Plot of "City of...":
Angel, a vampire with a soul, arrives in Los Angeles. Having left Sunnydale and his true love Buffy (the Vampire Slayer) behind he is searching for a place to call his own and a way to make a difference. Doyle, a half human, half demon, is sent to him by “The Powers That Be” to help him on his path. Doyle advises Angel to live among the people of the city so as to avoid losing his own humanity. Doyle also reveals that he has had a vision of a young girl in trouble, and tells Angel where to find her. The girl’s name is Tina, and Angel learns that she is being stalked by a powerful vampire. As the investigation goes deeper, Angel learns that this creature preys on many aspiring actresses, and his latest target is an old friend from Sunnydale who has just arrived in the City of Angels.

I was very impressed by a gorgeous list of pros and cons made by our User "Sym". Have a look at it!
Positives
(+) Angel’s monologue that leads to him to be appearing being drunk at the bar; “Los Angeles. You see it at night and it shines. Like a beacon. People are drawn to it. People and other things. They come for all sorts of reasons. My reason? No surprise there. It started with a girl.” Angel talking to a bald guy, “She was a really, really pretty girl. No she, she was a hottie girl. She, she had.. I mean.. her hair was.. You know? You kind of remind me of her. Because, because, you know.. the hair. I mean.. the hair.” Another guy then comes up from behind him and asks for a drink and Angel says, “Girls are nice.”
(+) Angel walking out of the bar, and later rescuing some girls, and walking off again, down the alley in the scene, that’s shown again at the end of the opening credits.
(+) Doyle telling Angel the story of well, Angel. This wouldn’t normally be good, and it’s clearly there for viewers who have never watched BTVS but it’s cool just how Doyle said it and how Angel responded; Doyle: “Let me tell you a little bedtime story.” Angel: “But I’m not sleepy.” After Doyle begins to tell to the story, Angel says, “Okay. Now I’m sleepy.” When Doyle finishes, Angel then says, “Okay. You’ve told me the story of my life, but since I was there, I already knew. So why aren’t I kicking you out?”
(+) Doyle asking Angel, “Have you looked into a mirror lately?” After hesitating for a moment, he then says, “No, I guess you really haven’t.”
(+) Angel jumping in the wrong car and after trying to get the keys to fit, he looks over, sees an identical car and says, “Damn It!”
(+) Cordelia sitting on her bed, cross legged, "I am somebody. I matter. People will be drawn to my positive energy and help me to achieve my goals. I am right where I am supposed to be.. and not dying for something to eat!”
(+) Angel leaning in on the guard booth and asking the guard, “How are you doing. I think we’re lost. We are looking for a Roscomere. What are you watching? Is that the game? The Vikings on?” He then knocks the guard out.
(+) Cordelia walking around in Russell's room, and after noticing the numerous curtains and the lack of any mirrors, she tells Russell, “Hey You’re a vampire” Russell then said, “What? No, I’m not.” Cordelia: “Are too!” Russell: “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Cordelia then tells him that she’s from Sunnydale, that they had their own Hellmouth, and that she would know a vampire when she sees one.
(+) Doyle hearing a gun shot and driving off but then stops, turns around and speeds towards the gate, but the gate stops him. He then says, “It’s a good gate”
(+) Russel telling Angel that he can do anything he wants. Angel then, with 1 foot on the chair, asks him, “Can you fly?” He then pushes the chair along with Russel out the window, as he then bursts into flames.
(+) The music was good in this episode, especially the “I’m Game” theme, composed by Christophe Beck.
Negative(s)
(-) I didn’t like the new vampire make-up in this and following episodes, especially on Russell.
