David Boreanaz
Angel

Character History

David Boreanaz plays Angel, man of mystery. His character, a 242-year-old vampire, is just as original as it gets. After being cursed with a soul for feeding on the prized child of a gypsy tribe, Angel was forced to live the life of a tortured vampire who's conscience kept him from feeding off a living human. Angel brooded for nearly a century before being found by another "good" demon, Whistler. Whistler trained him and helped him learn how to do good.

Angel then secretly helped the Vampire Slayer, a 16-year old girl destined to kill vampires. When the Slayer, Buffy Summer moved to Sunnydale, California, he came out of the shadows and made himself known to her. The two quickly fell in love and despite their destiny to be apart, they continued to stay together. Finally, the two consummated their relationship in a passionate night only to have Angel's soul taken away and to have him to return to his life as a vicious killer. He made Buffy's life a literal hell by killing her friends and, most importantly, Ms. Jenny Calendar. After Buffy finally got the courage to kill the demon that once was her lover, she was given back the "good" Angel thanks to a spell Willow performed. Buffy and Angel had only a brief reconciliation though, since Angelus had already pulled a sword from the demon Acathla to suck the world into Hell. Since only Angel's blood could close the vortex, Buffy stabbed him with the sword and sent him to Hell.

In the third season, Angel returned from Hell--naked. After some time, and help from Buffy, Angel returned to his old "good" self. He survived a lot this season, including facing the victims of his past, and pretending to be the evil Angelus again and giving Buffy a real enough view of what he was to make her need her space. Buffy and Angel were on and off for the entire season, but finally Angel decided that it was best if he left and let Buffy move on with her life. In the season finale, Angel was shot with a poisoned arrow, and finally cured when Buffy forced him to drink her blood. He left Sunnydale the following night, not saying good-bye, just disappearing into the distance.

Once moving to L.A., Angel dedicated himself to being a savior of the innocent. Rescuing those in need, helping the helpless, it all became his mission to atone for his crimes. His work has never been without trouble or conflict. Every day, Angel puts his life on the line for others. The return of the woman who sired him as a vampire, Darla, brought out a dark side of Angel he didn't want to release. Eventually he broke down and slept with Darla after finding out that the real evil in the world was the world itself. It marked a milestone in Angel's life when he fired his employees and went out on a murderous rampage alone to try and kill her.

He eventually returned to his proper mission and reunited with his friends. Of course, it came at the price of working *for* his friends rather than the other way around. Slowly but surely Angel and his new employers rebuilt their relationship whil still fighting evil. In the third season Darla comes back into Angel's life bearing a large secret. She's pregnant. With Angel's child. This not being in any way possible, the gang starts trying to find out what kind of prophecy is being fulfilled while taking care of a much stronger hormonally charged hungry Darla. It is prophecied that Angel and Darla will have a child but the last part of the prophecy is unclear and Wesley cannot decipher it. Darla starts to have trouble with her pregnancy and is worried she cannot love the child without a soul...then finally the prophecy is deciphered and it says there will be no birth, only death. Aware that she cannot deliver the baby, Darla stakes herself in the end and only the baby remains for Angel to take care of.

Knowing that the baby is being hunted by several people Angel takes him home and will not let anyone touch him except for Angel. Finally, after a plan to protect his son, only possible with his co-workers help, he realizes he cannot be with the baby 24/7 and accepts the fact that he needs help caring for and protecting his son.

Actor

Living in Philadelphia, David became a part of television at a young age with a father who was and still is the local weatherman for WPVI. He decided to go into acting when he saw an inspiring play, The King and I starring the late Yul Brynner. After that he felt that acting would be where he was headed. He graduated from Ithaca College and then moved to LA to become an actor.

When he was in Hollywood studying acting, he lived the life of a starving actor doing such jobs as parking cars, painting houses, and handing out towels at sports clubs. But when walking his dog, a manager spotted him and signed him immediately. David has now been signed with ICM Talent Agency (that is the major acting agency that also works with Buffy co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar).

David's television works include a guest shot on Married...With Children as Kelly Bundy's biker boyfriend. He also appeared in the television movie, Men Don't Lie. He has had minor roles in feature films such as Aspen Extreme, Best of the Best 2, and Eyes of the World. His stage career includes performances in Hatful of Rain, at the Ensemble Theater, Italian-American Reconciliation and Fool for Love, at the Gardner Stage and on theater row he appeared in Cowboy Mouth.

David was married to long-time love, Ingrid Quinn but they have since divorced. They exchanged vows several years ago. On Thanksgiving weekend, 2001 David married model/actress Jaime Bergman and the two welcomed their first child, Jaden, in May 2002.
