Amy Acker

Biography of the actress
Amy Acker

Amy Acker-Fred

Born and raised in Dallas, this Texas native studied ballet, modern and jazz dancing for 13 years before heading to Southern Methodist University to study fine arts. While in college, Acker discovered a love for acting and enrolled in theater classes, ultimate graduating with a B.F.A. Soon, she landed a pilot for MTV and moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream.

Although the pilot didn't go to series, Acker next appeared in several independent films, most notably Groom Lake, written and directed by William Shatner. After a reading for Angel, she nailed the recurring role of Fred and after one season was upped to a series regular role.

From the shy Texan girl, to the confident scientist, Amy Acker was presented with many challenges in her role of Fred in the series, Angel. In season four, Fred found herself alone in the fight against Jasmine. With plenty of strength and a lot of courage, she helped reunite the gang to bring her down.

Fred’s dreams came true when she started working at Wolfram and Hart; the law firm where she was the Head of the Science Lab. She fell in love with Wesley, but had it cruelly snatched away from her in season five episode, A Hole in the World. It was at this point that Amy Acker was presented with the challenge of her life. She took on the role of Illyria, the powerful demon Goddess and the complete opposite of Fred in many ways. But Acker was still able to switch back to Fred, who appeared several times in the second half of the final season in scenes that were to become the most touching and tearful ones in Angel’s history.

Acker has been cast in horror flick, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. But fans are still hopeful that they will see the beautiful smile of Fred once again in Jossverse in the future.

When she's not working, Acker enjoys traveling, reading, skiing, horseback riding and learning to play golf. She relaxes by practicing yoga. Amy currently lives with her husband James Campinello in Los Angeles.
