When Worlds Collide

An Unlikely Match

The night air was cool, an unnatural breeze came from the north.

"Just another ordinary night of slayage, huh, Buff." Xander said to his friend as they walked to the school from the cemetary. The sky was filled with stars and the moon was full in the sky. The night had so far been a bust when it came to slayage but these things could change at any moment. Giles, Buffy's watcher had told Xander to bring Buffy back early from her watch.

"So why'd Giles want me to come back to the school Xander?" Buffy asked.

"He didn't really say. He just said that it was dangerous to be out tonight. But hey what night isn't on the Hell-mouth.

Buffy rolled her eyes "Don't I know it."

"I hear the wind Spike, it's changing." Drusilla said holding her dog Sunshine.

"Really? And what does it say luv?" Asked Spike sitting in his wheel chair. They were in an old house, there was very little light that came from the lights on the high celling, but that was just the way the occupants liked it, dark. They were vampires and didn't have much love for light, especially sunlight. The harmful rays of the sun would easily kill a vampire. The house did have one disadvantage and that was the fact that it had many windows. These had been borded up but it was still dangerous.

"It says that change is coming. It brings danger, to all that is." Drusilla squeezed Sunshine and it gave a yelp of pain. "There, there." Drusilla calmed the dog, patting it.

"So danger's comming, huh?" The two vampires turned to look at where the voice was comming from, although they both new who had made the statement. Standing at the top of the stairs was a pale skinned man with dark hair, he was garbed in all black. And was leaning against the stair rail. He had a cocky expression on his face, it was the kind of look that made Spike want to rip him apart. "Sounds like fun." The man said as he jumped over the railing to the ground below. He walked over to Drusilla and put his arm around her.

"So nice of you to join the party Angelus." Spike said sarcastically.

"Wouldn't miss it." Angelus smiled wryly at Spike "So how will we benifit from this change Dru?" Spike watched Angelus clinging to his Dru and grated his teeth.

"I don't know..." Dru said distantly. "Sunshine wants something to eat." She started to walk away from Angelus but he held her tight.

"You tell us change is coming and then you don't say how!" Angelus hissed his voice contracting in anger. He put his game face on and looked to Sunshine. The dog looked at Angelus and started whimpering and shakeing. "I think Sunshine might be distracting you." Dru clutched the shaking animal to her chest.

"That's enough Angelus!" Spike growled. "There is no need for that." Angelus was too busy being mad, and Drusilla frightened that they didn't see Spike grasping the arms of the wheel chair so hard that his knuckles turned white. Spike was between uter fury and complete fear. No one can speak to my Dru that way no one!

"Oh yes, of course, your right." Angelus' face reverted back to its human form. "What was I thinking. Sorry Dru." Drusilla smiled as if it had all been a game. Angelus looked at the still shaking Sunshine, "Sorry Sunshine, did the mean vampire scare you?" A mocking smile crossed over Angelus' face.

"It's okay Angelus. I like it when you get angry. Now I must feed Sunshine, want to come?"

"Of course. After I was so mean to her, I just have to make it up to her."

Drusilla turned to Spike "Spike?" she questioned.

"Sorry pet I have other things to do."

"Like what?" Inquired Angelus turning to Spike. "Sit? Oops that's all you can do!" He chuckled.

Drusilla looked back to Angelus and tugged at his arm gently "Sunshine." she said. Then they both turned to leave and walked into the other room.

"Okay Giles we're here. What's up? Buffy asked as she walked into the school library. The librarian clad in a grey tweed suit looked up from the book he was reading at one of the tables in the room. The table was filled with ancient texts on various subjects related to the occult.

"Buffy, um well it uh s-seems that for-for a the next week or so that um there will be some odd and, very likely, dangerous o-occurrences."

"Like what?" Asked Xander, he had walked in about mid sentence of what Giles was saying, but after being around the slayer he pretty much new the drill. He and Buffy both walked up to the table that Giles was sitting at. Buffy pulled up a chair and Xander sat on the corner of the table, his feet resting on a chair.

"Yes, well, you see that is, um what I'm having trouble finding out. I'm having Willow look it up uh on the um internet."

"So you've no idea why it's dangerous?" Inquired Buffy, sounding slightly amused that for once Giles didn't exactly know what was going on.

"No Buffy I don't"

"Well," said Buffy slapping her hands against her legs and rising "Sunnydale's always dangerous and the vampires never seem to rest. So for the good of Sunnydale I've got to go back out there."

"I-I don't think that uh is wise Buffy." Said Giles rising from his books.

"Yeah, Buff. You should listen to Giles." Xander said in agreement.

"I'll be careful, more careful then usual. But I'm the Slayer, I can handle it. You guys be careful too." Buffy walked to the door and turned to her friends and said as brightly as she could, "See you tomorrow morning!" and she walked out of the library.

"How can she do this to me." Spike muttered under his breath. He looked at the wheel chair he was sitting in and cursed silently. "Everything was perfectly fine before I got stuck in this bloody chair. And then HE came and made everything worse." He wrapped his hands tightly around the arms of the wheel chair. "Well if Angelus makes her happy..." Spike let out a sigh, shaking his head. "Then-then, she can have him." With that he used all of the strength he could muster and lifted himself out of the chair, and stood up. "I will miss you pet." Spike said sadly, and slowly walked up the steps and out of the house.

Buffy was in the cemetery, she was sitting on a tombstone and humming a jaunty tune. "No vamps tonight, this is so odd." A dark, shadow crept up behind her. Buffy felt its presence and turned to see a tall, muscular vampire behind her. He had his game face on and was wearing blue jeans, a sweatshirt that said University of Notre Dame and a Raiders baseball hat on. "So you're just awakened, huh?" Buffy asked curiously as she jumped down from the tombstone. "Well then it'll be quick. Good I have to get home and get some studying done." The vampire lunged for her, but she easily dodged him. "Come on you must be able to do better than that!" She exclaimed. The vampire turned around again and made a mad dash to knock Buffy down, but being angry the vampire was careless and ran right into the stake Buffy had just drawn. "Well that's that." Buffy said as the vampire turned to dust. "My shift's over. I should even be home before curfew today if I hurry." Buffy walked out of the grave yard and started jogging home.

Spike was trudging down the street. He was not in the mood for feeding, he was thoroughly depressed. What am I supposed to do without Dru? This was a mistake...but I could still go back to her...no not after the way she was all over Angelus. Besides he makes her happy... lost in his thoughts he wasn't looking where he was going and walked right into someone. When they collided the person fell down.

"Oh! I'm sorry." A feminine voice said. The voice was very familiar to Spike but he was to busy moping that he didn't recognise it.

"No, I wasn't watching where I was going. Here let me help you up luv." That voice, could it be, luv? The girl looked up and saw Spike.

"I don't think so!" She exclaimed, knocking him down.

"What?!?" Spike took a closer look at the girl. "Slayer!"

"I thought I was done for the night, but it'll be a pleasure finishing you off Spike." Buffy said jumping up and into a fighting stans.

"Oh goody you know each other already!" Said a disembodied voice of an old man.

"What?" Spike and Buffy said in unison, looking about to see who said that.

"Who's there?" Spike called out.

"Oh this is just the lamest trick you've ever tried Spike, but it's not going to work. You're going down tonight!"

"Hey, this isn't my plan!" Spike said raising his hands, it's not my style."

"Well at least you're not fighting now." The same voice said. From the shadows an old man with a long white beard wearing mouse colored robes walked out. Upon his head perched a pointy hat that looked like it had seen better days.

"Who are you?" Buffy asked.

"Huh? Me?" The old man asked confused. "Didn't I already tell you?"

"No." Spike said simply.

"Oh, deary me, well then I'll introduce myself. The names Bond, James Bond!"

Both Spike and Buffy looked at each other.

"Okay this guy isn't playing with a full deck." Buffy muttered. "Spike you talk to him you've delt with Drusilla and she's nuts." Spike seemed to looked away from Buffy when she mentioned Drusilla What's up with him? Buffy thought.

"Drusilla...oh yes, she's that rather odd child isn't she." The old man said starting to pace. Spike quickly turned to the old man.

"How do you know Dru?" He demanded.

"Lost-totally...poor child..." Spike put his game face on and started for the old man.

"How Do You Know Dru?" Spike asked furiously. "If you don't tell me right now I will rip your lungs out-"

"I don't think so." Said another voice. This voice was young and strong. Spike stopped in his tracks.

"Another one?" Buffy asked looking around. Out of the same dark corner where the old man came from stepped out a beautiful young woman. She had silver hair and was dressed all in black. Her face was worn and it looked as if he had spent many years with this crazy and was very tired already.

"I must apologise for his manner." The woman said. "Now why don't you tell these nice people your name sir."

"I did!" The old man said offended. "It's Bond, J-" The woman shook her head. "I'm not Bond today?" She shook his head again. "But I want to be Bond today."

"Sorry sir, but we do have urgent business."

"Oh yes that's right, fine I'm Dorothy!" The old man looked at Buffy and said. "You must be Lion." Then he turned to Spike

"And your the Tin Man" Finally he turned to his companion "And you must be Toto. We seem to be missing Scarecrow..."

"Sir, you're Fizban."

"Why of course I am. I am the all mighty Fizban, wizard extraordinaire!"

"That's it, I'm through with this wacko!" Spike said turning to leave. "As much as I hate being in agreement with you I'm too." They both turned to leave.

"Stop! Your world is in danger." The woman said.

"So, who cares?" Spike asked, stopping. Buffy too stopped.

"Apparently both of you." Said the old man. "The forces of Chaos have broken free of the Grey Gem. The all father is loose and will soon have the power to destroy the world."

"Lot's of demons have tried to destroy the world," Buffy said glancing at Spike who looked a little sheepish. "but I have always stopped them."

"This is no demon." Hissed the woman, her eyes glinted in the moonlight.

"Who are you?" Buffy asked the woman.

Looking shocked, the woman looked at Buffy and then Spike. "Where are my manners." She said shocked. "I come down of Fizban and have no more mind than he. I am Cayla, head of the silver dragons."

Buffy stared at Cayla. "Silver dragons? Is that some kind of cult?"

"No, child she is a dragon." Fizban said wisely, then all of a sudden he looked very worried and started looking around. Buffy and Spiked looked quizzically at him. Cayla frowned. "My hat!" He exclaimed. "My hat! Where is it? Have you seen my hat?"

"It's on your head mate." Spike answered.

"Why so it is!" Fizban took his hat off and looked at it angrily, and then absently started twisting it. "Well then let's go!"

"Where?" Buffy asked.

"To Krynn of course, to fight the father of all and nothing."

"There he goes again with this father bloke, who is he?" I need something to do. Spike thought to himself. And this guy might actually have something to say, that will get Dru off my mind.

"He is the God of Chaos, he wishes everything that his children made destroyed. Be it good, evil or neutral. That mean Krynn, your world and many others."

Buffy shifted her feet, "A God?"

"Well isn't that different pet?" Buffy glared at Spike. "Anyway how are we supposed to save the world?" Spike mocked.

"You will not be alone." Said Cayla looking up to the sky. "There are others chosen to fight with you. As well as the Gods of Krynn, which look down upon there children every moment of every day." The moonlight cascaded around Cayla surrounding her in an angelic halo.

"Now we must go, the others should be gathered by now." Fizban said laying a hand on Cayla's shoulder. When he did this he no longer looked like the same egocentric old fool he had been, but rather like a wise old wizard.

"Of course." Cayla sighed.

"Hey! Wait a bloody minute!" Spike said nervously.

"We never said that we'd-" Buffy started, but she never finished because the four people were swallowed by a bright white light.

***

When the light subsided Buffy and Spike were in a clearing in a densely covered forest. In the sky shone two moons one white the other red.

"Where are we?" Buffy asked, turning to round on Spike.

"Hey, you got me, and can we call a time out! I'm not going to fight you pet until I know where we are." Spike looked a bit defensive.

"Yeah right!" Buffy answered sarcastically.

"I mean it Sla-" Spike was cut off by a voice in from inside the forest.

"You will be MINE!!" They heard a voice yell. They looked around for Fizban and Cayla but they were both gone. They both looked rather confused, after all the evening had been nothing but.

"Lady's first." Spike said to Buffy gesturing that she should go first.

"Ohh thank you. You're such a gentleman." Buffy said rolling her eyes and hurrying towards the voice. Spike was close behind her.

This is different, isn't it? Here I am following the Slayer of all people into the unknown. It's amazing that she actually accepted the time out. Then again she's as lost as I am at the moment. Spike thought to himself. Well something tells me I won't have time to think about Dru. The name hurt him deeply. I wonder if that is how Buffy feels when she thinks about Angel? Ahead of them there was an explosion that could have totaled a city. "What the bloody hell was that?!?" Spike exclaimed. All thoughts of Drusilla rushed from his head. He and Buffy hurried over to where the explosion came from. The earth was covered in a layer of blood and ashes, there was also the occasional shard of bone to be found scattered on the ground. All that was left of the trees that would have been there were stumps the rest had either been burned to a crisp, or shattered. A lone figure slumped to the ground huddled in a red cloak. The person was surronded by gore and was shaking slightly. Buffy hurried over to the person. Spike sauntered along looking as nonchalant as one could being blasted into another world with no clue as to when sunrise was and just seeing a completely destroyed part of forest.

"Are you okay?" Buffy asked when she neared the individual. The person stood up and whirled around. The cowl of her cloak fell back revealing a beautiful young woman. Her hair shone white like moonlight, her skin was tinted a golden color, and her golden eyes shone with an inner fire.

"Who are you." The woman demanded.

"I'm Buffy." The woman nodded and looked to Spike expecting a name.

"I-I'm Spike." He stuttered. She's beautiful. He thought awstruck. The girl arched and eyebrow, and then smiled. Spike smiled back. "And may I have the pleasure of asking you your name m'lady?"

"My name is Lexia, kind sir." She said.

"Okay that's enough," Buffy said looking between the two, they were looking like two love sick puppies. "What just happened here, and where are we?"

Much to Spike's dismay Lexia turned her attention over to Buffy. Her features darkened and a look of sorrow crossed her face. "It is best that you not know what happened here. It is not for those who are not worthy of the knowledge. As to where you are, you are on Krynn."

"Huh?" Buffy looked angrily at Lexia. Who does she think she is? I've had an awful day. I'm stuck on this "Krynn" and she thinks that I'm not worthy to know what just happened. I don't think so! Buffy got into a fighting stance and looked at Lexia. "I have every right to know what's going on here!" Spike stepped between Buffy and Lexia.

"Buffy, don't push your luck." He growled.

"Look who's talking! I have a stake in my pocket that has your name on it buster!" Buffy grabbed a stake from her pocket and started for Spike.

Well I knew that the Slayer would attack soon enough. Spike grinned at Buffy and waved a finger in her face. "Uh, uh, uh Slayer we have a truce remember." Buffy looked at him her brow furrowed. She stoped and looked at him.

"You called the truce I never even agreed to it." She said.

"Okay look, I seem to be missing something here." Lexia said confused. "You are going to attack him with a pointy stick? Ohhh yeah, that's goin' ta do a lot! NOT!" Both Buffy and Spike looked at her. Even if Spike weren't a vampire a stake could still hurt him. The girl raised her arm and pointed a finger at the stake. "Charkarma Sator Nagla Chakalla." The stake shimmered and Buffy dropped it in shock. It then disappeared. "Now then, no more fighting `kay." Lexia turned her back on the startled pair and started walking away from them.

"Wait!" Buffy called. "How'd you do that."

"Why magic of coarse." The girl appeared stunned. "Geeze, you people aren't from around here are you?"

"No were not, luv." Spike said.

"Well then, the 'stake'?" She questioned looking at Buffy, who nodded. "makes sense. In some warped and twisted manner." She turned her head to the sky and called out "Is this some kind of sick cosmic joke? `Cause if it is I'm NOT laughing. He's a vampire." Lexia said nodding her head in Spike's direction. Buffy nodded an affirmative. "Great, just great." Lexia muttered. "And what are we supposed to do about sunrise." She then turned to Spike. "Which is in about three hours, you know." Buffy looked at Spike. Spike looked at Buffy. (*authors note. I LOVE writing that bit*) Shaking her head Lexia grabbed Spike and Buffy's arm. "C'mon."

"What? Where are you taking us." Buffy asked. I hate not being in control. One moment we're not worthy the next we're being dragged around as if we are.

"I have to assume Fizban sent you."

"The old bloke with the hat? Yeah he sent us alright." Spike muttered. Which got a smile from Lexia, and a glare from Buffy.

"Yes his methods are...odd, but effective." The three walked into a near-by cave that at one point would have been covered by trees but was no longer covered. The three walked in and Lexia let go of Buffy and sat Spike down on a large bolder that was against the wall of the cave.

"Hey!" He said getting up. "I hate to say this luv but you're being a bit pushy!"

"Am I?" Lexia questioned and pushed him back down on the bolder with a giggle.

"What do you think you're doing?" Asked her quietly.

Lexia sighed. "Hopefully saving your butts." She turned to Spike who had stayed sitting. "Okay, the dawn thing wouldn't be very good for you right." He nodded. "And let's just say that the whole blood sucking thing would definitely be inconvenient, sooo I'm going to fix that." The smile that had been on Lexia's face widened at the look of shock on Spike's face. "So then let's begin."

"Wait a bloody minute-" Spike began.

"Hey, by now you almost have gotta have figured it out. Mages don't take no for an answer." She winked at Spike conspiritively.

What? Geeze what is with this world. For one thing there's no way she can unvamp me. Then again things seem to work a bit differently around here...that stake thing and all. I really wouldn't doubt it if she caused the explosion. Hell what've I got to loose? I've already lost Dru. Spike sighed. "Okay then, let's see you do it."

If she really can cure Spike, then she can cure Angel! Buffy thought excitedly. I really don't like her but I have no problem with her experimenting with Spike, and if it works, and I can take her to Sunnydale with me... Buffy's thoughts trailed as Lexia took out a vile of water from her robes. She uncorked the vile and poured it over her hands. She then raised her hands in the air.

"Spike? Spike!" Drusilla called out, running into the room where her and Angelus had left him. She looked about and saw his empty wheel chair.

"Drusilla, honey." Angelus said in a mock sweetness. "Why'd you just run away like that." He looked at her and saw a look of complete horror on her face. He then turned to where she was looking and saw the empty wheel chair. "The bastard." He whispered. "So sit-and-spin can walk, huh? Not for long!"

"Angelus." Drusilla whispered.

"What?" He asked looking down at her.

"My Spike is leaving me."

"Is that all?" He asked, stroking the hair away from her cheek to comfort her. Much like she did to comfort Sunshine. "It's okay, you still have me." He bent down to give her a kiss.

She shoved him away and screamed. "You don't understand! He's leaving me forever!!"

"It's okay we'll find him and kill him." Drusilla whimpered and looked down at the dog that had followed them into the room. She picked it up and started patting it. Her eyes were almost glazed over and it looked like she was in one of her trances. "Great, just great. He always ruins my rewards for staying around here."

"Spike, Spike..." She trailed off.

***

"Krynn. O Krynn." She began. "I am Palidine. Father of life." Lexia became shrouded in an aura of white light. "Krynn. O Krynn. I am Takhisis. Mother of strife." The white aura disappeared and she was covered in darkness. "Krynn. O Krynn." Her voice raised and a wind began to gust throughout the cave. "I am Gilean. Brother to both. So freedom is rife." (*authors note. This is not my own spell it was taken from page 108 in the book The History of DragonLance *) The darkness was lifted and her aura was now a mixture of red, white and black. Lexia's hair whipped around her face. She lowered her arms and then took out a piece of amber from a pouch that hung from her robe and held it out towards Spike. "Spirit of fire. Spark of life." The amber burst into flames. "Be with me now, As I light the skies," The fire that had been in her hand flew from the amber and lit up the cave with it's flickering light. "As I illumine my eyes. As I set my soul afire." The light became so intense that both Buffy and Spike had to cover there eyes. "With the inner vision That guides my way!" (*authors note. This is not my own spell it was taken from page 122 in the book The History of DragonLance *) The light then went into Lexia. The wind in the cave howled as if in anger and pain. Lexia dropped the amber that had been in her hand and pointed to Spike. The light shot through her hand and into Spike, who then gasped in pain. Lexia pulled out a moonstone from her pouch. Her hands then began to shake and she almost dropped it. She took a deep breath closing her eyes and began the final incantation of the spell. "Gentle as snowflakes. Harsh as hailstorms." The moonstone began humming and shimmering in Lexia's hand. "The warrior is." The moonstone then began glowing an eiry white. "Gentle as snowflakes. Harsh as hailstorms." The moonstone was sucked into Lexia and then shot into Spike who this time cried out and was surrounded by a white light. Lexia's eyes flared open. "My warrior is!" (*authors note. This is not my own spell it was taken from page 129 in the book The History of DragonLance *) Lexia hissed these last words out in pain and commandment. The winds died down and Lexia fell to her knees. The light around Spike disappeared and he leaned against the wall of the cave.

***

"NO!" Drusilla cried falling to the floor. "My Spike is no more!" Angelus bent down and cradled the crying woman, and he knew that Spike must be dead. Good. He thought. Now Dru is all mine. Just like the old days, before he came around.

Stay tuned for Part 4 coming soon to a theater near you :) You know the drill, it'll be here in a week or two.
