Slutty Pumpkin [edit]
It's Halloween '05. The gang is in the bar telling each other what they're each doing for Halloween. Robin will be spending it with her new guy, Mike. Marshall and Lily will be going all out in a costume. And Ted will be at the roof Halloween Party, found on the roof of their apartment building which he has gone to every year the past 4 years. Ted reveals to Robin the reason he goes to that party is, 4 years ago he met a girl dressed up as a slutty pumpkin. Its slutty because it was carved "stragetically." He learns that she's a Marine Bioligist, and once studied penguins for a year in Antartica. She also made up her own cocktail called "The TootsieRoll" made of Kahlua and rootbeer. He got her number on a Kit Kat wrapper, but the candy was accidentally given away by Lily to some trick-or-treaters.
Halloween night: Marshall is dressed up as Jack Sparrow, from Pirates of The Carribean, and Lily is his parrot. Ted is going in the same costume he's gone in the last 4 years, a hanging chad. Barney is going as Maverick from Top Gun. Barney and Ted go to the (lame) roof party, while Lily, Marshall, Robin and her date Mike go to the bar. At the bar Mike watches Lily and Marshall be a "cute couple" and tries to slyly show that he and Robin are a cute couple too. He fails, and Lily and Marshall notice, yet Robin is oblivious. Lily and Robin go to the Ladies' room, and Lily tells Robin that she needs to step it up as a girlfriend, or she's going to lose Mike. Robin decides her first step is to share her dessert, which she ends up being very greedy about, and unable to refer to her and Mike as "we".
Back on the roof Ted is alone, as Barney had previously ditched him due to the lameness of the party and the fact that he was rejected by a girl dressed as a hula girl. Barney later reappears in a different costume, the devil but with a mask. He attempts to hit on the hula girl again, and is once again, rejected. Barney decides to leave once again, and go to a Victoria's Secret Halloween party that's being held on a yacht.
At the bar, Mike decides to call it a night. Robin is surprised, and asks why. Mike tells her that he doesn't think that she likes being with him. She likes to do things by herself, and alone. He breaks up with her. Later, Lily and Marshall win the costume contest.
Back on the roof, Ted spots someone dresses up in penguin outfit, making themself a drink out of Kahlua and rootbeer. He walks up to the girl to see if its her, and asks her. The penguin takes off its head, and underneath is Barney. The hula girl comes out and notices that Barney the penguin was also Barney the fighter pilot, and is very upset because she gave her number to Barney the Pengiun. She tries to get her number back but Barney refuses, so she walks away.
The party on the roof is ending, and Ted is sitting alone. Robin finds him on the roof and reveals that she just got dumped, and wonders why she doesn't want to be in love like everyone else around her. Ted reinstates Robin's faith in herself and in love. Robin asks how he sits around and waits for love, and Ted knows that the love of his life probably wont be walking through that door, but he might as well sit and wait.
