Fans, even casual viewers, of Firefly will recognize this coat. While there are many imitations out there, there is only one original Browncoat. It was worn throughout the series by Nathan Fillion as Capt. Malcolm Reynolds.
The current owner is auctioning this piece of memorabilia off. That's right: the iconic browncoat will be up for grabs, and the high bidder will take home probably the single most recognizable symbol of Firefly.
Now, we're of a mind that Nathan should have his browncoat. When he brought Mal's character to life, he made it his own onscreen. This gift would represent our gratitude for the leadership Nathan has shown on- and off-screen for the cast, crew and fans of Firefly and Serenity. Who better to own this coat? And as the present owner made mention, Nathan's birthday is coming up in March, and you know this fits him.
And to that end, ladies and menfolk, we have a job. Bidding is going to start at USD $1500. Very few of us could afford that on our own, let alone whatever the final bid is going to climb to. But together...well, together, we stand to give 'em a fight. The idea is to get all like-minded Browncoats to pitch in that they can, and all the donations we collect will be pooled into one bid for the coat on eBay.
Now say that we get outbid and just flat don't win the coat. What happens to all that coin? We put a little aside for a birthday package, and the rest goes to a charity of Nathan's choice. Your donation is guaranteed to go to a good cause.
