Whoah, this threw me for a loop when I first heard it!

Personally, I am caught between two opinons of this. I have to admit, learning Faith's last name would satisfy a certain curiosty of mine, and I'm glad that Joss and Mutant Enemy are deciding this instead of, say, some wannabe novel author or comic writer. I mean, obviously Faith does have a surname, so that whole arguement that she has that whole rockstar, Madonna, thing doesn't really apply.

But I do think it gives Faith a bit of a mystique to her if we dont know her last name. Buffy had the perky sounding last name, the family, the friends, that whole "suburban" life. Faith didn't; she's hard, darker, and I think that giving her a last name might damage that at least little bit. I think if Joss is gonna give her a surname, he needs to be absolutely sure that it fits her, as with his other Buffyverse character creations. Whedon has a great talent for naming characters of Buffy and Angel, they're unique sounding, strangely fit with their character's personalities (like Faith and Buffy's decievingly sweet names) and they're names that we couldn't imagine anyone else having. I just hope that its going to translate over to his decision for Faith.

Not to anger any Kendra fans here, but I could care less about her last name. It was stated that she didn't know what her last name was, because she'd never really known her parents (or something along those lines). Not to mention the fact that she is dead. So I dont think its going to make any impact whatsoever when hers is revealed.

I really don't care what her last name is, aside from the fact I'll have to go and edit Origin, heh.

Isn't Faith's possible last name LeHane?

Yeah, it was revealed on Slayerverse yesterday as Lehane, I think.

I think I like it, but I'm still not sure how to pronounce it properly. I'd really appriciate it if someone helped me out with it Sad

From the spelling I would guess it's spoken pretty much the same, short "le" with a strong "hane" at the end.

Thanks Mike, but if you were right wouldn't it be spelled LeHane or L'Hane? this thing was really bothering me so I did a little research of my own,, and according to http://www.irishgen.com/surnames/variantdetails.asp?surname_id=477 Lehane is a one variant of Lyons (where other variants are O'Lyne and Lane) so I reckon that "h"in Lehane is more likely to be silent than strong Confused.I was kind of hoping Ali would solve this mystery but I guess she's bussy updating the Solace now that the surname is out.Anyways If you find the time check out the link and let me know what you think Wink

It's been my experience that most people outside of mainland Europe don't really care about the spelling of a surname like Lehane. Funnily enough, my last name is French and also begins with "Le"...and everyone says it the same (that being, with the short "le") I assume it's going to be the same with Lehane. It won't matter whether it's LeHane or Lehane....it's gonna be pronounced L'Hane

In Ireland - we usually just accent things with 'GH' because that IS slightly different to English. But when it comes to how "Le" would sound - there's no need to accent it one way or the other Smile (in Irish)

Sorry for the delay btw. We ARE working on Solace. (Not just the surname - the whole site - we're switching the backend (again!) It's a HUGE pain in the butt! Evil or Very Mad Anyway, hang in there - we're going as fast as we can Smile (which is slow thanks to holidays, illness and loads of work *cries*)

btw- I don't like LeHane as the surname for Faith. It doesn't address her ethnicity in the least. Eliza (obviously) is zero like any Irish or Scots I've ever seen - EVEN the ones from Galway where all the Spanish influences are. Not saying her surname had to reflect her ethnicity - but it would've been nice if it had. *sigh* Oh well...not a lot more to say, really. Confused

I don't think it fits her. But why would Joss design her a name when the show is already over?

Hey Mike - how's Origin going? Cool Well, I hope! Also - I assume you want us to change Faith's name from Winter to Lehane? (Just asking b/c you never know)

Loes - JW gave Faith a last name for future books, comics etc. Obviously, while Faith having no last name suited her down to the ground on the show - there are many authors out there that need her to have a last name- for a wide variety of reasons.

Yeah, I suppose you can go ahead and change it...even though I say my name is soooo much better, heh.

As for the new story, it's not going at all at this point. School and my jobs have been keeping me way busy lately...just this weekend alone I have three yearbook articles to write, a midterm to study for, and a film essay to complete. Shocked
