Summary: Life can be difficult when you are fifteen years old with a baby and few options. Fortunately Buffy Summers is a resourceful girl. Spuffy. All human AU in Four Parts. It's a high school fic with actual high school coming up in Parts Two thru Four. This is a very long saga and will be completed. NOTE: The ratings and warnings I am giving for this story do not represent the entire story - they allow for occasional forays into difficult subjects, but most chapters do not dwell there. It's not a fluffy story, but it is not unrelentingly grim. Like life, it flows among the highs and lows. IMPORTANT: Although Parts One and Two are mostly R content, beginning in Part Three the story will move into more NC-17 territory. ‘The Song Remains the Same’ consists of Parts One and Two. Author's Response: BarbC's suggested that Spike would have a bull terrier "spirit animal" if such things happened in Buffyverse fic. Here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bull_Terrier The older version, circa 1915, fits him, I think. As much as I love the idea of Pomeranian!Spike, I think Buffy's mythical 18th century father would breed something a bit more in the hunting/working dog range.

Author's Response: Lol. Believe me I wanted to put that in too but I had to stop myself. In saving that for the sequel, because (even though it's late) this was planned to be a spuffy fluffy Christmas fic. So I'm trying to save all the action for the sequel that involves at lot more plot.

Summary:

Post-Season 5, an alternate reality take on Season 6, but not so crazy-alternate that anyone's unrecognisable. Starts with strong Spike and Dawn friendship, and builds from there. Just lots of small tweaks that pack a punch - like the odd bit of honest communication amongst the Scoobies.

Be warned, Buffy is dead until Chapter 5, and the rating is mostly intended for later in the story.

This story is still being updated: expect new chapters every month-ish.

How does Tara have money? I've never seen her have a job and her family disowned her. Did her mom manage to squirrel away something for her that Tara's Dad didn't know about?

Willow I can understand having money, since I'm assuming her parents are still supporting her while she's in school.

She's at university, she has to have some money... Grants, scholarships, loans, etc.

And she hasn't paid any rent or other living costs besides food for 5 months, but has presumably still been getting loan etc money.

I imagine there may also have been some kind of disability payout while she was crazy, plus I don't imagine she was spending much of her own money then.

Season 6 Buffy is clinically depressed and is fairly heavily absorbed by self-hatred and guilt. She has also been trained to think demons = evil, humans = good. This whole part of her journey is making peace with the fact that she kills sentient beings - something the Council always tried to protect her from; and that she is *allowed* to have feelings for a vampire. She will not always think like this, but it is how she is thinking in this moment.

Giles, I realize finding a therapist for somebody with Buffy's issues, who's not gonna yell for the guys in the white coats when she starts talking about vampires and being raised from the dead, is not gonna be easy. But you need to do something. I would hope the Watcher's Council has somebody with a psychology degree who can deal with depressed or traumatized Slayers. Buffy can't be the first Slayer with problems like this.

By the way Giles, if you are going to continue to live in Buffy's house, shouldn't you be paying rent too?
