Gorgeous, though gut-wrenching, chapter. Poor Spike. All that love and trust, and he didn't know what to do with it. Now he might've blown it for good. I hope he can be the one to fix Dawn's freshly jaded spirit - her trusting nature has to be the best part of her character. I am enjoying this story so much. One of the best things I've read in a long time!

At first I was a little confused when the timeline jumped from the first chapter to the second, but as I kept reading I realize how the story is developing to lead to the new reality. I really like the Dawn/Spike reluctant friendship...it's cute. Good job so far! Please keep posting!

technically since we are messing with memories, it doesn’t really matter how he dies, just that he dies.  Besides every interaction that is centralized around Dawn is technically fake.  Okay, you caught me

 

I think that, due to the changes in Buffy's feelings toward spike, and your first chapter, it might make more sense to categorize this fic as what would have happened if Dawn was created a few years earlier, rather than these being the memories that were created with canon dawn. That is how i was reading it until i saw the above, and i think it makes much more sense, crazy time memory bending-wise.
