AOL Live Chat mit Alexis Denisof vom 23.1.2001

TVGLive2: Hi Alexis! Thanks for coming tonight!!!

Alexis: My pleasure! Delighted to be here...

Question: Hello Alexis. I just love your performance on Angel as Wesley. He`s my favorite character on the show. Do you know if the show will get more into Wes`s background ? Deal with his fathers alleged abuse, etc.?

Alexis: Well, thank you very much. I`m glad that you like Wesley. I`m fond of him, too. I`m always glad to hear when people like the character. As far as Wesley`s past, I have no idea what`s in store in the future. But, as you`ve been following him, you`ll know that he has grown and changed quite a lot, and I would enjoy looking into his past. There has not been any discussion of a storyline with his father. But, as a fan you will also know that Joss Whedon and David Greenwalt can be very nimble and take the story in ANY direction at a moment`s notice. I sometimes wonder if it`s good to know EVERYTHING about a character`s past. It can often be more interesting to keep some things in the shadows.

Question: do you really drive the motorcycle on the show or is that a stuntman?

Alexis: Both. Not together... LOL. But, we have both driven it at different times, depending on the schedule. When we were first talking about Wesley coming onto Angel, I asked Joss if he could have a bicycle or a moped to be riding around downtown LA on. I thought that would be funny. Little did I know that the first show introducing Wesley that Joss had upped it to a big, bad hog. I`m very glad that he did... :)

Question: Is the accent you have as Wesley genuine, or is it an exaggeration?

Alexis: It`s an accent that exists. It`s a plausible British accent, if that`s the question. But, it`s not the accent I speak with in my daily life. But, I used to. I lived in London for many years. As time went by, I started to sound more and more like a native. When I returned to America, it took me a while to recover the accent of my childhood. But, Wesley`s accent is my version of an educated, upper middle class, Englishman from the South of England with boarding school and Watcher`s Council and a few years fighting demons in LA all thrown in. You may notice that his accent was a bit stronger in Buffy because he had just arrived. Since then, he`s been here longer and he`s changed a little, and both of those affect how people speak.

Question: Are there any changes you`d like to see with your character? if so, what would they be?

Alexis: Well, I really like what has been happening with Wesley. I feel like all the things I would wish for him are indeed occuring. But, it`s always fun to take him away from the books and get him onto the streets. And I like the combination of how they`ve been doing that. I would particularly like to see how he would react to two weeks on the Virgin Islands with lots of scuba diving, windsurfing and fraternizing with the locals.

Question: I heard that you were going to be in Beyond City Limits with Alyson Hannigan, is this true? And if so, when will it be released?

Alexis: Yes, it`s true. We shot that a long time ago, and have heard very little about it since. Although, I did just receive some papers to sign regarding it. So, maybe it will be distributed after all. I had been working on the movie for about a week when I looked at the call sheet for the next day and saw Allison`s name on it. I called her up -- we were friends at the time -- and said "Hey, is there anything you want to tell me." She said, "What do you mean?" I said, "What are you doing tomorrow?" She said, "Well, you won`t believe it, but I just got a movie." I said, "Yeah... Beyond the City Limits." She said, "How did you know?" I said, "`Cause I`m looking at the call sheet." And then we just kinda screamed and giggled at each other on the phone.

Question: Hi Alexis, I`m a big fan of yours and of "Angel" . . do you have a favorite moment on either "Buffy" or "Angel" for Wesley?

Alexis: I think one of my favorite moments on Buffy was standing at the prom with Giles. I love working with Tony and he`s an old friend. We made each other laugh A LOT during that scene. But, I also liked the two Watchers in dinner jackets at a high school prom. As far as Angel, there have been a lot of great moments. I enjoyed the show when Wesley had to pretend to be Angel. And I enjoyed the first show, when he arrived. And, of course, you may have noticed I`m partial to falling down. So, it`s always fun to have a comic turn. And I`ve enjoyed the serious side, too. So, all in all, I have not answered your question. But, I guess I just like ALL of it. :)

Question: Do you have any other upcoming movie or tv projects in the works?

Alexis: No. I`m reading a couple of scripts and I`ve met on a few things. But, it`s still too soon to tell if I`ll do something this hiatus or not... particularly with labor negotiations. There may be nothing shooting this summer if a strike goes on. But, the strike is not definite. So, we`ll just see what happens.

Question: You have quite a strong and loyal fan following. Have you visited any of the websites dedicated to you or to Wesley?

Alexis: I recently did, for the first time in a very long time, when I was at my family`s house over Christmas. And was very flattered and touched to see the interest in Wesley and the show... and even me. I have also had very nice letters from people, so I know you`re out there. :) And when I get a computer of my very own, I can come visit you in cyberspace.

TVGLive2: Thank you Alexis!!! We`ll definitely be watching tonight. Please come back and talk with us again soon.

Alexis: Well, thank you for your questions. Thank you for being here this evening. Thank you for watching the show. And all my very best wishes to every one of you. It`s been great fun, and I look forward to the next one.
