"Expecting"

An overnight demon pregnancy seems like a rather clumsy plot contrivance, but it works here because they play it straight. Instead of going for easy laughs, the episode shows Cordelia's pain and confusion in believable detail, as well as Wesley and Angel's heartfelt concern. Charisma continues to bring new and subtle shades to Cordelia, and "Expecting" is a show she can be proud of; her vulnerability and resilience are very much on display, but she's never out of step with the frivolous, direct Cordy we all know and love. Perhaps the best aspect of the episode is the way all three characters come together in the crisis. After this, I believed the show could go on without Doyle and might even, over time, be stronger.
