"Buffy,
I've gone through some fairly dark times in my life. Faced some scary things,
among them the kitchen at the fabulous Ladies Night club. Let me tell you
something; When it's dark, and I'm all alone, and I'm scared or freaked
out or whatever, I always think, 'What would Buffy do?' You're my hero.
Okay, sometimes when it's dark and I'm all alone, I think, 'What is Buffy
wearing..?'"

Here's
what Joss says
about Buffy during the DVD commentary for 'Innocence': "I created Buffy
the Vampire Slayer as a movie a long time ago to protect, as I've said,
the blonde girl in the alley who always got killed. One of the distinguishing
features of the blonde girl in the alley, who always got killed, is that
she actually had sex. She always seemed to be punished for it, and I thought
it wasn't fair; so Buffy was created as a sort of stereotype buster on
that level."
Buffy is a feminist heroine,
but she's not exactly a shaven-headed Ripley or a long-oppressed Thelma
or Louise. Buffy kicks the arse of many a man, but she is also a normal
girl (a normal woman), preoccupied with whatever the hell young women think
about. In this way, Buffy is a fully-rounded character with a multitude
of facets - which is a pretty confusing mixed metaphor, but it's the best
thing I can come up with.
Much, much more about Buffy
in my writings.
