The following is an interview with Tom Kiesche done by Mathew Ignash the week after the Angel episode The Shroud Of Rahmon first aired. Tom played the part of one of the detectives on the show. In a message dated 11/28/00 4:18:21 AM Pacific Standard Time, mignash@rust.net writes: > 1. I've discovered many actors on Buffy or Angel have read for other parts > on the show before landing the roles they got (Charisma Carpenter read for > the part of Buffy, for instance). Have you ever read for a part on Buffy or > Angel before, and if so which part? I read for a part on Buffy before booking the role on ANGEL. I don't remember the character's name or what the episode was. It was for a detective in charge of a crime scene. I think I was too young. > 2. Have you ever appeared in a television commercial we might recognize you > from? I haven't done a ton of commercials or any one of them that really stands out. Some people in the West might recognize me from a regional US WEST spot I did, playing a construction foreman about to blow up the wrong building. My favorite commercial I ever did, I was in a wig and bad 80's clothes for a TOY-R-US commercial. It was shot like a 80's game show. As far as being recognized, some people have recognized me from other Guest Star roles I've done, but the thing that most people recognized me from was a show called THE DATING STORY on The Learning Channel, where I went on a blind date to a ZOO with a girl named Christine. > 3. When did you shoot this episode? I worked October 10th in the AM. > 4. What other people did you meet (actors and crew) and what impressions did > they make on you? Everyone was very nice. The morning I worked went smoothly and I've no complaints about anything or anyone. W. Earl Brown (Menlo) is a friend of mine and I'm sure you looked him up already, but if you didn't, he was the brother in "Something about Mary." > 5. In the episode you were in they never seem to mention your character's > name, I've been calling him "Detective #1". Do you recall the script giving > the character a name or title? In the script the Detective's name is Detective Broomfield, but he's never given a name in the show, so the show could bring me back at any time and give me any name they wanted. Or both of us for that matter. > 6. The credits for this episode were a bit unclear. I only figured out who > you played when I saw your picture on your web page. I still don't know of > who played the other detective in your scenes. Do you know if he was Dwayne > L. Barnes or R. Emery Bright? The other Detective was Detective Turlock and played by R. Emery Bright. > 7. Would you want to appear on Angel or Buffy again playing the same > character? Playing a different character? I'd work for either show. But it's all up to the Producers and the Fans of the shows. If enough people ask to see my character again, I would think it'd be in the show's best interest to bring me back. I've gotten a lot of emails with plot suggestions, some suggested love stories, others suggested that I was really an evil vamp already. People seemed to have liked me in the show and as a bad-ass detective. I think it'd be great to be an established character that floated between ANGEL and BUFFY. But I don't control whether or not I come back or what would happen with my character. (so send in those letters) > 8. Did you watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer or Angel regularly? Will you in > the future? I was not a regular ANGEL or BUFFY watcher, tending to watch (perform and write) more comedy based things. But I liked it and so, it seemed, did many people. > 9. Have you seen your episode? What did you think of it? (Feel free to write > a long answer, I'd like to place it in the "Points Of View" section of the > review.) Given that it was the first episode I've seen, I don't feel qualified to give a review. I found it interesting and entertaining and would watch it again. > 10. Have you read through our site? What do you think of it? Not yet. But I will. In my next update page, I'll ask my webmaster to link to it from my update or resume page. > Well, I hope I'm not bothering you too much. Our site tries to provide a lot > of detail and inside information. Feel free to sign the guestbook. We've > added a link to your web page within the trivia section of "The Shroud Of > Rahmon" review, I hope that is acceptable. Completely acceptable. I hope you and the fans of the show appreciate both the answers and the performance I gave. All the best, Tom Kiesche http://get.to/tomkiesche
