AN: This is in response to challenge #92 at Bloodshedverse. Rated NC-17 for smutty goodness. Much Spuffyness but with Spike starting out as hating her (and the feeling is probably mutual), but there will come to be Spuffyness as they both come to their senses. Oh, and just letting you know, that I may hint at some m/m stuff... but there won't be any graphic sex scenes, so don't run off when you see the hint of it to come, cause it'll remain only hints...  Deals with issues of rape.

Dark Destinies

~Chapter One~

Buffy left the cemetery after a very weird encounter with Dracula, reassuring Willow and Xander that she was fine. They would tell Giles about Dracula in the morning, she had wanted to get home though and shake the heebie-jeebies she was feeling. She ducked inside the dark house with a frown as she thought to herself, this had to be a new one. Dracula. Sometimes her life was just too corny for even television. Next she was going to run into Lestat. Or Jean-Claude. She would so stake herself if that came next.

She peeled off her clothes and tossed them aside before sliding into bed with a groan. She shrugged as she realized she had never really met a French vampire like the big Hollywood stereotype. She had an overabundance of the snarky British kind that was a punk rocker wannabe, but none of the romantic, smooth talking French kind. Would be a very refreshing change, she thought to herself with a snort.

*****

Across town, Xander was heading home after being a gentleman and walking Willow to her place. She went to cut across the cemetery again. It wasn't the brightest move of his life, but then, who had ever accused the slayer sidekick of being bright. Maybe being the best friend of the slayer had given him a bit of bravado where the demons and other bump-in-the-night creatures were concerned.

He tripped over a broken headstone and popped back up, glancing around to see if anyone saw his act of clumsiness. He chuckled with a small smirk, who was going to see him here. Well, anyone who's opinion he valued. He brushed himself off and turned to continue, but walked right into well-dressed chest. He glanced up slowly into the emotionless face of Dracula.

"Ah!" Xander gave a surprised cry and jumped back, striking a fighting pose. "Will you knock it off with the poofing. Walk up to a person like a real man."

Silence greeted him from the vampire and Xander tilted his head. "Though with that long hair, its a bit questionable. No barbers in Transylvania? Maybe you ate them all?"

Dracula kept looking at him with a blank face.

"You don't look that big and bad," Xander glanced him over and then curled his fingers towards Dracula. "I could take you, mano a vampo. C'mon."

The ancient vampire visibly rolled his eyes finally and waved a hand, "Silence."

"Yes, master," came Xander's quick reply before he frowned in confusion. "Wait wait! No! Stop with the magicky crap, you are so not-"

There was another eye roll and hand wave, Xander going under his thrall immediately and standing there silent. His eyes riveted to the master vampire in adoration.

"You will be my servant. You will walk for me in the daytime. You will be at my beck and call," he stepped closer to Xander, eyes flaring blue as he smirked slightly. "Serve me well and you will be rewarded greatly."

"Rewarded?"

"I will make you immortal, a child of darkness like me." His pale hand slid down over the front of Xander's jeans and cupped him, "Not to mention, I can make your service under me most pleasurable for us both. Sometimes I get bored of my brides and want something new."

Xander's eyes went wide and indignant for a moment, before they closed. He moaned softly as the cool hand started to caress him through the rough fabric of his jeans, pressing himself shamelessly into the hand. "Yes, master, I will serve and do my best to please you."

A cold smile curved the vampire's mouth. "Good," he squeezed before releasing his newest pet. "Now go, keep an eye on the slayer. I have plans for her. Big plans."

"But master, why do you need her if you have me?" Xander whined slightly, pouting at the loss of his master's touch. His hips rocked forward slightly.

Dracula slapped him on the groin and Xander jerked in pain. "You will do as I instruct you. Now go before I find a more worthy servant."

"Yes, master." Xander bowed repeatedly as he back away then straightened when the master vampire disappeared in a puff of smoke. He looked around, bereft, before turning to hurry home.

*****

Buffy tossed and turned in her bed at home as troubling dreams wracked her mind. They were filled with a certain tall, dark, and handsome vampire. Not Angel. She was laid out nude on a large bed in a castle, the room decorated lavishly. She started to sit up, get up and go find a way out of there but then her limbs suddenly felt heavy and she sank back again.

Dracula appeared at the end of the bed, pale muscles flexing in all their nude glory as he crawled up the bed towards her. His eyes were burning darkly with lust and hunger. The eyes burned into her and mesmerized her. A shudder went down her spine as she watched him getting closer and closer, his hand skimming up her bare legs as he crawled up over her. His cool hand paused to nudge her knees apart and then skim up her inner thigh to her most private area.

Her green eyes flew wide at the invasion and she gasped for air. She tried to move away, but found her body feeling heavy... so heavy she just couldn't move from the spot under the weight of his dark gaze. Her hips lifted of their own accord as he began to pump his fingers, her lashes fluttering in pleasure that she couldn't stop.

"Yes, slayer, give into your darkest desires," he murmured as bent over to lick low on her stomach, causing her muscles to jerk. "I can offer you nights of endless pleasure, here with me and my brides."

As he said this, the three brides approached the bed, all nude as well. The brunette, Maryska, went to Dracula, running her hands over him and kissing his neck. The redhead, Anichka, and black haired one, Kriszta, bent over Buffy, one kissing her hungrily while the other latched her wet mouth onto Buffy's breast. His head dipped between her legs, replacing his hand with his mouth, his fingers with his tongue. She was under a pile of hands and mouths doing the most pleasurable things to her, better than anything she ever experienced before in the few sexual encounters she had had so far. Soon she was screaming as her first orgasm rode her hard.

He smirked and rose over her, positioning his painfully hard cock at her entrance. He thrust into her roughly and gripped her hips with bruising force as he kept up his savage pace. Brushing his brides aside, he bent over her and lowered his mouth to his neck. His eyes flared blue and his fangs extended before he bit into her hard, making her gasp and arch her back. He drank hungrily before lifting his head to smile smugly at her.

"I will have you, my little slayer. You will be my newest bride." He promised her darkly and resumed his punishing pace until she cried out again. "They were right, slayer blood is the best. So tasty and powerful... and quite the aphrodisiac."

Her teeth ground together, wishing she could move so that she could wipe that look off his face with her fist. She had to console herself with giving him a deathly glare from where she lay underneath him.

"What a fierce look. I will take pleasure in taming you, lovely little slayer."

He beckoned the Maryska close again and laid her beside Buffy, then easily flipped Buffy over to lay on top of the her. He positioned himself behind Buffy and entered her again, thrusting hard and wild. The motions forced the petite blonde to grind into the Maryska as the bride took her face and began kissing her. The other two brides crept forward to begin caressing them again. Buffy was driven over the edge over and over again from their attentions.

*****

Buffy sat up with a gasp the next morning and smoothed her hands over her face, then burying them in her hair as she lowered her face to her knees. All a dream... all a dream... She took in a few deep, calming breaths as she reminded herself that horrifying incident was just a dream. She lifted her face and looked around the room with troubled eyes before slipping out of bed.

She ached all over as if it had really happened and she felt... icky between her legs. That just wasn't right... I mean, it was just a dream right? If it had just been a wet dream it would be a little... down there, but this just didn't feel right and the aching so shouldn't be there.

She shook her head and hobbled to the bathroom for a steaming hot shower. She ran a hand through her hair and slipped out of her nightie, glancing down at her body. There were very conspicuous hand shaped bruises on her hips and hickies here and there as well. Her brows knitted together and her breathing started to become shaky, her pulse speeding up as she went pale. Her hand went out blindly to turn on the shower... she needed a shower... a hot one... now.

She stepped under the scalding spray and leaned her forehead against the tiles in front of her. She closed her eyes and let the water massage her shoulders and back for a bit while she tried to calm back down. There had to be an explanation for this. She couldn't go to the others about this, though. She just couldn't. She just needed to focus on destroying the bastard and ignore his attempts at distracting her. That's all this was, just him trying to distract her. Just like his parlor tricks.

She straightened to wash her hair and scrub her used body clean before turning off the water. Grabbing a towel, she slipped out of the shower with a sigh to dry off then go to the mirror to comb out her hair. She wiped the steam off the mirror and combed back her hair, and then noticed the bite mark on her neck. Not just the scar she had known for years, these ones were fresh. She shuddered and dropped the comb, darting out of the bathroom and back to her bedroom.

Joyce stopped her in the hall with a smile. "Hi honey, bad nightmares last night? I heard cry out for help a couple times and poked my head in to check on you. You were tossing and turning, but I couldn't wake you up. So I just left and tried not to worry. It was only a dream after all."

"Yeah, only a dream," Buffy smiled and rubbed her hand over her neck to hide the bite marks.

"Well, I came to find you to tell you that Willow called. She told me she was heading over to Giles' apartment with Tara to meet the others and discuss that guy you met last night. That is the message exactly." She dug in her pocket and pulled out some money, handing it to Buffy. "I am heading off to work. You get some lunch after the meeting, okay?"

"Yes, mom. Thanks." She kissed her mom's cheek and then ducked into her room to get dressed.

*****

The Scoobies were gathered at Giles' apartment. Buffy sat curled up in the chair, listening while Willow and Xander told the others about meeting Dracula and interjecting when necessary. She had thrown on jeans and a sleeveless turtleneck to cover the bite marks. She just sat there with her arms hugging herself and only half-listening, looking at an interesting spot on the coffee table. She just couldn't bring herself to meet any of their eyes, especially Riley. Not now... maybe later when the shock had warn off... when Dracula was gone...

"Earth to Buffy..."

Her head shot up and she looked around to see all eyes on her, Willow waving her hand at her. She swallowed, "Sorry... was thinking..."

"We were just asking if you wanted us to go with you on patrol until we've taken care of the Dracula problem." Willow asked with concern, she could tell her friend was feeling a bit worried.

"Oh no... that's okay. I can handle it," she nodded and started to get up. "He's not that tough, just has a bunch of parlor tricks."

Xander snorted. "He is one of the greatest vampires ever."

She arched a brow at him and then looked back at the others. "That may be the hype, but I've come up against worse."

"He is like nothing else. You can't just stake the dark master."

All eyes swung towards him again.

"-bater..." he added lamely and looked back down at the books in front of him.

"Well, we'll do lots of research on him and tell you what we find later. Me and Tara can look on the internet and Giles can look through his books. He's real good at that... probably knows just what books to look in to get the best tidbits." Willow smiled brightly and nodded emphatically.

"And in the meantime, you should be careful, Buffy. Maybe you should take a break from patrolling until we know more," he looked at her with concern. He had noticed her avoiding him the whole time he was here and it was starting to worry him.

"Maybe... I'll think about it. I... just don't want to let him scare me from doing anything. I can't just ignore my duties. That's probably just what he wants..." She shook her head. "And anyways, we don't know where he's hiding and patrolling might help me find where that is."

"Dracula hides from nobody!"

"Okay, Xander... no more sugar for you..." Buffy rolled her eyes and blinked a couple time.

Removing his glasses to polish them, Giles said, "Yes yes, we should find where he is staying and perhaps that will give us an advantage. But, for now we will find out what we can on him." He got up and started heading for the stairs.

Anya grabbed Xander's arm and steered him out the front door. They were followed by Willow and Tara, Willow paused to squeeze Buffy's arm comfortingly.

"You'll meet us at the Bronze before you head off to patrol... I mean," she glanced at Riley. "If you choose to patrol... but even if you don't, maybe just stop by?"

"I'll try my best." Buffy smiled and nodded, waving as the pair left. She looked at Riley briefly before turning to follow them as well, but he caught her arm.

"I'm really worried about you, Buffy." His hand dropped from her arm. "Are you really feeling okay? He didn't try anything, did he?"

"I'm fine. I swear I am." She sighed and brushed her hair back over her shoulder, forcing a small smile for him. "Just concerned and thrown for a loop and stuff... I just need a little bit of rest time before I am ready to be feisty Buffy again."

"I like feisty Buffy," he smiled finally.

"I know you do." She trailed a finger down his chest. "I want to take you home to help me with the R&R..." She said it to play the part that she was feeling her normal self, but didn't really want him there... not until the marks left on her body were gone.

She was relieved when he answered, "Now, R&R always seriously lacks on the first R. Anyways, I'm going to go hit up a few contacts, see what I can find out myself. Maybe I can get some leads on where he's shacked up. I'll call you later though and check on you."

"Nah, don't bother with that. I'll probably be sleeping. Didn't get much last night."

"Okay, well stay safe and I still don't think you should go out just yet."

"I'll be fine." She assured him again.

*****

Buffy walked into the house and dropped the bag of Chinese take-out on the coffee table before dropping onto the couch. She leaned her head back with a groan. She really hoped her friends found something helpful. She needed it. Maybe she should be helping them, but she just didn't feel up to it. She didn't feel up to staying around them, with their watchful eyes. The longer she was with them the more the chance they would notice something.

She squeezed her eyes shut for a moment and then opened them again when images from her dream haunted her. She flipped on the television, hoping a movie would help distract her for awhile. She forced the take-out down, stomach tied in knots as she watched a romantic comedy.

After a bit, she just couldn't sit there anymore. It just wasn't helping. She went to her room and changed into shorts and a sports bra then headed to the basement for some exercises. Maybe if she exhausted herself... maybe...

*****

At the Bronze that night, she slipped in early and headed for a table in the back corner. Away from everyone else. She had thrown on a red halter and black leather pants with a wide black velvet choker around her neck that had a red rose on it. She actually almost hoped her friends didn't spot her or show up or something... She didn't even know why she came.

She looked up from her drink as she felt another presence at the table, expecting Willow or Xander. Instead, it was the bleached pain in her ass. She sighed and looked away.

"Right crowded in here t'night, slayer. Can' be the band, they're bloody awful." He made a pained looked as he settled his arms on the table. He looked over at her with intense eyes, letting them travel over her body. He tilted his head as he studied her in that hot little outfit she was wearing, his pants starting to get a bit tight.

"Um, what are you doing here?" she asked slowly. She looked back at him with a slight frown.

"Got a bit of a hunger for some spicy buffalo wings. Not too bad here. That and sometimes its amusin' t' watch the kids makin' fools of themselves." He started to dig out a smoke for an excuse to tear his eyes away from her for just a moment.

"I mean at my table... as if we were all chummy... which we're not and couldn't be further from."

"Didn' see anyone else here. Was sittin' here all alone like that and thought you might like some company for a few minutes." He sniffed slightly as he smelled something a bit off and wondering if it was coming from her. He took a drag of his cigarette and went to take another sniff at whatever it was, but stopped at her words.

"Not yours." She said coldly. "Why don't you go annoy someone else. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll be so annoyed they stake you. Or you fall onto something pointy all on your own. The only reason I don't do it myself is because you are so pitiful, what with the chip and living like a hermit, the laughingstock of the demon community... its more of a punishment to let you go on. And you're so far beneath me its not worth the effort." She slid off the stool and headed for the door, missing the cold and deathly look directed at her back.

He ground his barely used cigarette into the table top. His nostrils flared as he started plotting her death. Painful and bloody death. Yeah, the chip would hurt like all hell, but it would be well worth it. Or, he could get someone else to do the dirty work for him while he watched, getting off on it big time. Or just turn her into a demon... then the bloody chip wouldn't get off and he'd get the pleasure himself.

Yes, he liked that last idea. He had a few demon contacts he knew could pull it off. He was sure they would love to help him rid Sunnydale of the blasted, annoying slayer. He got up with an evil gleam in his eyes and slipped out the back door to go make his plans.

Buffy got to the door just as the Scoobies were finally arriving. They hooked her with their arms, unnoticing of her intent to flee as they led her to a table near the dance floor. They sat down and started chattering excitedly. All except for Xander who wasn't even trying to curb Anya's blunt or strange comments and Buffy who just nodded along. At one point, she glanced behind her towards the corner she had been sitting in to see if Spike was still there. She sighed when she didn't see him. That was probably a good thing... Why couldn't she just stake him? It would make her life so much easier...

Willow and Tara got up to dance when a song they liked began to fill the air. Anya tugged at Xander's arm, wanting to join them. He begged off, claiming to not feel well. So pouting, she went off on her own to join Willow and Tara on the dance floor among the other gyrating bodies.

Xander and Buffy continued to sit there silently for a bit more. He kept looking at her and it made her a bit uncomfortable. Did he notice something? Maybe she should leave.

"You look a bit tired, Buff. Been sleeping well?"

Her green eyes snapped towards him in guilt and suspicion. She shifted in her seat and smoothed her hand over her hair nervously. "Not really. Do I really look that horrible?"

"Oh, of course not! You're beautiful! Stunning! Perfect!" He assured her quickly with a wide, crooked grin.

She blinked at his enthusiasm. "Eh... thanks... but yes, I think much needed rest and no patrolling tonight for this little slayer."

"Yes, you should get some rest, Buff," he agreed and stood. "How about I give you a ride home? I'll tell Ahn that I'll be right back. Don't want you walking home too pooped to defend yourself if something nasty comes along, especially Dracula."

She nodded and he went out onto the dance floor to find Anya. He leaned forward to whisper in her ear, "Me and Buffy don't feel too well. Gonna drive her home and then go crash at my place. Don't want you catching whatever I got."

Anya smiled up at him and kissed his cheak before waving him off. He went back to Buffy and took her arm, leading her outside and around the corner to his car. He opened her door and when she put her back to him to get in, he took the opportunity to clock her in the back of the head. She slumped and he lifted her into the front seat before going around to get in. He drove them to the outskirts of town where a creepy mansion sat, pulling up in front of the door.

*****

Buffy woke up with a groan. She was going to hurt Xander later. Why had he done that? She tried to sit up but her arms were bound above her and she looked up at the elegantly carved headboard, then around the large room. A shiver of apprehension ran through her. This was the room from her dream. The one in which Dracula and his brides had done all that... with her. Her mind tried to shy from it until it hit her that this time it might really happen to her. She whimpered slightly. Oh god no...

Instantly, Dracula was standing beside the bed and she jerked in surprise. He smiled wickedly and sat down beside her, running his hand over her body. She looked down and confirmed her fears that she was totally nude there. Oh, this wasn't going to go well, she thought. She tried to wiggle away from his hand, but he simply yanked her back.

He cupped her cheek and looked deep into her eyes. "I would much prefer to take you with you surrendering of your own choice, taking part eagerly and voluntarily giving me pleasure in return. But, I do not mind using my thrall if you fight me," he told her threateningly and started to remove his clothing before climbing onto the bed and lowering himself above her.

She looked up at him in alarm and considered his words. She was going to get it either way. Some would just say that she might as well give in, but she wouldn't be able to live with herself afterwards if she didn't put up a fight. It was a pride thing. Sure, she would probably still have nightmares... but she would know she fought all she could. So when he started nudging aside her right leg, her left leg came up into his gut and she tried to kick him off the bed.

He growled and grabbed her legs, pinning them down painfully wide. She cried out in pain, glad for being a slayer or she might have a dislocated hip at the moment. "You have made your choice painfully clear." He hissed at her and instantly put her under his thrall.

His smiled grew, taking great joy in forcing himself on a slayer. THE great slayer. The bogeyman of the demon world. He would have even more joy in having her as his bride, as his slave. Able to use her where and when he wished, and how he wished.

He took vicious possession of her body over and over, just like in the dream. He beckoned his brides close to take part in welcoming their soon-to-be sister. Anichka undid the bonds on Buffy's wrists so they could move her about as they pleased. She was no longer a threat, under the master's thrall and surely too exhausted by now to be taking on four vampires.

Once they had their fun, Dracula drew her into his lap. He held her tightly with his brides hovering near just in case as he let her out of the thrall. He wanted her completely there when he turned her, with the ability to fight and the knowledge that she couldn't. To remember every second vividly. He smiled wickedly as his eyes went from black to a bright blue and his fangs lengthened before he plunged them into her breast. She grunted in pain and squeezed her eyes shut. She flashed back to when Angel had fed on her, that time had been a thousand times better. At least.

If it was possible, she slumped more when he released her. The brides held her up as blood trickled from the wound on her breast down her body. Dracula gave them a nod and they eagerly bent forward to lick her clean as he bit into his own wrist then holding it over her mouth, forcing her to drink his blood. When he was satisfied, he laid her back to take her again and again the rest of the night.

Dark Destinies

~Chapter Two~

The next night just after sunset, Buffy opened her eyes feeling achy and sore. Pain all over her body from bruises and bites and cuts and scratches... etc that had multiplied from what she had started out with. She pushed herself up gingerly and went over to the armoire to see if there was anything she could put on so she didn't have to wander around nude. She found a white tunic-like dress and put it on, tying the gold belt tight before padding out of the room. She needed to find a way out of this place.

Kriszta was lounging in the hallway in a red version of the same dress, obviously sent there to keep an eye on the young bride. "Have a nice sleep, sister?" She smiled wickedly.

Buffy growled at her angrily, remembering all she had did to her the night before. Her face vamped out, eyes turning blue with a hint of violet and fangs extending. "Don't you dare call me your sister!" She rushed the other vampire, pressing her into the wall with a hand to her throat.

The bride hissed as she looked down into the angry vampiress' eyes, sensing what she had missed at first.  She shrieked wildly, "You! You are different! You retain your soul! Should have known that would happen with turning a slayer!" She hissed again and disappeared in a puff of smoke.

The slayer wondered idly if she could now do that, too.  That would have to wait, though, the exploring of everything that had changed now and how else she might be different from other vampires. For now, the plan was to find her way out of this house of whores.

*****

"And Xander's missing as well?" Riley asked, standing off to the side of the Magick Box with his arms crossed. He shook his head. "When was the last time you saw them?"

"At the Bronze. We went onto the dance floor and Xander came up to us to tell us they didn't feel well. He told us he was driving Buffy home before he went back to his own to crash for the night." Willow put her hand to her mouth. "You don't think he had something to do with this, do you? I mean, he was acting so strange yesterday."

"Apparently Dracula has been known to take Renfields... just like in the popular book we get the term from." He shrugged. "I'm sure he wouldn't have done it of his own free will."

"O-of course n-not," Tara shook her head. "He c-cares for her too much to j-just hand her over to some evil vampire guy."

Giles stood and removed his glasses to polish them. "So, we are of agreement that she was most likely taken by Dracula. We really need to find out where he is staying and go after her before it is too late. A turned slayer will be quite a trophy for the guy."

"For any vampire. A dead slayer or a turned slayer." Riley thought about that and he realized there was one contact he hadn't hit up the night before. "I'm going to go and try some more to find out where he is. I'll call you if I find anything, Rupert." He nodded and ducked out the door.

Giles looked at the girls after he left and sat back down in his chair. "I was not sure if I wanted to mention this in front of him, but we do need to prepare for the chance that we will not find her in time. Prepare for dealing with a turned slayer. We need to research to see if this has ever happened before."

"That's a very good point, Giles. You always make the best points," Willow smiled and nodded to the others, hoping they would agree. "We'll get right on that." She opened her laptop and looked down at it to avoid looking up at the former watcher.

*****

Riley opened the door to the crypt and walked right in, leaving the door wide open behind him. He looked around cautiously before walking deeper into the room. He turned and saw Spike in the corner jerking up a pair of black jeans.

"They ever teach you blokes t' knock in that army of yours?" He muttered darkly.

"You don't have anything I haven't seen before. Doubt you have anything shocking." He smirked and leaned against a column, crossing his arms.

"Got a lot more than you do, soldier boy." He grumbled and went over to a table to get a smoke. "You come over just t' have your jollies at hecklin' the vampire?"

"I need any information you have that could help me with a little problem. Might pay you real nicely depending on what you tell me."

"All right, I'll see what I can do." He lit up and took a long drag, looking Riley over. "What do you want t' know?"

"Seems Dracula's in town and he's after Buffy. Strike that, we pretty much figure he has Buffy. No one's seen her since last night. We don't know where he's staying or how to find him."

Spike nearly dropped the cigarette as he stopped to stare at Riley. "Bloody hell! He is?" How could he have missed something like that?! He shook his head and ground his teeth, throwing the cigarette away angrily. He had been so buggered by that damned slayer he had bloody well missed what was going on around him. Then the second part hit him. "He has her? How the hell did she let herself be taken by that overrated jackass?"

"We think that Xander... that he used Xander as his Renfield to ambush her... he's missing, too." Riley admitted quietly.

"Bloody hell!" He cursed again and stalked to the other side of the crypt, then started pacing back and forth. Then he stopped. Wait, he should be relieved that Dracula was doing the dirty work for him. Nah, no... he wasn't. He shook his head and told himself it was only because it wasn't right that he had been working his damnedest for years to get rid of the annoying bint and didn't care for some jerk with a cape coming in to do it in only a couple days. He ground his teeth, no... no... he wouldn't have killed her... he's either keeping her there to break her or he turned her immediately.

He turned back to Riley. "I can sniff him out. You an' Rupe can follow me, an' we'll get her out of there. Don' really care if we save Xander if he really is the one t' hand her over..."

"We'll handle that."

Spike shrugged. "Fine. He's only gonna find somethin' else t' louse up..."

"C'mon. I'll call Rupert." He didn't want to admit to agreeing with the vampire, but he still figured the others would want to see the guy again. He figured if they killed Dracula then Xander would be back to normal... as normal as usual... but if he had caused Buffy's death then it was going to be pretty hard for Riley to forgive him.

*****

Spike paused just before lifting the knocker and looked back at the other two. "Now, I'm gonna go meet with the EuroPoof under the pretense of gettin' back the money he owes me. The bloody mooch... Anyways, you two will slip away and go lookin' for Buffy.... an' Harris..." He sighed and ran his hand over his hair. "Jus' get Buffy out of there an' I'll keep Drac distracted."

"Got it. How will you know when we've got her to safety?" Riley asked in a hushed tone.

"Probably one of his brides will eventually come screechin' int' the room t' tell him that either she's gone or they found two guys sneakin' 'bout the castle." He smirked and turned back to bang the knocker loudly.

Anichka came to the door and looked up at Spike, a wide smile spreading over her face. "William... we were wondering when you would finally pay us a visit. I couldn't wait to see you again," she smiled and ran her fingers along the plunging neckline of her thin blue dress. "And you brought friends."

"Nice t' see ya, pet," he smiled and leaned in close. "Came t' welcome you guys t' the neighborhood an' got some business t' see t' with the big guy."

"Well come on in. He's in the main hall with the other brides. We just got finished having dinner." She moved back and let them in. She eyed Riley hungrily as he passed her.

Spike followed Anichka to the main hall and paused before following her in. He looked back at the other two men and motioned them down the hall, "Toddle off an' get t' lookin' for her. I'll cover for you." He went into the room without looking back.

Dracula was sitting at the end of a long table with Maryska in his lap. His hand was up under her green gown as she kissed his neck. His eyes went to Spike as he entered and lit up. "Ah, William, you have finally graced us with your presence."

"Well, had t' come see 'bout the debt you owe me." He smirked and sat down near him. Anichka immediately appeared with a bottle of wine and a glass. Spike grabbed the bottle and took a long drink from it. He had already been drinking before Riley found him, drinking ever since the slayer pushed him too far. "Figured I might could hang 'bout an' give you a chance t' earn some of it back."

Anichka sat herself on the side of Spike's chair and Dracula smiled widely. "Sure thing, I am up for a game or two with an old friend." He waved a hand and Kriszta came in with a deck of cards and some poker chips. He started setting up the chips and dealing cards to them both as she left again. "I'm sure part of my debt could be wiped away, though, if I let you have some fun with my brides."

"Perhaps," he looked up at Anichka and ran a hand over her with a smirk. "Had them before... but did they get better over time like this wine?" He tilted the bottle at Dracula before taking another long pull at it. "Because that would make the difference on how much of your debt they wiped off."

"I think they are better than ever, but then I am a bit partial." He drained his glass of wine and held it out to Maryska to refill it. Then he waved her away and she left after Kriszta. Anichka gave Spike a kiss and then left as well. "They will be right back after they take care of a little business."

Spike watched them go, wondering if that business pertained to taking care of two trespassers. Hey, like he cared if they offed the two gits... Two less HE had to off. He chuckled and drank more of the wine. He blinked and tried to focus on his cards through the haze of the alcohol, then glanced at Dracula. He smirked. So he wasn't the only one who had been drinking a bit much today...

They kept playing and drinking, getting even more tipsy. Conversation turned to the old days and they laughed loudly at the things they remembered. Spike started to totally forget why he was even there in the first place.

That was, until a hand started to travel up his leg. He didn't look down, just tossed a couple chip into the pot. Finally, at least one of the lovely bints was back. Did that mean they were done with Rupert and Riley? He smirked and studied his cards, letting the hands travel further up his thighs. So, Dracula was starting to wipe away the debt right away... was getting worried cause Spike continued to win hands and the debt was adding up. Or simply hoping to distract him so he could win some.

The hands caressed his groin before beginning to undo his pants. He groaned as a hot, moist mouth descended on his cock. Ohhh, that was good. He purred and nearly dropped his cards as the jolts of heat traveled up his body. His hand went down to stroke her cheek before burying in her hair.

"I see you are enjoying Elizabetta's talents," Dracula smirked as he laid down his cards. "She learns so quickly, though the thrall helps."

Spike frowned at the semi-familiar name, but not the name of one of the three brides that were just in there. His sex and alcohol befuddled brain was trying to put two and two together, but it was sooo hard to think with that mouth and tongue... and then her fingers started with the... He lifted his hips with a moan. He finally just looked down, down into the soft green eyes set in the pale upturned face that was watching him.

"Bloody fuckin' hell!"

He jerked back as he came, his cock coming out of Buffy's mouth so that it went all over her face. She didn't move though, even as he fell backwards in his chair as it tipped over. He scrambled away, quickly tucking himself back in his pants while glancing back at her. She was still looking at him vacantly with his spending in her face and hair, the usual spark gone out of her eyes. He swallowed and crawled back towards her.

"Pet?" He reached out to touch her cheek. Sure, he may have dreamt many time of her doing something like that to him, and woah had it been so much better than he had ever imagined... but not like this. She was infuriating... but... He shook his head and started to stand up to glare at Dracula.

"I see you know her. She's quite a prize isn't my little Elizabetta." The other vampire called to his bride and she came out from under the table, going to his side. "A turned slayer. It's no two dead slayers, but its still quite a trophy."

Turned? He looked at her closely and cursed mentally before lifting his gaze. "Yeah, it is." His fingers twitched for a cigarette as he shifted on his feet. "Look, I'm willin' t' overlook all that debt from before and t'night's if ya let me have her. Been owin' her some punishment for awhile now, bloody chip in m'head has made it a bit difficult lately. But, she's not human now, is she... an' I can' have a go at demons all I want."

"I am sorry, William, but I am not quite ready to give this one up. Name anything else, though, maybe one of the other three."

"I want THAT one. She's mine, been mine before you came here an' stole her from under m'nose." He growled lowly and stepped closer.

"If you continue to insist on being difficult, I may have to ask you to leave. I have been very generous considering you led two of her friends into my home to snoop around. My brides are taking care of them at the moment, though."

Spike snarled angrily and vamped out before lunging at Dracula. They both tumbled over the table, rolling around while they traded drunken punches and clawing. Buffy was knocked to the side when Spike jumped on her master. She watched blankly as they fought. Not moving to help or stop them, just watching. They rolled again and fell off the table, out of her view.

She hugged herself and sat back against the wall. She swallowed and started rocking, what just happened... had been happening since Dracula came to town... it all kept replaying in her head. She didn't even notice when Spike popped up from the other side of the table with a triumphant look. He glanced towards her and saw her bury her face in her knees, hands linked behind her neck. She looked for forlorn. The thrall was obviously gone now that Dracula was dust.

He went to her side. He needed to get her out of there now, before the brides came running. They surely had felt the death of their master. His hands went to her upper arms and pulled her up hurriedly.

"We gotta get out of here before the whore come a runnin'," he told her and tried to pull her along.

"Spike... no..." She looked at him with alarm and fear, trying to tug away from him frantically.

"Buffy!" He shook her hard and then looked into her eyes. "I came t' save you. I have t' get you out of here now t' do that, though. Stop fightin' me an' come along."

She blinked when he used her name. He almost never used her name. Her lips trembled; she still couldn't believe he would save her after how she treated him... especially after what she said to him at the Bronze. She kept dragging her feet as he led her towards the door.

He gave a growl of frustration and simply tossed her over his shoulder, stomping out into the hall and hurrying out the door. He didn't pay a thought to the three men inside. Xander was a wanker who had sold out his best friend to become Dracula's butt monkey and the other two he wouldn't shed a tear over losing either. Especially Riley... he was a part of the scheme to put a bloody chip in his head! And came to poke fun at him over it every chance he could get. Captain Cardboard deserved a vampire taking a good ripping into him.

Once he got back to his crypt, he headed down to the lower level and lowered her onto the bed. She had passed out, most likely from the stress of the last few days and that of losing her Sire. His jaw worked as he thought about that, two sides of his brain still warring over what to do about this. One side wanting to take advantage of this to take some payback on the infuriating little thing and the other side wanting to take pity on her, take care of her.

He dropped onto the bed beside her and bit into his wrist roughly, then thrust it in front of his face. He buried his hand in her hair to press her mouth to the wound, giving her a fair amount of blood to transfer Sireship to him. Would make her heal better and feel better sooner. Then maybe he could punish her... He glanced away and took his wrist back.

He went to get a wet cloth and came back to finally wash his seed from her face, then stripped away the dress. He carried her over to an old tub so he could wash her hair and bathe her. He washed her with gentle hands then wrapped her in one of his shirts before carrying her back to the bed.

She would probably be very disoriented when she came to later... completely free of the thrall... Probably thinking the worst of his intentions... well, part of his brain said, maybe she should be worried... He smirked slightly and pulled out the chains to bind her wrists. For his own protection when she woke as well as to keep her subdued until he could figure out what to do with her. Couldn't just send her back to the Scoobies. Who knows what they would do... might stake her outright... especially Soldier Boy...

He glanced at her, jaw working then finally went back to cover her in a couple more blankets and tuck her in snuggly. He cursed himself for going soft and went up to the upper level to take the couch since she wouldn't take likely to waking up with him snuggled close. He had enough blood to last a few days for them, could get more later. He would see how things went down before deciding where to go from there. If he would have to take her and leave the crypt, cause surely those friends of hers might come there looking eventually.

He ran a hand through his hair and flopped onto the couch. Needed rest first to sleep off the alcohol. Get calmed back down after that whole ordeal. Then maybe he could think more clearly about what to do about all of this. About the slayer turned vampire down in the lower levels chained to his bed.

AN: Okay, got a couple banners. Don't laugh at them >.< And, got an idea for the whole key thing... probably been used before but I don't like Dawn and the challenge said no Dawn (no skin off my back, obviously, lol) and was planning on this for my RPG, which is where I am getting some of my stuff from. Using some of the same things, such as some parts from the opening post/ficlet and my ideas for how being a slayer affected her change... etc.

~Chapter Three~

Riley arched his back as Anichka gyrated on top of him. He had told Rupert he could take care of the brides while he went to go find Xander. Oh yes, he was taking care of them. Keeping them real busy. He pulled Maryska close and fondled her breasts and licking his lips. He arched his back to angle up into the redhead better. He sex befuddled brain idly wondered, wasn't there three brides in the Dracula legend? Maryska bit down into his shoulder and the last of his rational thoughts fled as he moaned loudly.

Elsewhere, Giles poked his head into room after room. Then he found stairs going down and figured like most castles, downstairs would be the dungeons. There was a good chance Xander would be down there, if not Buffy, too. He crept down there and squinted into the shadows. He made out a figure to the side against the wall and headed closer. When he could finally make it out, he gasped, quickly removing his glasses to polish them all flustered.

"Oh good lord, Xander?" He replaced his glasses and blinked at the young man.

Xander was shackled with his arms above his head and totally nude. There were bite marks all over his body and bruises here and there. His head hung forward limply, totally unconscious after the exhausting punishment he endured. The same could not be said for his cock which jutted out, still hard, painfully hard. There were rubber bands wound tightly around the base, cutting into him. Dracula had his fun, but did not allow Xander's release.

Giles looked up at the shackles and then around to see if the keys were nearby.

"Looking for this?" Kriszta stepped out of the shadows, pulling the key out from her cleavage. She smiled at Giles with blazing blue eyes and flashing fang. She glanced at Xander, "The master had so much fun with this one. Not as much fun as we had with our new sister, Elizabetta, but he still had fun. I am just a bit upset he didn't let us join in, I didn't get to taste this one." She pouted.

"New sister?" He gulped and thought of that name. "Elizabeth? Oh bloody hell..." His mind raced as he processed that information. Dracula had turned Buffy. He hadn't finished much research on turned slayers before Riley had called me, though he knew that turned slayers were different than turned humans. His theories so far were that it was because of the differences in physical make-up as well as the Powers That Be rewarding her for her service as well as hoping that as a vampire they would continue to do their slaying.

"You are a friend of the little slayer girl?" She smiled widely. "Just like this one was before the promise of power and pleasure..." She walked over to the unconscious Xander and stroked his hard cock idly.

"No doubt the thrall helped the betrayal along a lot." His jaw worked as he watched, then looking around unable to keep his eyes on her stroking hand.

"Oh, I do not know if he was under any thrall," she batted her doe eyes at him with a smile. "He sure seemed to be himself when he was moaning under my master's touch." She squeezed slightly and Xander moaned as if on cue, his hips jutting forward slightly into her hand.

"Yes, I make a habit of taking the word of the soulless undead." He scoffed at her.

"Then what about a souled undead... Elizabetta was here watching. Watching this one get his reward for bringing her to us." Her lips tightened.

She glanced over as her other two sisters came into the room. Maryska was licking the last drops of blood from her lips as she advanced on Giles. Their eyes all flared blue as they circled their prey. Giles removed his glasses and polished them nervously. Kriszta darted forward to kiss him and his glasses fell to skitter away while the other two joined in on trying to undress the sputtering British man.

"Bloody hell," he kept muttering as they tore off his shirt and started kissing at every inch of exposed skin they could get to.

Suddenly, all three froze and glanced towards the door as one. Giles had the absurd image of three prairie dogs and wondered where that came from. He blinked as all three rushed from the room with a cry, forgetting him and Xander. He heard something drop and couldn't see what it was. He first went to track down his glasses. Once they were on, he glanced around and saw that Kriszta had dropped the key in her rush to leave. He wondered what had happened, but didn't want to look a gift horse in the mouth. He glanced down and grimaced at the lipstick smears everywhere, they was surely even more on his neck and face where he couldn't see them.

He grabbed the key and went to release Xander from the chains. Xander groaned and leaned into him as Giles dragged him towards the door. The brides had sounded distraught at something and perhaps ran off to help Dracula. Had Spike went ahead and attacked him? Hopefully, the younger vampire could follow through then so they did not go from an indifferent Dracula only intent on getting a slayer for himself to a very pissed off master vampire intent on revenge.

He started down the hall with Xander and wondered where Riley had gotten off to. He kept poking his head in doors as he went along and finally poked his head into a room where there was a figure laying on the floor in the corner. He left Xander sitting near the door and went over to kneel next to Riley, checking him for vital signs. There were none. Riley was covered in bite marks, most not fresh. Giles removed his glasses and rubbed the bridge of his nose with a groan; he knew the bloody git would end up like this if he didn't get over his addiction. He had only hoped that it didn't hurt Buffy. He shook his head. Things were way more complicated and Riley hadn't been the one to hurt Buffy, but he would straighten out what had happened to Xander.

He left Riley there and went back to the unconscious man by the door, lifting him again then heading out into the hall again. He headed for the door and shoved Xander into the back seat of his car then sped off back towards his apartment. The others were called on the way and told about the events. He hoped Spike had found Buffy, he really did.

*****

The next night, Buffy groaned and stretched, which is when she noticed she was shackled. She tugged at them and then started to struggle in earnest, completely alarmed and yet to totally remember everything from the night before. Was this another of Dracula's perverse tricks? Then she stilled and tried to remember what had happened as flashes came back to her. He had made her watch as he "rewarded" Xander for bringing her to him, taken pleasure in letting her know that Xander had kidnapped her from him, her best friend. Then there had been a visitor and they had left Xander so that Dracula could greet his guest.

She shook her head and started tugging at the chains again, not wanting to confront the memories.

"You won' be able t' break them... had them made special t' hold up against demons an' vamps... an' they work nicely against slayers as well," came a voice from above before Spike descended into the lower levels. "Sorry, pet, couldn' have you attackin' me the moment you woke."

Her eyes widened as she looked up at him and realized where she was, it just hadn't clicked until then. She had been too distressed... She swallowed as next his face sparked another round of flashbacks. He had been the guest to Dracula's castle... she had been on the floor next to his chair like a lapdog until he sent her under the table to Spike's chair. She remembered... oh gawd, she remembered... and then his face when he realized who had been under the table.

That confused her.

She would have expected the smug, triumphant smirk as he saw what she had become. But, there had been shock and worry... concern even. Maybe her mind was playing tricks on her. She remembered the tender touch to her cheek, though. She shook her head as her brows furrowed. He had fought for her and killed Dracula when he couldn't get the other vampire to hand her over. She was just so confused now.

He sighed and moved closer at the woeful look on her face. Sitting on the side of the bed, he touched her cheek and murmured to her comfortingly, "Shush now, he can' hurt you now, luv. I staked the big ponce an' killed him. Won' touch you ever again."

"Why?" She croaked up at him. "Why would you help me?"

"Wasn' right what he did t' you... turnin' you int' one of his whores..." He looked away. "You're a vampire now an' I jus' killed your sire. You need a new one an' I'm prob'ly the best one for the job. Wouldn' trust Peaches t' take care of you right." He rolled his eyes. "Can' jus' leave a fledge on its own, 'specially one where we don' know how bein' a slayer is gonna effect you. Heard slayer vamps are diff'rent."

"The one bride... Kriszta... said I still had my soul..." she swallowed. "It scared her."

He nodded and thought about that. "And you got the powers of the Dracula lineage instead of us Aurelian vamps..."

"I didn't know there was a difference until the other night... noticed he never got your game face..." She sighed. "I feel so stupid now... and hurt that Xander would just hand me over so he could boink a vampire... a male vampire..." She stuck out her tongue and made a face. "Those images are permanently burned into my skull..."

"It was the thrall, know he wouldn' do that t' you otherwise." He didn't know why he was defending the whelp, but if it made her feel better. When did he become such a sodding nancy boy? "Well, there might be other things diff'rent about you. We'll jus' have t' find out those things as we go along."

"Giles would do research... think we should call Giles? Does he even know what happened?"

"He an' Riley came with me t' get you. I was s'posed t' distract Drac while THEY found you... but lucky me, I found you first. Sure they got out fine, prob'ly found Xander instead." He nodded. "Not sure if its safe for you t' go see 'em... Might stake you or somethin'..." He rubbed the back of his neck and looked her over, he couldn't let her go yet.

"They wouldn't if they knew I kept my soul... I'm sure of it. But, I do know I probably should find my own place... Going back to school is definitely out of the question now and I can't stay with my mom like this. Already, I attracted too much bad stuff... now probably going to attract more once word gets out that I'm a vampire."

He almost gave a shout of joy, but remained nonchalant outwardly. "Well, you should stay with me... only natural with me bein' your new sire an' all." He lifted his wrist and bit into it, "Which reminds me... gotta do the whole blood thing t' make me your official sire." He shoved his wrist in front of her face.

She wrinkled her nose at it and glanced at him.

"Jus' do it..."

She rolled her eyes and started drinking, eventually latching her mouth to his skin hungrily. He chuckled and stroked her hair until he decided she had had enough, withdrawing his arm. Maybe it wasn't a good idea, but he pulled out the key to the shackles and freed her. She didn't look to be ready to attack him or anything. Also, the anger from her treatment had gone out of him when he had seen what Dracula had caused. He had definitely gone soft and it galled him to no end.

She sat up and rubbed at her wrists. Looking down, she saw she was in one of his shirts and her emerald eyes shot to him. "You undressed me?"

"Pet... you were covered in my leavin's... an' your poor body was dirty with his abuse... Jus' figured you wouldn' want that on you any longer." He shrugged and glanced away. "You never said anythin' about what I suggested... you stayin' with me an' all."

She sighed and looked down at her hands for a moment, letting her mind process both things before she responded. Now was not the time to just go off half-cocked. "As to the first part... I guess I'll thank you... for taking care of me. Sure didn't deserve it as I went all Bitchfest 2000 on you. Surprised you didn't try and take advantage of it all to do something bad. Take revenge."

"Wanted t'... just couldn' bring myself t' do anythin'..." He rolled his eyes at himself and stood, pacing away. "You gonna let me take care of you or not... wanna know before I go gettin my hopes up..."

"You mean the staying with you offer," she wrinkled her nose and looked around, almost considering it. "As appealing as a crypt sounds..."

He rolled his eyes and cut her off, "Not here, you dense bint! I'll get us a proper place... an apartment downtown or somethin' like that. Got money stashed away somewhere that I never care t' use, but this is as good a reason as any t' finally go get it."

"What, you got hidden riches somewhere?" She smirked and arched a brow, finding the whole idea absurd.

"Actually, yeah... old family money back in England... that's why I don' care t' touch it. I'll get it wired over here, though. Haven' use it in so long... prob'ly has loads of interest on it by now. Could take care of you right proper."

She eyed him, thinking the Twilight Zone just took over again. "So what... I'm like your kept woman then?"

He snorted. "Havin' a mistress usually includes the privilege of touchin' her." Another shake of his head, "Jus' want t' give you a place t' live an' make sure you're taken care of all proper like, with nothin' t' worry 'bout. I'm your sire... an' should take care of you the best I can. Can' jus' let a fledge, 'specially a turned slayer, like you toddle 'round on your own."

This was still sounding a bit off center to her... but it was the best offer she had gotten so far for where to go now. The only offer, but hey. She wrinkled her nose as she actually started to consider the offer. It might be tolerable if she set up some ground rules and made sure her friends didn't totally flip out at it. They were so going to want to lock her up in the nut house. Maybe she would just lie to them, say she got her own place... didn't need to know her roomie would be the bleached menace in front of her.

"We can try for a bit, I guess. But I am laying down ground rules. Serious ground rules," she pointed a finger at him and gave him her best Stern Buffy face. "And I mean it. If they aren't followed completely, I'll leave... and actually, breaking some of them will probably get you staked on the spot."

"Wouldn' expect any less, luv," he smirked and motioned for her to get up. "Now lets toddle off t' your house so you can get some of your things an' let Mum know you're safe so she'll stop worryin'."

"Ohhhh, my mom..." she groaned as she got up, looking around for something else to pull on. She didn't particularly want to put that whore dress back on, though. Her eyes went back to Spike worriedly. "What is she going to think... of me?"

"Here, pet," he shrugged out of his duster and set it around her shoulders. "An' you know she'll love you as much as ever. Your mum is a wonderful woman an' wouldn' turn her back on you for somethin' so slight as this. Still her daughter an' still got your soul. Prob'ly still take you in even if you didn' have one... doesn' seem t' mind I don' got one." He shrugged.

"Yeah, never could figure out how she put up with you," she rolled her eyes and slipped her arms into the jacket. "Thanks." Her tongue darted out to lick her lips. "I'll fill you in on my rules on the way there then." She smiled faintly and followed him up the ladder to the upper level to leave.

They arrived at the familiar house on Revello Drive and stood looking up at it a moment before approaching the front door. Spike opened the door and started in, with Buffy moving to follow him. Except, she hit the invisible barrier and fell backwards. She looked up shocked and rubbed at her sore nose.

"Guess I should've figured as much... just so not used to that bit," she chewed her bottom lip. "This so going to take some getting used to."

Joyce came out of the kitchen to see who was at the front door and looked down at her. "Buffy! I've been so worried about you!" Then she paused, looking between them, "What's wrong?"

"She's got t' be invited in, mum." Spike told her and motioned to the blonde sitting on her butt on the porch.

"Invited... like a..." her hand flew to her mouth. "Oh baby..." She went to kneel beside her daughter and hug her tight. "I'm so sorry. Are you okay? Come inside and have some cocoa. You can tell me all about it and have a good cry if you need it."

Spike chuckled and shook his head. "Might want t' let her up so she can walk. We came t' get her things so she can come along with me... gonna see that she's taken care of. Needs another vampire about t' show her the ropes and watch out for her. Figure I'm the best t' fill that job so you don' have t' worry, mum." He smiled at Joyce.

"You better take care of her," she lifted a brow and gave her own stern face, so close to Buffy's. "Or I'll come after you with that axe again."

"Expect as much." He followed them into the kitchen and hopped onto the counter to watch them as Buffy gave her mom a very edited version of what had happened to her. As he looked at Joyce, he finally figured why he had went soft and decided to take care of the slayer as his own. Besides the bint looking so pathetic that he didn't have the heart to do anything but comfort her, he also couldn't disappoint Joyce. Not after all she's done to take care and comfort him as well. What was it with Summers women and having him wrapped around their little fingers?

*****

They were both upstairs later packing and Buffy had found some jeans to pull on. Spike leaned in the doorway and watched her quietly as she moved about. He had offered to help, but she had muttered something about him pawing her personal things. He had just chuckled and backed off. He frowned as he heard a strange noise downstairs, glancing over his shoulder briefly.

"Hey, I'm ready to go," Buffy approached him with her suitcase in hand. "What is it?"

"Not sure... thought I heard somethin' downstairs..." He grabbed her suitcase and turned to head down the stairs, pausing at the bottom again. "We're headin' out, Mum." He called out tentatively, then when there was no response he set the case down and headed for the kitchen. "Mum?"

He stopped in the doorway and Buffy looked around him. She gasped and hurried around him to the crumpled form of her mother on the kitchen floor. "Oh my god, oh my god! Mommy!" She started screaming frantically and touched her mom's neck. There was a faint pulse, but she didn't feel much relief. She looked up at Spike with lost, wide eyes.

"Callin' an ambulance," he nodded and grabbed the phone so he could dial the paramedics. He moved around the corner to talk to them. After a moment, he hung up the phone and went to kneel beside her. "Gonna be here in jus' a few minutes, pet. Jus' try an' calm down a bit before you pass out yourself." He pulled her into his lap. "It'll be all right."

She tucked her head under his chin and let herself take comfort from him. Her eyes remained on Joyce, though, as she waited for help to come. Her teeth worried her bottom lip as she wondered what had happened? Stress... fatigue? Her mom wasn't sick... just couldn't be that. Her mind refused to accept that possibility.

*****

Buffy sat in the chair in the waiting room with her legs drawn up, balancing a cup of coffee Spike had brought her on her knees with her pale hand. She was staring at it morosely as she waited for the doctor to come out to tell her any news on what was wrong with her mom. Spike was beside her, sitting there stiffly. Unsure of what to do. He kept casting furtive glances towards the slayer, a bit worried at her silence.

Finally, the doctor approached them and Spike jumped up quickly. As eager for word on Joyce as her daughter. The doctor cleared his throat and looked between them. "Seems I have a bit of bad news. We obviously didn't get all of it during the surgery and it has come back, bigger than last time. We can try chemo, but it doesn't look good."

"The... the surgery? Didn't get what... what came back?" Her green eyes blinked rapidly, utterly confused. She slowly stood beside Spike and leaned into him for support without knowing what she was doing.

"She has had brain cancer for some time now. A few months ago we performed surgery on it to remove it and thought we got all of it, but as I said, we obviously didn't. We are going to do a scan, because often it can spread to other organs. As far along as she is, it is likely it probably has here."

Buffy frowned and looked up at Spike shocked. He looked just as shocked, squeezing her hand almost painfully. "Can we see her yet?" He asked finally.

"She's just coming around," the doctor nodded and turned to lead them towards her room. "Not for too long, though, she needs her rest. We will need to keep her a few days to do tests and keep her under observation."

Joyce pushed herself to sit up a bit straighter as she saw them walk in and offered Buffy a reassuring smile. "Hey there, honey. I'm feeling better already, I'm so sorry to have scared you like that."

"Why didn't you tell me?" Buffy stood there, staying at a distance and feeling a bit betrayed. Over the last few days it had just seemed to be one bad thing after another... she had thought she had finally caught a break... but no... "How could you keep something like this from me? Brain cancer? He says its pretty bad... were you going to tell me some time before you... you..." She turned to the thing closest to her, which happened to be Spike. She buried her face into his shoulder and started crying again.

"Buffy..." Joyce shook her head and wanted to hold her baby, make everything okay. "It was while you were off at college. I didn't want to worry you, honey. I got the surgery and hoped that would be the end of it."

"I am sick of people doing that to me..." Buffy grumbled and wiped her nose on Spike's jacket, earning her an exasperated look. She rolled her eyes back up at him. "Sure you've gotten worse on it, sheesh."

"Prob'ly," he sighed and went to get a paper towel.

Buffy moved over closer to Joyce. "It's all my fault... the stress of me coming home like this... probably what made you pass out..."

"Which is a good thing because now we know the tumor came back," she smiled softly and took Buffy's hand, patting it gently. "Relax, it'll be fine. If something happens to me, I know you will be taken care of, Spike promised me." She chuckled.

"That is so not comforting..." her tongue came out and she made a face. "You need to work on the pep talks." She scuffed her shoe. "I just wish you had told me sooner. Wouldn't have stayed away so much if I knew my days with you were numbered."

"I was sort of hoping they weren't, though, honey," Joyce chuckled and squeezed her hand. "I knew you had more important things to deal with, anyways. As for now, I will keep fighting, I haven't given up just yet, honey. But for now, we both could use some rest. Big hectic night... nights, actually."

"I'll come back and visit again tomorrow... and the day after that... and for however long you are here." She nodded eagerly.

"No, Buffy, I appreciate it, but no. I know you hate hospitals as much as I do, more even. You also have things to deal with and I'm a big girl, I can take care of this. I'll call you if I need anything and the hospital has everyone's numbers, so surely one of them will get hold of you if anything happens." She patted Buffy's hand and looked around her as Spike came back in. "Take my daughter to get some rest, Spike. Don't let her haunt the hospital thinking it will help any and make sure she eats well."

"You do realize that means blood, mom, right? You just told him to gorge me on blood..." She blinked at Joyce as if she had lost it.

"Yes, I do. You're a vampire now and you need to feed to stay well. You can't very well starve yourself because you think its icky."

"Geez, I know that, mom..." She blushed faintly. Gawd, she was getting vampire tips from her mother... "Fine, I'll go. Just promise me you'll call when you get out to tell me what's what."

She hugged Joyce and turned back to head towards the door where Spike was waiting. He waved at Joyce and stepped back, keeping his jacket a safe distance from the snotty nosed slayer with bad manners. He followed her towards the door and glanced up.

"Guess we'll go back t' the house an' get your suitcase. I made some calls an' had Clem look for an apartment in town. He'll call me when he finds somethin'... told him a two room like ya said." His jaw started working as he walked with her towards Revello Drive. Bloody annoying bint and her million rules... he would just have to wear her down until she saw the error of her ways.

*****

Willow headed into Spike's crypt after no one answered her knock. Giles had come back with Xander the night before and she had gotten to work on making sure he wasn't still under a thrall. Xander was all thrall free, which reinforced their idea that Spike might have went ahead and killed Dracula. Xander was being fawned over by Anya while Giles, Tara, and her had continued to research turned slayers. Giles said one of the brides had told him that Buffy still had her soul for one. They hadn't found much, though. Probably most demons and vampires just simply killed the slayers they attacked so turning them was really rare. They would just have to see when they found Buffy. Giles will surely want to ask her a million questions.

They assumed that if Spike killed Dracula, it must have been because he had found Buffy and that he must have took her and run. They had waited for word from Spike or Buffy. They had gotten nothing.

So now, Willow was here to see for herself. She glanced around before heading to the ladder leading down to the lower level, poking her head down into the hole. There was still no sign of either of them. No sign of a struggle either. Though... there were shackles on the bed... She blinked and glanced around again. There was a dress on the floor. Unless Spike had a secret life they didn't know about... that seemed to point at a girl, probably Buffy, having been there.

So, she took this as a good sign and straightened, dusting her hands off before heading for the door again. They were obviously out. Maybe Spike was all showing Buffy how to be a vampire. She paused as she was about to leave when the thought struck her to leave a note. There wasn't a pen and paper around. She grinned and lifted a finger, the tip lighting before she began writing her note on the door. Buffy, We're worried and want to hear from you as soon as possible. ~Willow.

~Chapter Four~

AN: Finally, some Spuffy lovin'! Hehe ;)

Buffy walked into Spike's crypt again and dropped her bag down on the floor. She glanced at the message on the door and sighed, still not sure if she was ready to face her friends with the new her. She needed just one more night at least... one more night to deal with being a walking undead, deal with Spike being nice to her, and deal with her mom actually dying some day. No immortal mommy for her.

"Looks like Red was here," Spike commented as he followed her inside. "Hope that ain' permanent." He reached out to touch it and it disappeared. He nodded and closed the door behind him. "So, you gonna go t' see them?"

"Not tonight, if that's okay," she told him and went to curl up on the end of the couch. "Not feeling up to all that after all that just happened. Tomorrow maybe." She nodded.

"Perfectly understandable, pet. Doin' alot better than I prob'ly would in the same circumstances. Take as much time as ya want. I'm sure your friends'll understand an' I'll go give them word that you're alright. Can see if they got anywhere with research on what else you can expect bein' a turned slayer an' all."

"No!" She looked up at him quickly and then glanced away. "Stay... please, just stay."

He arched a brow, not thinking he would have ever heard her say that to him. He didn't look a gift horse in the mouth, though, and went over to sit next to her on the couch. "No problem, luv. I'm your willin' slave for as long as you need me." He smiled at her.

She shifted and laid her head on his shoulder, needing some sort of comfort. His arm went around her and squeezed her gently, then lowered his lips to brush a soft kiss across her forehead. The sign of affection surprised her. He had been acting strange towards her ever since he had saved her from Dracula. Heck, even that had been strange to her. She had understood when she thought he had taken her because he had wanted the pleasure of enslaving her himself, but that obviously hadn't been what had happened when he finally got her alone.

She blinked up at him and studied him for a moment. "Um, on second thought... why don't you go give Willow news that I'm okay like you were going to do. I'm going to go downstairs and get settled in." She smiled, hoping he didn't think she was rejecting his comfort. She just had an idea she wanted to put into action.

"Right then," he got up and headed for the door, feeling a bit put off. "An' see if they learned anythin' helpful 'bout your situation."

"Yeah, I suppose anything they found will be really helpful," she smiled and nodded, trying to keep reassuring him. As soon as he left, she got to her feet and dragged her bag down to the lower level.

Much later, Spike walked back into the crypt and glanced around. He didn't see Buffy and assumed she was downstairs like she had said. He went down the ladder, a bit eager to share the information he had learned from Willow. He paused at the bottom, though. There were candles everywhere and things were straightened up in an actual order. He glanced towards the bed and it was empty.

He could sense her in the room and finally started to look around, but hands grabbed his shoulders and spun him completely. Then they tugged him forward so that soft lips could capture his own, kissing him eagerly. Her tongue darted into his mouth aggressively and he started purring in ecstasy, hands going to her hips. That's when he noticed she was completely naked. He jerked back surprised and looked down at her.

"Gawd, Slayer... what are you tryin' t' do t' me?" He chuckled and let his gaze devour her, his erection swelling and pressing against his pants. "This better not be some sort of game... some punishment for somethin'..."

"No," she smiled and walked him backwards towards the bed, "It's more of the reward variety. Or at least, I hope boinking me isn't a punishment." She laughed and blushed.

"Buffy..." he started with a slight frown before she cut him off with another kiss.

"No... just hush, so I don't lose my nerve." She pushed him back onto the bed and crawled up to start undoing his pants. The corner of her mouth lifted when she saw him and she pulled his pants down. "Okay, so yeah, its not just me with the 'oh, my mommy's sick and I need comforting and you're there'... though, trust me, its there... but you saved me and have been oddly nice to me, even though I seriously didn't deserve it after the things I said to you the other night."

"Wasn' right what he was doin' t' you... took one look of that forlorn face an' my little black heart melted," he chuckled and pulled her up, rolling to put her under him. "Think I finally matured an' learned t' not hold a grudge over some words said in the heat of the moment. Was that time of the month maybe... or was already under Drac's thrall a bit when it happened an' that influenced your mood..." He shrugged. "I think I got a soft spot for Summers women."

She chuckled and rolled her eyes. "Still wasn't right of me to say that you... I mean, with all that you've done and taking care of me... proved you are so not beneath me." She claimed his mouth again and ran her hands up under his shirt, tracing his muscles before tearing the cloth to get him nude like her.

"Mmm, Buffy," he purred and ran his hands along her body. He ran his hands under her thighs and urged her to wrap them around his waist, rubbing himself against her once she complied. He chuckled and brushed his fingers through her damp curls, "So wet for me..." He slid his fingers into her and started pumping slowly, "so hot an' wet..."

Her hips lifted off the bed and she bit her lip, "Spike... please..."

"Don' worry, pet, Spike's got you," he chuckled and kissed her neck, his free hand sliding under her to lift her up against him. He slid his fingers out and stroked himself, coating himself in her juices. His hips moved forward to press just the head into her. "You really sure you want this... last chance t' back out."

She reached out and grasped his hips as her response. She jerked him forward, bringing him deep into her with a loud moan. "Oh gawd..." her fingers flexed and dug into his skin.

His eyes squeezed shut as he felt ready to fall to pieces already. After a moment, he nuzzled her neck and started moving his hips slowly. He nibbled on the marks on her throat with blunt teeth while his hand moved over her stomach, up to her breast. He cupped her breast and brushed his thumb around the hardened peak, eliciting more moans from her. His mouth descended on her other breast, drawing it into his mouth and making her arch her back.

His thrusts picked up and he kept his hand under her hips, levering her up towards him. He kissed and nibbled his way back up to her throat. She tilted her head back to bare it to him. One of her hands trailed through his hair and caught in the curls at the nape of his neck to bring him back up for another hungry kiss. Her other hand traveled over his back until it found his tight ass and squeezed, urging him on.

He groaned into her mouth and then kissed along her jaw to her neck. "Not gonna last much longer you keep doin' that, luv."

"That would be the point," she rolled her eyes and chuckled. She nipped at his shoulder and squeezed again, enjoying the sight of his eyes rolling upwards.

Her mouth trailed wet kisses down his chest and she flicked her tongue over his nipple. His breath caught and he looked down at her, watching her with interest. If he knew being with her would this good... He chuckled and gasped, thought lost as she gave the other nipple the same treatment. His thrusts became quick and hard as he worked for his release and hers.

"Spike... I..." she looked up at him with heavy lidded eyes. "You want to... to bite me? Vampires and all... figure it would only be natural..." She chuckled huskily.

"Ohhh pet... of course I would if you're offerin'," he kissed her neck and licked at it slowly. "Is that what my little siren wants... t' be bitten by the big bad?"

She rolled her eyes at him. "Knock it off and get to it before I change my mind." She laughed.

"Slayer..." he growled softly and vamped.

His thrusts became rougher as he scraped his fangs along her neck. He nipped down along her shoulder and down to her breast, capturing it in his mouth again. Suckling hard. She gasped and writhed beneath him, crying out softly when he scraped his fangs over her nipple. He skimmed his hand down over her stomach to where they were joined, pinching her clit hard just as he sank his fangs into the soft skin of her breast. She screamed and arched her back, coming hard. She dug her nails into his back as tremors ran over her body. Her nicely trained slayer muscles milked him as he fed at her breast, finally lifting his head to groan as he spilled his seed deep inside her.

They laid there entangled and sweaty, gasping for unneeded breath in the afterglow of their joining. Spike lifted a hand to brush it over her cheek before kissing her slowly then rolling off her, pulling her with him to lay on his chest. He glanced down at her and a soft chuckle rumbled in his throat.

"What is that chuckle about?" She rested her chin on his chest and looked up at him.

"Jus' thinkin' t' m'self that if I had known... how good this would be... would've thrown up the white flag an' switched sides the moment I got here." He smirked and pulled her up for a deep kiss, hands sliding over her body.

"Dang, woulda made my life a whole lot easier... if *I* had known I would have went into battle against you nude." She smirked slightly and licked a drop of her blood from the corner of his mouth. She pushed herself up onto her elbows on his chest and lift a hand to her hair. "Think I want to give myself a little make-over to go with the whole new life..." She looked down at him and tilted her head. "What do you think about a bit shorter with some either black or red streaks?"

"You'd look gorgeous any way you wore it." He brushed a hand through said hair and stroked her cheek with his thumb. "For now, it might be best t' get some rest. It's been a long night for both of us."

"Yeah... sounds good... what with the going home and then the hospital... not to mention the trouble I went to cleaning up this pig sty while you were off to Willow's to talk to her..." She looked around the place, taking in her handiwork. "Too bad we're moving out."

"Could always stay if you want then," he teased.

"No thanks." She made a face.

"Speakin' of Willow," he began, "They have been doin' research on turned slayers like I figured they would. They knew about the soul thing an' are far from thinkin' of stakin' you." He smirked slightly. "Also, you might be less vulnerable t' things that normal vamps are... an' somethin' 'bout weird feedin' habits."

"I haven't fed from anyone but you so far," she lifted her eyebrows. "Guess we'll find out soon and not sure I wanna test what I'm vulnerable to and what not... doesn't sound like a big world of fun."

"No worries, pet; wouldn' let anyone turn my Childe int' a guinea pig." He hugged her close and kissed the top of her head. "Sleep now."

*****

The Scoobies were all gathered in the living room on Revello Drive and looking at Buffy intently. She squirmed at all the attention and crossed her arms, staying close to Spike. He had a possessive arm around her with his hand resting on her hip, holding her close and offering her comfort as he felt her uneasiness. Xander frowned at that, but after what he did he had no right to be looking down at anyone. He just leaned into Anya more and tried to ignore the displays of affection between the two former enemies.

Giles took off his glasses and polished them. "So, you say that you did in fact kill Dracula?"

"Yeah, got him right good so he won' be messin' with us anymore." Spike nodded. "Don' know 'bout the brides, though... prob'ly go find another master vamp t' take them in so they can follow him 'bout an' all that." He shrugged.

"And give him lots of orgasms," Anya nodded.

The others rolled their eyes and chose to ignore the comment. They looked back at Buffy and studied her for a few moments before Willow stood.

"So uh, yeah, you're all with the soul thing then?" She looked at Buffy closely.

"Yup... freaked out one of the brides, so safe to say I got it still." She scuffed her foot on the floor.

"And... Spike told us... the Dracula line is different... with the grr face and all that with the poofing and turning into bats and wolves." The witch raised a curious brow. "Can we see your grr face?" She looked at her friend hopefully.

"Um, I guess so... why not..." She shifted so that her eyes melted blue and her fangs dropped. "This is it." She shrugged. "Nothing special."

"Wow..." Tara smiled faintly.

"Nifty." Willow grinned.

"It's not as ugly as Spike's face." Anya nodded in agreement.

Buffy bit her lip to keep from laughing, but couldn't help herself from commenting dryly. "Yes, Spike's face is quite ugly."

The comment earned her a hard pinch in the side and she rolled her eyes up at him. Wimp, couldn't take a little teasing... The set up had been perfect; she couldn't just pass it up. She pinched him in the ass in retaliation where no one could see.

"Anyways, as for the rest... don't know anything else that's different. Don't care to see what I'm hurt by and not... and have only fed from Spike so far. As for the poofing and turning into animals, haven't tried yet. Guess I can, though." She shrugged and wrinkled her nose, glancing up at Spike. "Don't suppose you have pointers for that..."

"Sorry, luv..." He shrugged.

"Oky doky then..." She just figured closing her eyes and concentrating was a good place to start. It always seemed to be the answer to everything mystical like this. You always ask, how you do that... and someone is always going, concentrate. She wrinkled her nose as she concentrated on the bat thing. She shifted, but wasn't able to hold it very long. "It's probably because I'm a fledge and what not."

"Okay, now with the poofy... think you can do that already, too?" Willow's brows went up.

"Guess we'll see." She wrinkled her nose and concentrated again, just going for across the room.

The next second, she found herself on the front porch. She screamed in fright and suddenly arms were jerking her inside, holding her against a muscled chest protectively as he slammed the door shut. Concerned blue eyes ran over her body, checking her over as he held her out at arms length. His brows furrowed as he noted she only looked reddened like she had been in scalding water.

"What's that look for?" She tilted her head and looked down. "Wow, lucky me I'm not dust, huh..."

"I guess we figured out one of the things you're less vulnerable to," Tara said as she came over to take a look with the others.

"And I can poof...." Buffy commented lamely. "Okay, no more with the guinea pigging..." She frowned and went upstairs to get some aloe lotion on her skin.

*****

Buffy sat on Spike's bed frowning down at the mug of warmed blood he had given her to drink. She had tried twice to drink it, and both times she had to run to as she started to heave up the mouthful she had just swallowed. So now she was giving it a sour look. She handed it back to Spike and shook her head, crossing her arms.

"No, third time is definitely not going to be the charm so I'm not even trying." She pouted and turned her face away.

"Buffy... luv... you've got t' eat..." he sighed and downed the cooling blood himself when she still refused. He set down the mug and moved over in front of her, kneeling down to face her with a slight smirk. "Will just have t' feed from me again." He didn't look too sorry at the prospect.

She rolled her eyes with a chuckle. "Oh no, that's even worse," she joked and rested her hands on his shoulders.

She slid off the bed and into his lap, kissing him slowly as she did. His arms went around her and cradled her against him. He purred as her lips made their way to his neck, her tongue swirling over his pulse. She smiled as she felt him swelling against the front of his pants, pressing up into her. She trailed her hands through his curls and nipped lightly, then shifted to her game face. She bit down and drank hungrily, moaning at the delicious taste of her surrogate sire's blood.

"Ohhh, the things you do t' me, slayer..." he groaned and pressed himself more firmly into her.

"Can we put a hold on the dry humping until I'm gone, thank you?" A voice asked from behind them. It was female with a soft Irish lilt to it.

Buffy jerked back and Spike stood quickly, pushing her behind him in a protective gesture. A tall woman stood there with her arms crossed, long red curls that fell to her waist and bright green eyes. She was wearing a simple white dress that hung to her knees with bell sleeves and no shoes. She took a few tentative steps forward and help up her hands.

"I'm sorry for startling you. My name's Aislinn. I don't have much time to tell you the message I was sent with and I didn't want to stand there watching you start up again. You have much time to do that later." She smiled widely and chuckled in amusement at the blushing of Buffy's face while Spike's darkened with irritation.

"Fine, message from who?" He asked darkly.

"From the Powers That Be. They sent me to give you a heads up on something important you need to know right away. It's important since you wouldn't expect it on your own and you need to know now, instead of letting you figure out when its too late to take care of it and protect it."

"Take care of what?" Buffy frowned slightly, confused. The Powers wanted her to protect something? Surely they would do it better than her.

"A key. These monks have been protecting it for it has lots of power, power that could be used for evil. There is a hellgod who has been exiled here on Earth and would seek it out to use it to get home, no matter the destruction she caused by opening the gateway. The monks know she is coming for the key and were planning on sending it to you to keep safe in human form, but then you became a vampire and they were not sure how to proceed. Especially with your mother so sick. So we stepped in and gave them a new alternative."

"A key, some big source of power in human form?" She blinked as she tried to take it all in. "They wanted ME to protect it?"

"Yes, they knew if they put it in the form of something special to you, you would go as far as protecting it with your life. I believe they were considering a sister for you for awhile." She tilted her head and lifted a shoulder.

"Like I wouldn't notice I suddenly had a sister?" Buffy rolled her eyes.

"They would have worked their magic to alter your memories and the memories of everyone around you to integrate the new life. But, with the arrangements we made with them, that won't be needed. The only magic we needed to perform was that of helping the new life come about." Aislinn smiled and pressed her hands together.

"So, what is this key going to be now? Obviously a person since you still mentioned new life. What else would I protect with my life besides my best friends and my family? And if there is no integrating of fake memories needed, then it wouldn't be a random new friend because without memories I wouldn't be so connected."

Aislinn stepped towards Buffy, glancing up at Spike as she skirted around him to get at the petite slayer. "It's still family, but not a sister. A new life that requires no fake memories. All we had to do was make sure it would happen so that the key could be sent to you."

"Family... a new life..." she said slowly as it began to dawn on her.

"You're gonna knock her up?" Spike said with his unique style of eloquence.

Buffy rolled her eyes up at him.

"I believe YOU 'knocked her up', actually." Aislinn laughed.

"But she's a bloody vampire... she can' get pregnant. I can' get people pregnant either!"

"Like I said, that is the bit of magic we worked to help them. We made it so that with your joining she would get pregnant, regardless of her new condition. And this is exactly why you needed to be told right away. You obviously would not realize this on your own as you would not expect two vampires to conceive a child and wouldn't realize it until you had done harm to the child or let someone else do harm. You need to know so you can protect it when the hellgod comes, which will be soon, too soon to wait for you to realize it on your own. Also, the child is human and so you need to keep on eating real food besides the blood you drink. You wouldn't eat enough to nourish the child if you didn't know you had to, would you?" She smiled softly.

Buffy was looking down at her stomach with a frown. "I'm pregnant... with a key... that a hellgod is after..." Her bottom lip started to tremble and Spike gathered her close.

"Hush now, pet. It'll be okay. I'll take care of both of you right proper, don' have t' worry. Spike's got you." He murmured into her hair soothingly as he rubbed her back.

"We know you'll be a great mother to the child. We would not give you this gift if we did not know that." Aislinn told her softly, seeking to console her as well. "We will be watching over you as well, if you need anything."

"Is... is it a boy or girl?" Buffy sniffled and wiped her nose in Spike's shirt, earning her another exasperated look like with the jacket incident at the hospital. He made note to buy the girl a handkerchief or something.

"A beautiful baby girl," she smiled brightly at the slayer. "I have to go now, my message has been delivered and I'm being called back. One final tip, though... With Buffy's feeding on blood problem I just witnessed... all I can say is that you should take her patrolling later and the rest should take care of itself." She nodded and disappeared.

"I hate bloody cryptic remarks like that... could've just told us straight out how t' get you t' feed..." Spike grumbled as he looked back down at Buffy. "You okay, pet? Is it so bad t' be havin' my child?"

She sighed and bit her bottom lip. "I'm gonna get fat...."

The next night, Spike dragged Buffy through the cemetery to do some patrolling like Aislinn had told them to do. Buffy was dragging her feet and glancing around uneasily. Every time Spike looked away, she tried to duck and flee, so now he had a firm hold on her arm just to make sure she didn't try to make another run for it.

"But, they'll find out I've been turned and then word'll spread. All the demons and vamps and other baddies'll start coming out of the woodworks to take advantage of it to get rid of me. Don't you even care?" She looked up at him and tried to bat her eyes at him. She stuck out her lower lip and asked sweetly, "You're my Sire... aren't you s'posed to be protecting me from the bad people trying to hurt me?"

"It's also my job t' make sure you're well fed." He rolled his eyes at her and tried to ignore the lure of her beautiful upturned face with the adorable pout. "Now, pet, I don' mind lettin' ya feed off me all you want, but if worse comes t' worse an' somethin' were t' happen... you need t' be able t' take care of yourself. Wouldn' be doin my duty by you... jus' like a parent with their child... gotta teach them t' be self sufficient." He nodded solemnly.

She pouted for real and kicked at a rock. "Still don' see how patrolling's supposed to help any..."

"We'll jus' see. Give it a chance." He chuckled. "An' 'sides... not takin' you t' get your hair done an' do your shoppin' until you feed."

"Well we've been out here for awhile and so far we haven't seen a-"

She was cut off as a couple fledges came out from behind a crypt they passed and rushed them. She rolled her eyes at the irony and ducked as one lunged at her, bringing her elbow up into his gut then tossing him aside. He hit a tombstone and tumbled over it. She leaped over the stone with her stake and vamped out as she pinned the fledge to the ground. He struggled with her and she tried to stake him, accomplishing opening a big gash in his shoulder.

At the smell of the blood, her nose twitched and she stilled, pinning him to the ground by his upper arms roughly. The motion caused the gash to tear more and blood flowed even faster. Her eyes were transfixed by the sight of it pouring down his shoulder and onto her hand. She bent her head dazed and licked at her hand, then with a growl latched her mouth onto the gash in his shoulder. She drank deeply, making little nummy sounds unknowingly.

Spike staked the other fledge and then turned, brows furrowing at the sight of Buffy on top of the other fledge. Feeding. His lip curled in disgust. She was feeding from the fledge and obviously enjoying it. He watched with interest as it became obvious to him why Aislinn had tipped them off to taking her on patrol.

Buffy fed deeply to the point that the fledge beneath her turned to dust and she fell forward with a mouth full of vamp dust. She spat it out and wiped at her mouth, glancing up towards Spike. Her nose wrinkled as she came back to herself and thought about what she had just done.

"Turned slayers drink vamp blood," he stated the obvious softly as he helped her to her feet. "An' the human blood I tried t' give you made ya sick..."

"I guess it makes sense... sorta..." She brushed herself off and straightened her clothes before looking up at him again. "I mean, slayers protect humans and hunt vampires. It makes sense that the Powers would make it that we would continue our mission even being turned, not letting a little thing like death stop us. The whole being less vulnerable to certain things and the soul helps to that end as well, don't you think?"

He nodded slowly. "I guess... yeah, it does..." He played with an unlit cigarette, not really liking the idea that they could still use his Childe like a puppet. But, they had proved they could when they did the near impossible and made her pregnant. All this paled in comparison to that. Not that he wasn't secretly pleased at the idea of having a daughter, especially after giving up on that idea once he became a vampire. The idea that it was with Buffy... that was still a bit tricky... "Still hungry, luv, or you want t' get on out of here?"

"I'm good and I'm eager to go get on with my new vamp make-over," she nodded with a big smile and started bouncing towards the entrance to the cemetery. "Then we can go check out that place that your friend found for us. Still not sure about the trusting your friends thing... but hey... as long as the place is cozy... and not booby trapped..."

He laughed and followed after her. "Oy, not all my friends are baddies out t' destroy the world. Clem happens t' be quite a nice guy. You'll like him once ya meet him..."

"Maybe... but not holding my breath there..." she chuckled and he swatted at her backside. She looked at him, pretending that his light swat had hurt bad. "Watch it, mother of your child here!"

"Which reminds me... somewhere in all that, we gotta get you somethin' real t' eat for the lil poppet," his arm slid around her as they walked, hand stroking her stomach lightly. "Gonna think of her name soon or we jus' gonna keep callin' the child 'her' an' 'it'?"

"Lets name her Dru," she wrinkled her nose at him playfully then dodged away when he went to swat at her backside again, "Just kidding!" She smiled up at him and shrugged, "And anyways, we have time... no need to do it the day after we find out I'm pregnant. We have time to see if any names grow on us."

He nodded. "Of course, pet. There's other things we need t' think of, anyways. An' baby stuff t' buy..."

She made a face. "Lots of stuff to do and get straight for a baby..." She sighed and then frowned. "Like how to get it out without it hurting." She nodded and rubbed her stomach. "Oh oh... and morning sickness... vampire puke? Gawd, I don't wanna experience vampire puke..." She shook her head vehemently.

"I'm sure if you talk t' Red and Glinda they'll be able t' cook up some potion stuff t' help with the morning sickness and later the pain."

"Maybe... but til then... the whole getting my hair done and shopping will make me feel better." She gave him a small smile and nodded before heading into the beauty salon. She stood by the front desk and turned back to him to tease lightly, "Maybe they can do something about your hair..."

"I'll leave you here slayer..." he grumbled his threat and twirled a cigarette between his fingers. Gawd, he was going to miss lighting up... but even before they found out she was pregnant one of her many rules had been no lighting up near her. He had balked, but now with the baby he was more than okay with the rule for the sake of his little daughter.

"That's okay... then it'd be peaceful for a bit," she teased some more and waved when one of the ladies started to lead her to the back to begin. "Hey, Spike, what do you think of me getting you name tattooed on my butt?" She wiggled it at him before disappearing around the corner with a giggle.

He groaned. Bloody annoying bint would be the end of him... it was any wonder why he cared for her so much. He was becoming a big plonker over her... He sighed and flopped into one of the chairs in the waiting room, slouching low and huddling in his duster. It was only going to get worse, he knew. What with her being pregnant with his child and him vowing to take care of her. Oh, the softy he was going to become over his daughter! Probably let her get away with murder and have him wrapped around her little pinky. He continued to mutter to himself under his breath the whole time Buffy was in the back getting her hair done.

"Oh, Wiiiiilliaaaaam," came a flirtatious call from the back a good while later.

He glanced towards the direction of the call and quickly stood up as Buffy stepped into view. A goofy grin spread over his face as he saw her posing to show off her new hairstyle with a grin. It was cut just above her shoulders and a bit lighter with a few red streaks to it. It had been curled out in a bouncy way and just begged for his fingers to bury themselves in it.

"Do you like it or does that grin mean you think I look funny?" She stopped and tilted her head, looking up at him with brows lifted in question.

He walked over until she was pressed back against the wall and looked down at her for a moment before giving in to the urge to bury his hand in her hair, catching it to tilt her head back. He kissed her hard for a moment before releasing her. "Absolutely gorgeous."

*****

Spike stepped into the apartment first and turned on the lights before moving aside so Buffy could enter as well. He took the bags of clothes from her hand and set them down beside the door, then set the take-out bag down on the table. The apartment was fully furnished already with dark, semi-posh furniture. He took her hand, closing the door behind her before leading her deeper into the apartment.

"It's got three bedrooms an' a good sized bathroom. One bedroom for us, one for the wee poppet, an' the other can prob'ly be used for trainin' if you don' think its too small." He pulled her towards the double doors at the back of the living room. "Got a balcony an' out here's a hot tub that'd be nice for your sore muscles after trainin' or patrollin'. Prob'ly be nice as you get on with the pregnancy... though might be best not t' turn it too hot then."

She nodded and looked up at him with a small smile. "Looks really nice." She tilted her head and chuckled, "I apologize for teasing about your friend giving us questionable leads. He did good and you can send him my thanks." She walked around the apartment, sticking her head in each room briefly before meeting him back in the kitchen. She hopped onto the counter. "I give my final approval." She grinned. "And we can get Willow and Tara over here to do a cleansing... maybe put a nice protection spell on the place, especially the nursery..." She shrugged.

"Right then," he nodded with a small smile. He grabbed her bags and went to toss them into the bedroom closet. "We've got a home for us an' the poppet, so that's one major t'-do checked off our list." He came back and braced his arms on either side of her lap, leaning forward to kiss her. "Redecorate it any way you like, pet. Know you birds like t' do that... 'specially pregnant bints... nestin' or some such nonsense."

"Wow, you're such a suave talker..." she made a face up at him with a chuckle. "And anyways, looks just fine to me... though, decorating the nursery is gonna be so much fun." She smiled widely and bounced slightly. "We can use Disney princess stuff and make it all cute and adorable."

"Long as we tell NO ONE," he waved his hands in front of her. "Got a reputation as the Big Bad t' protect an' all..." He crossed his arms and pouted slightly.

She laughed. "Riiiight.... and the Big Bad is gonna be wrapped around the finger of a little blonde haired girl."

"You don' got me wrapped around your bloody finger!" He said indignantly and paced away, not going to admit that maybe she did a little. Not like he'd ever admit it to anyone.

"I meant the baby," she rolled her eyes and slid back off the counter. She walked over to him and went around to stand in front of him. "You think you're all big and bad and tough... but I know that the moment that she looks up at you with her big innocent eyes you're going to melt and go all mushy over her. Probably gonna spoil her rotten."

He looked away with a scowl. Bloody annoyin' bint... "Am not." Then he looked back at her with a frown. "Look, shut your gob, slayer, or we can go back t' livin' in my crypt an' the poppet can be raised like a sewer rat." He turned and stomped off towards the balcony to escape the knowing emerald gaze.

Buffy chuckled and shook her head as she turned to get out the burger he had bought her. He would be a big softy over the child and he knew it, but was in denial as far as she was concerned. Oh well, soon enough he'd be cooing over her rounded stomach he won't be able to deny it any more. She nodded to herself and sat down to munch on the burger.

*****

Buffy was glad for the excuse to escape the house full of fawning friends. Her mom was back from the hospital and the others had been there to throw a small welcome home party for her. While they had everyone together, Buffy had dropped the news about her being pregnant. To say they were shocked about a pregnant vampire was an understatement. Giles repeatedly made mention of lots of research to be done about this thing, even after Buffy told him it had been the Powers That Be and they had told her what she needed to know for the most part. If research helped him deal with it, though... Oh, then had been the double shock of it being Spike's kid. Xander had stomped out of the room angrily and Willow had went to talk to him with the hopes of calming him down before he did something rash. But, after that had been the fawning of the soon to be grandmother. That had seemed to the small ice breaker for the others to actually start cooing over the thought of the first Scoobie baby. She had breathed a big sigh of relief as they started to talk about baby showers and such.

She touched her hair and sighed. All the excitement had apparently distracted them from the new vamp Buffy make-over she had given herself with the somewhat shorter locks with the red streaks. As well as her new outfits, though one of the tame ones because this was with her mother and friends, not just Spike. She had on her black leather skirt with a dark red halter top and knee high boots. She had thrown on her long leather jacket over it. She figured with the whole pregnancy thing she had a limited time to be wearing the super sexy for awhile.

Thankfully, no one had asked about the whole unwed mother thing, but she figured because they could only handle her having a baby with Spike at the moment and weren't ready for her being all mushy in love and marrying him. She couldn't even remember if she mentioned she was living with the guy. Oh well, if she didn't it was good because Xander would have fainted and if she did, it was good that he didn't faint.

Heck, Buffy was sure she wasn't ready for that sort of thing. She only recently moved on from hating him to passably liking him with boinking privileges. Gawd, she was such a slut... She ran her hands over her face as she headed towards the cemetery for her usual nighttime feeding. Ugh, necking fledges... she made a face at the thought.

It didn't take her that long that night to find a couple fledges to feed on. She was just finishing off the second one when she sensed someone approaching. Another fledge apparently. Ohhh... she was too full to feed on this one... would just do the old fashioned staking. She got up and turned around to face him, but stopped and blinked wide-eyed.

"Riley..." She swallowed and started to back away. "They said you died." Well duh, that's why she sensed vampire. Oh god, they turned him, too. She back up into a headstone and stumbled. "This isn't right..."

"And you dry humping and necking vamps in a graveyard is?" He looked at her with lip curled in disgust.

"I... I was feeding... I have to do it that way... human blood makes me sick and obviously a turned slayer feeds on vampires..." She swallowed again and tried to calm her frazzled nerves. She had gotten all the shocks to her system she could take lately and this was not helping.

"You always did prefer the press of a dead body," he said darkly and started walking towards her. He spread his arms wide. "Am I good enough for you now? I'm not just some powerless human you have to protect and I got the fangs you lust after."

She looked up at him with wide eyes, trying to remind herself that he was now a soulless vampire. He wasn't a slayer and didn't get to keep his soul. The things he was saying... it was the demon talking. She just needed to keep reminding herself that it was the demon talking. She still felt tears stinging the back of her eyes. She chalked it up to pregnant hormones or something...

"No. No, you're not because I don't love you..." she shook her head slowly.

"You love Spike?" He arched a brow and scowled at her. "His stink is all over you." Then he tilted his head, "And there is something else I can sense... but just faintly..."

She put her hands over her stomach and kept backing away from him. Her mouth opened and closed, not completely sure how to answer his question. "I... I don't know... I..." She sighed and shook her head. "I don't owe you any answers. That's mine and his business..."

"I take that as a no?" He smirked and started advancing on her again. "I feel sorry for the child, to be brought up by parents that can't stand each other." He made a face of mock-pity as he came closer and closer.

Her back hit the crypt behind her and she scowled up at him. "Hey! It's not like that! I said my feelings for him were none of your business... and just because I'm not sure if I totally love him, doesn't mean I HATE him! I... I-I care for him! I do! I'm just still working out how much I care..." She glanced down at her stomach briefly and then back up at him. "And you leave my little girl out of this! Just because you're all jealous crazy because of Spike you won't take it out on her, she's innocent! And she will be raised by loving parents! And my friends will be there, too... even if they don't care for Spike, they're still happy for the baby!"

She glared up at him, but yelped when his hand shot out and caught her throat. He lifted her off her feet and snarled. She kicked and struggled as he lifted her higher, but now they were both pretty much on equal footing power wise. Both fledge vampires. He had advantage in size now, though. She cursed to herself as she kept trying to fight him off. It was the demon, not Riley. It was the demon.

"Buffy Buffy... how you've slipped... becoming the whore of some mass murdering vampire... letting yourself believe you two have feeling for each other... and baring his demon spawn..." He reached out with his free hand, drawing his nail over her stomach and leaving a bleeding line in it's wake. "I can't let that thing growing inside you continue... who knows what kind of apocalypses these sort of things bring on... the child of vampires..."

"NO! Leave her alone!" She shrieked and started clawing at his arm frantically. "Riley, stop!"

He started to pull his arm back to punch her or who knows what, and her eyes widened even further if that was possible. But then he was gone as some blur of black flew at him as she fell to the ground gasping for unneeded air and rubbing at her neck. She swallowed and looked over to find Angel on top of Riley, pummeling him then reaching for a stake that Buffy had dropped. She quickly scrambled over on hands and knees to grab Angel's arm.

"No, don't," she croaked.

"But he attacked you and tried to harm you, he's turned and not the same guy. The guy you knew is gone." He looked over at her with annoyance. "Buffy, you better than anyone know that your friend died the moment they drained him and it's only a shell that a demon took over when their sire turned them."

"But Spike doesn't have a soul... and he's not like he once was..." her voice shook and she turned to look at Riley, but blinked when she saw he was gone. "Dammit..."

"You know he's just going to come after you again." He helped her up with a sigh. "Spike... well... that's different. He's taken over a hundred years and that chip... Riley is gone. Face facts, Buffy." He brushed himself off and motioned towards the entrance to the cemetery then started to walk that way.

She followed and shook her head. "I guess... if he does come back and try to attack me again, I'll... I'll try and stake him, or Spike'll probably do it for just looking at me the wrong way... actually, once I tell him he's probably going to just go out hunting Riley right away." She put a hand over her bleeding stomach and glanced up at Angel. "I'm all with the thankfulness for you saving me, but what're you doing back in Sunnydale again?"

"Heard about a turned slayer in the area... figured it wasn't Faith so it had to be you and came to check it out." He reached inside his jacket and pulled out a handkerchief, handing it to her to hold over the cut. "Guess the rumors are true. So, what happened?" He was avoiding the whole Spike issue for the time being, not having missed the way she had talked about him.

"Well, short edited version, Dracula came to town and set his sights on a slayer conquest... was doing his best to work his thrally stuff on me while making Xander a Renfield... had Xander kidnap me... held us both captive and he turned me... Giles, Riley, and Spike came to save me... Spike was s'posed to distract Drac while they found me. He got a surprise when I was with Drac and killed Drac to get me out of there, while the brides apparently found the others. They killed Riley. Giles got Xander out of there as soon as the brides ran off when they sensed Drac's death." She let out a breath. "Yup, that was the short, edited version."

"I'd hate to hear the long, detailed version then." He ran a hand through his hair. "Spike saved you... why?" He arched a quizzical brow in her direction.

"Would you rather him have left me there to be Drac's latest bride and fuck toy?" Her eyes flashed blue with irritation, not ready for Angel to get all broody over her being with Spike. And, she knew she was going to have to just tell him. No getting around it. He needed to get the message that she was with Spike and there would be no Angel coming in for a short visit to mess with her emotions.

"No, of course not. I just... it doesn't seem like Spike." He vehemence in defending his Grand-Childe confirmed it for him.

"Maybe the Spike you knew... but not the way he is now. Like I said, he's not the same Spike. Heck, maybe part of it has to do with the chip... but that only keeps him from harming humans... it doesn't make him actually HELP them like he's been doing." She stopped and turned towards Angel near the gates to the cemetery. "Look, you saw the rumors are true for yourself and thank you for saving me from Riley... but if maybe it'll be best if you leave. I don't want you starting trouble with Spike."

"You and him... you're together, aren't you?"

"Well... yeah, we sorta are. I'm living with him and I guess we're dating or whatever."

He ran his hand through his hair again and looked at her with a pained expression. "Buffy..."

"Wait. That's not the only thing... I... I'm pregnant... and it's his." She winced when he cried out in surprise. "It was the Powers... something about it being a mystical key... they sent me a messenger to tell me." She held up her hands. "Now don't start... please... I'm happy, I really am. All my friends and my mom are being understanding as best as they can."

"Even Xander?" His brows shot up.

"Well... he's trying... he's stopped running from the room angrily... for the most part... he just gets that 'I'm either gonna faint or be sick' look that Giles used to get." She nodded and then smiled. "Yeah, and Giles is okay with it for the most part... though he's trying to bury himself in research to deal with everything that's happened since Drac..." She shrugged.

He let out a slow breath and ran a hand through his hair yet again. She idly wondered if she was going to go bald from that and blinked, coming out of it when he spoke. "Well, if they can try, so can I... at least, not cause any more problems for you. You have enough at the moment. In fact, I think I'll stay around a bit... try to help some."

She bit her lip. "Thank you."

"Now, tell me more about this mystical key business."

They both left the cemetery, heading towards town discussing what Buffy knew and catching each other up on what had happened in each other's lives recently. Across the street, there was a low growl emanating from the shadows of an alley. Spike watched the two ex-lovers come out of the cemetery together, acting chummy again. He pulled out a cigarette and started puffing away angrily. He had come to check on Buffy and found her with his Grand-Sire. The big poof better not have designs on his woman and Buffy better not have ideas for trading up. He flicked the cigarette and turned to stomp off.

~Chapter Six~

AN: Thank you to the people who voted for a name.

There was no sign of Spike when Buffy returned to the apartment later. She tossed her jacket over the back of the couch and headed for the bathroom to tend to her gash. She shucked her dirty clothes then took a long scalding shower before getting out and throwing on a pair of shorts and a camisole. She bandaged her stomach and then headed out of the bedroom. In the living room was the baby names book she had been reading. She picked it up and flopped onto the couch to read, totally clueless of the trouble that was brewing.

She didn't look up when she heard the door open, knowing it had to be Spike even before his scent confirmed it. She just wondered why he was just then getting back since she was the one who had gotten sidetracked. Had he ran into trouble as well? Had Riley went after him after Angel scared him off? She dropped the name book in worry and got to her feet quickly, looking him over to assess if he seemed to be hurt.

"Spike..." she said softly with a slightly questioning tone.

"So where is he?" He walked forward to look down at her darkly. He registered the smell of blood and his eyes briefly left her face to search for the cause. He couldn't see anything and knew it wasn't just feminine causes since she was now a vampire. His attention returned to her face as she answered and left that question for later.

"Where's who?" she blinked at him. "And what took you so long... you weren't attacked as well, were you?" Her eyes roamed over him in much the same fashion he had and she tried sniffing for blood.

For a brief second, he was amused as he watched her nose working like a bunny. She was trying to scent him and working a little too hard for it. Kind of like when her nose wrinkled when she tried to think really hard on something. He waved it away and told himself to stop acting like a sodding ponce. There were things to suss out.

"The magnificent poofter... saw you an' him, I did." He nodded firmly. "Thought you'd be able t' keep it from me with a little shower t' get his scent off ya?" He leaned in close with his jaw working. "You're mine, got it? Won' have you goin' 'round flip-floppin' between us, leadin' us both along like good little puppies lappin' up the attention you toss our way."

She thumped his chest angrily. "Knock it off!" Her lips pressed for a moment then she put her hands on her hips and tilted her head. "I wasn't going to keep him from you at all! You just got in the door and laid right in to me, not giving me a chance to tell you what a hell MY night was. No, you jump to conclusions and come in here being a bastard to me!" She pushed him back away from her. "Jackass! If you'll shut up I'll tell you what happened to me!" She rolled her eyes, unbelieving that seconds ago she had been worried about this... this... she was too angry to even come up with a good word for him.

"Fine. You got my attention, Slayer. What happened t' you an' how does Angel play int' it?" His face softened fractionally and he leaned his hip against the chair with his hands shoved in the pockets of his duster. "Have somethin' t' do with the blood I smell?"

"Yeah. Riley's not dead," she began, raising a brow slightly as she gauged his reaction. Yet another Ex for him to possibly get pissy about. When he didn't fly off the handle, she continued. "Well, DEAD, but not gone dead. The brides apparently turned him back at the castle. He... was less than thrilled when I told him to buzz off cause I was with you. Even LESS thrilled when that included the news that I was pregnant with your child. He attacked me and well," she lifted her shirt to show the wound, "was going for the baby. Started raving about it being signs of the apocalypse or something. I think he's gone crazy or something after his ordeal."

His hands went out to span her abdomen, careful of the slash. "Pet... I'm sorry I wasn' there..." His azure eyes lifted to hers apologetically, all anger gone so quickly. "Is it bad?"

"Might've need a few stitches if I were still human, but the fact I'm full on blood and with the vampire healing and stuff... I'll be fine," she moved his hands away gently so that she could lower her shirt again, almost pouting at the loss of contact even if she had been the one to break it. "It could probably have been worse. Our child and I might've been dead if it hadn't been for Angel. He came along and scared Riley off."

He growled softly, hating that he was indebted to the poofter for saving his mate. "Not that I'm not glad he saved you, but what the hell is he doin' back in Sunnyhell?"

She sighed and sat back down, picking the book up again. "Apparently word travels fast. He heard of a turned slayer, and considering the very few options for who it could be he came to make sure I was all right." She tilted her head and looked up at Spike, saying gently, "He was concerned, okay? For all he knew, I was a soulless undead going around munching on my former friends."

"Well now he knows better an' he can go back t' wherever he came from," he slid down onto the couch beside her, pulling her close to cradle between his legs with her back to his chest. His hand stroked her stomach idly, feeling their child only the faintest much at this stage.

"But don't you think we could use his help with dealing with Riley? I doubt he's just going to decide he's not crazy anymore and leave us alone." She sighed. "Not to mention the, hello, hellgod that's after our baby? I'm pretty sure we're going to need all the help we can get on something like that. I've never faced a god before... and I know you're going to be as overprotective of her as I am. So, the more help protecting her, the better, right?"

"Right, can' be too careful with itty-bitty's welfare," he sighed. "Sure, we'll use his help if he wants t' stay t' help with the hellgod. But, I hope he understands that you're my mate an' if he tries anythin' he's liable t' get staked." He growled slightly and tightened his hold on her.

She rolled her eyes at his possessiveness. "Yes, I explained that to him. Please have some faith in me at least. Even if he did try to make some sort of advance, it would be completely shot down."

She turned her head to look at him and feathered a kiss at the corner of his mouth. She felt him hardening against her back at that brief kiss and smiled, pleased that she affected him so much.

He relaxed now that he felt the matter was settled. "Going t' stake Captain Cardboard when I see him for what he tried t' do t' you an' itty bitty." His hand snaked around her to take the book from her hand and hold it up where he could see. "An' what is my little goldilocks readin' that's been so interestin' lately?"

"Eh... a book with baby names... I know its early still, but I was curious about at least starting to find some I like... take sometime to see how they sat with me instead of deciding the name that's going to be with this child their entire life on the spur of the moment like some people." She chewed on her bottom lip and took the book back.

"So, anythin' strike your fancy yet for our little bit, luv?"

"Mmm hmm, a few names. I'll mark them and see if they still sound good later. You never know with the whole pregnant mood swing thing. I also got one of those books that tell you just about everything you need to know about being pregnant and having a baby." She nodded proudly. "Studying even though I'm not in school anymore.. One year of college has ruined me." She chuckled and waved a hand. "Always have my mom to discuss things with if I need to... she has been through this before you know."

He smirked in amusement and nodded. "Fancy readin' that as well. Want t' be able t' take care of my girls properly." His hand stroked her stomach with affection. "An' do I got any say on the name here? Mine as well."

"I'll run it by you... but do you really think I'd end up naming my child something silly?"

"I don' know... Buffy... who knows what your hormones may lead you t' think is a good name for her."

"What's wrong with Buffy, Spike? And I doubt my hormones would get so bad I'd want to name her after a fruit or something." She pouted and flipped through the book.

"Now, don' be like that, pet. Jus' wanted my fair share of the fun of havin' a baby." He nuzzled her neck, inhaling her scent. It was even sweeter now that she was pregnant with his child.

"I understand and later we'll both read that book together." She covered his hand with her own.

*****

Angel headed across town towards his old mansion, figuring to stay there again now that he was back in town and unsure of how long he would be staying there. Buffy had briefly mentioned something about a hellgod during their conversation after he ran off the fledgling that had been Buffy's recent boyfriend, Riley. And oddly enough, even Angel would have thought he would be the one to be taking Buffy's relationship with Spike badly. He couldn't deny he did feel a bit upset at hearing that this relationship included the fact that she was pregnant with his child. That had given way to shock though when he had tried to work out in his mind how two vampires could be having a baby, which had led to the hasty explanation of it being a key she needed to protect from a hellgod.

So, even though he might be uncomfortable with the whole Buffy and Spike thing, he was going to help her as long as she allowed. It might be Spike's child, but if he would do his best to protect her child since it was Buffy's and for the next few months, protecting the baby would include protecting Buffy while they were connected. At the same time, being an interesting balancing act of being there for them while keeping his distance from Spike as much as he could. While he wasn't looking to cause trouble for them, he wasn't so sure sparks wouldn't start flying the moment Angel and Spike got together. They didn't need there to be bickering vampires constantly when energy should be used to stop this hellgod.

He paused, coming out of his thoughts when he sensed the presence of vampires approaching. He glanced around warily. Who knew what kind of minions this hellgod had... even vampires. He frowned when he saw three females emerge from the shadows to his left, dressed scantily and eyeing him like he was a particularly tasty dessert.

*****

Buffy went home the next day, apparently just to get fussed over by her mother. Granted, this was her first grandchild, one that she thought she might never have after learning her daughter was the slayer. So Buffy just went with it and let her do her fussing. She sat back and listened to her mother go on about all the tips she had for her daughter regarding the next nine months.

"Mom, I got this huge book that tells me just about everything I need to know. I did good and already started reading it. With Spike even... wasn't even sure he could read, but hey." She shrugged. "I'll take good notes and we can schedule study breaks so you can look them over." She grinned as she teased her poor mother.

"You're a wicked child. But, there are some things that might not be in that book and you'll only learn from talking to someone who's been through all this before," she shook a potholder at Buffy. She had been looking so drawn and tired since she returned from the hospital, but talking about the baby always got some of her a bit animated again. "I hope you remembered what that woman told you, even though you're a vampire now, you still have to eat really well for the baby. You never really even ate very well as a..." she obviously had difficulty saying it, "well before. So please remember to eat well."

"I will... you know Spike won't let me get away with skipping even one meal... practically force feeds me," she made a face at the battle they had that morning in fact. She lifted her watch and checked the time. "Well, I have to meet the others at the Magick Box. You make sure to take care of yourself, mom." She kissed Joyce's cheek.

Joyce shoved a tupperware dish of still cooling cookies at her daughter. "Make sure Spike gets some, too. Call if you need anything, no matter the time."

"I will, mom..." She pulled the hood up over her head and hurried out the back door. It was already starting to get dark out, she had been at her mom's for awhile now talking about the apartment and the baby.

She hurried into the Magick Box a short time later. She dropped the hood of her jacket and peeled it off to toss it aside as she headed towards the back of the store to join the others. Spike was already there and got up, sliding his arm around her and nuzzling a kiss into her hair. They ignored the disgusted sound that came from Xander's general direction. He would just have to eventually get over it as far as they were concerned. Buffy sat down and scooted over for Spike to sit beside her then rested her arms on the table to lean forward.

"So... anything on the researching front yet?" She asked hopefully.

"Well, without a name it is quite difficult to distinguish which hellgod we are dealing with. There are several. All of them could have uses for a mystical key, I must say. Anyone would if they wanted a power source for something big." Giles sighed and shook his head. "Until we get a name, there is little we can do but keep our eyes open."

"My baby is not a big battery," she pouted. "And they said key, so there has to be a mystical lock out there."

"Yes, but still... before it was given form as your child, it was big ball of energy and others would use that irregardless of its intentioned purpose. You understand that. You may need to protect your baby from more than this hellgod."

She continued to glower at the table top, not liking this one bit. Why couldn't everyone be like vampires and go all 'oh no, slayer, run!' so that she wouldn't have to worry about something coming after her baby. The would just see that the slayer was protecting the baby and then run for the hills all scared-like. She was jarred from her thoughts by the sounds of the bell above the door announcing someone was entering the shop. She would have thought customer except for the gasp from Willow.

Buffy looked and her own eyes about bugged out. Angel had come in, which would have been enough of a surprise for the others. But, Buffy's shock came from the fact that the three brides were crawling all over him. He was trying to dislodge himself from them so he could walk, but every few steps they all became entangled again so that progress was slow across the room.

She started to stand with a growl, but Spike held her back tightly before she did something bad. Giles was wiping at his glass animatedly and muttering, while Xander blushed scarlet and muttered an excuse to hurry up the stairs to look through the books out of sight.

"What the hell are they doing here?" Buffy settled for scowling at him dangerously from her seat since Spike wouldn't let her up.

"You... knew he was in town again?" Giles asked as he replaced his glasses and avoided looking towards the scene.

"Yeah, was going to tell you in a minute, but he sort of blew that idea out of the water, didn't he?" She went back to glaring.

"Buffy, I didn't bring them here willingly. I was heading back to my mansion last night after we talked and they just appeared! Now they won't leave me alone," he grunted as he tried to disentangle himself again. "Something about needing a new master. But, they won't take no for an answer."

"And they're not just dust because..."

"I can't get a chance!" He motioned, or rather tried to, as they just seemed to attach themselves to him again.

"Fine, let me do it." She started to stand and started swatting wildly at Spike when he still didn't let go of her. "Let go, let go! I'm only going to dust the sluts... and why did you stop me in the first place, wouldn't you have enjoyed seeing me stake Angel?!"

"Calm down, pet. It's not good for you or the baby." He said calmly as if she wasn't boxing in his ears that moment. Sadly, it was probably just that he was used to her abuse by now. "An' yes, normally I would dance in his dust, even help you. I just don' see how that's goin' t' do us any good right now. We need all the help we can get with protectin' the baby."

"That doesn't explain why you're still stopping me from dusting the sluts! Have you forgotten what they DID to me??!!" Her her voice was raising and her eyes were wide as she clawed at him.

This wasn't going well. This called for one of the few times he would ever bring himself to enforce his Sire's bond over her. He cupped her head in his hand and vamped, speaking in a low voice as he held her eyes with his gold ones. "You will relax an' go t' sleep, rest."

She continued to fight him weakly for a moment before slumping against him unconscious. Spike relaxed as well once he stopped having to fend her off and was sure she wasn't about to hurt herself. He cast Angel a hateful glare as he stood with her cradled in his arms.

"How dare you bring them here." He hissed then looked over at Willow. "Red, please do some of your mojo t' get rid of the vampsluts before Buffy wakes. I'll take her int' the trainin' room t' get her t' calm down a bit."

The others looked at each other worriedly after he disappeared into the other room with the slayer. They were a bit surprised by her outburst, but the worried looks turned to accusatory ones in Angel's direction. None of them moved for awhile, even the brides had stilled as they realized their fate seemed to be in question. Willow finally stood after a moment, looking like she was going to do just as Spike had asked. The brides recognized this and disappeared in three puffs of smoke.

Angel relaxed finally. "Look, I didn't mean for all that to happen. They wouldn't get off me and I was actually hoping you guys would help me get rid of them." He looked at them tiredly. "Well you scared them off for the time being, so thank you. I didn't know she would react like that. I really didn't. She didn't tell me very much... I didn't know..." He ran his hands over his face and through his hair. "I'll just get out of here for now and keep on trying to see what I can find out through my connections."

He turned to leave and the Scoobies just looked amongst themselves, unsure of what to do. Maybe it was best he leave so they could avoid a vampire war in the middle of the shop.

Tara stood and put her hand on Willow's shoulder. "I'll go check on them and see if I can help any. This also reminds me, I was going to suggest that since we couldn't find anything and probably won't until we know more, then maybe we could do a different bit of research. Somehow I really doubt we'll find anything about pregnant vampires, but from what Buffy told us it seems that the Powers told her to treat it like a normal pregnancy. So... why not just find out about pregnancy so we can be helpful... and maybe even some small charms and potions to help her during the next nine months. I'm sure she'll really appreciate something for the morning sickness and the discomfort and the pain even." She nodded.

Giles raised a brow and smiled. "Yes, that does sound like a nice idea for a diversion from the recent depression we've been under. We'll get to that."

The witch was pleased to get approval for her idea and smiled as she headed for the training room. She poked her head in tentatively, hoping tempers had calmed down and if they had that the two weren't being intimate. "Hey..." she said softly as she tried to peer into the darkness.

"You can turn on the light, Glinda." He told her softly and she did.

He was sitting on the couch with Buffy curled up in his lap, still out of it. Tara went over to sit at the other end of the couch, folding her hands in her lap.

"Guess you can sense he left, yeah?" He nodded and she continued. "Do you... is there anything I can do to help?"

"Nah, thanks, luv." He gave her a kind smile as he stroked Buffy's hair. "I'll jus' take her home in a bit an' let her sleep it off. I'd ask you t' jus' erase her memory of what they did t' her, but she wouldn' approve of that an' if she ever found out she'd dust me." He sighed.

"Yes, in the very least, if would have to be her choice," Tara nodded in agreement and motioned towards the door. "We're stopping researching this hellgod and the key for a bit, for a much cheerier research subject. We're going to learn all we can about pregnancy so we can be helpful. Willow and I are going to see if there's anything we can do that'd help with her morning sickness and anything else to make this easier on her."

"That's right nice of you all," a slight smile curved his lips, glad that even though the child was his and most likely going to bring lots of trouble for the group that they were still supportive. He stood, carrying Buffy towards the door. "She bought a book as well. We've been readin' it t'gether an' it tells us lots of stuff about being pregnant. She'll be pleased t' have all of your help an' she would be overjoyed at the prospect of somethin' t' keep away the mornin' sickness."

He carried Buffy back out into the shop and everyone looked up curiously. "Right then. I'm goin' t' take her back t' the apartment. Figure t' tell you what she had planned t' say before we were distracted. Last night after she left you guys, she went on patrol t' fee an' ran int' an old friend of ours. It seems Soldier Boy was turned. Attacked her an' went for the baby, raving about it bein' a sign of the apocalypse. Angel scared him off, though."

He shifted Buffy as a heavy silence followed. "Figure after that, he deserved t' not be dusted on sight today. Sure he'll know better next time, hopefully. We need all the help we can get protectin' itty bitty an' as long as he doesn' cause anymore trouble then I won' either. Know you blokes worried about us havin' it out..." He shrugged. "Like I said, I'll behave as long as he does, though."

"How very... mature of you," Giles said, but not with his usual sarcastic tones. "Yes, please get her home and we will continue with our little pet project. Though, I have one concern. According to what Buffy told us, the messenger made no mention of her body temperature. The fetus will need to be kept warm, but you realize as a vampire her body is quite cold like your own. Maybe her body will develop a sort of fever to automatically keep her warm during the pregnancy, but if not you should try to keep her warm. Just as you would with an incubator, for pregnancy is like an internal incubator. So I suggest as soon as you get home you wrap her snuggly in layers of blankets."

Spike lifted his brows. He hadn't even thought of that. It made perfect sense and he was glad Giles had brought it up before damage was done to his daughter. He smiled warmly and nodded before leaving the store.

He carried Buffy into the darkened apartment, not bothering with the lights. There was no need. He could see perfectly as he made his way to the bedroom where he laid her down on the bed then went to get more blankets like Giles had suggested. He slipped into bed beside her and curled up around her, hand stroking her stomach affectionately. His itty bitty daughter was in there. Blessed with a child he never thought he would have after Drusilla turned him. A blessing brought to him double fold by this little slayer. She might not be sure if she loved him yet, but he knew... it was only a matter of time before she realized it. He kissed her temple and slipped into peaceful slumber.

~Chapter Seven~

AN: I so suck at the smutty stuff *faints*

Buffy opened her eyes and found herself snuggled close to the father of her child. She smiled at the thought of that. She had wanted normal and thought that had meant dating someone like Riley. But, somehow the normalness of her current position struck her as funny. Circumstances aside. She was in bed in her first apartment, pregnant with a precious baby girl, and cuddled lovingly by the father of said child. It was the thing any normal girl would dream of for herself.

She sighed inwardly. Love. She wasn't completely sure what he felt for her. What Riley had said had struck a cord in her, though. It might have been the demon taunting her obviously, but still. She didn't want her daughter raised by parents that hated each other, only staying together for the child. She knew personally the hell that put the kid through and like most parents, wanted better for her daughter. Well, she wasn't too worried if Spike cared for her, everything he had done since saving her from Dracula had spoke to how much he cared for her. And, what she had told Riley was true. She was coming to care for Spike as well. Whether it was the Sire-Childe bond, appreciation for what he did for her, or anything else like that, it didn't matter to her. She had made the decision that she would try to love him.

She felt him shift and his fingers fluttered over her stomach. Her eyes went up to his face and met his azure ones, watching her so intently even now heavy-lidded with sleep.

"You okay, luv?" he asked softly, concern colouring his face slightly.

"Yeah," she nodded and covered his hand with her own. "Just thinking how nice this is."

"Very," he agreed and feathered kisses across her brow. "Bloke could get used t' this."

"You should. I don't plan on going anywhere." She smiled, "Though you probably shouldn't get used to the pregnant thing, I guess."

He lowered his head to kiss her belly reverently and then rested his head against her breast. "I know. I appreciate what a rare an' precious gift you're givin' me, pet. Somethin' I didn' think I'd have or even wanted until I found you."

She rolled her eyes as she stroked his hair. "The powers are the ones that gave us the baby."

"No, slayer, they only made it possible." He lifted his eyes to her. "We made the baby, it's made of us an' a product of our lovemakin'. It's goin' t' have your beauty an' my wit. It's ours an' you are the one that's goin' t' give her life so that we both can raise her up right with love." He cursed his inner William, but at the same time thanked him for the ability to put how he felt into words.

Her eyes widened and tears shown in them. "Spike... that was so..." She pulled his face close and kissed him hard, she doubted it would be hard to find love for a man who could spout such wonderfully sweet things to her.

"Mmm," he deepened the kiss, starting to rub his erection against her thigh.

She reached down and took him in her hand, stroking him slowly and delighting in the groans it wrenched from him. He moved over her, kissing at her shoulder and down to her breast. He tugged at her nipple gently with his teeth and caught at her hips to pin her in place. Moving her hand aside, he positioned himself at her entrance. He needed her, needed her so bad and needed her right then. He teased her, though, moving the tip up and down her slit. His hands kept her from trying to get him inside impatiently.

"Spiiike," she whined, pouting up at him.

"Gonna get that lip," he purred and dipped his head to capture her mouth again, suckling and nibbling said lip.

He finally entered her, slowly inch by torturous inch so that she was whimpering. He still kept her hands pinned in one hand, hips pinned with the other so that she couldn't rush him any. His mouth trailed along her jaw to her throat where he bit down with his blunt teeth before thrusting in completely.

She tossed back her head and gave a sharp groan. He finally let go of her hips so that they could match his rhythm, move with him. He kept her arms pinned, though, even as she twisted at them to get them free. She needed to touch him, run her fingers over every inch of him. She groaned again in need, arching her back to get the friction of his hard chest against her softer breasts. Her legs wrapped around his waist to anchor him tightly to her, rubbing the back of one of his thighs with a foot.

"God, woman... what you do t' me..." he ground out against her shoulder and pumped into her harder, his thrusts quickening. "Always done t' me!" He growled and bit at her shoulder savagely, but still with his blunt teeth.

She moaned loudly and continued to match his thrusts with her own, continued to try to get her arms free in vain. She finally stopped tugging at them as she got lost in the pleasure, continually moaning as his mouth found her breast again. Tongue curling around her hardened peak, teeth grazing, the suckling.

Her back arched almost painfully. "Spike!"

His mouth moved back up to her throat. Between kisses, he rambled, "Let me claim you. I need it so badly, let me claim you, pet. I need t' claim you."

Her brain, hazed with passion, misunderstood what he was really asking, taking it for the euphemism it normally meant. "Yes, oh god, please." She gasped.

He slipped into his vamp face, teeth extending, then bit into her neck. She choked out a hoarse cry of pleasure as her climax hit her with the pleasure-pain of the bite. Her muscles clamped down on him inside her. He drank deeply, then lifted his head to growl "Mine" as he spilled himself. He bent his head to lick at the bite at her neck, finally releasing her hands.

She nuzzled his neck, making little nummy sounds of delight.

"Pet, you need t' say 'yours' t' confirm it. Then bite me back an' do the same." He murmured in her ear.

"Yours," she said slightly puzzled. She wasn't quite sure what she was confirming, but she was all too happy to bite him and get a taste of the yummy sire blood. Her demon took over at his invitation and she drank from his neck. She finally lifted her head after a moment and sighed, "Mine."

"Your, luv, always yours." He said into her mouth as he kissed her.

She was surprised when she felt suddenly something slide into place deep within her. She also could feel him was more acutely then she ever could as a slayer, even if she concentrated, his thoughts. Which were... blushworthy at the moment. She pulled her mouth away and stared up at him in shock, then sat up quickly.

"W-w... what just happened?" She blinked at him.

"I claimed you." He said simply, watching her with a slight frown. "You agreed t' it."

"Well, yeah, but sex never did that before!" She waved a hand between them.

He rolled his eyes at her. "No, you daft bint, the claim! Don' tell me you don' know what a claim is. Didn' your watcher teach you anythin' useful 'bout vamps?" He shook his head.

"I thought when you said that, you meant it like the usual male euphemism for having sex or something!" She looked up at him with wide eyes. "You so better explain what you just did to me."

He sighed and pulled her close, relieved when she didn't resist. That meant she couldn't really be mad at him then, just obviously shocked and confused. He was sorry about that, she didn't need any more of that after the last week or so. He truly had thought her watcher would have thought to cover something like this.

"It's okay, pet. It's nothin' horrible. You know I wouldn' do anythin' bad t' my little golden slayer." He brushed a kiss across her brow. "The claim is somethin' special, it is. It's rare among vamps, cause you know how we like t' play an' have ourselves a right good time of it. But, when a vampire has found the one person they want t' be with for the rest of their unlife, they claim them. Tie that other vampire t' them. It's like a marriage, but even more bindin'."

"Soo... we were just married?" She quirked a brow. "I didn't exactly get a proposal on bended knee and a gaudy ring. And my mom is probably going to be disappointed she didn't get to be with me on my wedding day."

He smirked. "You really wanted her here durin' all that, slayer?"

"Nooo..." she grumbled and hit his shoulder playfully, looking up at him indignantly. "You know what I meant."

"Well, if you really want a ring, we can go shoppin' for that later. Don' mind at all, long as it makes you happy, luv."

"Okay, well get on with more of the explainy on this thing." She sat back against the pillows and waved a hand at him.

He settled beside her and rested his head against her shoulder, hand playing over her stomach as she saw her liked to do a lot lately. It wasn't sexual in nature like his usual addiction to touching her, but more as if he could already sense their child growing in there. Even a few days old and most likely something along the lines of an amoeba at this point.

"You obviously already noticed that when it bound us, we get a sort of link... can talk without talkin' over it. Keep in contact even when we're not together, too." He switched over to doing just that, //We can feel each other, too. Not jus' our thoughts... but, I guess our emotions. We're linked that closely now. I already could sense you a bit that way with the Sire bound I had on you, but now it's much much stronger.//

She groaned. "I won't be able to keep anything from you anymore, will I?"

"Nope," he grinned. //Well... though I really don' want t' tell you, but you'd just figure it out anyways... you can shut me out, but it'd jus' make us both sick. So its not somethin' you really ever do... also, bein' away from each other for a long time or long distances would make us both sick.//

"So... what if something happens to one of us then? We can feel each other... so if we got hurt, the other would feel the pain and everything... and if we were dusted, what then?? We can't be without each other and we'd feel the pain of the death blow, probably..."

He pressed a kiss to her neck over his claiming mark, sending her a bit of calming energy. "The other would die, but I would never let anythin' happen t' you. You know that."

She pouted, not totally okay with this yet. "You so owe me two rings for this... big ones, too. And a big pretty dress. And and... I want a dog." She put her nose in the air and got up, prancing into the bathroom.

*****

After they finished their little shopping trip, Buffy and Spike walked into the Magick Box, frowning at the boards over the window. Anya and Giles were sweeping up broken glass while Tara and Willow went about putting undamaged items back on the shelves while Xander carried a box of broken items to the back. Buffy glanced up at Spike in concern before going over to Willow.

"What happened here?" she asked her friend and picked up a couple things to help put them away.

Willow looked up and gave Buffy a sad smile. "Apparently there was a break in last night. Anya looked over everything when she got here and says she didn't notice anything missing, though."

"Guess they didn't find what they were looking for," Buffy shrugged and frowned down at a rather ugly little statue. She smiled after a moment and turned around, nearly knocking the redhead over. "Oh, I nearly forgot. I do got something good to brighten up a bit. Spike took me shopping and I got a snazzy new ring."

Tara and Willow bent over her hand to make the customary 'ooo's. Anya even hurried over to look.

"Ooo, big." Anya nodded in approval. "He must really love you if he's willing to spend lots of glorious money on you." She glanced over her shoulder at Xander, hoping he got the hint.

"Yeah, um right," Buffy said then lowered her hand.

"So, he proposed? For real this time?" Willow asked excitedly. "We're going to have our first Scooby wedding?"

"Uh, not exactly." She bit her lip and blushed. "According to him, we're already... sorta married. In a weird mystical sense, I just demanded I get a ring if we were."

"You're what?" Giles finally paid attention to the "women chatter" that was going on. He whipped his glasses off his face and started cleaning them with shaking hands. "You mean he..." He trailed off, unable to say it.

"Claimed her," Spike finished, thumbs hooked in his jeans and looking rather pleased with himself.

"Well yes, congratulations then," the englishman moved away to behind the counter. He didn't disapprove or wasn't too shocked. When Buffy was turned and struck up a relationship with the other vampire, he had somewhat expected it to come eventually. Especially when he had learned she was pregnant by him. It was just the sudden imagery that had popped into his head that was getting him utterly flustered. "I need a drink," he muttered before going to the back room.

Buffy took his reaction as a bad sign and frowned, leaning into Spike.

"Oh, don't worry, Buffy. You know he'll come around. He's been really good about all this so far," Willow patted her shoulder.

"What's a claim?" Xander suddenly asked.

Anya looked away then back at him, patting his hand as she handed him another box of broken items then nudging him in the direction of the back room. "I'll explain to you later, honey."

*****

In a house not far from the outskirts of town, Glory sat on the arm of a sofa. She filed her nails, barely listening to the demons in front of her as they told her how their hunting was going. Such ugly little things, they sort of hurt her eyes to look at them. But, sigh, they were needed to do the dirty work that she couldn't be bothered with. Now, if she could just get them to take a bath at least one a week... or at least once a month... She rolled her eyes and stood up, kicking them out of her way.

"I'm really getting bored with you guys." She told them as she went over to the mirror to check her teeth. She leaned back and primped her fried hair. "I need my key and you guys said you would get it for me. And so far, you've been a complete failure."

She turned around to frown at them, crossing her arms in front of her. "I've been really patient with you little warts. But eventually, I'm not going to be so patient. Then, I might have to start killing you, got it?"

"Oh, your most magnificent and beautiful one," one of the demons started hobbling towards her on his knees. "We have looked in every conceivable place in this town."

"Well conceive of more places to look," she shot back and stepped over him to go sit back down on the sofa. "I want my key and I want it now!!"

*****

Over the next few months, things continued on as before. The usual couple of fledges a night for Buffy to feed on and dust while on patrol. There were a couple more reports of break ins where nothing was stolen, but the place being torn apart as if someone was searching for something. The Scoobies continued to do research to find out who this hellgod was that wanted to steal Buffy's baby. They were no closer to narrowing it down and still were waiting for more clues to help tell them which one it might be.

Buffy was starting to show, though, and probably because of hormones she alternated between being delighted with the growth of her baby, to being moody at becoming a 'fat cow'. No amount of reassurance from Spike or the others made her feel less blubbery. She did go visit her mother every day, even though Joyce assured her that she had her own life now and didn't need to bother her poor mother every day. Buffy knew her mom was just saying that to keep Buffy from feeling liked she needed to come every day. But, she wanted to. She liked talking with her mother about the "joys" of pregnancy. Learning from an expert, as she saw it. She also saw it as an excuse to escape an evermore clingy Spike.

Her mother started to look more run down, though. She was always so tired with shadows under her eyes and taking off more and more time from work to stay home. She eventually stopped going out and Buffy got worried. She had thought the surgery and stuff had helped, she kept trying to get her mom to go back to the doctors, but Joyce kept giving excuses and putting it off.

One day, Buffy made the decision that today she was going to make Joyce go to the hospital and if she tried to weasle out of it, she would simply toss her mother over her shoulder and carry her there. All the thunder went out of her as she stepped into the stillness of the house, going into the living room tentatively and looking at the couch in horror.

Spike sensed her distress just before she fainted. She woke to the coroner wheeling Joyce out and Spike cradling her in his arms in the kitchen. From there she remembered little, it was all a blur. Spike took care of most of it with the help of Giles, she mostly stayed in bed except for when Spike dragged her to the funeral. Afterwards, she went back to bed and didn't come out.

Spike couldn't even get her to go out to feed. He had to feeding more than usual then letting her feed off him. It was either that or him knocking out fledges then dragging them back to the apartment. He just left her to her moping while with the help of Giles and Xander, he moved their things into the house which Buffy had obviously inherited. He would wait til she got out of her funk to decide the finer details, no matter how long that took.

He also got to turning the spare room in the house into a nursery with the help of the female scoobies. He tried to get Buffy involved in this, thinking this would at least appeal to her, but nothing. She would just grumble something rude in his direction and roll over to face away from him like any other time he tried to get her out of bed.

On the day the finally made the final move into the house, he resorted to simply picking her up to carry her out of the apartment. When she got to the house, he set her on her feet and looked down at her with an encouraging smile.

"There, finally carried you over the threshold all proper like." He bent to kiss her, but she was already gone, heading upstairs to Joyce's old room.

She crawled into the bed and hugged her mother's old pillow, burying her nose in it to inhale the scent left in it of Joyce. He came into the room and looked down at her with a sigh, finally giving up and going to lay beside her. He curled around her back and buried his face in her hair. Eventually... eventually he would get her back. He just had to give her time.

*****

A couple weeks after they moved in, Spike was at the Magick Box with the Scoobies. He leaned his hip against the counter and hooked his thumbs in his pockets, looking down at his doc martins. Buffy wasn't getting any better and he simply didn't know what to do anymore. If she didn't get better, how was she going to protect their baby and all this moping certainly couldn't be good for the baby in the first place.

"She hasn't gotten out of bed at all?" Tara's brows went up.

"Nope. Not since she died. Was a bloody miracle I even got the slayer outta bed t' go t' the funeral." His fingers twitched, wanting a cigarette. But he didn't even carry them on him anymore. "I stopped even tryin' after we moved in an' her immediately goin' t' Joyce's room. Before that, would come in t' coax her out, only t' get an earful of language I didn' even know she knew."

"Normally, I would say leave her to it... this thing is quite normal for grieving loved ones we were closed to... but what with the danger we all face and her present condition, we shouldn't allow it to go any further." Giles shook his head decisively.

"Well if you got any idea how t' go about it, Rupes, then I'm all ears. I've tried jus' 'bout everythin' I know t' try."

"Yes, well, we'll think of something. We have to. And we're her friends, surely she will realize how much we care about her and need her."

"I'm her soddin' *MATE*!!" Spike straightened and shouted at Giles, hands balled into fists at his side. "*I* bloody well love her an' care about her an' NEED her. An' she won' come out of this for *ME*!!" He flung out his hands, expression tortured. "I don' know what t' do an' it's drivin' me *INSANE*!!"

Willow started to get up to go to him. Spike saw this and turned to leave before they saw the tears that were welling up in his eyes and threatening to start down his cheeks. He stomped towards the door to leave, wrenching it open and nearly toppling over a petite blonde who was reaching out to open the door at the same exact second.

"Bloody shop's closed. Sorry." He averted his eyes and went to step around her, but she stepped into his path.

He finally looked down at the girl, studying her. She must have a death wish to be blocking his way like that. A vampire in a really pissy mood. She looked to be about the nearly the same age as Buffy or maybe a couple years younger. She couldn't be much over five feet tall with long blonde hair that fell nearly to her waist in waves. She had obviously put a couple black streaks in it in some sort of punk style, her dress was the same. It was accompanied by black nail polish and heavy black eyeliner around heavily lashed azure eyes that were looking up at him widely.

"Uh no, I actually came here to see you." She said nervously, obviously studying him as well.

He looked away and swiped at his eyes with the back of his hand, trying to compose himself. "Really? Well if you're here sellin' somethin' or runnin' an errand for someone else..."

"No, no, I was sent here to help." She nodded and tried to look around him at the others. "Can I come in?"

"Sure, knock yourself out," he took an unneeded breath and stepped back to allow her entry, motioning towards the back of the shop. "Sent here... by who?"

She managed to bounce along in her combat boots towards the others. "Actually, it was Willow."

"Me? Huh?" The redhead blinked.

"I'm from the future. I'm a friend and you-they thought it would be less freakier to send someone who wasn't one of you back. So there's wouldn't be two and all that sort of confusion." She shrugged, "I'm here to help you defeat Glory."

"Glory? W-who's Glory?" Giles was cleaning his glasses and squinting at her.

"Glorificus. It's the hellgod that you've been trying to find out about, that wants to maim Buffy's baby." She explained matter-of-factly. "Guess you haven't even learned that yet. Well, I'm from the future and I can help, but I really can't tell you much, cause of the whole affecting the future and all that rot. But, I can lend another pair of strong hands and more magic wielding and all that."

"That would be nice," Tara smiled at her. "By the way, you haven't told us your name."

"Oh, uh, Marie. I'm Marie." She smiled back then looked around. "Uh, where's Buffy? Out on patrol still... cause I really should tell her..."

"No. She's back at home. Won' leave bed ever since her mum died." Spike rocked on his heels and looked away. He looked back at her, "Shouldn' you have known that?"

"I wasn't totally sure where I would be landing. Later in the battle, or earlier, okay?" She rolled her eyes.

"This might help in snapping Buffy out of it, you know." Willow tried to draw their attention to keep them from bickering, especially after Spike's emotional outburst. She wasn't sure what he'd do if pushed again. "So let's go on over to the house and tell her. We'll bring some books and stuff and we can start researching Glorificus now that we got a name."

"Excellent idea." Giles agreed and gathered some books as they all turned to head out.

~Chapter Eight~

AN: Yeah, I didn't expect to fool anyone with Marie so don't think I'm insulting you intelligence with that "twist". I just liked the idea and wanted to use it for my story. The characters will be fooled for awhile at least, lol. Oh, and pics of her at my site. And, I didn't know Ben's last name... didn't list it at any of the sites I went to, so I made something up. If there actually is a last name for him, then someone tell me. And, yeah, I changed him slightly for this little alternate reality. ^.^ You'll like it, though.

Buffy heard her friends enter the house, but didn't lift her head. Having a Scooby meeting here instead of the Magick Box? As long as it wasn't another of their stupid interventions. She rolled her eyes and burrowed further under the covers just in case. She paused as she heard a new voice among them. Who? She almost started to sit up, but she could hear them coming up the stairs and heading towards her room. She didn't like the looks of this so she started to slip out of the bed, sluggish from weeks of bed confinement.

She was halfway to the bathroom to escape when the door opened to show Spike frowning at her, knowing exactly what she had been up to.

"An' where do you think you're goin'?" he asked as he stalked across the room towards her. He was partly glad to see her out of bed under her own power, but annoyed that she had tried to flee her mate and friends. Mostly that she would flee him.

"Bathroom," she pointed and nodded.

"You're a vampire an' you haven' been eatin' human food for the baby like you should," he pulled her out of the bathroom after debunking her excuse. "An' anyways, I got somethin' important t' tell you."

"Okay, okay... let me get a shower and get dressed, then you can tell me while you force feed me." She said tiredly and waved him away, grumbling under her breat. Might as well give in so they didn't gang up on her and she was somewhat curious as to who the new person was.

He sighed but nodded, turning to leave. He ushered the other downstairs then went into the kitchen to see what he could throw together while Buffy was willing to eat. He really hoped learning that they had a break with finding the name of the hellgod would snap Buffy further out of this funk. He was surprised she had even agreed to get out of bed and come eat. He started making a sandwich then glanced up as Marie walked into the room.

"Did you... are you hungry?" he asked, motioning to the sandwich fixings.

"A little, but don't go to any trouble for me," she waved a hand and leaned against the counter.

"No trouble," he took out a couple more slices of bread and began making another sandwich. "So where were you plannin' on stayin' while you were here?" He arched a brow at her over his shoulder.

"Uh... guess with whoever would take me in..."

"Well, I'm sure Buffy won' mind you takin' her old room. Also, got some of her old clothes in there that you can wear since I didn' see a suitcase."

"Thank you," she smiled brightly and took the sandwich he handed her. She took a bite and turned to head out of the kitchen, but Spike stopped her with a hand on her shoulder.

"So... is Buffy still around in your time?" he asked in a choked voice. "Please, it's killin' me t' know."

"I..." her eyes got wide, fearful. She bit her lip and her chin quivered slightly, unsure what to do.

He sighed and released her, running his hand through his hair. "Sorry. I'm jus' so worried... She hasn' even been thinkin' t' feed the baby recently." His fingers twitched for a cigarette, the cravings stronger the more stressed he got. "Guess it'd be just as pointless t' ask you if our daughter is okay..."

She smiled softly. "Well, if I do what I came here to do, then they'll both be just fine."

He tilted his head. "An' there was somethin' else I wanted t' ask... how exactly are you connected t' the rest of us? You're obviously younger than the rest of us even now."

"I..." she chewed her bottom lip thoughtfully as she decided what to tell him. "I'm the current slayer in my time and Giles becomes my Watcher. This mission comes right after my eighteenth birthday and is sort of my right-of-passage test or whatever." She shrugged.

"A slayer?" He studied her again. He would have asked more, but Buffy finally entered the kitchen all shower fresh and dressed in clean clothes. He kissed her briefly and handed her the sandwich he made for her. "Mmm... you smell nice, pet. Now eat up an' get that belly all full so our itty bitty doesn' go hungry anymore."

"Thank you," she said softly and gave a small smile. She knew she had treated him so horribly over the past month or so since her mother died, and still he was there being so kind to her and taking care of her so lovingly. It made her feel like such a jerk. She needed to find a way to show her appreciation later. Do something special for him in return.

Marie was watching the interaction with interest, sitting down at the table.

Buffy kept tugging at her camisole as it kept riding up over her slightly rounded tummy. She finally gave up after a few tries and sat down at the table as well to eat her sandwich. "So why are the Scoobies doing their research here instead of at the store? It wasn't ransacked again, was it? And who's this who keeps staring at me... did I hear the word slayer before I walked in?" She looked between them confused.

There was already one more slayer than there should be. She was never sure if there would be another called if one of them died, or if the council would wait for both of them to die to go back to having one slayer as it had always been. Had something happened to Faith? Then she realized how dense she was. Maybe it was because SHE herself had died, no matter if she continued to slay as a mystical super vamp that she seemed to be.

Spike put the food away, hiding his joyous expression. Overjoyed to see his mate acting about like her old self. This had to be a good sign, right? She had snapped out of it and they could get back on with protecting their baby and being a happily mated couple. He had missed his little golden slayer while stuck with the morose lump that had been living upstairs for the last month.

"This is the news I mentioned upstairs, luv." He came over to set a glass of juice in front of both of them, then sitting beside Buffy with his hand curled around the nape of her neck affectionately. "This's Marie. Showed up at the Magick Box while we were havin' our usual meetin'. Had some news for us, good news, too." When she looked at him with even greater curiosity he continued, "Says she's from the future an' here t' help. Finally gave us a big break in protectin' the lil bit."

"Really?" She set down her sandwich and blinked widely at Marie. "The future? Even with all the weird stuff here, that's a first for me. And so, what, you're the future slayer then?"

"Yeah, pretty much." Marie nodded. "Giles's my Watcher and Willow was the one who did the sending back. She's quite the talented witch. This was sort of my coming of age trial."

"Better than being drugged and locked in a house with vampires." Buffy muttered sourly and finished her juice. "And so... what is this big break then? Seems to me she'd be able to tell us everything we needed to know to stop this hellgod now. Make it really simple."

"She gave us a name. A name to research, which is what the others are doin'." Spike took her glass and went to refill it.

"That's all??"

"Buffy... pet... you know she can' tell us everythin'... it would change her future. Doesn' matter much t' us, but then we would be sendin' her back t' a different place." He looked over at Marie, an apology in his eyes for forgetting that moments before.

The vampiress was pouting, though. "Can't she tell us ANYTHING else?" she whined.

"I'll decide when the time comes, that's all I can promise. But for now, the name at least gets you started on learning about her for yourselves, as it should be." Marie smiled apologetically. She got up to put her glass away then stretched, giving an exhausted yawn.

Spike looked between them then back to Buffy. "Uh, luv... I told her it'd be okay for her t' take your old room an' use some of your old clothes. She ain' got anythin' of her own an' she's in a strange place all alone. It's okay, right?"

"Sure," Buffy was amused that he was actually worried that she would be mad at him for offering help to the girl. Moreover, she was amused that he was actually worried about someone... besides her... for once. Shows that he had come a long way from his days as the self-proclaimed "Big Bad." Oh... he still had his moments, but she wouldn't want a big goody-two-shoes... that was way yucky and boring. "But maybe we could later take her shopping for her own clothes and stuff. That stuff is rather old and might not be her style." She motioned to the obvious discrepancy in their tastes. "I mean, she might enjoy some of my more clubby wear, like the leather pants, but that's about it."

"Do you know if you'll be stayin' long?" Spike looked over at Marie again.

"A few months at least, I think..." She bit her lip and shrugged. "Don' know for sure." She smiled, "But shopping with you would be great. We can probably get you some cool maternity clothes, not the big clown tent stuff." She chuckled and motioned at the tiny bulge poking out from under the older slayer's shirt. "But, it has been a very long day for me so I am going to go crash." She waved and disappeared up the stairs.

Spike watched her go then came over to take his mate into his arms. "It's really okay with you, slayer? She can help on patrol, too. With you gettin' more an' more pregnant, worried 'bout you gettin' hurt. I can keep makin' sure you're full of vamp blood." He stroked her hair. "She really seemed t' perk at the idea of you takin' her shoppin'. Think you two are friends or somethin' in her time? You as another slayer take her under your wing, the way you tried t' with Faith if she hadn' gone bad?"

"It's really okay. She seems nice, and anyone who wants to help protect my baby is just great in my book." She kissed him softly. "Maybe. I already feel all 'wingy' with her." She chuckled.

She bit her lip and glanced down at his chest, avoiding his eyes. "I'm sorry... about this whole past month and the way I've been acting and treating you. I'll make it all up to you. You've been so patient and kind. I really don't deserve you. I probably said this before, but its me who's beneath you, I think. Not the other way around like I said to hurt you that one night. I'm surprised you didn't just take advantage to get revenge on me right afterwards when I was vulnerable to any punishment you could have dished out. Didn't deserve it then and don't deserve it now." She sighed and blinked away the tears that formed.

He hooked a finger under her chin and tilted her face up, kissing away the tears from the corners of her eyes. "Nonsense. Deserve it all cause I love you. Completely. You're my mate an' I wouldn' have it any other way. Your mother died an' you were entitled t' your grief. I wouldn' have been so pushy 'bout you snappin' out of it if I hadn' been worried about our itty bitty."

"You... you don't think I did any damage with all that, do you?" Her brows furrowed in worry.

"She's jus' fine. Can sense her, an' you can too if you try concentratin'." He kissed the tip of her nose.

"We so gotta come up with a name so we stop talking about her like a cocker spaniel..."

He chuckled. "You were the one with the baby names book, pet. Did you find anythin' you liked?"

"Well..." she looked up thoughtfully as she tried to remember the names that had struck her fancy. "There were a few... Isabelle... Jocelyn... Gabrielle..."

"Mmm... my vote is for Jocelyn. Is a right pretty name."

"Jocelyn it is. For now, at least, in case we come across another name we like before she's born. And, we need to think of a middle name... though," she nodded towards the stairs with a smile. "Thinking of Jocelyn Marie for the girl who is probably going to be the one to thank for saving us." She looked down and ran her hand over her belly. "Jocelyn Marie Summers... you like that, sweetie?"

Spike pouted slightly. "Summers... why-"

He was cut off by a squawk of surprise from Buffy. "Oh my god, I felt her. She moved... I think she kicked... she must like the name!" She looked up at him with wide eyes and took his hand, putting it over her stomach. "See!"

His pout melted into awe. "My precious itty bitty... has a kick on her like her mum." His eyes met Buffy's and they looked at each other for a moment. "Prob'ly gonna be so beautiful like her mum... right heartbreaker."

She blushed and ducked her head. "Spike..."

He cupped her face in his hands, lifting it so he could kiss her deeply. He poured all the love he felt for her into it.

She licked her lips after they broke the kiss and glanced up at him. "I should... after all that happened... go to the doctor to really make sure Jocelyn is okay. I haven't had a check up in a good while because of... yeah. I'll make an appointment so you don't have to worry. I'll get back to taking better care of our baby girl."

He kissed her again. "An' yourself. You come first far as I'm concerned."

She rolled her eyes at him with a soft smile then turned. "We should go see if finding out a name has helped on the research front. Then you can show me this nursery you keep raving about."

*****

The next day, Marie walked with Buffy to the hospital for her exam. She had found something suitable among Buffy's old clothes, so now she bounced along besides Buffy in black jeans, a dark violet halter, and a pair of Buffy's boots. Buffy let her wear the boots cause they looked better than Marie's combat boots and Buffy was starting to find it awkward walking in heels. She figured it was the baby starting to throw her body's balance off a bit with the added weight in the front... and probably partly from the ankle swelling that was starting. 'Gawd, how did pregnant women survive?' she sighed to herself.

"You really didn't have to come along," she glanced at Marie as she signed in at the front desk. "I mean, I'm not so pregnant I can't go places on my own, no matter what Spike would have you believe. Spike didn't put you up to this, did he?"

"No," Marie rolled her eyes and tossed her ponytail back over her shoulder. "I wanted to come along and spend time with you, and stuff. Plus, I was way curious to see what the baby looks like on that little machine thingy. And you did promise you would eventually do the shopping thing with me."

"Yes, I did," Buffy gave her a smile and went to sit down. Maybe Spike was right about them being close or something in the future. What with her beaming every time Buffy showed her any attention and jumping at the chance to spend time with the elder slayer, like when Buffy had suggested taking her shopping the night before. Maybe she got to have with Marie what she didn't get to have with Faith. What she thought she was on the road to getting when Faith suddenly went wonky in the head.

It wasn't like being in a club or being part of a religion or ethnic group, there wasn't other people for her to relate with when there was usually only one slayer in all the world. The thing with Faith being called being a fluke because of a technicality. Still made her wander why this girl was called in the future, Faith dies? Or... her? She shook her head knowing she couldn't ask just as Spike had explained the night before.

Her mind wandered a bit as she sat in the waiting room. Buffy hadn't seen Angel in awhile. She wasn't sure why her mind suddenly went there, but it did. Though, really, it was hard to keep tabs on people when you confine yourself to your bed. She had seen him at the funeral, though, but before then he hadn't been around much either. She would just have to remember to ask Spike about this later.

A nurse poked her head out from the back and called her name.

She got up and glanced back at Marie. "I guess there shouldn't be any trouble with you coming back there. You said you wanted to see the baby on the little monitor thing."

Marie beamed and jumped up to follow her. They were led to a room and Buffy waved the nurse away when she went to take Buffy's vitals, earning the slayer a harried look. Buffy ignored it and sat on the exam table, swinging her legs as she waited.

A young male doctor walked in some time later and smiled at them. He held out his hand to Buffy, "I'm Dr. Ben Hardy. Is this your first visit? We didn't have any prior records for you."

"Yes, first time since I've become pregnant. Before then, I didn't get sick much and I've only been in Sunnydale a few years," she shrugged.

"The nurse informs me that you also refused t let her take your vitals. You do understand that does help me make sure nothing is wrong with you or the baby?" He tapped the folder and lifted a brow at her.

"I understand, but there's special circumstances. I'll settle for you just getting the baby's vitals and doing that funny picture thing." She smiled up at the doctor sweetly and wondered if she was able to do the thrall thing too if she needed to. "I'll sign something if this is an issue of liability and you're afraid I'll sue later..."

"No need as long as you understand the risk," He smiled and waved it away as he wheeled over the ultrasound machine. He put the goo on her belly then got the little hand held device. She shivered as he rolled it over her sensitive skin. After a minute or two, he pointed at the screen. "There you go. Looks like you've got yourself a little girl."

"Oh, I was hoping for one," she said, not wanting to let on she already knew and have him think she was any weirder. "So tiny..." she breathed softly.

"Where?" Marie demanded and crowded close.

Ben pointed at the little blob on the screen. "There she is. She seems to be doing rather well despite whatever special circumstances you're not telling me about."

"The father will be glad to hear that. He's very much the worrier," Buffy chuckled.

"All I see is a blob!" Marie exclaimed in exasperation.

The other two chuckled then Ben outlined the baby with his finger, this time telling her what end was what. "Next time we might could use the new 3D machine if you like. A little pricy but..." He glanced at Buffy as he started putting things away. "Today you'll have a picture to take back to that worrying father."

"That would be awesome and money is not an issue. I can't wait to see her in 3D," the elder slayer grinned as she pulled her shirt back down.

"Do they look like how they will when they're born with that 3D machine?" Marie asked curiously.

"Somewhat," the doctor nodded. "I'll be back in a moment with that picture."

Buffy hopped off the table and straightened her clothes, glancing at the younger blonde. "Why all the interest? Are you far enough in the future that you're a friend of Jocelyn or maybe you baby-sit her for us?"

"Yeah, we're friends. Get along like sisters even," Marie nodded.

"I'm sure she appreciates you coming here to save her life then."

"I know she does."

Ben came back with a prescription for some prenatal vitamins and the ultrasound photo. Buffy thanked him again and left with Marie in tow.

*****

Buffy walked into the house later carrying a pizza box and some bags with Marie slipping in behind her carrying even more large shopping bags. The younger slayer jogged upstairs immediately to put away her new stuff while Buffy wondered where Spike was. She put the pizza down on the kitchen counter and took out a slice to munch on as she went back towards the living room.

Her slayer senses tingled moments before Spike hurried in. He paused and smiled at her, eyes taking her in, before coming over to her to slide an arm around him.

"How'd it go, luv?" he asked, nuzzling her hair.

"Great, and got Jocelyn's first picture for you to fawn over and probably frame." She chuckled and pulled the picture out of her pocket to show him. "There's our beautiful, healthy baby girl."

"Looks like a bunch of blobs t' me," he grumbled, turning the picture this way and that.

She rolled her eyes and took the picture back so she could outline the form with her finger for him. "You and Marie... good grief..."

"Speakin' of... did you get anythin' else out of her while you were out with her?" He sat her down and put the picture on the mantle until he could actually get it framed. He went to get her something to drink while she answered.

"Said she's Jocelyn's friend. Really close. Also stays with us in the future, as well. I also think you might be right about us possibly being close in the future," she nodded then tilted her head. "And where have you been?"

"Visitin' my lovin' grandfather," he smirked and handed her a glass of juice, kissing her cheek as he sat beside her.

"Oh? I just realized earlier while at the doctor's office that I hadn't seen him in months except for the funeral... Was starting to wonder if he had went back to Los Angeles..." she sipped at the juice then set it aside. "So he's still in town?"

"Yup, an' still has the three tramps pawin' all over him constantly." He reached for her when he noticed her face darken at the mention of the brides. He pulled her into his lap. "I know... but it's also the reason he says he can' get out much. Can' get them off him for more than two seconds. An' he was very lucky t' make it t' the funeral without draggin' them along... which would have been very bad..."

She frowned intensely, obviously agreeing that it would have been very bad if the three whores would have shown up at her mother's funeral. She really didn't even like the idea that Angel was holed up with them somewhere all these months with them all over him all the time. Not having feelings for him, of course. She only had eyes for the blonde vampire who's arms were cradling her. The imagery just unsettled her.

Spike lifted a hand to smooth the frown lines from her forehead. "Don' worry, pet. Wouldn' let them anywhere near you. Would stake them if you asked me t'... even if it meant stakin' the big poofter, too..." He smirked, obviously liking the last idea and not ashamed to show it.

That finally brought a small smile to her face. "Oh, you'd miss him if he was actually gone..." she admonished and brushed a kiss along his jaw. She curled an arm around his shoulders as she leaned against him, letting fingers play in the curls at the nape of his neck. "Why'd you go to seem him anyways if you hate him so much?"

"Was actually wonderin' the same thing you were. Went t' see if he was still around an' tryin' t' help... though not sure what help he can be while in the slut pile..." he growled, holding her protectively. "But you have plenty of people beside him who really are tryin' t' help. Your friends an' watcher an' Marie... an' most 'specially, me. Your lovin' mate."

She smiled, leaning in to kiss him but he broke away to look towards the stairs where another little blonde slayer was watching them with interest. He arched a brow and Marie blushed at being caught spying. Buffy turned to follow Spike's gaze and blushed as well. She pushed herself out of his lap and went over to the other girl. "Um, don't worry... we'll try to keep from the public pawing in the future while you're living with us." She led her to the kitchen to eat the pizza before it got cold.

"That's okay." Marie bit her lip. "You two obviously love each other very much and I didn't mean to spy... but it was so nice to see you two together like that. Don't change because I'm here... I'll be less creepy-starey in the future."

"No no..." Buffy handed her a plate piled with pizza. "I mean, we'll have to learn to restrain ourselves sooner or later as Jocelyn gets older and stuff." She shrugged, "Though, just now, wasn't really doing much. Only kissing... but better I get caught doing that than anything else." She chuckled then stopped. "Oh god, I just realized we should have Willow do a silencing spell on our room or something..."

"I can do it," the younger blonde smiled brightly. "Willow's been teaching me a lot." She turned and bounced upstairs with her pizza.

Spike passed her as he walked into the kitchen. He leaned a hip against the island and pulled Buffy towards him, purring softly. "Seems we got a witchy slayer on hand for the next few months. That should be a help, luv." He nuzzled her neck and stroke his marks with his tongue slowly, delighting in the shiver of pleasure it caused in her body. "As soon as she has that spell up, we should go test it out."

"Spike..." she rolled her eyes and swatted at him. "One, didn't I just say we needed to be more careful with the public groping? Two, how could you be wanting to get all humpy on this...?" She motioned down at her rounded belly.

"Always want you," he nipped at the marks lightly, sending another shudder through her. "An' even more delicious now, with my baby growin' in you. Couldn' get anymore sexy t' me. Mother of my child. Beautiful goddess givin' life t' the itty bitty..." he kept murmuring endearments into her neck.

Buffy blushed and teased him lightly, "You are an odd little man..." She smiled up at him when he lifted his head to give a mock pout. "But I already knew that and fell in love with you anyways." Her brows crinkled slightly, "But won't the baby see your thing coming at it?"

~Chapter Nine~

AN: LoL, I did ask my mom for help with some stuff about pregnant women, though, I do know for the most part. If I do get something wrong, bare with the silly virgin girl here and feel free to leave me a friendly note. Cause yeah, my mom hasn't had a baby since my baby sister who is about to turn 20 and my dad is a doctor, but you know... he's a GUY so still not the bestest source of info except for the technical stuff like when they came out with the 3d sonogram machine, hehe

The house was quiet as Buffy headed to the closet to pull on a pair of jeans with an elastic waist, good for her growing tummy. She then pulled on one of her new tunic tops, also good for her round tummy. She wasn't big enough for the circus tent clothes. She sat down to put her shoes on, noting that she was already feeling a bit of pressure when she tried to bend over... she wondered if that meant she was going to have to start asking Spike to shave her legs. She was so not giving the baby rug burn when he was born and not to mention all the people that would be looking down there. She rolled her eyes and got up, heading downstairs to where Marie was waiting for the door for her.

The younger slayer had apparently her own style for patrolling from Buffy's just-make-sure-its-comfortable-and-you-can-move philosophy. She looked like that Tomb Raider chick or something. She had on short black shorts and a dark blue sleeveless shirt with dark coloured sneakers. Her hair was pulled back into a tight ponytail and all her piercings were taken out. She had done something with an utility belt so that it now held a couple stakes along with a pouch for holy water. Earlier. Marie had come asking about a dagger, but Buffy had just waved it away and told her she normally didn't need one on patrol.

Who was this girl's watcher before Giles, Rambo? She didn't think Giles would turn her into commando Barbie like this... he had tried with Buffy for a bit, but had eventually given up... and that far in the future she figured the British man would have mellowed even more.

Buffy eyed her then motioned for the door. "Let's get going. There's a little errand I want to run while we're out... I know of a nest of vamps that we can take care of."

"Sounds good to me... but are you sure we should be taking on too much with you... you know?" Marie arched a worried brow as she followed the other girl out the door. "And speaking of, maybe you should take a jacket... Giles keeps reminding you that you need to keep warm for the baby since vampires don't have body heat."

"It's fine. It's not a big nest, and anyways... I can still fight... not THAT far along." Buffy rolled her eyes and took the jacket she was handed. "And yes, mother, I'll wear a jacket." She shrugged into it and turned to lead the way, missing the funny look on Marie's face.

The two slayers made their way across town, chatting lightly here and there. Buffy hoped that the business Spike was dealing with would keep him away long enough to keep him from spoiling her plans. He wouldn't like that she was out patrolling in the first place, even if it was with Marie. And, he definitely wasn't going to like the plan she had in mind for where she was taking Marie. This so called nest of vampires she wanted to take out. She wasn't even sure Marie would agree to go through with it once they got there.

They arrived at the mansion and sure enough, Marie was beginning to look at Buffy suspiciously.

"This place looks familiar," the younger slayer commented. She reached for one of her stakes then glanced over at Buffy. "What do you know about this place... do you know about how many vamps are gonna be in there?"

"Four, though-" she was cut off by a mental prodding she felt over the link with her mate. She sighed. Busted.

His voice came next, curious and concerned. //Where are you, pet? Why aren' you at home restin' like you should be?//

//I'm barely halfway through this pregnancy. I don't need to be resting and I can go out like a normal person, thank you very much.// She snapped back in annoyance. //I finally stop hiding in bed and you want to send me right back?? What is wrong with you?//

//Elizabeth Ann...// He said patiently. //Where are you?//

She grumbled. //I'm out patrolling with Marie. I'll be home when I'm good and ready.//

//She can handle it on her own, luv. Please come home.//

//No.//

//Come home or I'm comin' after you...//

//I'm not scared of you... you... you big poof!// She shot back then quickly shut down the claim, knowing she didn't have long now. Spike had warned her cutting off the link would make them sick. Not to mention she was sure he was going to run out of the house and come looking for her. She looked over at Marie. "We need to hurry before they run off, sensing us near their nest."

Marie nodded and followed her towards the side door, giving her a suspicious look after watching the emotions that had raced across the elder slayer's face when she had suddenly cut off from what she had been saying. She knew enough about vampires to know Buffy had most likely been communicating with Spike over their claim. She was curious as to what had went on, though, but sudden urgency in Buffy along with the mood swing... aside from her usual mood swings brought on by her hormones.

They crept into the mansion and down the hall silently, Buffy leading the way as she seemed to know her way around. This made Marie even more curious about Buffy's plans.

The two came to a study and Buffy motioned Marie back for a moment then went to peer around the corner. She frowned and Marie moved to look as well finally. Angel was sitting in a large chair reading, or at least trying to read as the three vampiresses that formerly belonged to Dracula crowded close. Anichka was stretched over the arm of the chair to rub against him like a large cat while Kriszta's hand was venturing up his thigh dangerously high. Angel growled when it got too high and shoved them both away again.

Marie pulled Buffy back and looked up at her with wide eyes. "You want to slay Angel?" She hissed softly.

"No.. I began to say we would only be slaying three of the four, but I tuned out. I'm pretty sure he'll help us get those demon whores..." Buffy turned with a frown to head into the study but when she turned around she ran into a solid chest. She looked up slowly, already knowing who it was before green eyes encountered blue.

"Buffy..." Spike's jaw clenched. "Unblock the soddin' claim now."

She did so immediately. "Spike, please don't stop me. I need to do this. I'm sorry I shut off the claim, but I didn't want you getting in the way. I'll make it up to you later, but please don't stop me." She grabbed at the edges of his duster and looked up at him pleadingly.

"Pet, I sympathize, I do, but you can' go chargin' in there in your condition," he shook his head and reached out to touch her cheek.

She stepped back away from his hand and growled at them both, releasing his duster. "If either of you tells me I can't do something because I'm pregnant or uses that friggin' phrase 'in your condition' on more time I'm going to crack your skulls together!" She glared between them.

Marie took a frightened step back, paling at the outburst, but Spike held his ground. He growled right back and grabbed her by the arm, jerking her back to him.

"That's my lil' bit growin' in you, too!" He ground out, eyes flashing gold. "I won' have you endangerin' my daughter's life with your foolishness. An' don' you growl at her either." He motioned towards the young slayer watching them both with nervous wide eyes. "She's jus concerned 'bout you an' tryin' t' help."

"You can't stop me!" She shouted at him and jerked her arm free, spinning to head towards the study with determination.

Angel stepped out of the room before she got there and she came to a halt. "If you were hoping for stealth, all that bickering blew your cover."

"I hope you're not planning on trying to stop me, too." She put her hands on her hips and tilted her head with a sigh.

"I'll help you if you really want to go through with it, but I don't want you just charging in, either. Let us help. Just don't run half-cocked into a dangerous situation in an attempt to prove yourself to us. We all know you're a good fighter and can still fight, but we don't want you to harm yourself or the baby." He took a step forward and would have put a hand on her shoulder if there hadn't been a growl from the irate vampire behind her.

Buffy rolled her eyes and looked away, lip poking out in a small pout. "You're all against me."

"No. Buffy... I said I'd help you if you let me." He looked down at her with concern creasing his forehead.

"You let them run off, though," she whined, stepping forward to motion into the empty study.

"I'm sorry. When they heard you out here coming to kill them, they got agitated then fled when I told them I wouldn't protect them and would actually be helping you stake them. They may not be back because of the, understandably." He sighed. "But I promise to help you find them, unless they leave town completely."

Her lips pressed together and she turned to stalk down the hall towards the front door. She was pissed that her plans had been ruined. Marie looked up at the two vampires worriedly after watching the elder slayer stomp off. The whole situation made her very uneasy and she wasn't sure exactly where to turn to for comfort in this time.

Spike looked down at her and gave her an understanding smile. "It's just the hormones, punky." He used his new nickname for her to bring a smile to her face. "She's a bit moody t' begin with an' with her bein' pregnant, it's goin' t' be even worse. Run along after her t' make sure she doesn' get int' anymore trouble. It's okay. She'll cool off an' won' maim you."

"Okay," she nodded with a grin then turned to head off. She waved over her shoulder, "See you back at the house."

Marie jogged out of the mansion. She figured Buffy had forgotten about patrolling  and was heading back home so she started hurrying in that direction to catch up with the other slayer. The younger girl was still a bit wary of intruding on Buffy's mood even after Spike's pep talk. The outburst and threat had shaken her since she looked up to Buffy so much. Buffy wouldn't really hurt her, would she? Even in a fit of pique? It amazed her how Spike and Buffy could be so similar, yet so different to the way they were in her time.

She eventually caught up to Buffy. "Hey, wait up." She called to get attention. "So... patrol's off, huh?"

"Yeah, patrol's off," Buffy gave her an annoyed look.

"Why don't we go get something to eat... a pizza and some ice cream?" Marie looked at her hopefully, so eager to help. "Comfort food. It'll make you feel better."

Buffy sighed and ran her hand over her round tummy. "I guess that sounds nice," she looked down at her stomach for a moment before beginning to head towards main street with the other girl. "I'm a horrible mate, aren't I?" She bit her lip.

"Huh?" Marie looked up from her feet, startled by the sudden comment. "What are you talking about?"

"I treat Spike horribly. He's so nice and patient and caring with me and I throw it back in his face." Her chin started to quiver as her eyes watered. "I don't deserve such a good mate. He's going to be a great father and I'm going to screw the child up."

"Oh, nonsense! You're a great mother! Please don't cry, B-buffy!" She looked around, unsure what to do with a crying pregnant lady on her hands. She motioned down the street. "Let's get you some ice cream and head home. Spike will meet us at the house and you can talk to him. He loves you. He doesn't think you're a horrible mate or a bad mother."

Buffy sniffled and wiped at her face with the back of her hand. "I want lots of peanut butter fudge..."

"We'll get you lots of peanut butter fudge." Marie smiled and let out a relieved breath. She hoped these mood swings didn't get any worse or she would be too exhausted to stop Glory.

They turned to go, Buffy still sniffling a bit and Marie rubbing her back awkwardly. They got some ice cream then started back towards home, Buffy eager to get back to apologize to Spike. She had already started planning her make-up for being so difficult the other day when she apologized to Spike for hiding in bed for so long. Her plans needed to be even better now. That and she would have to put them into action soon, eager to see the look on Spike's face.

Both slayers froze halfway home as they sensed a vampire. Buffy knew it wasn't Spike or Angel. Spike was at home and Angel would probably be off brooding after her outburst or off already searching for the brides. What vampire would be stupid enough to try to get the jump on a slayer, not to mention TWO slayers??

Marie moved closer to Buffy and glanced around. "I can handle this. You should try to get home."

"Didn't I already give you the speech about telling me what to do?" Buffy frowned at her.

"At least do a mental call to Spike to tell him we ran into some trouble. Please."

"Fine... just so you stop being so annoying. We'll probably have the thing dusted before he gets here, though." She sighed then sent out //We're on our way home, Spike. A vampire's tracking us, though, and Marie is worried. Wanted me to tell you...//

//I'll be on my way just in case.//

She rolled her eyes and then looked around. "Come out, come out, wherever you are..." she called out boredly.

"Always were a bit lame with the banter thing, weren't you?" Riley sniggered as she stepped out into the road ahead of them. "And who's this? Vampire whore in training?" He looked the younger slayer over appraisingly.

Marie glared at him. "I'm a slayer, stupid. I thought you vampires could sense that."

"He's just a fledge, though. Don't expect much from him," Buffy told Marie, not taking her eyes off Riley. "I'm pretty sure he's dust in your time, so I'll explain. He's my ex, Riley. He was part of this army thing that pumped him up with lots of steroidy stuff, so you know his dick is small. So he's pissed that he wasn't big enough for me and that I chose Spike over him. He does the immature name calling thing to compensate for his insecurities and all that... not to mention its a bit hypocritical to call me a vamp whore when he's the one who was going around letting skank vamps bite him for cheap thrills."

"Ahh... I think I've heard of him..." Marie smirked. "He's the one who was threatened by the fact that you were such a badass, fighting his battles for him and could easily kick his ass."

Riley was growling and finally vamped, snarling at them both.

"And the military does like their soldiers brainless, don't they? Easier to control that way and boy is a very good soldier. Picking a fight with two slayers where he is definitely going to get his ass kicked."

"That's okay. I got my own back-up," he nodded to the side where Graham and Forrest now stepped out, fully vamped. "Just to even things up."

//Okay, Spike, maybe we really do have some real trouble here. Apparently Riley has made minions of his commando buddies to help take us down.// Buffy sent worriedly.

//Don' worry, luv. I'm almost there.// He replied and did his best to soothe her over the link.

Moments later, he appeared behind Buffy and pulled her close protectively. He pressed a kiss to her temple briefly before turning gold eyes towards the soldiers. He vamped and let out a low warning growl.

"Most vampires know better than t' mess with another bloke's mate," he warned. "Claims aren' taken lightly."

Riley snorted. "I don't care about your whore. I don't want her after she has your stank all over her." He ignored the louder growl from the girl in question's mate. "But that child must be destroyed. The child of two vampires is surely the sign of an apocalypse. I can't let you destroy humanity with that creature."

"Hey! You shut up!" Marie scowled at Riley. "Do you hear the crazy shit coming out of your ugly mouth? I mean really. I know this is the demon speaking, but what sort of defective demon did YOU get?"

Spike glanced at Marie, studying her for a second before looking towards the three fledglings again. "She's right. You've obviously crossed the line, mate. Our child isn' goin' t' bring on some apocalypse. She was given t' us as a gift an' is completely innocent. You're just jealous an' off your bloody rocker. If you don' use what sense you got left an' leave, you're goin' t' get you an' your friends dusted."

"I can't just let that abomination be born," Riley shook his head and took a step forward.

Buffy stepped away from Spike, glaring up at Riley. "How dare you bring an innocent child into this. This has nothing to do with my baby, you're just making excuses. You just hate that I chose Spike over you and am having with him what you could never have with me. I realized I'm having with him the normal stuff that I wanted that blindly led me to date you. I'm married-somewhat, I'm pregnant, and I've got a lovely house. Most of all I got love. You got two buddies who share a brain cell between them." She smirked and motioned between them, "Do you all do the butt monkey thing to amuse yourselves since you can't get a nice girl to-"

She didn't get to finish the barb as suddenly she had an angry vampire barreling at her, knocking her off her feet. It was a good thing she no longer needed to breath as the air was knocked from her lungs. She looked up at Riley and her eyes flared blue as she went to bring up her legs to kick at him.

Spike and Marie rushed forward to help, but the other two vampires intercepted them. Spike grappled with Graham, a flurry of punches and twirls interspersed with kicks. Too bad there was no one to appreciate the skilled fighting.

Marie was pinned to a light post, Forrest lifting her up by her neck. She struggled and clawed at his arm with little grunts, then brought her foot up to kick him in the side of the head. He grunted and nearly dropped her, but straightened with a snarl to raise her higher as she struggled. She brought up her legs again and wrapped them around his head, squeezing with her thighs. She wasn't strong enough or quite in the right position to break his neck like that, but it did annoy him enough that he tossed her into the lawn of the house behind them. She landed hard on her arm and heard a pop, grimacing in pain as she went to sit up.

Meanwhile, Riley finally pinned Buffy's legs with his own while grasping her wrists in one of his large hands to stretch them above her head. She spit up into his face when he leaned close, which earned her a hard smack across the face. Her lip split and she whimpered slightly at the pain, but forgot about it when once again his attention turned to her stomach.

"I'm sorry about this, Buffy. I really am. But, I'm not crazy and your child must be stopped. The people at the initiative found a prophecy talking about the child of vampires and how its birth lead to an apocalyptic event. I understand how it must be so hard to give up your child, but you used to care about saving the world. In the long run you'll realize this was for the best." He lifted his hand with purpose.

Marie looked past Forrest as he lifted her again, seeing what Riley was about to do. She suddenly struggled wildly and started screaming loudly. It even startled Forrest into pausing.

It also got Spike's attention who glanced first at Marie then at Buffy. He growled and tossed Graham into the hood of a car, impaling the vampire on the antenna so he turned to dust. Spike was already running towards Buffy and shoving Riley off his mate just as he was swiping at Buffy, leaving slashes across her stomach but at least the baby was intact. The two vampire rolled around on the ground, snarling and clawing like animals angrily while Buffy laid there taking an unneeded breath of relief.

Marie went limp with relief as well, but was reminded of her predicament by a fist to the face. She groaned and spit out blood from her cut lip right into the vampire's face. "Hey, asshole, didn't your mother ever tell you not to hit a girl?"

"Nope," he drove his fist into her stomach then tossed her to the ground where he kicked her in the ribs.

She groaned and started crawling away. She had lost her little belt of goodies during the fight and she needed to find something quickly, not to mention she would have to fight him off and stake him one armed. Oh god she was screwed. Hopefully, Buffy would get off her ass or Spike would make quick work of Riley so he could come save her ass next.

There was a fallen branch a couple yards in front of her and she tried to hurry over to get it. Forrest came up behind her, though, and kicked her again then stomped on her back. Her broken arm was pinned under her and she shrieked in pain at the pressure he was applying to it. Black spots started to swim in her vision as his foot pressed more. He leaned down near her face and smirked, grabbing her hair to yank her head back painfully before bringing his fist across her jaw.

"Daddy..." she whimpered softly as she started to lose consciousness from all the pain, even as she suddenly felt Forrest wrenched away.

Spike sighed and looked between the two blonde slayers after the dust that had been Forrest settled to the ground. Buffy was sitting up gingerly and looking down at her wounds to see how bad they were. She looked towards him and gave him a reassuring smile then looked down to where Marie laid by his feet.

"Is she okay?" She asked.

"Yeah, just passed out." He nodded and tilted his head. "Can you get up... not too bad is it, pet?"

"I'm good. It's not deep... that's why it's bleeding so much. Going to need to feed a good bit to replace it all, but it's already starting to heal." She got to her feet slowly then made her way over to him. "Well... that's one threat gone, at least..." She looked up at him with a small smile.

"Let's get her home an' I'll feed so you can feed off me." He kissed her slowly, so glad to have her whole. "Call Red an' Glinda on the way so they can come do some healin' voodoo for her."

He bent to scoop up Marie, shifting her when she groaned in pain from him jarring her broken arm. "She seems t' have a broken arm, though..." He looked up at Buffy with concern. "We can' take her t' the hospital, can we? She's... they'll ask questions. Should we call your Watcher?"

"Yeah, I'll call Giles then Willow. He'll surely be able to think of something." She pulled out her cell phone, glancing towards Spike as she wondered about his reaction. Had he come to like this girl so much in such a short time? She wasn't worried. She knew he wasn't attracted to the younger girl or anything. But, still...

*****

Marie woke up slowly and looked around at the white, sterile room and instantly knew where she was. She had been in one enough times in her young life. Her head rolled to the side and she saw some nice smelling herbs on her pillow. Willow was here. She smiled and tried to sit up, groaning when she forgot and tried to use her broken arm. The groan brought the others heading in when they realized she was awake.

"You took quite a beating," Giles said and looked her over.

"I took my attention off him and he took advantage of it. I'm so stupid. You taught me better than that..." she pouted and looked down.

Buffy reached out and touched her shoulder. "We all have off days." She had allowed Dr. Hardy to wrapped her stomach when he had happened to spot her in the hall. He already thought she was strange enough, but now... She sighed inwardly and shoved that thought aside for later. "We're just glad a broken arm is the worst of it."

"Yeah... wouldn't be much help if I got myself killed..." she grumbled and picked at the blanket.

Spike frowned. "You know that's not the reason we're concerned. We do care about you, you silly bird."

Her eyes lifted to looked up at him through her lashes. "Really?"

"Really, Punky."

She grinned. "So when can you take me home?"

"I think the doctor wanted to look you over once you woke up, but after that it's okay to go home." Buffy nodded, looking between the two again. She looked over towards Willow as if to say, 'See, that's what I was talking about.'
