Title: The Heart of Her
I'll try this again. Apparently the review didn't take the first time. Basically I was excited to find my first menstrual -blood -as- aphrodisiac story. Knew they were out there of course - vampire, young woman avenging angel, sex. I'm new to the the genre and this was my first time. I knew it would be a turn-on, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it was more than just sex. This is truly an important coming-of-age story.
Granted that it's likely just for a community of deviants, but still I wish I had the nerve to read this to my young cousin who is SO having trouble with the whole sick, tired and weepy thing. I sure would have appreciated this at about age 14.
Thanks,
Thelma Lee
Author's Response: I'll freely admit that menstrual play is my biggest kink when it comes to the Jossverse. It's a bit taboo, but so loaded with potential for character insight and really thoughtful symbolic explorations of femininity, purity/pollution, etc. that I come back to it again and again in my work. I'm glad that you took something more away from this story than a bit of superficial titillation. This is my first posted fic and I remember really wanting to say something meaningful with it. No matter how raunchy the content gets in my stories, I always try to tie is back to who the characters are and use that physicality as a way to garner some deeper character insight. Sex is a veil for so many deeper issues, especially when it comes to Buffy.
I write all sorts of pairings. If you're interested in more blood play (and a place to see my Spuffy work that's shorter than 1000 words), swing by my Livejournal at http://clawofcat.livejournal.com and have a look at "Unquenched," "Truth Discovered" and "Little Lost Lamb." Those specially bring up menstrual play. A number of other fics also deal with more general bloodplay :)
As for the "community of deviants," I'd like to think that we're all more than a bunch of perverts looking for kicks :P
For another superb writer and dear friend, check out http://only-passenger.livejournal.com/profile. She also has a number of fics that have menstrual play (which you can find listed on her profile), including "Losing the Battle." She writes amazing Spuffy. Can't recommend her enough.

This was an absolute joy to read, seriously. You are an incredibly gifted writer and I was just amazed by the whole piece. Well done on a fantastic fic. I can't wait to read more from you.
Author's Response: Thank you so much for the kind review, squawks. I have the continuation of this fic archived here already if you're curious to see where the two of them ended up after this encounter. Lately I've been working on some non-Spuffy fics that are posted over at my LJ, but I have a new one in the works that hopefully will be ready sometime in the next week or so.

Yes, wonderful fic! Can't wait for more. I always wondered (about the series as well) why the vampires didn't really pick up on her 'flow' days. I mean, the movie touched on the subject that she got crampy whenever they were around, but it's good to see a fic that focused on that. Very earthy. Loved it.
Author's Response: Thanks so much for the lovely review, Carrie. And I agree with you. Menstruation seems like a rather obvious kink for vampires and it's curious there isn't more fic out there on the subject. And you don't have to wait for more =) The next part of the series, Show Me How, is already posted here. Enjoy!

How hauntingly beautiful! And wonderfully written! I would say this would be a great stand alone, but now I'm curious what other ides you have for it. Can't wait to see what else you come up with!
Author's Response: Thanks for the f/b, Rocco. This fic will be one in a series of stand-alones. I will be posting the next one in a few days. Keep an eye out for it.
