Angel Episode #58: "Couplet" Episode Guide
This summary is the intellectual property of Leoff

Previously on Angel: Talk of Connor and the prophecy, Gunn/Wesley/Fred relationship, Angel and Cordy grow close, Groo on Pylea, Groo arrives here.

In Connor's room, Angel and Lorne talk of Groo. It's obvious that Angel is hurt and jealous.

Meanwhile, at Cordelia's, Groo talks of his being deposed. The two kiss, but Cordy has a vision, seeing Groo briefly as a dark, scaly, hideous demon.

Opening Credits: Nothing new.

Morning, Angel comes downstairs with Connor and meets with Wesley. Wesley wants to talk with Angel about Connor's arrival. Wesley expresses concern to Angel about what roll Connor has to play in the grand scheme, and Angel agrees. Wesley says there are other sources of info and he'll investigate further.

Cordy comes in with Groo, who instantly starts playing with weapons from Angel's weapons cabinet, which makes the vampire uneasy and jealous. Angel asks what they did last night, which Cordy openly remarks that they didn't "do it" because the vision kinda killed the mood. Wesley asks about the vision as Cordy produces a sketch she made of the monster, saying it will rise sometime later that afternoon.

Cordy then opens up a little more, telling that she didn't have sex with Groo because she was afraid she might lose the gift of vision and pass it to Groo should they do it. Lots of sexual innuendo being tossed about as Cordy watches Groo work out with the weapons, Angel tries to dissuade her from "consummating," and Wesley talks of mystical prophylactics.

Gunn and Fred sit in a diner, talking over breakfast. The scene is very cute, filled with new love and talk of there actually being a "couple." Both of their pagers interrupt, a call from Wesley.

At the Hyperion, Wesley describes to all the demon that is about to arise. Wesley orders Angel to take the sewers in search while the rest of them go by car, but later, Wesley then pairs up Groo and Angel.

In the sewers, Angel and Groo track the demon, which eventually jumps them and, after a brief struggle, the demon is thrown through a wall and into a sunshine-filled park, where Groo takes off in pursuit (and where Angel cannot follow). Disappointed Angel watches from the shadows as Groo kills the demon, rescues a passerby, and gets contratulations from the crowd and the rest of the gang.

Commercial Break: Windex makes it SHINE.

Back at the hotel, Groo re-enacts his battle for Gunn, Cordy, and Fred as Angel helps out a client and Wesley is on the phone, shopping for a book. The client's case is simple. Wesley assigns Gunn to it, hoping to separate him from Fred, but Fred follows Gunn in tow.

Going to pick up the book at a local book shop, Angel and Wesley talk about office romances before Angel starts to become more clear in his talk. Angel feels useless, seeing Groo as being able to do everything Angel can, and a few things he can't. Wesley counters that it is Angel's mission that brought them all together and he is their purpose for being together.

At the hotel, Cordy gets ready to give Groo a haircut as the two share a moment, with Cordy talking about her feelings for him.

On the nighttime stakeout of the client, Gunn and Fred set up a video camera of the suspect from across the street as he stands by a tree. The two start necking, but then look up and the suspect has vanished!

Angel and Wesley return to the hotel to find an all new Groo, complete with haircut and new clothes (Angel's clothes). Cordy then talks to Angel alone, saying she need's Angel's help to have sex with Groo.

Commercial break: Buy a Dell, dude or DIE DIE DIE!!!

Cordy asks Angel to go to a demon brothel with Groo to get a love potion which will allow her to do it with Groo without losing the visions. Angel is not thrilled, of course.

Gunn and Fred search the tree, looking for the suspect, but just as they watch the video showing the tree sucking the suspect into the ground, the tree sucks THEM into the ground.

At the Brothel, Angel sees temptation everywhere while Groo gets the love prophylactic potion from a mistress. Just then, Gunn calls on Angel's cell phone, saying that they're entangled in a demon tree underground.

Going through the sewers to the tree's location, Groo rushes off to battle the tree as Angel watches.

Commercial Break: Burger King, home of the double-stack-big-mac-daddy-busting-wopper-burger!

The tree attacks Groo, sending a tenticle out and starts to suck the life out of him. The tree uses people's energy for life. Angel starts downplaying Groo's importance and power, saying he's better. The tree releases Groo and attacks Angel, but, being undead, The tree starts to die when trying to suck energy out of Angel. The tree slowly dies.

Gunn and Fred report to Wesley in his office about the client and the tree demon as Wesley asks for a word with Gunn in private. Welsey tell's an understanding Gunn to take care of Fred if he's going to romance her. Gunn gives Wesley his word he will.

Talking with Cordielia about the tree demon, Groo attempts to confess to her what really happened but Angel stops him, saying Groo is the real hero and puts him in a better light. Cordelia takes the love prophylactic potion and starts to head out with Groo, but first Angel gives her a BIG wad of cash, saying to treat Groo to a few days out in the sun.

Wesley sits disturbed at his desk as he translates a prophecy. "The father will kill the son."
