Prologue
1 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— CORRIDOR— NIGHT 1
ANGELUS moves down the darkened corridor, searching for LILAH. He
rounds the corner and comes across her bloody corpse sprawled in the
hallway.
ANGELUS
(sighs)
Well… that’s no fun.
CUT TO:
A nearby corridor. GUNN and WESLEY hunt for Angelus among the
shadowy hallways in the vast hotel.
WESLEY
(calls out)
Lilah!
They race around the corner to find Angelus standing with Lilah in his
arms, his mouth to her bloody neck. He looks up with a mocking smile.
ANGELUS
Oh, jeez, fellas! This isn’t what it looks like.
Gunn whips his axe down the hall and it slams into the wall inches from
Angelus’ head.
ANGELUS
A little too tart for me, anyway. You know what I mean,
Wes?
He drops Lilah’s corpse to the floor as Gunn takes out a stake..ANGEL

ANGELUS
(winks)
Catch ya later.
He turns and runs down the hall, leaping out the window into the night.
Gunn gives chase but stops when he realizes Angelus is gone. He turns
back to Wesley who is staring silently down at Lilah’s body.

2 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— LOBBY— NIGHT 2
FRED, LORNE and CONNOR tend to CORDELIA’s leg wound as the others
enter from upstairs. Connor rips the bolt free and Cordelia screams in
pain. Lorne hands Fred a belt which she uses to wrap a bandage over her
thigh to stop the bleeding.
GUNN
She okay?
CONNOR
She’s lost a lot of blood.
CORDELIA
Where’s Angelus?
GUNN
Gone. (beat) He killed Lilah.
They all stop and look up at Gunn, shocked. Connor stands up and runs
up the stairs.
CORDELIA
Oh, god…
She helps Fred tighten the belt around her leg and looks up toward the
stairs where Connor disappeared, a hint of a smile on her face..ANGEL

Act I
3 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— CORRIDOR— NIGHT 3
Everyone watches somberly as Wesley and Gunn wrap Lilah’s body in
plastic. Connor slams his hands on the window sash, frustrated.
CONNOR
What are we waiting for? Why aren’t we going after him?
WESLEY
No need. He’ll be back.
FRED
How do you know?
CORDELIA
We’re the ones he wants to hurt. The people closest to
Angel.
CONNOR
I say we dust him before he gets a chance.
WESLEY
That’s just the kind of reckless thinking that allowed
Angelus to double back on us, giving him the chance to—
He looks back down at Lilah again, clearly conflicted. Cordelia grimaces in
pain and sits down.
WESLEY
From now on, we all stay close.
FRED
And do what? If Angelus is coming back for us, we can’t
just be waiting for him to drop by. We need to do
something. Board up the windows, make it safe somehow.
Don’t you think?
GUNN
Won’t make a difference. If he wants in, nothing’s going to
stop him..ANGEL

LORNE
Birth of a notion, kids. We use the sanctuary spell. That
anti-demon violence charm I used down at Caritas. It
won’t keep Angelus from making a house call but it should
keep carnage down to a minimum.
GUNN
That takes some doing, doesn’t it?
LORNE
Well, I could put a call in to the Furies. Maybe they could
tech-support me through a quickie version.
CONNOR
(disgusted)
Magick again. You people rely way too much on that junk.
WESLEY
We use whatever tools we have.
CONNOR
Yeah, only it never really works the way it’s supposed to.
That’s why we’re here, isn’t it? Why he’s loose?
FRED
Cordy, why didn’t it work? The spell to bring Angel’s soul
back— did we do something wrong?
CORDELIA
I don’t know.
GUNN
Yeah, and how’d you get so fooled, Lorne? Reading
Angelus wrong like that. You were so sure he was Angel..ANGEL
Salvage
7
CORDELIA
Don’t put this on him. I’m the one who let Angelus out. It’s
my fault.
FRED
It’s nobody’s fault.
GUNN
I’ll tell you whose fault it is. The Powers That sit on their
Be-hinds sending us useless cryptic messages.
CONNOR
We have to destroy her.
WESLEY
What?
CONNOR
The body. She could have been turned.
GUNN
Sired, you mean? No, there wasn’t enough time.
CONNOR
You don’t know that.
GUNN
The hell I don’t. It happened too—
WESLEY
No. He’s right. We can’t take any chances.
He rips Gunn’s axe out of the wall.
WESLEY
I’ll take care of it..ANGEL

4 INT. BAR & POOL HALL— NIGHT 4
The bar is entirely taken over by demons and vampires. The screams of
humans can be heard in the background as the vampires feed on their
prey.
Angelus enters, shoulders his way past a burly demon and whispers in the
ear of a vampire. Across the room, PACO and KARL, both vampires
themselves, look up from their game of pool.
KARL
(to Paco)
Hey, isn’t that…?
PACO
Yeah.
The vampire by the door points to the bar and Angelus strides to the
center of the room. Everyone stops what they’re doing at the sight of
him.
ANGELUS
That’s right, brothers and sisters. The rumors are true.
Angel has left the building and I am back.
The demons and other creatures clap and cheer and welcome him back
into the fold.
ANGELUS
But hey, I’m no different than the next guy. I put my
victim’s skin on one leg at a time.
He heads for the bar but is intercepted by ROSARIA, a blonde vampire,
who runs up to him with a leering smile.
ROSARIA
Angelus! Remember me?
ANGELUS
Not really.
ROSARIA
Oh, come on! A little town outside Tuscany— 1845, give or
take? Rosaria!.ANGEL
Salvage
9
ANGELUS
(annoyed)
Rosaria, right.
ROSARIA
Yeah! Flew in with some of my friends when we heard
about the permanent midnight.
Angelus surreptitiously grabs a pool cue from someone behind him and
snaps it in two.
ROSARIA
Hey, a bunch of us are gonna raid a pre-school later. Want
to join us? Have a little kiddie cockt—
Angelus jams the pool cue through her heart and she dies with a lingering
scream.
ANGELUS
(to himself)
Everybody wants a piece of you.
He drops the cue and heads for the bar, standing next to a massive
horned DEMON with wavy jowls.
ANGELUS
I’m looking for the Beast. Guy over there told me you
might know where he hangs his horns.
DEMON
Whoa! You’re him. Talking to me. Not usually impressed
by vampires but this is such an honor. Hey! Could sign a
little something for my hellspawn? Make it out to Ashley.
She’s a beautiful little—.ANGEL

10
Angelus takes the offered pen and impales the demons hand with it, then
seizes him by the throat.
ANGELUS
Maybe some other time, huh? Where is the Beast.
DEMON
(moaning)
I don’t know. I swear!
PACO
I’ve seen him. The Beast. Seen him a couple times. Down
by the buildings by the wash.
Angelus releases the demon and walks over to Paco and Karl.
ANGELUS
Show me.
CUT TO:
5 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— BASEMENT— NIGHT 5
Wesley sits in the dark, staring at Lilah’s body. After a moment, he stands
up and unwraps the plastic. He lifts the axe and looks down at her. As he
brushes the hair from her face, her eyes open and she smiles at him.
LILAH
Why so glum? It is kind of what you wanted, isn’t it? I
mean, deep down. Me out of the picture. Utterly…
finally… you can’t get utter than this. It makes your life
simpler, doesn’t it? Cleaner?
WESLEY
I didn’t want this..ANGEL
Salvage
11
She sits up and shrugs off the plastic.
LILAH
Come on, what are you worried about, Wesley? You
hated yourself for being with me. Or maybe, you just
hated yourself for loving being with me. Hey, semantics.
In any case, we both knew sooner or later it would come
to messy end. For one of us, anyway.
She gets up and walks around behind him.
LILAH
So ease up on that furrowed brow. You’re free now. No
longer encumbered with the secret shame of our
relationship.
WESLEY
It wasn’t a relationship.
LILAH
There’s a signed dollar bill in your wallet I think proves
different. (beat) You knew how I felt.
WESLEY
You don’t feel.
LILAH
The only true thing I ever—
He turns away.
WESLEY
You didn’t love me!
And Lilah is back on the table, cold and still..ANGEL
Salvage
12
WESLEY
You couldn’t.
She walks out of the shadows behind him again.
LILAH
We’ll never know now, will we?
CUT TO:
6 EXT. LOS ANGELES RIVER— NIGHT 6
Angelus walks beneath a highway overpass with the other two vampires.
PACO
Yeah, I’m pretty sure this is the place. (to Karl) This is the
place, right?
KARL
Hey, man, you saw the thing. I didn’t.
ANGELUS
Where was the Beast headed?
PACO
I can’t remember, man.
Angelus seizes him by the shirt and yanks him close.
ANGELUS
Try remembering harder, Paco.
PACO
Okay! I was just trying to steer clear of the mammoth, all
right. You know what I’m saying.
ANGELUS
Listen to what I’m saying. I don’t have time to—
Angelus sudden stops and sniffs the air, his attention fixed on something
in the distance. He releases Paco and walks off into the night.
PACO
Hey, man, you want we should come with? (no answer) All
right, we’ll just stay here. (to Karl) Man, you made him
nervous!
KARL
Me?.ANGEL

PACO

CUT TO:
7 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— LOBBY— NIGHT 7
Fred and Gunn enter, their arms full of spice jars, while Lorne talks on the
phone with the Furies and takes notes.
LORNE
(into phone)
Yeah, okay. All right, not so fast, girls. One at a time. Okay,
“violence restrained”… uh-huh. Go on.
FRED
That’s everything we could find.
LORNE
(to Fred)
They say we need bloodroot.
GUNN
Bloodroot? Man, we just raided the spice rack in the
kitchen. Ain’t no bloodroot in there.
LORNE
(into phone)
Eighty-six on the bloodroot, ladies. Anything else we can—
well, yeah. I have paprika, ginger, all-spice, cloves. Cloves?
That’ll work? Got it. Beautiful. Hey, as soon as FTD’s
delivering in the city again, expect a big thanks-a-bunch
bouquet from me, girls. Ciao.
He hangs up the phone.
CORDELIA
Sounds like we got our home security spell.
LORNE
Right you are, missy. As soon as we sprinkle burnt clove
dust around the perimeter, light a few candles, incant a few
choice phrases, we’ll be—
CONNOR
Hurry up and do it. The sooner we quit playing with
magick tricks, the sooner we find and kill Angelus..ANGEL
Salvage
14
FRED
Wesley says we shouldn’t go after him.
CONNOR
I don’t give a flying sluk what Wesley says. He’s not my
boss. Where the hell is he, anyway? How long does it take
to chop off Lilah’s head?
GUNN
Boss or no, he’s right when he says we stay together until
we know what we have to do.
CONNOR
I know what we have to do. Angel told me. If something
goes wrong, I kill him.
LORNE
Oh, and now you listen to him?
FRED
Aren’t we forgetting something? Angel’s soul is still out
there… somewhere. That means there’s still a chance we
could bring him back.
CONNOR
How many people have to die before we give up on that
plan?
CORDELIA
I don’t know, Connor. How many people have to die
without Angel around to save them?
CONNOR
It’s way too late for that. I’ve seen his true face and he’s
tasted blood. There’s no going back now. He has to be
destroyed. And I’m the destroyer.
He turns to leave.
CORDELIA
Connor, don’t do this. It’s too dangerous.
She stands up to follow him.
CORDELIA
Come back! You can’t…
She suddenly sways on her feet and collapses to the floor. Fred and Gunn
run to her aid..ANGEL
Salvage
15
FRED
Cordy!
GUNN
Get her to the couch.
Connor looks back and sees them helping her up and comes back to lend
a hand.
CORDELIA
What happened?
FRED
You fainted.
CORDELIA
(woozy)
Oh… you mean like this?
Her head lolls back and she passes out again.
GUNN
All right, let’s get her upstairs.
CONNOR
I’ll do it.
He drapes her arm over his shoulder and, along with Fred, helps her to
the stairs.
GUNN
We’re not going to be able to stop him.
LORNE
Angelus?
GUNN
Connor. First chance that boy gets, he’s gonna kill
Angelus.
LORNE
More likely die trying. Trouble is, we can’t keep that boy in
check.
GUNN
Yeah, well, Angel aside, who could?

TITLE CARD:
Stockton, California
Northern California Women’s Facility
Pan across the yard where inmates play cards and exercise behind tall
fences capped with razor-sharp concertina wire.
EDDIE, the chief guard, hangs up the phone and calls down the yard.
EDDIE
430019, coming out!
A buzzer sounds and a thick metal door slides open. The Vampire Slayer
FAITH walks out into the sunlight and surveys the inmates with a cold
look in her eye.

9 EXT. CALIFORNIA STATE PRISON— EXERCISE YARD— DAY 9
Faith works out by herself, doing pull-ups on a high bar, while the other
women play basketball and gossip all around her. Behind her, the crowds
part as DEBBIE, a 250-lb hulk of a woman, makes a beeline for Faith.
When Debbie gets within striking distance, she whips out a large and
ornately-curved dagger. Hanging from the bar, Faith senses the danger
and whips her legs around, wrenching the knife from Debbie’s grasp and.ANGEL

kicking her savagely in the head, sending her to the ground. Faith
executes a twisting backflip and lands on her feet, squared off in front of
Debbie who reaches for the dagger and stands back up.
FAITH
Okay, you got my attention. What’s your beef, Deb?
Debbie swings the dagger, slicing at Faith who dances backward, just out
of reach.
FAITH
You really oughta think twice.
Debbie attacks and Faith seizes the larger woman’s arm with one hand
while slamming her opposite elbow into Debbie’s face.
FAITH
Or not.
Debbie charges again and Faith delivers a vicious kick to her shin, sending
her staggering backward. Debbie is hurting now but still determined.
DEBBIE
Nothing personal.
She swings the knife again and Faith cracks her arm across her knee and
punches her in the throat. She collapses to the ground, writhing in pain.
Despite the pain, she starts to get to her feet again, still intent on killing
Faith.
DEBBIE
I need the money!
Faith casually lifts a 200-lb barbell with one hand from a nearby weight
bench and slams it into Debbie’s head..ANGEL
Salvage
18
FAITH
For a nose job?
She drops the barbell and steps back, hands raised, as Eddie shoulders
through the crowd.
EDDIE
Come on, come on! Break it up.
FAITH
Hey, hey… self defense. She attacked me, Eddie.
EDDIE
Yeah, I saw the whole thing. (to crowd; re: Debbie) Go on,
get her to the infirmary.
The other inmates and a guard help Debbie up, her face a mask of blood.
FAITH
What? You saw?
EDDIE
Hey, caught us by surprise. I mean, who’d be crazy
enough to try to take you out?
Faith looks over at the guard who picked up Debbie’s dagger. She sees it’s
not a typical prison shank. It’s a ceremonial knife, the kind used in rituals.
Her eyes narrow suspiciously.
CUT TO:
10 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— BASEMENT— NIGHT 10
Wesley is still with Lilah’s body, conflicted over what he feels for her. He
looks past her corpse to find her sitting across from him, talking to him
again.
LILAH
I know what it is. The reason you’re having such a hard
time with this. Why you’re taking so long to… you know.
She makes a slicing motion across her throat.
LILAH
The awful truth: you couldn’t save me. And this is the
exclamation point.
WESLEY
I saved you from the Beast… for all the good it did..ANGEL
Salvage
19
LILAH
Wesley, you know that’s not what I’m talking about. You
couldn’t save me… from me.
WESLEY
Is that what you thought?
LILAH
(laughs)
Me? Lover, I’m not even here. I’m just a figment in your
devilishly handsome head. So clearly, it’s what you
thought. For all your supposed darkness, your edge-of-the-
razor mystique, there was always a small part of you
that thought you could pull me back from the brink of my
evil, evil ways. Help me find redemption.
WESLEY
Redemption…
LILAH
Angel’s influence, I suppose. The whole “not giving up on
someone no matter how far he or she has fallen”. Oh, well.
Too late for me.
Wesley gets up with the axe and stands in front of Lilah’s body.
LILAH
So let’s just get it over with. That body’s not going to
dismember itself, you know.
He raises the axe.
WESLEY
I’m sorry, Lilah..ANGEL
Salvage
20
LILAH
Oh, Wes, we don’t have that word in our vocabulary. Not
people like you and—
Wesley brings the axe down and severs her head. He’s alone in the
basement. Lilah is gone for good.
CUT TO:
11 INT. INDUSTRIAL WAREHOUSE— NIGHT 11
Angelus moves among the stacks of barrels and crates, searching. He
whistles, calling out into the darkness.
ANGELUS
Is this how you treat an old friend? Kill the chick I was
chasing, then lure me here with the scent of her blood.
He comes across the Beast’s dagger, still dripping with Lilah’s blood,
resting on top of a crate.
BEAST
We were never friends, Angelus.
The BEAST steps out of the shadows and towers over Angelus. He’s not
intimidated in the least, however.
ANGELUS
I know. But calling you a “big dumb hunk of rock” seemed
a little on the nose. Come on, man! I’m teasing. It’s been
what? A couple of hundred years? You still want to kick
my ass?
BEAST
It’s true I long to crush your skull but I didn’t bring you
here to fight. That wasn’t my instruction..ANGEL
Salvage
21
ANGELUS
Your instruction?
BEAST
My master has requested you.
ANGELUS
Your master? (re: dagger) Nice workmanship. Did you
make this in shop for daddy?
He reaches out for it but the Beast stops him.
BEAST
Don’t touch that.
ANGELUS
(laughs)
Sorry. I can see you put a lot of yourself into it. So… the
attack on Angel Investigations, rain of fire, blotting out the
sun—
BEAST
Stealing your soul. All designed by my master to bring
forth and keep Angelus.
ANGELUS
Well, hell of a plan. Real big-picture thinking. So when can
I meet the big brain behind my liberation?
BEAST
In time. For now you will take your orders through me.
ANGELUS
Or here’s a better idea. No. I won’t. Tell your boss I’m
grateful for the attention but I don’t take grocery lists from
the messenger boy.
BEAST
(furious)
I will teach you respect!
ANGELUS
Look, you may have played those suckers at Angel Inc.
but I don’t like having my strings yanked. And I don’t like
being kept in the dark! Figuratively, anyway. And if your
boss was half as smart as he thinks he is, he knows I won’t
take orders from a lackey..ANGEL
Salvage
22
The Beast glares at him, barely restrained.
ANGELUS
What? You don’t like lackey? Well, how about toadie? Or
lickspittle? Lickspittle’s nice. Oh, wait. I’ve got it. Flunky.
That’s it. You’re just a big, stupid, butt-ugly—
The Beast lunges at Angelus, throwing a punch but Angelus ducks and
backs up, dodging and weaving the Beast’s lumbering blows.
ANGELUS
—slow-moving flunky! Come on, rocky, if that’s all you’ve
got, you better throw in the towel and call it a night.
The Beast keeps trying to hit Angelus but never manages to lay a hand on
him. Angelus ducks several more blows, then leaps high up into the
rafters, landing on a catwalk far above.
ANGELUS
When the Beastmaster is ready to peek out from behind
your skirt, have him give me a call.
Angelus ducks out through a panel in the roof, leaving the Beast fuming
with rage.
CORDELIA
(o.s.)
Well, you handled that brilliantly.
She steps out from behind a stack of crates and walks over to the Beast.
BEAST
He is not to be trusted.
Cordelia slaps him in the chest.
CORDELIA
What about you? Letting him bait you into a fight like that.
I haven’t spent all this time and energy so you can mess it
all up with your petty jealousies. You know Angelus is
crucial to my plan..ANGEL
Salvage
23
BEAST
My apologies, my master.
CORDELIA
You need patience. He’ll come around… when he sees
what I have to offer. And if he doesn’t, you can pull off his
head and tear him to bits. (beat) Now give mama some
sugar.
She leans up and kisses the creature passionately on the lips.

Violence restrained, demons disarmed,
For mortals within these walls, no harm.
Protection and safety this charm doth endow,
To make this shelter a sanctuary now!
They all look around expectantly but nothing happens.
GUNN
Is that it?
LORNE
Well, if we followed the recipe… it should be cake. A
demon violence-free zone cake.
FRED
I don’t know, Lorne. It doesn’t feel like anything’s
different.
Connor shakes his head in disgust and sits down on the sofa.
CONNOR
’Cause it’s not. Like every other lame spell you people try,
it didn’t work. It never works. I’ve pretty much concluded
that magick sucks. I mean, if I were you guys, I’d—
Lorne picks up a candlestick and walks up behind Connor. He raises it like
a weapon and brings it down in an arc toward Connor’s head. Instantly, a
magickal barrier forms around Connor and repels Lorne’s attack,
throwing him backward into Gunn’s arms.
LORNE
See? It works sometimes. (gasps) It also smarts like the
dickens.
He leans up against the counter to catch his breath as Wesley emerges
from the basement.
WESLEY
Sanctuary spell’s working?
LORNE
Yeah, like a charm. Literally.
WESLEY
Good, it will make this easier.
He walks over to his things and starts gearing up, putting on his coat..ANGEL

25
GUNN
Make what easier?
WESLEY
Where’s Cordelia?
FRED
Upstairs, asleep. She still feels weak.
GUNN
Make what easier?
WESLEY
We’re going to bring Angelus in alive.
CONNOR
No, we’re not.
GUNN
I thought you said capturing him wasn’t an option?
WESLEY
Changed my mind.
CONNOR
Change it back.
WESLEY
We get rid of Angelus, then what? We still have a Beast we
don’t know how to kill. We know it’s working for
something much worse but we don’t know what it is.
We’re caught in the middle of a maelstrom and we can’t

a moment, then picks up the phone to talk to him. He stares back at her
without emotion.
FAITH
They told me my lawyer was here to see me. You my
lawyer now, Wes?
WESLEY
(flat; monotone)
Hello, Faith. How are you?
FAITH
Still alive. Never thought I’d live long enough to see you
paying me a visit.
WESLEY
A lot’s happened.
FAITH
Whatever it is suits you. I mean, you’re looking… good.
WESLEY
You know what’s going on in L.A.?
FAITH
Seen the news, sure. Never-ending night, rain of fire…
Team Angel must really have their hands full.
WESLEY
You don’t know the half of it.
FAITH
But you’re here to fill in the blanks for me. Why?
WESLEY
We need you.
FAITH
Well, I hate to wet the paper for you, Wes, but I’m kinda
unavailable right now. Maybe you want to check back in a
few decades when my parole comes up.
WESLEY
You need to know—.ANGEL

27
FAITH
It’s Armageddon again. I dig. Last thing you need is me in
the mix. Besides, Angel will come shining through in the
end like he always does.
WESLEY
Angel’s gone, Faith. Angelus is back.
Faith stares at Wesley for a long beat, taking in the ramifications, then
comes to a decision.
FAITH
Step away from the glass.
She hangs up the phone as Wesley stands up and backs away, then dives
through the Plexiglas, shattering it. She tucks and rolls on the other side,
rolling to her feet just in time to duck the swinging billyclub from one of
the guards. She quickly dispatches him, then wrenches the arm of a
second guard around and flips him to the floor. She turns and grabs
Wesley, then dives through a nearby window.

WESLEY

FAITH
Right. And what? Cordelia spend her last summer as…?
WESLEY
A divine being.
FAITH
Uh-huh. Can I just ask… what the hell are you people

WESLEY
Leading complicated lives, obviously.
FAITH
Unleashing Angelus to help you stop this demon who put

FAITH
I’m not gonna kill him, Wesley. Angelus. Don’t care what
you thought you sprung me for. Angel’s the only one in
my life who’s never given up on me. There’s no way I’m
giving up on—
WESLEY
I know. That’s why it had to be you.
He pulls over to the side of the road beneath an underpass.
WESLEY
I’m just wondering if you’re up to it.
FAITH

If I’m—
WESLEY
You have no idea what it’s like out there. It’s a
vampire/demon free-for-all, all the time. Maybe you’re a
little rusty.
FAITH
Maybe I am.
WESLEY
Maybe we should find out.
FAITH
Well, what did you have in—
A vampire suddenly yanks her out the passenger window by her hair and
drops her onto the pavement. A second vampire attacks from Wesley’s
side of the car but is flattened when Wesley slams the door open into its
head. The creature gets back up but Wesley sends him back down to the
ground again with a vicious kick.
On the other side of the car, a third vampire joins the fight. Faith rips into
both of them like hell’s own fury.
The vampire on Wesley’s side gets to his feet again and starts to charge
him but Wesley holds up his hand and points to Faith..ANGEL

WESLEY
No, she’s the one you want.
The vampire takes one look at Faith taking his friends apart and realizes
what she is.
VAMPIRE
Slayer…
He wisely decides it’s safer to be elsewhere and runs off into the night.
Wesley looks over at Faith and tosses her a pair of stakes. She catches
them, one in each hand, and slams them home, killing both vampires
instantly. She watches the dust cloud settle as she catches her breath.
WESLEY
Thought you could use a little release. Feel natural?
She tosses one of the stakes back to Wesley.
FAITH
Just like riding a biker.

16 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— LOBBY— NIGHT 16
Connor practices with a sword on the upper balcony while Gunn paces
nervously in front of Fred and Lorne, checking his crossbow.
LORNE
Oh, relax, boys, the spell is working and I still got the slight
migraine to prove it.
GUNN
Yeah, maybe so but if Angelus shows up, I want to be
ready.
WESLEY
(o.s.)
We are. Now.
Everyone turns to find Wesley standing at the front door with Faith. She
checks out the hotel lobby with approval.
FAITH

WESLEY
Everyone, this is Faith, the Vampire Slayer.
FRED
Hello, Faith. I’m—
FAITH
Fred. Yeah, Wes kinda gave me the skinny on you.
FRED
(taken aback)
Oh…
CORDELIA
Faith? What the hell is she doing here?
From the top of the stairs, Cordelia looks down at Wesley accusingly,
then looks at Faith with open hostility.
FAITH
(waves)
Nice to see you, too, Cor.
WESLEY
She’s here to help.
CORDELIA
Oh, gee! That’s great. Wait a sec! Wasn’t she convicted of
murder and sent to a state correctional facility for like a
gazillion years?
FAITH
Murder two, 25-to-life. For the record.
CORDELIA
(to Wesley)
So now you brought psycho-Slayer out of retirement to
kill Angelus?
FAITH
Cordelia, you have every right to feel that way about me.
You have no reason to trust me. But I don’t have loads of
time so why don’t we save it till after this is over, cool?
Cordelia obviously isn’t cool but says nothing..ANGEL

Faith looks around and takes stock of the situation.
FAITH
Okay, let’s get down to it. We’re gonna keep this hunting
party tight. Gunn, right?
GUNN
Yeah.
FAITH
Love the name. Hear you’re a good fighter.
GUNN
I hold my own.
FAITH
That’s a shame. You’re with me, Wes and the kid.
CONNOR
The kid has a name.
FAITH
Connor. (to Gunn) Arm yourself how you like but I want
you to carry the trank gun. If I can’t take him down, I want
you to be ready to take the shot, yeah?
Gunn nods, liking her style.
FAITH
In case anyone has any other ideas, this is a salvage
mission, not search and destroy. Okay?
Cordelia stares daggers at Faith but keeps silent..ANGEL

33
CONNOR
No. Not okay. You think you can just breeze in here,
telling everyone what to do? You’re not a part of this. If
you think I’m not going to kill Angelus if he comes at me,
then—
FAITH
Listen up, junior. When I need a bloodhound, I’ll call you.
If Angelus needs putting down, I’ll be the one to do it, not
you. So is there anything else you’re not okay with? (beat)
Good. (to Gunn) Show me the weapons.
As they walk over to the weapons cabinet, Connor watches Faith,
impressed in spite of himself. His slight smile of admiration doesn’t escape
Cordelia’s notice and her gaze goes cold.

keeping their distance.

ANGELUS

She looks up into his terrifying visage and does just that. He’s about to
bite her when he hears the other vampires talking.
VAMPIRE #1
The Slayer? Are you sure?
VAMPIRE #2
Just got word. She’s in town.
Angelus releases the woman as a smile plays across his face.
CUT TO:
A phone booth. Angelus picks up the receiver and dials a number from
memory.
ANGELUS

Hi, Dawn. Yeah, it’s me. Is your sister home? (beat) She is?
He hangs up the phone and sighs.
ANGELUS
It’s the other one.

18 EXT. LOS ANGELES STREETS— ALLEY— NIGHT 18
Faith, Gunn, Connor and Wesley make their way through the shadowy
back streets, searching for Angelus. They carry weapons. Faith has a
loaded and modified crossbow held at the ready.

So… Vampire Slayers. I was told about them. How come
you’re always girls?

Let’s not.
They approach a chain-link fence topped with razor wire. Beyond is a
shadowy warren of crates and garbage.
CONNOR
He was here. Just.
Connor pulls up a corner of the fence and slips through, followed by
Faith, Gunn and Wesley.
They move slowly through the darkness aware that Angelus could be
hiding anywhere.
FAITH
Eyes and ears peeled. Watch the periph. Nobody make a
move until I—
A vampire leaps out in front of Connor and he instantly decapitates it
with his sword. Faith slams Connor up against the wall and holds him
there.
FAITH
Are you deficient? What did I just say?
CONNOR
He was attacking!
FAITH
You thought it was Angelus. (releases him) If you can’t
listen, you’re no good to me. (to Gunn) Get him out of
here. Someone take him back to the hotel.
CONNOR
What?
GUNN
Yeah, easier said. The kid’s got a history of not doing what
he’s told.
FAITH
He’ll do what I tell him.
CONNOR
Yeah, sure I will..ANGEL

He starts to head down the alley and Faith yanks him back, slamming him
up against the wall again. He breaks her grip on him and they grapple.
Wesley and Gunn share a glance but don’t intervene.
FAITH
I get it. You’re a super-being.
Connor kicks her backward and she punches him in the chest, whipping
her crossbow up and cocking it, leveling it at his throat.
FAITH
Are you a murderer? ’Cause I am. And if it comes down to
you or Angelus, you haven’t shown me a thing to make
me want to take your side.
Connor and Faith stare at each other for a long beat, then Connor raises
his hands in surrender. He bends down, picks up his sword and walks
back the way they came.
GUNN

I like her.
He de-cocks his rifle, hands it to Wesley and follows Connor.

FAITH
Not especially.
WESLEY
How do you expect to find Angelus without Connor?
FAITH
The old-fashioned way. The kid’s not the only tracker.
Something will turn up. Trail of bodies, tell-tale clue…
They round the corner to find a huge banner hanging from the far wall
emblazoned with
WELCOME FAITH
FAITH
…maybe a carpet fiber.
WESLEY
So much for the element of surprise. We’ll have to come at
him from two sides.
FAITH
(distant)
You take low.
Wesley looks around to find Faith has run the length of the roof in the
blink of an eye. As he watches, she leaps from one ledge to another, an
amazing display of supernatural agility.
FAITH
I’ll hit him high.
Wesley watches her until she disappears in the darkness then continues
on. A fist suddenly flies out of nowhere, connecting with his chin. He goes
down and the rifle skitters away. It’s Paco. The vampire leers at Wesley as
he gets to his feet.
PACO
Pretty ballsy, mister, creeping around my buddy Angelus.
Come on, pretty boy!
Wesley extends his arm and a collapsible sword telescopes out and locks
into place. Wesley slashes the blade at Paco and catches him across the
chest. The vampire staggers backward with a cry of pain. Before Wesley.ANGEL

his voice echoing throughout the vast building.
ANGELUS

Hey, Faith. Nice to see you again. You’re looking choice as

FAITH
So what are you waiting for? Come out and give me a
kiss.
ANGELUS
(o.s.)
No, no, no. You come to me. That’s it… getting warmer.
Faith comes to a metal ladder and descends into the lower level of the
warehouse. Now Angelus’ voice is a lot closer.

You dare to bring a Slayer here?
ANGELUS
Hey, doing you a favor, Stonehenge. She’s here to

question is, what do you do, hotshot? What do you do?
The Beast stalks forward toward Faith. She raises her crossbow and fires
but the bolt glances harmlessly off the Beast’s rock-like chest. She punches
it, then punches it again, to no effect. It seizes Faith by the throat and lifts
her off the ground.
ANGELUS
Smile, Faith. I thought you’d enjoy a threesome.
FAITH
Sure…
She whips her fist backward and it slams into Angelus’ head, send him
staggering backward. She breaks the Beast’s hold on her neck and puts
some distance between herself and her opponents.

Faith attacks the Beast with a roundhouse kick followed by a flurry of
punches to its chest. The Beast staggers back a step but the blows don’t
hurt it at all.
ANGELUS
Whoo-ee! Watch yourself, big guy. The girl’s on fire.
Faith pours every ounce of her preternatural strength into her blows.
After another volley of punches and several roundhouse kicks to its head,
the Beast is still standing, unharmed. With a menacing growl, it thrusts its
arm forward into Faith’s chest like a massive piston, lifting her into the air
and sending her flying backward a dozen feet where she crashes through
a packing crate and lands covered in debris.
ANGELUS
(winces)
Oh… that’s gonna sting in the morning.
The Beast stalks forward and hauls Faith out of the crate’s wreckage. She
flips up into the air, kicking hard into the Beast’s face before landing and
hammering it’s belly with punch after punch.
ANGELUS
Nice!
She ducks several blows and follows with one of her own but the Beast
stops her arm in mid-swing and pounds her to her knees, then swings her
into a stack of steel conduit with tremendous force.

Faith is on her knees now. The Beast pounds her, one massive blow to the

gasping in pain.
ANGELUS
You know, somebody should break this up.
She crawls to the center of the room, her face contorted in pain as the
Beast approaches and stands over her. She realizes she’s about to die and
faces it without fear.
BEAST
This is all you are. I had heard the Slayer possessed great
strength… but there’s no real power here. My master’s
power is beyond all limits. Beyond your petty imagining.
You are weak. You are nothing. You could not even defeat
me.

Ain’t that the truth? I mean, look at this guy. Pretty much
the only thing that could do damage to that thick stony
hide… is himself. Or maybe, I don’t know… maybe a piece

Angelus whips out the Beast’s dagger and slams it into the creature’s back.
The Beast screams in agony and bats Angelus aside. It writhes about,
trying to reach the dagger buried in its back as cracks starts to form all
along the length of its body. Radiant blood-red light pours out of the
fissures as its screams reach a crescendo pitch.
ANGELUS
I knew it! I knew it!
The light comes together in a coherent beam and shoots out of the Beast’s
mouth and eyes up into the sky. It slams into the mysterious cloud
obscuring the sun and annihilates it. Sunlight instantly blazes forth,
bathing the city in a golden glow.

disgust at the sunlight coming though the windows high above.
ANGELUS
Aw, crap! You mean killing the Beast really does bring
back the sun? I thought that was Angel’s retarded fantasy.
Oh, well… what are you gonna do?
He gets to his feet. Faith looks up and grasps the chains dangling from a
loading winch above her and pulls herself to her feet, using the chain to
keep herself upright. The effort is almost more than she can bear.
ANGELUS
Anyhow, I just wanted Beastie-boy here to soften you up. I
like my meat nice and tender.
He licks his lips and leers at her lasciviously. With an agonized scream,
Faith hurls the loading winch at Angelus. It slides along its rails toward
him but slowly. Angelus easily steps out of the way.
ANGELUS
Oh! A swing and a miss, slugger! Sorry—
The winch continues on past him and crashes through the window, letting
in a broad swath of sunlight. Angelus barely manages to dive into the
shadows and avoid incineration. Faith lies on the ground right in the
center of the sunlit floor, unreachable.
