Why are the display images visibly watermarked?

Example 1

This is an example of why. The original of this image, "Once in a Blue Moon", can be found in the BTVS/ATS Gallery 2. Though I've sized this bastardized version down here, it's obvious someone took it via a screen capture from this site, chopped off my sigs (evidenced by the fact the proportions are no longer proper for a desktop background), butchered it with an ugly filter and posted it, claiming it as their own work.

I'm tired of it. I put a lot of hours into each fan art image I create and I enjoy sharing them with fellow fans. But I do not appreciate having my work turned into garbage by someone who doesn't have the ability, or is just too lazy, to do their own.

The addition of the visible watermark to the display images does not change the terms here. As always, I'm happy to send a copy (which is higher resolution, minimally compressed, desktop background sized and contains only the invisible digital watermark) to anyone who emails me with a request for personal use. But hopefully it will hinder those who were pirating entire galleries and modifying them to claim as their own creations (though why anyone would want to claim the above is beyond me).
