STORY OF THE MOMENT - SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

For the Story of the Moment...you can submit your own story or nominate another story to be selected. But please understand that I reserve the right to choose what goes up on my page. I will not put up any stories that are badly written. The Story of the Moment was designed to spot-light stories that I thought were really great. I will only put up stories that I feel are excellent.

Please do not be offended if you send in a story, and I don't pick it. This is completely subjective. I get to choose what I like for the page (because it's mine and all :)

For this reason MOST Stories of the Moment will continue to be selected by me on my own.

Don't let this discourage you from sending things in...just realize that I am picky about that page.

Follow these guidelines for sending your submissions:

CONTENT GUIDELINES

This is the only section of the site where NC-17 fics are NOT allowed. The reason for this is that the story of the moment is specifically intended to be something for everyone, a variety of fics to highlight great authors and fic, and I didn't want to exclude people who aren't comfortable with or old enough to read NC-17 fics. Anything from G to R is acceptable, but no NC-17.

FORMATTING

Do NOT send me stories in html. I will have to reformat them and it will be a pain in the butt.

When you're indicating a paragraph break, leave a space instead of indenting because a lot of times the indentation doesn't show and I have a hard time figuring out where the breaks are.

Ex: Angel walked to the sofa and sat down. He threw a glance at Buffy who was standing in the kitchen. She drummed her hands against the countertop.

"What are you doing here?" he asked.

Also...many people use symbols to indicate thoughts (like *, _, or <). If you're using the carrot < > to indicate thoughts leave a space between the symbol and the beginning and end of your thought. Ex: < Why did I say that? > he asked himself. If you don't the thought will disappear when I format the story.

YOU MUST: Proofread your stories. Or at a minimum, spell check them. You don't have to be perfect, I'm certainly not. But your story must have some sort of point, and it must be legible. If you don't take the time to at least try to get the grammar right, I'm not going to take the time to put it up.

TO SUBMIT:

Send your story to me either:
by giving me the URL where your story is located on the internet
OR
pasted into an e-mail with Story of the Moment Submission in the title --
OR
attached to the e-mail as a TXT or a DOC file.  -- (Send only ONE attachment at a time. If you send more than one at once, AOL will not let me get any of them and you will have to resend it or I will simply discard it.)

Make sure you include:
the name you want used as author (real or pen name I don't care)

the e-mail address you want any feedback sent to

and a heading that includes
RATING (G,PG, etc.)
CONTENT (why it has that rating)
SPOILER WARNINGS (if the story gives away details from an episode)
SUMMARY (a short summary of the story)
DISCLAIMER (something along the lines of...I don't own these characters. Joss Whedon, the WB and Fox do.)
WEBSITE URL (If you have other stories up on the net, so I can provide a link to your other fic)
