| “She doesn’t mean it, you know.” Buffy jumped as Spike stepped out of the shadows. “And you’d know that, how?” He didn’t know why he cared? Told himself he needed her focused on the battle and THAT was why it mattered. “She was angry, pet. And scared. Only said the things she did to try and get you to stay. Try an’ protect you.” His head tilted slightly as he took in her grief-filled face. “Just give her time; she’ll come ‘round. Mum’s are like that.” The angry retort died on her lips at the sadness echoed in his voice. |
