The writing makes the character. Eliza Dushku brings her to life, but the writers are really the ones that create Faith, and hands down to them!
Who do you think is the best Faith-scribe? The writer who makes Faith seem the most real? Gives her the most fitting dialogue, actions, looks?
For me it would have to be Doug Petrie, no doubt about it. He seems to know Faith better than anyone, and whenever he writes, Faith always feels the most real, if you know what I mean. He wrote most of the Faith-related episodes in Season 3 (Revelations, Bad Girls, Enemies), and I'm convinced that he helped make s3 so awesome (IMHO).

I'd say Petrie, also, just because he wrote some of my favorite episodes. Other than that, I have no idea which other writers were responsible for Faith's development...was always too lazy to pay attention to the names at the bottom of the screen. _________________

LOL I used to be like that, until I met Ali. She's always pointing stuff like that out to me, so now I've started noticing too.
It's kinda nice actually, most writers really have a style of their own, which you can recognize. Like, Doug Petrie writes a lot of angsty stuff. Joss writes a lot of WICKED angsty stuff. Jane Espenson writes incredibly funny stuff. And so on.
Overall, over the whole series, I'd say that Jane Espenson is my favorite writer. I just love pretty much every episode she's ever done (Triangle, Gingerbread, Band Candy, Earshot, A New Man, I Was Made To Love You, Conversations With Dead People, Storyteller). She just combines comedy with sadness and poignancy so well. _________________ :: Close your eyes and and see

Doug's my man (although her penned the worst Tru ep ) Doug was able to make us feel such sorrow for Faith - but at the same time mangaged to make her cocky as hell - something I love but is often overlooked with Faith imho.
Jane's the woman, too. She totally rules for the reasons Sasha said I'm excited about her run on Tru. She sticks very close to Doug's take on Faith. Granted, she didn't write an ep, but she did write Haunted which I very much enjoyed.
I also loved David Greenwalt's Faith, Hope and Trick. It was a great intro for Faith and whether by accident or design, I always feel Faith's arrival mirrored Eliza's in so far as personality goes - she's zesty, personable and adds a whole new dimesnison to the Buffyverse.
Jim Kouf (Five by Five) is actually a big screen writer (Stakeout/Rush Hour etc) so it was no surprise that one shot of his was so awesome
As for Seventh Season - I felt really let down by the 7th season writers -even though they seem prretty pleased with themselves. I didn't really think they did Faith any justice. That rubbish about Faith hanging with the guy with the bullwhip? It was stupid and fed all those NC-17 fic desires and little else. Buffy and Faith rarely interacted - which was annoying and Buffy and Spike beating Faith down? Both were unnecessary. and it just all seemed so forced. It's depressing.
Oops - I've digressed Sorry. But yeah, Doug is Faith's main man. imho |
