again.

"Angel, I know your angry! But listen to me! This isn't helping Buffy, she's dying Angel, dying!"

Those words seemed to help a little, as Angel straightened up, some of the violence leaving his body. "Where is she?" Angel said hoarsely. Xander pointed at the fallen figure laying across the wet grass. Angel stumbled to his feet blindly running across the grass, falling beside Buffy. She lay as still as death. Her face so pale, it looked waxen. She was dying. Angel leaned in and felt Buffy's pulse. It fluttered very weakly. Blood ran down her neck like candle wax. Angel and Xander watched as Buffy took one last breath, as if to fight her death, before she was still.

"Buffy, no! Please God no!" Angel's voice sobbed desperately breaking the quiet stillness of the unforgiving night....
