Scheduled writers:

Piecing together comments by Jane Espenson (BtVS writer) at the Succubus Club and Steve DeKnight at the Bronze, this is probably the schedule of writers for the first 7 episodes:

Ep#1 Marti Noxon (Part 1 of premiere)
Ep#2 David Fury (Part 2 of premere)
Ep#3 Jane Espenson
Ep#4 Doug Petrie (write and direct; also, return of Jonathan)
Ep#5 Rebecca Rand Kirshner
Ep#6 Joss Whedon (musical episode)
Ep#7 Steve DeKnight

Here are various comments regarding the direction of Season 6:

Joss Whedon to E!Online:

JW: And we pretty much know everything that's going to happen in season six already.

E!: Awesome. Tell us everything.

JW: [Laughs.] I can only tell you this much: Every season has an arc, a sort of unifying theme. Last year it was the liberation of college and how it fractures you as a group and as a person. This year was about family and identity and Buffy being a slayer. And next year I refer to as "Oh, Grow Up." It's about realizing that we're young adults, and now we're making choices like our parents did, and we're just as bad at it as they were.

Hostboy at BC&S 5/31/01:

EACH YEAR, PRECEDING A SEASON OF "BUFFY", A PRODUCER OF THE SHOW GIVES A FEW VAGUE LITTLE SNIPPETS WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON. LAST YEAR'S CLUES WERE THE MOST FAMOUS AND WERE: UNEXPECTED LOVE, UNEXPECTED LOSS, NEW ALLIANCES, HARD CHOICES, OLD ENEMIES, NEW ENEMIES. ALL OF THOSE DID COME IN TO PLAY IN THE 5TH SEASON. I GOT THESE FROM A WEBSITE FROM THE WEBMASTER CLAIMING TO ALREADY HAVE THE CLUES FOR THE 6TH SEASON GIVEN BY DAVID GREENWALT. WHO KNOWS IF THESE ARE FOR REAL. BUT THEY'RE COOL TO THINK ABOUT. - DEPARTURE, - NEW RESPONSIBILITIES, - FORGIVENESS, - WELCOME HOME, - STRANDED

(Note: Greenwalt is only a Consulting Producer for BtVS, and his main gig is AtS. I have a hard time believing he'd be spilling clues about BtVS.)

Buffy News Wire (6/2/01):

If you get XPOSE magazine, look for an upcoming feature by our friend Zero. She interviews Jane Espenson and she's offering a sneak preview just for you fine folks:

Quotage: "There will be a cool bad guy, maybe more than one, but not specifically *new* bad guys. There's a character introduced late in the last season who you may not think you'll see again, but who will be pivotal early in season 6 (I guessed Joel Gray, but she indicated that wasn't right... so now my guess is Hank Summers, although he was actually introduced, as it were, a couple of years ago) Spike WILL remain on Buffy; he's not going to ANGEL, and working on STRANGE FREQUENCY is not going to interfere with his work on BUFFY."

Posted at Fan Forum (6/2/01). Information derived by calling a phone line in Ireland:

When Buffy fell through the dimension she paused whilst going through it at this point Buffy's soul and mind left her body. When her body is seen at the end Buffy is dead but her mind and soul are still alive within the dimension. the first ep of seaon six is supposed to be with Willow and Dawn finding Buffy's mind and soul by using Willow's ever increasing power and Dawn's energy as the key.

OK, join me in the Crypt of Spoiler Decryption as we speculate about what this all means.

A season with the primary theme of "Oh, grow up" can only mean that Spike will play a central role. Let's face it, Spike is the poster boy for arrested development. He acted like a 15 year old boy most of Season Five; it's no wonder he gets along so well with Dawn. So I foresee lots of good stuff for Spike this season.

Hostboy doesn't have a lot of credibility, being anonymous and all, but his spoilers are interesting: - DEPARTURE, - NEW RESPONSIBILITIES, - FORGIVENESS,- WELCOME HOME, - STRANDED.

"Departure" likely refers to Giles, who is moving to recurring status (source: Joss Whedon, TVGO). "New responsibilities" can refer to any of the Scoobies, including Spike, who may feel responsible for Dawn. "Welcome home" obviously refers to Buffy.

But what about "Forgiveness"? Jane E, in her Succubus Club interview, seemed to indicate that Buffy forgave Spike in "Intervention." In fact, the original title of the episode was "Absolution," which pretty clearly states the theme of the episode. So would Spike need more forgiveness? Does he need for the Scoobies, not just Buffy, to forgive him? Or does he need to forgive himself?

"Stranded" is a puzzle better left alone right now. We donāt even know if Hostboy is telling the truth. For now, letās put this one aside until we get further spoiler info.

The Irish phone line information should probably be dismissed, based on past misinformation disseminated by these UK phone lines. If true, it suggests Spike's non-involvement in Buffy's resurrection.

Jane E's latest information is most intriguing. If the newest Big Bad is a character from late last season, then he/she/it most assuredly has something to do with Dawn. And what endangers Dawn involves Spike, because Spike has promised to protect Dawn. So it is reasonable to speculate that there will be some sort of threat to Dawn early in Season Six, and Spike will fulfill his knightly duty and succeed in protecting her this time.
