Episode 13: The Killer in Me

Written by Drew Z. Greenberg

Giles takes the Potentials on a retreat to the desert. Buffy goes down to the basement to chat with Spike, who has been living there and who stays chained up unless Buffy is with him. Spike's chip repeatedly fires, hurting him badly. They don't know why it's happening. Buffy promises to help, but Spike suggests that maybe he wasn't supposed to live long enough to survive the chip. Buffy decides to call Riley to see if the Initiative can help. Meanwhile, Kennedy, one of the Potentials, has been playing sick to avoid going on the retreat. She talks Willow into going out with her and flirts with her. Later, Kennedy kisses Willow, and Willow turns into Warren! Willow decides to seek help from the college Wicca group, whose members include Amy. Amy does a spell that doesn't work. Willow runs away. Spike and Buffy return to the Initiative caves. A demon attacks, but Spike is hobbled by chip pain before he can help. The demon attacks Spike and Buffy kills it. As Buffy kneels by Spike to see if he is all right, they are surrounded by Initiative soldiers. The leader of the group says Riley sent them to help with Hostile 17. The leader tells Buffy that the chip will kill Spike unless it is removed or repaired--and that's Buffy's choice to make. Willow-Warren buys a gun and confronts Kennedy in the backyard of the Summers house. Willow-Warren talks about her guilt over Tara's death. Kennedy is able to get through to Willow.
