I loved the "love" scene. Anyone can write a "sex" scene (if for no other reason than that there are plenty of examples out there to follow), but to write a love scene that actually feels intimate is something else. Well done.

very hauntingly beautiful. i think this is the very first fic where spike is NOT a sexual person. no one wants to read about misery, but this story was touchingly written - with care and respect and kindness and with passion (no, not the sexual kind). very inspiring.

wow. that story was absolutely amazing. i have to say it was probably one of the most sad and beautiful stories i have ever had the pleasure of reading. i honestly think you should go back and change all the names and some of the lines you borrowed from the btvs series and send it into a publishing house or something. it is honestly an amazing story. since it really has nothing at all to do with btvs and is totally your own. the only thing that is even remotely the same is the names. the personalities are out of character (promise im not criticizing...i think thats a good thing for this story) but also its not your usual story, stories like this are usualy written to where the girl went through the abuse, not the guy, which puts a whole other spin on it. i think it was wonderful and brilliant and you should be extremely proud of yourself. and you should really consider turning this into be published.

OMG! that was seriously like one of the best stories i've ever read in my entire life!!!!
i completely loved it!
it was really long, and usually i get bored after awhile, but you just kept it so detailed and interesting.
you kept me on the edge of my seat through the whole thing, and i seriously love you for it.
this story is what i needed to read, seriously!
i loved it.
it was fantastic.
i think it's funny how you made xander gay, though. kinda ironic, because he was supposed to be the gay one in the show, anyways.
lol
anyways, great job, and i can't believe it's over already!

So you know what I think about Spuffy and all that and reading fics about them. But your story has really captured me. You even made me tear up at the "I don't want you to love me." scene. Really heartbreaking!
I'm gonna keep reading this, can't promise I'll read it *all* today but I'm definitely going to finish it. And I'll probably drop a comment here and there ;)

Wow that was epic. It was a bit hard seeing Spike as such a victim in of the story. I think I would have liked to have seen some more of his 'tough guy' stance that he had in the beginning of the story carried into the later parts. Ethan was just sooo evil - a very disturbing character indeed. I was also still waiting for poor Buffy to find her way out of the Double-meat and that awful hat.
Author's Response: The hat, yeah... *lol* I'm sure she'll get away from that place eventually. And as for Spike being more of a tough guy in the beginning, well, it was mostly an act he put on before he was ready to deal with his problems. Hope you still liked the story a little bit. OMG... I can't believe this has come to an end. I've read since you first posted, waiting on updates with bated breath. It has been an incredible journey through a topic I am sure you found difficult to write. I'm definitely glad you didn't rush the tale or compromise it, and am so glad you stuck it out (not dropping the ball as so many writers in fandoms seem to do) to the very last word. It was heartwrenching so much of the time, but so well-written, and in the end life-affirming.
