back to episode 7.19 - Empty Places

The Tarabula Rasa Review

by Taramisu

With all the work we did on the William the Bloody thesis last week, I just did not have the energy to write this.  So, here are a few highlights and piccies.

I'm bitter.  Yes, me.  I know that strikes you as totally out of character <*cough*>.  I'm bitter about:

Giles:

Well, he's got a new daughter.  Isn't that special?

Plus, he sent away Spike because he hates him, and Andrew because he annoys him.  He's such a good role model for the Potentials...who have great moral right now.

Buffy:

She's come a long way from Season 6, huh?

Is she ever going to learn that hitting people who irritate you is just not right?  Or is that Buffiphany #39?

Anya:

Oh, get off it already.  Buffy wasn't "lucky" to get the Slayer gig.  She's fought it tooth and nail all the way from when she was called at age 15.  If you really think that she's had a great life, hell, just watch "Becoming".

And, didn't your mother ever tell you that your face will freeze like that?

People I wasn't bitter about

CLEM!!

The Clemobile

Has he really stopped eating kittens?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Andrew:

And you also had to love his misspelling of "steak".

He's such a girl.

Spike:

Yay, Spike!  The only one who's actually furthered the plot this episode.

That look gets me every time.  And he's just looking at a priest!

Spandrew:

Andrew gets assigned on the away mission with Spike.  Erotic daydreams ensue.

Okay.  This is just too gay.

The Point of the Episode

Everyone has been discussing "Empty Places" and how many there were.  Well, you're all wrong.  Empty, in Physics, would refer to a vacuum.  Right in the beginning of the episode, Buffy is stalked by an evil vacuum cleaner.  I was hoping she would sense the danger, but she never did.  I think she was distracted by Clem.

Close-up.

Notice the tentacles and obvious phallic symbolism that has been rampant this season, denoting the innate evil nature of the male.

Here Buffy is starting to feel the vacuum leering at her.

"Turn around, Buffy!  Turn around!!"

Inconsistencies

I'm not seeing the design in that burn there.

Um.  Where did all those party goers come from in a town that is one big empty place?

Fun With Screen Caps

Buffy and Amanda thought this was another musical episode.

"Come on, guys.  My hips are only this wide.  There's still room for me here in Casa de Summers."

Dawn gets her earring caught on a passerby's piercing.

Buffy is about to get a raspberry from Caleb.

And now, Faith replaces Xander as the glutton of the group.

Apparently, there's some bad food in the fridge at Casa de Summers.  Clear the bathroom, NOW!!
