 | Star Trek Producer Michael Piller died, but what has his dead to do with the Buffyverse? Aintitcool's Herc knows! |
DEEP SPACE NINE Creator Michael Piller is Dead.
I am one sad Hercules.
Five reasons why Michael Piller dying sucks:
1) He practically saved the entire “Star Trek” franchise from extinction when he joined the writing staff of “The Next Generation” a couple years into its run.
2) He created “Deep Space Nine,” easily the best of the “Star Trek” series.
3) He masterminded “Star Trek’s” open-submission policy, which got Jane Espenson’s foot in the TV-writing door.
4) He created the TV version of “The Dead Zone,” another great show (at least while he was running it).
5) He was only 57 fucking years old.
----------
He died November 1, 2005 because of cancer.
Michael Piller co-created "Star Trek - Deep Space Nine", "Star Trek - Voyager" and "The Dead Zone" and he was a writer on "Star Trek - The Next Generation". I think all these shows are above average TV-shows.
"Star Trek's" open-submission policy does not exist anymore. OK, there is no show on the air, but they dropped it some years ago, before UPN cancelled "Enterprise".
Please don't tell me, you don't know Jane Espenson!
She was co-executive producer on "Buffy", "The Inside", "Gilmore Girls" and "Tru Calling" and she wrote some "Angel"-episodes and a "Firefly"-episode.
23 "Buffy"-episodes were written by her!
