Valentines Love for the 'Verse

Love the universes created by Joss Whedon? Let the powers that be know about it this Valentine's Day!
The People over at Whedonverse.org want to express their love for the 'verse! The intend to send valentine cards to Joss Whedon, Mike Ausiello, Kristen Veitch, Dawn Ostroff (president of new CW network), Dana Walden (head of 20th Century Fox) and Stacey Snider (Chairman of Universal Pictures). The cards express the love for the 'verse and to thank them for their involvement in creating or supporting the show or in some cases just to let them know we'd all love to see more of the 'verse on television or film. So if you would like to support this project read the follwing and send your postcards to the addresses listed below. Here's what they had to say:

"As a Whedon fan, when I think of Valentine's Day I can't help but remember that painful day back in 2004 when Angel fans found out their beloved show was cancelled. Last year at this time, I worked with Spike fans to help keep the dream of a Spike telemovie alive by sending Kristen Veitch at E! Online a bouquet of flowers and a note reading: "A year ago our hearts were broken, we don't need an Angel to fix it, but James Marsters could get our blood flowing again." Not long afterwards, Kristen interviewed Marsters where he repeated his previous statements that he would be willing to reprise his role as Spike, but it would need to happen sooner rather than later. It was a source of hope.

This year I'd like to do something similar, only in addition to Spike, I hope this year's plan will provide all Whedonites with an opportunity to express their love for the 'verse regardless of which character or show you prefer. So, here's the idea: send Valentine cards to Joss Whedon, Mike Ausiello, Kristen Veitch, Dawn Ostroff (president of new CW network), Dana Walden (head of 20th Century Fox) and Stacey Snider (Chairman of Universal Pictures). The cards are to express our love for the 'verse and to thank the person for their involvement in creating or supporting the show or in some cases just to let them know we'd love to see more of the 'verse on television or film.

For our part, the Whedonverse Multimeda Project will send a bouquet of flowers to Joss Whedon via his representative at Creative Artists Association. It will be accompanied by a card thanking him for Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Serenity. It's tempting to beg him for a Spike movie and more Serenity, but we'll try to resist the urge.

In addition, the Project will be sending a small token of our thanks to two reporters in the media who have been staunch supporters of all things Whedon: Mike Ausiello of TV Guide and Kristen Veitch of E! News.

Mike has included several positive stories about the Whedonverse in his columns, has conducted several Whedon-related interviews including ones with Mr. Whedon himself and asked network executives on multiple occassions about a Spike movie.

Kristen helped Whedon fans in their efforts to save Angel from cancellation, created a special poll just for the Whedonverse, promoted the idea of a Spike movie and repeatedly wrote positive comments in her column in support of Whedon, his fellow writers and the actors from his shows.

Both will receive a tin of a dozen assorted cookies via the Carolina Cookie Company and a note thanking them for their continued support for the Whedonverse.

We'll also be sending Valentines to Dawn Ostroff (president of new CW network), Dana Walden (head of 20th Century Fox) and Stacey Snider (Chairman of Universal Pictures).

Should the new CW network need some quality programming, we'd like them to think of Joss Whedon and to consider airing some future Buffyverse/Angelverse projects or even a completely new tv series. If Joss isn't free, there's always Tim Minear. We hear he's been tapped to write a Spike movie, not to mention as a talented writer he could create a truly intriguing new series for the network.

20th Century is the production arm of Fox with the television rights to both 'verses. The shows may not have ever existed without their involvement and they are key to having any future stories told on the small screen and possibly straight-to-dvd as well. It couldn't hurt to let them know we still love the verse and would like to see more.

Then there's Universal which scooped Firefly up from the oblivion of tv cancellation to turn it into the big damned movie Serenity. Mary Parent, who was strongly behind getting the movie made is no longer at Universal, but there's no reason not to thank the big wigs who are still there. "
