Lie To Me: After a betrayal that makes Buffy question who and what she can believe in, she turns to Giles for reassurance. They both know that he can't provide it, but it doesn't stop him from trying anyway.

The Dark Age: Facing a literal demon from his past, Giles orders Buffy to let him fight his own battle, but she won't let him fight it alone. Buffy admits that seeing Giles' darker side scared her, but she accepts him, mistakes and all, and finally sees him for the first time as a real, whole person, instead of just as a "grownup".

Innocence: Braced for Giles' scorn after she "releases" Angelus, Buffy is touched beyond words to receive his unwavering support and respect when she needs it most.

Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered: Giles, searching for the BuffyRat: "I don't see her. If anything happens to her I'll..." the 'kill you' is implied, but he won't say that to Xander. The love whammy gone awry has Giles plenty disappointed in Xander already, but when it puts Buffy in danger, the disappointment sparks to real anger. He doesn't even want to hear Xander apologize for his mistake. "Just go. Get out of my sight."

Passion: This episode forged Buffy and Giles into a devoted team like nothing else before. After finding Jenny's body in his bed, Giles is hell-bent on vengeance. He attacks Angelus with a flaming baseball bat, determined to kill him or die trying, but when Angelus gets the upper hand, Buffy intervenes. She pulls Giles from the buring building, but he isn't at all grateful. She clocks him in the jaw, sending him sprawling to the pavement, yelling at him for trying to get himself killed. They hold each other, crying, while Buffy tells him, "You can't leave me. I can't do this alone."
