 | What Happens When Buffy Is Done Baking? A new campaign has launched to make a Buffy/Angel big screen movie come true! |
What Happens When Buffy Is Done Baking?
Once again we celebrate those fans who refuse to fade away by raffling off an chance to win some action figures in honor of their continuing efforts. Last time, we raffled off a Faith action figure as tribute to those fans who are campaigning for a Faith spin-off. This time we focus on a group of fans who are hoping for a Buffy/Angel movie on the big screen and to find out what would happen once Buffy is no longer cookie dough.
Angel Raffle
We don't know about Buffy, but the fans are done baking and here's a chance for one lucky cookie to bring Angel home. From now until July 24, every $5 donated to the Whedonverse Multimedia Project will automatically enter you into the drawing to win a 12" Sideshow Angel Action Figure. According to Sideshow Collectibles, this action figure is a limited edition with only 7500 in circulation. By participating in the raffle, you will be helping us to provide Buffy, Angel and Firefly DVDs to the organizations on our waiting list.
In addition, anyone making a donation during this time will have their name added to a card that will be sent to David Boreanaz and Sarah Michelle Gellar via their management letting them know that fans would love to see a big screen movie and letting them know about fans helping to get Buffy and Angel DVDs into public libraries.
Interview with Buffy/Angel Movie Campaign
Whedonverse.org corresponded with Ruth from the How's Forever forum to find out more about their Buffy/Angel movie campaign. Here's what we learned:
When did the campaign for a Buffy/Angel movie begin?
As soon as we learned Angel had been cancelled! We'd already been longing to see more of the Buffy gang and it seemed the perfect time to combine actors an characters from BOTH shows to "raise the bar" as David Boreanaz has suggested and aim for a big screen movie. We've heard from both David Boreanaz and Sarah Michelle Gellar that they are open to the idea of a big screen movie, Joss has often expressed his wish to revisit the stories and so it seems obvious to us that it SHOULD happen. The sooner the better too.
Is there something specific the campaign wants to see in the movie?
To see the natural progression to and of the Buffy/Angel relationship, the relationship Joss Whedon says "transcends everything" (we had a lovely bit of hope in the ending of Buffy in "Chosen", the hope for the future for the two of them). To recapture the joy and magic of the entire scooby gang. More Faith/Angel/Buffy interaction. We want to see what everyone is doing. In fact, so much that it may require more than one big screen movie. *g*
Are there other characters included in the movie campaign?
We would love to see: Giles (until the inevitable Ripper series/spinoff!), Willow, Xander, Oz, Faith (until the inevetibale Faith series spinoff!), Gunn, Illyria.
What types of activities has the campaign done to promote a movie?
Postcard campaigns, email campaigns (both targeted to Joss, and FOX who owns BtVS/AtS), we have presented fan made binders to Joss Whedon, David Boreanaz, we are currently working on a binder for Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ad campaigns in the Hollywood Reporter, online petitions, going to conventions to spread the word, live journal campaigns, you name it, we're willing to do it. We encourage fans to support the Buffy/Angel verse in terms of the comics, the books, we hope to see the Buffy animated project take-off...
We also feel that one of the most important things fans can do in the meantime is to support the actors and creators/writers in their current and future endeavors.
Has the campaign tied any of its work to supporting a charity?
For Joss Whedon: we have a "unique and very Jossian" campaign idea for him *g*
For SMG, we have discussed both Make a Wish and Habitat for Humanity, both of which SMG has expressed an interest in or helped with.
How can fans participate in the campaign?
Through our link: http://lmblack21.proboards36.com/ You can find all kinds of discussions and topics there and many banners that we encourage folks to put up on their sites to advertise our efforts.

The Whedonverse Multimedia Project would like to thank Ruth for taking the time to do this interview. For those of you attending the Angel Booster Bash, you will be able to meet Ruth at a "Future of the Verse" symposium on Sunday evening. She will be co-hosting the event along with a representative from the Spike movie campaign and the organizer of the Whedonverse Multimedia Project.
