Angel Episode #25: First Impressions Episode Guide

At the karaoke bar, the Agagonic MC is talking to Angel about his most recent performance: "Send in the Clowns" and "Tears of the Clowns." He's been practicing in the shower. The MC warns Angel that his heart can still break, despite his vamp state. Angel steps down from the stage and walks to the bar, where Darla is waiting. Darla and Angel begin to dance while the MC sings. She's over the whole killing thing. Angel assures Darla that no one knows about their "dates." He wants to keep her to himself. They begin to kiss passionately, and the MC can only remark: "Somebody get these two love vamps a room!" In his bed, Angel is sleeping peacefully but wakes up and stares at the ceiling.

Wesley and Cordelia are trying to clean up the Hyperion Hotel lobby. Cordy's not liking her newest cleaning job. Gun comes in demanding Angel's help, but Cordy says Angel's still sleeping -- it's 3:30 in the afternoon! Gunn isn't happy about Angel's new sleeping schedule. Gunn has always been there for Angel, and now that Gunn needs him, Angel isn't there. David Nabbit walks into the lobby, draped in a purple cape with sword in hand, ready to battle demons… although he was beeped two days ago. He explains he was delayed in Kuala Lumpur. He's been up since dawn, but Angel is still sleeping? Angel walks down and greets David. David thought he was beeped to help battle demons but instead it was for financial advice. Angel wants to know the best way to purchase the hotel. For the moment, they are leasing with an option to buy. David gives Angel several options and Cordy gets all warm over the quick financial lingo. David leaves with a promise to get some more solid numbers for Angel. Angel pours himself a cup of coffee, not very concerned that Gunn's in a hurry. Angel had promised to back him to shake up the snitch downtown who knows the location of Deevak -- a demon that injured two of Gunn's gang. Angel wants Cordy to drive, but Gunn doesn't want Wes and Cordy to come along. Gunn is overruled, and the whole team leaves.

The gang arrives at a parking lot. The snitch, Jameel, comes out nervously from behind a van. Angel throws him the bribe money, but Jameel’s afraid, and refuses to reveal Deevak's location. Gunn is frustrated and begins to beat on the snitch but Angel stops him. Gunn tries to continue beating Jameel but Angel now claims this is his problem. Vamps come out and the team fights against the gang. Later, they are leaning against the car, contemplating how lousy the fight went . Angel wants to regroup, but Gunn takes off to track down Jameel. Wes points out he's never seen Angel have so much trouble with a simple vampire. Angel replies, "Off day. Let’s go." Cordy drops off Angel, who heads straight for bed.

Cordy is in her apartment and complains to Dennis about how cold it is. Dennis quickly complies and raises the temperature on the thermostat. Cordy settles down to read a book but gets a strong vision of Gunn in trouble. She falls on the floor and Dennis sends the phone flying through the air and into her hand. Angel is lounging with Darla getting a night tan. There's a ringing in the background, but Darla tells him to ignore it. She distracts Angel with a cube of ice down his chest and a kiss. Cordy leaves a message on the answering machine, telling them about her vision and asking them to meet her at Gunn's. She takes a fighting ax with her. Cordy arrives at Gunn’s. He’s there, practicing his fighting skills with Joey, a member of his gang. Cordy thinks Gunn is in danger and her ax aims true - on Joey's head. Angel is with Darla. She needs to leave, but Angel wants her to stay. There's a knocking sound. They turn, and it's Wes hammering away at a coffin. Darla disappears, upsetting Angel. He attacks Wes, and it's no longer a dream. He's got the former Watcher on the floor, choking him. Wes is trying to tell him about Gunn. Angel backs off and Wes can finally breathe. Wes points out, "Now about the naked thing?"

Cordy is bandaging Joey's head. Gunn is kind of embarrassed that a girl tried to "save" him in front of his crew. He tries to save face. Gunn walks Cordy out and tells her that he doesn't need or want her help. They exit the building, but they stand before an empty space: "So, where's your car?" "So, where’s your car?" Wes asks Angel. Cordy took it. Cordy can't believe the car was stolen. Gunn says he’ll help get the car back. Cordy and Gunn get into a sarcasm-fest because she refuses to leave his side. Gunn wants to get the car back so that Cordy can leave, but she’s adamant about staying by his side to save him. Cordy tries to explain how things works, but Gunn only scoffs at her and her ax and her mace. Wes is waiting for Angel to put on his motorcycle helmet… a pink motorcycle helmet. If the vampire doesn't put it on, they may get stopped by the cops. Reluctantly, Angel finally puts it on. Wes can only hold back a smile as he says, "Hop on-board gorgeous!"

Gunn takes Cordy to a used-car dealership. Henry, who runs the garage chop shop in the back, informs Gunn that the only guy in the neighborhood who would steal a 1967 Plymouth convertible is Desmond, who’s at Tito's party. Gunn spots a few familiar cars from the neighborhood. He warns Henry to stop stealing local cars. After Gunn and Cordy head to the party, the Deevak demon comes out and threatens to end Gunn's life. As they go into the party, Gunn runs into one of his gang. He disobeyed orders; instead of cruising the garment district, he was out with his buddies. Gunn orders him to go home. Cordy points out that he's being too tough and strict. Gunn tells her to keep close. Cordy assures him she can blend. She doesn't. Gunn runs into Veronica, a girl he knows from the neighborhood. She seems to like Gunn and is jealous of Cordy. She tells him Desmond is around. They walk through the house looking for Desmond, an spot him pouring himself a beer. Gunn demands the return of the car, but Deevak's vamps come in and attack Gunn. They start a major fight.

Cordy tries to help Gunn but gets thrown on the floor. Veronica comes to help as well, but a vamp shoves her into a glass shelf. She crashes through the shelf and a piece of glass jams into her neck. Before Cordy can stop her, Veronica takes it out, causing her neck to bleed. Cordy uses a cloth to add pressure to her wound. The vamps take off. Gunn comes over and sees Veronica. Gunn carries Veronica into the emergency room. A doctor begins to take care of her. Cordy walks to the waiting room, where Gunn is having a déjà vu. He says he feels guilty because someone got hurt and it was his fault. He mistakenly refers to Veronica as Alonna — his sister who was turned last spring. Cordy can only try to comfort him and tell him it wasn't his fault. Just then, Desmond, who also got hurt, is about to leave on the elevator, when Cordy stops him. Gunn demands to know where the car is.

PtIV

Angel and Wes arrive at the party, but the only people left are the police and an ambulance. A girl walks out, disoriented. Wes and Angel try to help her and ask her what happened, but she's too confused until Angel head butts her and she turns vamp face. She tells them what happened. Gunn and Cordy are in a garage, where they find Angel's car. Cordy doesn't have the keys. She starts to look for them but the Deevak demon shows up with an entourage of vamps. Gunn tries to get Cordy to leave, but she's sticking to her guns. Deevak lifts Gunn from the neck and Cordy can only watch, helpless. The Deevak turns into Jameel. He was the Deevak all along, and isn’t too happy about how he was treated. Cordy reaches for her mace and succeeds getting Jameel's eyes. He turns back into the Deevak just as Wes and Angel skid underneath the garage door. A fight ensues. One of the vamps smiles at Angel's pink helmet. Angel promptly uses it to slam the vamp’s face into it. Deevak goes after Gunn, but Angel yells for the ax from Cordy. He catches it and slams it into Deevak's head. The demon falls, and the battle is done.

Angel pushes the car out, since his keys are still missing. Wes finds them with green goop on them. Cordy turns all philosophical and tells Gunn that in her vision it was he who was the danger to himself, and not any demon. She promises to be by his side until he can resolve his problems. Gunn finally accepts her presence. He drives off in his truck. Angel walks into the hotel lobby after a long night of battling mayhem and evil. Darla greets him and points out that he takes care of everyone else, but who takes care of him? Darla smiles and pushes him onto the couch. She takes his sweater off. Angel is in his bed sleeping, but in his dreams, they are on the couch. But then Darla is in his bed. She kisses his neck, "Hmmm . . . .I could just eat you up!."
