Buffy vs. Dracula: Believing that Buffy no longer needs him, Giles is ready to return to England, but when she says she needs him more than ever, Giles is happy to stay at Buffy's side. Sounds so simple when you break it down like that, but the expressions on Giles' face speak volumes.

Real Me: No profound drama, no world in peril, just Buffy and Giles enjoying a drive in his new car. They're energized, ready to tackle their training with renewed vigour, and it's wonderful to see Buffy teasing him again.

Fool For Love: Determined to learn more about what killed the Slayers before her, Buffy is frustrated by the lacking accounts in the Watchers' Diaries. Giles, however, understands perfectly. The idea of having to chronicle Buffy's death haunts him more than he can say.

Checkpoint: Giles is enraged at the Council's insistence on seeing Buffy as an instrument, but even more touching than his anger on her behalf is Buffy's quiet admission that they picked the perfect thing to threaten her with when they said they'd take Giles away from her.

I Was Made to Love You: The Scoobies all give Spike the cold shoulder after he demands Buffy's affection in 'Crush', but Giles' approach is more forceful. He shoves Spike against the wall, refusing to listen to the vampire's excuses, and tells him to move the hell on.

Spiral: Near death after taking a spear to the gut, Giles insists that Buffy was right to run from Glory. He admires her ability to put her heart above all else and tells her that she's everything a Watcher... everything he... could have hoped for.

The Gift: Buffy is willing to accept Ben's promise to keep Glory away from them, but Giles knows it isn't that simple and makes the hard choice to kill the god's vessel to prevent her return. Moments later, Buffy sacrifices herself to save her sister and the world, and Giles' anguish is profound at seeing his worst nightmare come true.
