The following is an interview with Corey Klemow done by Mathew Ignash in December 2000. Corey played the part of the young man in Rm w/a Vu. 1. I've discovered many actors on Buffy or Angel have read for other parts on the show before landing the roles they received (Charisma Carpenter read for the part of Buffy, for instance). Have you ever read for a part on Buffy or Angel before, and if so which part? Nope, 'twas my first (and so far only) audition for either show. 2. Have you ever appeared in a television commercials we might recognize you from? I'm in the Levis "Make Them Your Own" commercial (the ones set in a dressing room, with the Marvin Gaye song in the background) which was playing a lot in August and September (but not so much now that the Karaoke ads have started up). I'm the guy who plucks his waistband while staring at the mirror, looking a bit sullen. 3. When did you shoot this episode? Monday, September 13, 1999. Last scene before lunch. :) 4. What other people did you meet (actors and crew) and what impressions did they make on you? Actors: Glenn Quinn ("Doyle") and Charisma Carpenter ("Cordelia"). Both were very polite and gracious to the new guy on the set. Charisma said hello while I was in makeup and then, impromptu, launched into a rehearsal of the scene. Later, she warned me about stepping too close to the shower curtain, lest the curtain rod cast a shadow across my face. She also said that my shirt was "happy". Director: Scott McGinnis. Talked to me a bit about his career. He used to be an actor, then started directing. Eventually, he gave up acting entirely, because as a director, you have to see the big picture of the entire story, and he found that more compelling than the narrow focus you have as an actor, just concentrating on one character. Producer: David Greenwalt. Wasn't on set the day of my shoot, but was at my audition. Had me read my lines a second time "just because I'm having so much fun". That made me feel pretty darned good! :) (Not as good as when my agent called the next day to tell me I actually booked, but pretty darned good nonetheless!) 5. I see you are a sci-fi fan. If you could appear as a guest star on a current sci-fi show what show would it be? Thinking about it, most good sci-fi shows are off the air. How about if you could go back in time and be on a show from the past? Who would you want to play? I'm not much of a TV sci-fi fan these days, to be honest. I'd choose "The X-Files", not because I'm a particularly big fan, but because of the exposure. (I'd love to be in "Doctor Who", though, if it ever came back!) 6. Do you personally know any of the other actors or actresses who have been on Angel or Buffy? Adam Bitterman, who played the fear demon in last year's Halloween episode ("Fear, Itself"), is a friend, and a fellow member of my theatre company, Sacred Fools (www.sacredfools.org) I am acquainted with Lyle Kanouse, who played the sleazy landlord in the scene just following mine, and with Andy Umberger, who played the creepy body-part-projecting doctor in the episode just before mine ("I Fall To Pieces"), but I don't know either of them particularly well. I also recently found out that Christophe Beck, who composes the music for both shows, is the same guy as the Chris Beck who used to play improv piano for several comedy troupes at the late, lamented Upfront Comedy comedy club in Santa Monica. Didn't know him well, but he was a nice guy. Chris was friends with a friend of mine that I started a sketch troupe with, and recorded a little bit of music for the troupe as a favor to him. I doubt he'd remember me, though. 7. Would you want to appear on Angel or Buffy again playing the same character? Playing a different character? Either or both! 8. Did you watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer or Angel regularly? Will you in the future? No. I'm afraid I'm not much of a regular TV viewer these days, though I try to catch at least one episode of new shows just to get the gist of 'em, in case I end up auditioning for 'em. (I've been really lazy about that this year, though.) The only show in the last few years that inspired 100% viewer loyalty from me was "Freaks & Geeks". Damn, I miss that show. 9. Have you seen your episode? What did you think of it? (Feel free to write a long answer, I'd like to place it in the "Points Of View" section of the review.) Yes. I enjoyed it, mostly for the great funny dialogue scattered throughout. (Sorry, I haven't sat down and watched it since last year, so I don't have a long review for you.) 10. Have you read through our site? What do you think of it? I've given it a bit of a browse. Very thorough! Nice job. Itty bitty nitpick - in "Rm w/a Vu", Cordelia refers to her apartment as "poltergeistalicious", not "poltergeist-delicious"... that one I remember... :) coreY
