Explanation of the conversion: I'm not sure how to define his ability to become beheaded and survive. I'll work on it. Lorne's energy blast is a super high-pitched scream that can shatter nearby glass and disable attackers.

History: The demon today known as the host was born Krevlornswath of the Deathwok clan, in a hell dimension called Pylea. Lorne, as he preferred to be called, wasn't like the other Deathwok clan demons. He would rather flirt with the female demons and enjoy life then learn to be a fighter. He also enjoyed beauty, art, and even music, which was difficult considering his world had no music. He refused to train his innate mystical senses to learn to hunt beasts. He was considered the shame of his clan. One day in the Earth year 1996 he happened upon a dimensional portal, and was sucked through it. He landed in Los Angeles.

Once in Los Angeles Lorne discovered music and culture like he never imagined. He learned to hone his mystical senses to read people's auras, but found it easiest to do so when they sang, bearing their souls. He decided to open up a karoke bar on the spot he arrived on Earth, an old abandoned building. He contracted the Transuding Furies to cast a sanctuary spell on the spot, which stopped any demon violence from occurring on it. He named the bar Caritas, the Latin word for mercy. The bar became a hit in the Los Angeles demon scene. To most who visited the bar, he was simply called the host.

The Host Lorne would often sing for his audience as well as listen, for instance singing I Will Survive (929kb). When Wesley Wyndam-Pryce needed contacts with the demon world he found his way to Caritas, where he brought the good vampire Angel to gain information. At Angel Investigations used Caritas to gain access to demon contacts, but it wasn't long before Angel was on stage singing Mandy (673kb) for Lorne, who helped him find a woman he was supposed to protect (Judgement 2.01).

''There isn't a destroyer of worlds that can argue with Manilow...'' - Lorne

The Host Angel returned to Caritas to sing Everybody Have Fun Tonight (619kb) when he discovered his deceased sire Darla was alive again. Despite Angels obsession over Darla, Lorne advised him to avoid her (Dear Boy 2.05).

''Hey, I set people on their paths, okay?... and this is way off your path, sweetie. Go home.'' - Lorne

The Host Angel returned to Caritas to try to settle his Darla issues and Lorne sent Angel to the swami T'ish Magev to help him. Sadly a bartender overheard this conversation and leaked this information to an enemy of Angel, who had an imposter put in Magev's place (Guise Will Be Guise 2.06).

''I'm sending you to him. You need more than I can do for you. This guy... he'll shock your chakras, fillet your soul... whatever you need. Go to him.'' - Lorne

The Host When Angel learned Darla was human and dying he took her to sing Ill Wind (2.1mb) at Caritas. Lorne sent Angel to a series of trials that might be able to save her life (The Trials 2.09).

''People try to kill you everyday. I'm talking about Ramone. Over heard us, betrayed me. The man was a world-class bartender. He made a sea breeze that took you to Tahiti. Mmm. He's off the menu now.'' - Lorne

The Host After Cordelia Chase, Wesley and Charles Gunn were fired from Angel Investigations, they each found their way to Caritas where they got drunk and sang We Are The Champions (279kb) very badly for Lorne. Although they wanted guidance on the direction on their lives, Lorne let Cordelia's vision of a demon do the guiding for them. After slaying the demon the crew decided to keep Angel Investigations running without Angel (Redefinition 2.11).

''Well, well, I can see the maudlin segment of tonight's binge is in full swing. Now, don't be blue. I was very impressed with your musical recitation of pain earlier, and when I say pain, I mean mine. Although props for singing your little hearts out.'' - Lorne

The Host He has also taken a more active role in some cases like when someone came into Caritas, sang and he sensed that no-one had a future after 10pm the next night. He helped Angel track down the guy and they stopped the world ending (Happy Anniversary 2.13).

''What's today? Thursday? Tomorrow night, the world's going to end. I thought you might want to know.'' - Lorne

The Host When Angel wondered what was going on with all the demonic sacrifices Wolfram & Hart was practicing around town, he went to Caritas, only to discover many of the firm's lawyers were already singing for Lorne. Lorne told him about the coming review by the senior partners, and clued Angel in on the Band of Blacknill (Reprise 2.15).

''...I really can't divulge to you what I read in another being, but I can tell you what I overheard in the men's restroom. It's coming Friday, and it's got all their legal briefs in a twist about it... every seventy-five years your friends over at Wolfram & Hart have this review. I think the general angst isn't so much about the review, but more about the reviewer, and let's just say it ain't Rex Reed... It's evil. It's dark. It's merciless. Actually, now that I say it out loud it sounds an awful lot like Rex, doesn't it?'' - Lorne

The Host Lorne kept trying and finally did manage to convince Angel to rejoin his crew after their breakup (Epiphany 2.16).

''I'm not deaf, you know? Jeez, keep your pants on!.. Well, I see we're a little late with that advice.'' - Lorne

The vampire Harmony then arrived in Los Angeles. There she caught up with her old schoolmate Cordelia. Cordelia was shocked to learn her old friend was now a vampire, but was determined to help her anyway. Cordelia took Harmony to Caritas, where she sang Memories (256kb) for Lorne. He told Harmony to stick with Cordelia. After Harmony betrayed Cordelia and her co-workers at Angel Investigations to a cult of vampires, Cordelia told her to leave Los Angeles and never return (Disharmony 2.17).

''I think your friend should reconsider the name Harmony.'' - Lorne

The Host When Wolfram & Hart lawyer Lindsey McDonald wanted to know what was wrong with the hand he had recently received in a transplant he went to Caritas and sang California (1.25mb). Angel Investigations also showed up about that time looking for clues on a man who killed his family after receiving an eye transplant. Lorne told them they were on the same case and tried to get them to work together. This eventually lead to Angel and Lindsey discovering an organ harvesting farm Wolfram & Hart were running and destroying it (Dead End 2.18).

''Well, you know what they say... The hand is quicker than the eye. You'll get that later.'' - Lorne

The Host While Lorne was entertaining his audience with a rendition of Superstition (789kb) he was interrupted by another visitor from Pylea, a Drokken beast who fell through the same portal and landed on stage at Caritas. Lorne went to Angel Investigations to help him stop the beast. They ended up learning of a girl named Winifred Burkle who disappeared years ago and accidentally opened up another portal to Pylea. This time Lorne's cousin Landokmar of the Deathwok clan came to Earth. Landokmar was able to track the beast, but was wounded by it's poison bite. Angel slew the beast and they opened up another portal in Caritas to send Landokmar back for the cure to his poison. Sadly Cordelia was also sucked into Pylea, and ended up alone in a forest (Belonging 2.19).

''Are you gonna help me or do I have to break out my champion rolodex?'' - Lorne

The Host Although Lorne was very reluctant to join them in rescuing Cordelia, a visit to his friend psychic Agnus "Aggie" Belfleur persuaded him to go on the mission to Pylea. Once there they were captured, but discovered that Cordelia had been made a princess when they discovered her visions (Over The Rainbow 2.20).

''Oh yes. Home sweet hell.'' - Lorne

Host Wesley and Gunn joined up with a group of human rebels in Pylea. They were joined by Angel and Fred and together staged at attack on the castle to free Cordelia. Angel faced the Groosalugg in single combat, but Cordelia stopped them before Angel killed the Groosalugg, who she was in love with. With the Covenant of Tromboli defeated, Cordelia ordered all slaves freed and set up the Groosalugg as monarch of Pylea to rule in her place. Fred and Wesley were able to use the books of the Covenant to open a portal back to Earth. After returning home they found out from Willow that Buffy had died (There's No Place Like Pltrz Glrb 2.22).

The Host Lorne was crooning I Left My Heart In San Francisco (1.5mb) when Wesley and Gunn visited Caritas looking for information on the vampire James (Heartthrob 3.01).

Host When Angel, Fred and Gunn took a vacation to Las Vegas to see Lorne, they uncovered a plot by his manager to steal people's destinies. Although Angel lost his destiny and all motivation to help others, Cordelia helped get him to save his friends. When the group returned to Los Angeles they discovered Cordelia waiting for them in the Hyperion lobby, but with no memory of her life (The House Always Wins 4.03).

''Fluffy! Fluffy, the dog? The dog you don't have? The universally recognized code for 'I'm being held prisoner. Send help.''' - Lorne

Lorne acquired a magic spell which was supposed to restore Cordelia's memory. Angel, Fred, Gunn and Wesley helped him cast it. The spell went wrong and left Angel, Fred, Gunn and Wesley with the minds they had as teenagers. After some misadventures in the hotel Lorne was able to talk Fred into helping him fix the spell, and everyone's memories were restored fully (Spin The Bottle 4.06).

''No pain, no side effects. I'm telling you, swingers, there is no way this can fail... So I'm an idiot. What are you? Perfect?'' - Lorne

Trivia: On Angel the part of host is played by actor Andy Hallett.

Powers: Lorne can read people's auras, and their futures. He uses this power to set them on their path in life. He can also read their thoughts and emotions when he does this. He has excellent hearing, and can hear outside the normal human range. Lorne seems to be immune to the intoxicating effects of normal alchol, but is effected by certain magical brews.

Lorne speaks spanish as well as the language of Lubbar demons and Nadrah demons.
