Nashville Vulkon Report: Day 1
- by fiatlux & Nighthawk

Friday Night, October 31, 2003

I should probably just label this “early Saturday morning” because Nighthawk, Ladyhawk, and I didn’t get to the hotel til 11:30pm. I could already see that this was going to be MUCH calmer than Dragon*Con - no naked people in the lobby.

So we ran upstairs, dropped off our stuff, and hurried down to the ballroom to catch the end of the dance. I threw on my sorceress robes while Hawk tossed on a long sleeved striped shirt and declared he was going as James Leary. Ladyahwk simply went as her charming self.

It didn’t take long to find Myth and wish, and EVERYONE in the ballroom knew a reunion was going on because all us gals were screaming our heads off. I was thrilled to finally meet Myth in person, and wish looked stunning in her French maid costume. I also got to meet Crazy4Spike who was wearing a FANTASTIC Victorian vampire costume. (More on that later.)

Ok...first off, Nighthawk here. Fiat should have told you that this was going to be a "She saw, He saw" kinda thing. But hey, she didn't so I am...k? k.

anyways, i'll dispense a different point of view (i'm a guy so it will be the correct version of course...LOL)

As Fiat stated, we didn't get to Nashville until around 10:30 or 11pm because we took my kids trick or treating before heading out and it's a 2 1/2 hour drive from my house. Once we arrived (and parked in the hotel parking garage, thank you very much! no towing of my vehicle for a second straight con!) we took a nice, clean, uncrowded elevator and went to our room. I tried calling Myth and Wish a few times (cell phones work much better when they're on, girls...think about it...) but to no avail. Well, we decided to head on down to the dance/costume ball and have a good time for what little time was left. I, not being able to find a kick-ass Neo costume, rummaged through my suitcase and found a shirt that looked curiously familiar. I had a flash of brilliance (please, keep your comments til the end...) and decided to go as a one Mr. James Leary. We got down to the dance and found Myth and Wish in their pre-determined states (ie. drunk) and I said to Wish, "Hey, guess who I am?" She got this look of surprise on her face and screamed "OH MY GOD! You're James Leary!!!!" I then proceeded to go up to James and I tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and got this look of shock on his face. "Holy Shit! You're me!" He turned to the people he was with and said "Look! Look! This guy dressed as me!" He then turned back to me and said "That's so perfect! The sad thing is...I own that exact shirt!" How funny is that? He then proceeded to call me by his name all weekend...

I personally wasn’t thrilled with the music, so I didn’t mind that the music ended only ten minutes after we got there so that everyone could run upstairs for a showing of James Leary’s movie “Stunt Cocks.” Ok, I’m not gonna ruin the movie for anyone, but I have not laughed that hard and at the same time been that close to being offended since I saw the South Park movie. This is definitely NOT something for the timid. James Leary is a riot though.

We finished off the evening hanging out in Myth and wish’s room chatting, looking at pictures, and eating kilbosa!

After the dance (which only lasted 10 mins after we got there) We were in for a *ahem* treat. James Leary was screening his short film "Stunt Cocks" in an upstairs suite...Can i just say that I'll never look at Cetaphil the same again? If you get a chance to see this movie, do it...It absolutely hilarious.

After laughing our asses off, buying a copy of the movie for ourselves (and again having James Leary call me him again by offering to autograph our copy to himself...LOL) we headed up to Myth and Wish's room for the mandatory kielbasa...yummm... At this point, Wish decided she wanted to pass out and the rest of us decided to meet in the morning for breakfast, registration and photos...

More to come...same Bat time...same Bat channel....

Expect next time, Hawk doesn't get to be QUITE so cocky. And I'll just leave that comment about his "brilliance" alone. *wink*
