Just converted the fiction ratings to the Fan Rated system, and I'd like to welcome the newest clique members, Sarah, Sachs, Brent & Sara! (Oh, and I added a pic of the last Oakpark Street layout to the gallery ;p)

What first attracted me to B/G, long before I ever started 'shipping them, was the kinship that they share, the common bond of having a destiny thrust upon them, whether they welcomed it or not. From the beginning, Buffy made it clear that Giles' role as an authority figure existed solely at her whim. Instead, they approached each other as equals, and while the Council may have frowned on their closeness, it helped them to become the most successful Watcher/Slayer team in history. She relied on his support, insisting that she couldn't do it without him, and he dedicated himself wholly to her service, placing her health and happiness above his own.

It wasn't until S3's 'The Prom' that the idea of a romantic aspect to their relationship occurred to me. But once it did, I was immediately intrigued. I spent that summer immersed in fanfiction, and by the time we saw Buffy get so totally thrown by Olivia's visit in 'The Freshman', I was completely sold on the potential and promise of Buffy/Giles. Throughout the rest of the series, in the seasons that followed, Buffy and Giles had their ups and downs, but wherever their relationship stood at any given time, this pair was at their best when they stood together.
