- Hate

Yea, you all know what I am talking about. You see the word and automatically your stomach feels all gushy and you see blood red. Well, at least here lately that is what it does for me, however it is more a sick feeling. You see, I have this theory; I hold it close to me, for it often rings true. There is a psycho everywhere you turn.

Psychos, you know the ones I am talking about. People that think they mean something more than they are and also are under delusions that famous people send them messages through radio songs or by a car horn. Yea, those are the ones I am talking about. The same ones that spoil all the rest of the normal “us” times. I don’t care if it is at a con, on the street or at a movie premiere. Thanks to psychos the celebrity is now burned after a while, I mean, who could actually blame them? I wouldn’t.

Ok, so I may do a David jab here and there, or a Sarah Diva crack, but what I pride myself on is not spreading malicious gossip that is degrading and insulting about a celebrity, unless it is in regard to something that they have been quoted as saying by a reputable source. Or unless they piss me off in person as certain person has done and then, I just tell people my bad experience. Hey, even then I think the JCB comments are not mean, but deserved.

What I don’t understand is some of the fans that taint the name of fans everywhere. The ones that go to great extremes to see an actor, which they do not like, just to hope that their presence will send a statement. Yea, those are the ones I am talking about. If you been around a con, you can spot them a mile away. It is like a groupie on a bad bender and a temper to boot. You know they know the actor because they will not shut up about it. It is not name-dropping it is name flooding. They walk around with this strange sense of specialness like they are better than anyone else there, when everyone but them can see that the strange sense of specialness is just them trying to pass gas.

Now, Joss forbid an actor/actress gets on the bad side of one of these fans. Their obsession gets channeled onto taking the actor/actress down, no matter what the cost, or how utterly pathetic it makes them appear. They spread that are out to destroy an actor’s reputation, join up with other groups that may not like the actors due to the characters they play and the next thing you know there are wildfire rumors zinging around the internet.

Now you all maybe wondering what has gotten me onto this kick, I will tell you soon enough perhaps, but let me cover some more ground first.

It is so very wrong to spread damaging rumors. The person spreading the rumors may not realize that. You may say oh, it isn’t bad what I said, but by the time it passes a few people, it will be. No gossip is innocent. They all damage and hurt. Those of you know whom you are that I am talking about. It sickens me that a person would even think about saying that a respected actor/actress would have a heavy substance abuse problem and then call that person a name that is classified as a sex offender.  That is just plain wrong and childish, that someone would be twisted and cruel enough to post that crap. You may have the freedom of speech, but there is also a thing called slander and that is what you are doing.

It truly amazes me the garbage that is around this Internet. I have had to seriously think of even writing this article or not, but then I decided that if I ignored this problem, I would become part of the problem by not stating that it is WRONG!

Get a life, grow up and please for the sake of all the fans… stop name-dropping. It doesn’t prove anything to us and we really could careless. If you notice, the people aren’t laughing with you, but they are laughing at you. Take the hint, crawl back under a rock and leave the celebrities alone.

Now, why I have you all captivated under my charming spell, I just want to rant about something else I hate. What is up with Charisma on Charmed? Does anyone else just see that as plain wrong? See plays a seer on Charmed that looks like Cordelia. And I thought the gray shirt on Angel was an eyeful….. wow. I really like her hair and tan, but she reminds me too much of Cordelia. Hope it was a good experience for her and some more work comes out of it, good luck to her, I just thought it was wrong from the standpoint of above.

Shifting gears once more, I am not name-dropping here, but since Dragon*Con, I been doing a lot of Firefly watching as you can probably tell from my new obsession of Firefly icons. Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin are hilarious, pure and simple.  Nathan reminds me of Mal in The Message. There was a scene where Gina is talking to Jonathan M. Woodward about stealth and Mal comes running and shooting at the Alliance as he is yelling, “I’m here! I’m over here!” That moment seems to embody the person I met at Dragon*Con.

I truly did not know what to expect from meeting Adam and Nathan, it was slightly formed in my mind as being impersonal, but it turned out to be nothing like what I imagined. Nathan was friendly and personable, shaking my hand. I totally forgot that he had ever played a bad guy, because I couldn’t see it. (By the way, my whole idea of asking him to call me a dirty girl was voted down.) He was tall as I had expected, I’m tall as well, and he was taller than me. He made you feel that you had his entire attention for the time you were with him, even before you reached him. His eye contact was the key, he made consistent eye contact and not in the creepy ‘I’m staring at you” sorta way.

Then there was Adam.

On the panels, there was some difficulty understanding his responses due to how soft he speaks, so I the most nervous about him because I didn’t have a clear feeling on him like I had of Nathan and Jewel from the panels. When he offered to shake my hand without me intonating it, well that put me at ease. He was not as talkative as the other two, but he was as equally as nice. Again, taller than me, but not as tall as I imagined from watching him on Angel, it was not a disappointment trust me.

This brings me back to my point earlier, I would never write nor say anything that I would not say to the actors/actresses’ faces. (Ok, so I chickened out on chastising Mr. Baldwin on beating up sweet Amy Acker thing, but still.) For some people, it sickens me that they abuse the right of freedom of speech, but then again, I remember that so many have fought to give that right to us. It still makes me sick. While watching our shows and supporting our ‘Verse, please keep this in mind: Do not lower yourself in spreading harmful rumors.  While they maybe celebrities, please remember that more importantly, they are people. They laugh, cry, bleed, have feelings, all of that, just like we do.

If you act like an ass online, then you probably are an ass offline. Just remember that.

Fogey: Uh yeah sorry to get carried away on a minor side point. The main thrust of your musing was good and I agree whole heartedly with it.

Myth: Aeryn - great article. It is a shame how one twisted person can make comments that have the potential to hurt someone's reputation or career. Thank you for bringing our attention to this fact. If no actors want to appear at future Cons...I think I will understand. - - As far as CC is concerned...every role I have seen her in since ATS has her in a 'Cordy' type role. I never watch CHARMED and won't.

Aeryn: My comment about Cordy S1 Was the hair. She looks like it. Then you hit it home with the it would be odd to see them playing parts on a non-ME show like what they played before. That is all, nothing more. It is odd.
(29.09.2004, 19:41)

Fogey: Yes it would be odd to see them cast in the same role on a non-ME show. We appear to define Cordy differently. Cordy on Angel was a good person who had visions forced on her. That did not occur on BTVS and was not a full time part of her on Angel. The Seer sought to be evil and seeks visions for evil purposes. A different role than good little Cordy had on Angel. Typecasting Cordy as a self centered controlling person ala early BTVS is what I saw on Miss Match.

Aeryn: Ah, so, if Aly was to go on Charmed as a witch, Sarah show up as a vampire hunter, Amy show up as an alien Goddess, David and James as vampires with souls.... you wouldn't see it as an odd thing?
(29.09.2004, 14:26)

Fogey: Aeryn - It was Miss Match and Charisma played Serena Lockner a character who in my view was closer to a Cordy clone than the Seer on Charmed.

Kirsten: Aeryn, the last line sums everything up SO incredibly well! Kudos, sweetie!
(28.09.2004, 23:38)

Aeryn: I liked her on MissMatch thing, was that what it was called?
(28.09.2004, 22:53)

Fogey: Umm yeah I know she was just a side note to your article but I wanted to clarify ideas on what that part meant. My car horn hasn't been receiving Charisma too well since Angel shut down. It is getting harder and harder to keep in touch with her.
(28.09.2004, 22:30)

Aeryn: I find it typecasting I guess. Fogey I know they are same actress, but doesn't she look like she did when she was youger? Isn't it uncanny? I saw her as trying to recapture someting possibly, but she is like only a paragraph, nothing else has to do with her :)I just want to clarify that point. :)
