It's a day (and a night, and another day) in the life of Harmony Kendall, Dimwit Secretary. She's doing her best to get along with her co-workers and make Angel happy, but her co-workers resent her and Angel is even crankier than usual right now. There's a big summit between two warring demon clans, and the slightest foul-up could turn the whole thing into a bloodbath. Angel doesn't really like this part of the job, but negotiating a truce between the clans could go a long way toward upping his street cred as the new Wolfram & Hart CEO. Well, that and chopping the heads off any employees who violate the new zero-tolerance policy regarding murder and the like.

Anyway, Harmony is feeling seriously underappreciated, so Fred takes pity on her and agrees to go out for drinks after work. She even encourages Harm to flirt with a cute guy at the bar.

The flirting apparently works, since Harmony wakes up with said guy the next morning. The mood is diminished somewhat by the fact that he is dead, with two little bite marks on his neck.

"Oops." To put it mildly.

First order of business is dumping the body, which she manages fairly successfully - until the a friendly member of the police force finds it and send it over to W&H, since it was a vampire attack. Eventually, covering her tracks requires Harmony to knock out Fred, Lorne, and another guy and lock them in a closet. She figures out that she's innocent - she bites on the opposite side of the neck than the murderer - but proving it is trickier.

Just in case this wasn't all bad enough, it turns out that her boy toy was the liaison who was supposed to work with the demon clans on their peace summit. They're so pissed off about his death, they demand a blood sacrifice before the summit can begin, or they'll all basically kill each other (and probably several other people, too).

Meanwhile, Harmony finds out who's behind this whole mess. Is it someone trying to derail the demon meeting? Of course not. That would be far too interesting. It's just some chick who's been stuck in the steno pool for years, and is angry that Harmony got the top Gal Friday job just because she knew people. So this woman, Tamika (who is actually a vampire, too), slipped drugs into Harmony's drink at the bar, followed her home, killed the guy, and put human blood in Harm's thermos so it would look like she was off the wagon. The fact that the victim was a major player in this big demon thingie doesn't factor in at all.

Harmony does end up helping, though, since she gets into a big fight with Tamika and stakes her right in front of the demon clan leaders. They are satisfied with the "sacrifice" and agree to continue the meeting. Later, Harmony gets semi-officially reprimanded for being such a dumbass, but she's forgiven and sent out for coffee again.

And where has Spike been through all this? Off to see Buffy in Europe - or so he says. He actually can't bring himself to do it, though, since showing up on her doorstep would seem like such a comedown after his big exit. That's his excuse, anyway. We'll see.
