Prologue
1 INT. MAURY’S SHOP— NIGHT 1
A strangled cry escapes FAITH’s lips as ANGELUS sinks his fangs into her
neck and begins to drink.
Suddenly Angelus pushes Faith away and falls backward gasping.
ANGELUS
What… did you do?
Faith stares at him, holding her ravaged neck.
CUT TO:
Earlier.
Faith strides forward and shoots at Angelus with the trank gun. He ducks
aside and the shot misses, then kicks Faith backward into a stack of boxes.
WESLEY chambers a round in his shotgun and opens fire. Again, Angelus’
demonic reflexes allow him to evade the gunfire.
While Angelus is distracted with Wesley, Faith slides her pant leg up and
removes a hypodermic syringe strapped to her leg.
ANGELUS
(o.s.)
You gotta do better than that, Wes! Come on! I’ll give you
one more. Strike three!
She quickly plunges the needle into her arm and injects herself with the
drug..ANGEL

BACK TO SCENE
Angelus grabs onto the scaffolding and tries to haul himself up but the
drug is too powerful. He collapses back to floor, barley conscious.
ANGELUS
You… you sp… you spiked…
Behind Faith, Wesley tumbles off the scaffolding and crashes to the floor.
He pushes himself up and looks over at Faith.
WESLEY
You all right?
A hint of a smile plays across Faith’s face.
FAITH
Kicked his ass.
Then her eyes roll up into her head and she falls over unconscious.
Opening credit sequence.
Act I
2 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— LOBBY— NIGHT 2
The lobby is quiet. FRED sits at the counter, reading an old book on
magick. Suddenly, the door slams open and GUNN enters, dragging an
unconscious Angelus and calling out frantically.
GUNN
Connor!
FRED
Oh, my god! Angelus…
GUNN
Pick up your trank gun. I don’t know how much time we
have. Connor!
Fred grabs the pistol and hurries around the counter to where Gunn has
dumped Angelus on the lobby floor. His hands and feet are bound with
rope.
FRED
What happened?.ANGEL
Orpheus
5
GUNN
Wes called. I went.
He grabs the gun from Fred and cocks it, aiming it at Angelus.
FRED
Where is he? Where’s Faith?
LORNE wanders out into the lobby to see what the fuss is about.
LORNE
Well, what is all the— oh! Angelus! He’s in the hotel!
GUNN
(to Fred)
Get me the steel shackles.
Fred runs back into the office as Lorne stands over Angelus, amazed.
LORNE
Oh, but maybe we’re already aware of that.
GUNN
All I had was rope in the truck.
CONNOR appears on the upper balcony and looks down.
CONNOR
What’s going on?
GUNN
Get down here, now! (to Fred) The leg irons, too.
Connor sees Angelus on the floor and dashes down the stairs.
CONNOR
She found him.
LORNE
Wesley and Faith… where are they?
The door slams open and Wesley enters, carrying Faith in his arms. She’s
out cold, a large blood-soaked bandage pressed to her neck.
WESLEY
(re: Angelus)
Get him downstairs..ANGEL
Orpheus
6
CONNOR
What happened to Faith?
WESLEY
She captured Angelus.
FRED
God, what did he do to her?
WESLEY
Gunn…
GUNN
We got it.
LORNE
She looks not well.
CONNOR
She gonna be—
GUNN
Wake up, kid. I need you here.
He hands Connor the shackles and pulls him away from Faith.
WESLEY
(to Fred)
Help me with her.
CUT TO:
3 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— CONTINUOUS— NIGHT 3
Accompanied by Lorne and Fred, Wesley carries Faith through the hotel
into one of the rooms and puts her down on the bed..ANGEL
Orpheus
7
CUT TO:
4 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— BASEMENT— NIGHT 4
Connor opens the cage door and Gunn drags Angelus inside. They strip
the ropes from his wrists and start fastening the shackles and leg irons.
CUT TO:
5 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— FAITH’S ROOM— NIGHT 5
Lorne checks Faith’s pupils then notices the needle track on her arm. He
looks up at Wesley, realization dawning.
Fred enters with a bowl of hot water and fresh bandages. She carefully
removes the cloth from Faith’s neck and looks at the ragged bite marks
beneath. After a moment’s hesitation, she wets a fresh towel and starts to
clean the wound.
CUT TO:
6 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— BASEMENT— NIGHT 6
Angelus is firmly secured. Connor leans over him and grimaces.
CONNOR
He fed from her. There’s blood on his breath.
Angelus suddenly jerks in his chains and Connor and Gunn leap
backward, Gunn holding his trank pistol at the ready. Angelus mumbles,
delirious, but remains unconscious.
ANGELUS
(weak)
I’ll kill you… kill… you…
CUT TO:.ANGEL
Orpheus

7 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— FAITH’S ROOM— NIGHT 7
Faith tosses and turns, muttering in her sleep as well.
FAITH
…scratch you out…
FRED
She’s not making any sense.
LORNE
(to Wesley)
And speaking of sense, have you been on permanent
sabbatical from yours? Tell me you did not shoot that girl
full of junk and then feed her to Angelus.
WESLEY
It was her choice. Faith knew the risks..
LORNE
(angry)
Oh, she couldn’t!
Fred turns around and shushes him. He lowers his voice, chagrined but
still angry with Wesley.
LORNE
Wesley, I know what that drug does to people. Especially
when they super-size the dosage to make sure they really
get the job done. And you damn well know it, too.
CUT TO:.ANGEL
Orpheus

8 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— CORDELIA’S ROOM— NIGHT 8
CORDELIA looks at Connor skeptically.
CORDELIA
A coma?
CONNOR
Yeah, that’s what it looked like when Wesley brought her
in.
CORDELIA
Like she hasn’t pulled that one before.
CONNOR
I don’t think she was faking.
CORDELIA
So the Slayer snagged Angelus. (realizes) He’s in the hotel.
Is he locked up tight in the cage?
CONNOR
Don’t worry, Cordy. I’ll always protect you… and our
family.
CORDELIA
(dismissive)
That’s sweet. Is he guarded?
CONNOR
(nods)
Faith really did a number on him.
Cordelia suddenly explodes with rage and slams Connor violently against
the wall.
CORDELIA
(furious)
What the hell is it with you and Faith? As if I didn’t see the
way you looked at her! She cracked her whip and you
liked it. You were practically in her leather-clad lap.
CONNOR
No, I wasn’t! And how’d you do that, anyway? What
about the anti-demon spell?.ANGEL
Orpheus
10
CORDELIA
I told you, Connor, we’re different! Me and your baby.
(turns her back on him) But I guess you can’t even be loyal
to our bed let alone our little family. I thought you were
going to be a better father than Angel was to you.
CONNOR
I will be! I would do anything for us. For you.
A small smile plays across her face. She knows she has him. She turns
around, now all sweetness and charm.
CORDELIA
Wow! Are my hormones out of whack or what? Hello!
Crazy pregnant lady, out of line!
She laughs, then turns serious.
CORDELIA
Why don’t you go see how Faith is doing. (off his look) Go
on. I’m concerned. I want to know—
CUT TO:
9 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— FAITH’S ROOM— NIGHT 9
CONNOR
—what’s going to happen to her?
Connor stands at the foot of the bed where Lorne sits with Faith. Wesley
sits in a chair in the corner, holding an ice pack to his head.
FRED
Actually, I’d like to start with what exactly was it, Wesley?.ANGEL
Orpheus
11
LORNE
Orpheus.
CONNOR
Orpheus?
FRED
Some kind of opiate?
LORNE
The mystical variety. Humans inject it. Vampires feed off
the humans. Folks tried to deal it at Caritas. Only folks I
ever banned from my club.
FAITH
(mumbles)
…dimension but…
FRED
(to Lorne)
So if ordinary humans do this junk, Slayers are all super,
right?
LORNE
That’s what makes it so dangerous. Orpheus isn’t entirely
physical. It’s an enchanted drug.
CONNOR
(disgusted)
Magick. This is what it get you.
LORNE
That plus the biting. Makes for some serious psychic
psychedelia. And the more you take, the deeper you sink.
WESLEY
It leads you down to hell…
CUT TO:
10 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— BASEMENT— NIGHT 10
Gunn slams the cage door shut, locks it and chains it.
WESLEY
(v.o.)
…and leaves you there.

11 EXT. ELLIS ISLAND, NEW YORK (1902)— DOCKS— NIGHT 11
TITLE CARD:
New York, 1902
Steamer ships disgorge immigrants by the hundreds. They stand in lines,
hefting everything they own, waiting to be processed into the United
States.
Filthy and disheveled, Angel makes his way through the teeming throngs.
Suddenly Angelus is there, standing right in his path dressed as he was in
21
st
Century Los Angeles. Angel takes no notice, however, and passes
right through him. Angelus turns around and watches Angel walk off,
confused and angry.
ANGELUS
Hey! What is that about?
FAITH
(o.s.)
You tell me. It’s your flashback.
Angelus spins around to find Faith standing behind him. He instantly
attacks, throwing himself at her, but just like Angel, he passes right
through her and tumbles to the ground. Faith looks down at herself, then
laughs.
FAITH
You know what the definition of insanity is, baby?
Performing the same task over and over and expecting
different results. Learned that in murder rehab.
ANGELUS
(agitated)
All right, Miss Blow-it-All. This is my flashback. Why are
you in it?
FAITH
Don’t know. Must be the magick side effects of my
incredibly simple ruse.
ANGELUS
All right. So what is this, huh? Puff the Magic Dragon City?
Fairyland?.ANGEL
Orpheus
13
FAITH
You’d think. Me, I’m guessing it’s more like “Angelus, This
Is Your Life” because… Lack-of-Hygiene world? It sure
ain’t mine.
She looks over at Angel walking among the crowd, filthy and disgusting.
FAITH
Seriously, man. Did you miss the invention of the bath?
ANGELUS
(disgusted)
The whole way over here he crouched in the filth of the
animals just to avoid human temptation. This isn’t my life.
It’s his!
FAITH
Angel’s?
ANGELUS
It annoyed the crap out of me the first time around. This
sucks. And why do you get to be Marley’s ghost?
FAITH
’Cause I’m dying, dumb-ass.
ANGELUS
(chuckles)
Not soon enough.
FAITH
Way I figure, I got one last job. Babysit the psycho until
they shove a soul up your—
ANGELUS
Not gonna happen..ANGEL
Orpheus
14
FAITH
Then I’m— whatever. Dust in the wind. Candle in the
wind. There’ll be a general wind theme.
ANGELUS
I thought those suicidal tendencies got squashed in the big
enlightenment.
FAITH
(shrugs)
I rolled the dice. It paid even odds.
CUT TO:
12 EXT. CHICAGO (1922)— STREET— NIGHT 12
A pair of dice rolls across the sidewalk as a couple of old bums play craps.
MAN
Even odds, one over. Press on the big six! Boxcar’s out.
Whistle while you’re walkin’, boys! You’re trollin’ a
graveyard. Throw the bones!
Angelus and Faith walk past the craps players and look around at the
bustling street outside of a blues club.
FAITH
Trippy.
ANGELUS
Early 20’s by the cars. What is this? Chicago?
He sees Angel sitting on a bench across the street. He’s cleaned up now
but stares vacantly into the night, obviously haunted by something.
ANGELUS
Oh, no. I remember this. I remember this place. I gotta get
out of here.
FAITH
Why? You freakin’ out?
Tires screech as a car rounds the corner.
ANGELUS
It’s coming… again..ANGEL
Orpheus
15
FAITH
What’s coming?
ANGELUS
I can’t do it again. I won’t.
Suddenly Angel bolts off the bench right in front of the oncoming car.
FAITH
Angel, get out of the road!
He zips in front of the car and scoops up a small puppy from the road just
in time to save it from being run down. Angelus winces.
ANGELUS
Ah, no!
A pretty young FLAPPER GIRL runs out of the club and over to Angel,
smiling happily at the sight of the puppy.
FAITH
(laughs)
Dude! You just rescued a puppy.
The girl takes the dog from Angel’s arms and smiles at him invitingly.
GIRL
(to Angel)
Oh, my stars! You saved him, mister.
ANGELUS
I’m in hell. This is hell and I’m in it.
GIRL
(to Angel)
Oh… gee big fella, how can I thank you?.ANGEL
Orpheus
16
ANGELUS
We haven’t fed on a human in decades. She’s beggin’ for it,
you moron!
ANGEL
(to girl)
Get lost.
GIRL
Beg pardon?
ANGEL
Take a hike, Betty. Scram.
GIRL
Well, pound snow, you mook!
She glares at him and walks back into the club with the puppy.
FAITH
(smiles)
We’re reliving Angel’s good deeds. You are in hell. Wicked.
CUT TO:
13 INT. HYPERION HOTEL (PRESENT)— FAITH’S ROOM— NIGHT 13
Faith lies still and unmoving in her bed. Lorne brushes her hair back from
her face.
CUT TO:.ANGEL
Orpheus
17
14 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— LOBBY— NIGHT 14
Wesley, Fred and Connor are at the counter. The monitor nearby shows
Gunn standing watch over Angelus in the basement.
WESLEY
There’s only one thing we can do for Faith now… finish
what she started.
FRED
You mean re-ensoul Angel.
CONNOR
Impossible. We’ve been over this. No jar, no soul. No soul,
no Angel.
FRED
It’s not that simple, Connor. I’ve been doing some
research—
CONNOR
It is simple! Angelus is all that’s left. First he slaughtered
Lilah, now he’s killed Faith—
WESLEY
She’s not dead yet.
CONNOR
You’re lying to yourselves! You all think that I’m taking
this personally so that you don’t have to but inside you
know I’m right. We need to put Angelus down.
WILLOW
(o.s.)
I don’t think so.
They all look up to find WILLOW standing at the front door.
WILLOW
(smiles)
I think you need a witch.
FADE OUT.ANGEL
Orpheus

Act II
15 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— LOBBY— NIGHT 15
Resume. Willow walks over to the counter and sets her bag down.
WILLOW
Did I come at a bad time?
WESLEY
(surprised)
Willow?
CONNOR
(skeptical)
She’s a witch?
WILLOW
Yes, hi. You must be Angel’s handsome yet androgynous
son.
CONNOR
It’s Connor.
WILLOW
And the sneer’s genetic. Who knew?
FRED
(smiles)
Hi, Willow!
WILLOW
Hey, Fred. It’s good to see you. (to Wesley) Oh, and it’s the
Marlboro Man… or at least his extra stubbly, mentally
unstable, insomniac first cousin… oh, for the love of
Hecate somebody stop me.
FRED
It’s okay. I’m a yammerer from way back.
WESLEY
Are there forces gathering? Did the call of magick draw
you here?
WILLOW
Oh, no. More like the call of Fred..ANGEL
Orpheus
19
WESLEY
(realizes)
Of course. Bring in the only living person to ever re-ensoul
Angel.
FRED
She has a fresh brain. I thought she might see some things
we missed.
WILLOW
Well, hearing the thoroughness of your research
methodology, I don’t think that’s possible.
FRED
(smiles)
Oh… go on.
WILLOW
We should probably start the debriefing. Where’s Cordy?
CONNOR
Unfortunately, the guy who you’re all trying to magickally
re-ensoul shot her with a crossbow. She’s not up for
visitors.
WESLEY
I think she’ll want to see Willow. After all, she’s traveled a
long way and they have a history together.
CUT TO:
16 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— CORDELIA’S ROOM— NIGHT 16
Cordelia sits propped up in bed, her belly hidden by the covers. A knock
at the door and Connor enters, leading Willow inside..ANGEL
Orpheus
20
WILLOW
Hi there.
CORDELIA
(smiles)
Long time, no see.
She notices Connor staring suspiciously at Willow.
CORDELIA
It’s okay, Connor. I’m fine.
He nods and walks out, closing the door behind him. Willow sits down on
the bed with a smile.
WILLOW
How have you been?
CORDELIA
Higher power. You?
WILLOW
Ultimate evil. But I got better.
CORDELIA
You heard about Faith?
WILLOW
Coma again.
CORDELIA
What about Angelus? Did you go down and see him yet?.ANGEL
Orpheus
21
WILLOW
I’m way avoidy. Too many memories. I’m just glad I don’t
have to be in the same room with him when I re-ensoul
him.
CORDELIA
You really think you can pull it off?
While she talks, Cordelia’s hand slips beneath the covers and closes
around a butcher knife.
WILLOW
Putting his soul back? It’s the first spell I ever learned. Not
gonna forget that.
CORDELIA
What about the muo-ping?
WILLOW
The jar holding Angel’s soul? Therein lies our boneage.
CORDELIA
Stolen right from our safe. And if we can’t get the soul out
of the jar, we can’t put it back in Angel.
WILLOW
Yeah, the question is, how do we get the soul out if we
don’t know where the jar is?
CORDELIA
And apparently the thing’s impervious to magick.
WILLOW
I know. I already tried a standard locator spell but zero
joy.
Under the covers, Cordelia’s hand loosens on the knife. Willow’s
apparently not a threat after all.
CORDELIA
Right. Plus Wesley’s shaman says there’s no way to extract
a soul from a distance.
WILLOW
Soul trapped in a glass jar, impervious to magick… it is
complicated.
CORDELIA
Tough nut to crack..ANGEL
Orpheus
22
Cordelia’s words spark an idea in Willow. Cordelia sees her expression
and her grip tightens on the knife again.
WILLOW
Are you thinking what I’m thinking?
CORDELIA
I doubt it.
WILLOW
We just break the jar!
Cordelia indicates a glass of water on the nightstand.
CORDELIA
Can you hand me that drink?
Willow is caught up with inspiration and Cordelia’s question doesn’t seem
to register.
WILLOW
That way we don’t have to magick the soul out, we just
break the glass around it.
CORDELIA
Great idea. I’m really thirsty.
WILLOW
And then Angel’s soul is still released into the ether… and
there’s something called Delothrian’s Arrow. We don’t
even need to know where the target is. Cordy, this is
fantastic! We’re going to get him back.
She turns and runs out, closing the door behind her. An instant later, the
butcher knife slams into the door right where Willow’s head was a
moment before. Cordelia sits in her bed, seething.
CUT TO:
17 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— FAITH’S ROOM— NIGHT 17
Lorne sits with Faith, tending to her.
LORNE
Don’t you worry, princess. It’ll all be over soon. I’ve seen
lots of girls go through… just what you’re going through
now..ANGEL
Orpheus
23
He looks down at her still form, then wraps her hand in his and starts to
sing softly to her.
LORNE
(sings)
There’ll be another song for me.
And I will sing it…
Oh, there’ll be another dream for me.
Someone will bring it.
CUT TO:
18 INT. HOUSTON (1973)— DONUT SHOP— NIGHT 18
Angel walks into the empty shop, his hair long, his clothes typical 70’s
attire. MacArthur Park plays on the jukebox as the CASHIER wipes down
the counter. Angel heads for the jukebox and takes out some coins as
Angelus watches from the corner.
ANGELUS
Bring on the pain!
Angel makes a selection on the jukebox and a Barry Manilow ballad starts
playing. He closes his eyes and sighs.
Disgusted, Angelus sits down in a booth across from Faith.
FAITH
Mandy, huh? It must kill you he’s got a jones for the power
ballads.
Angelus hears a buzzing near his head and swats at the air.
ANGELUS
Worse were the concerts.
A man and a woman emerge from the back and head for the door,
holding hands. Angel watches them, unable to help the bloodlust within
him. When they’re gone, he sits at the counter, his head in his hands.
ANGELUS
You know what that’s like? Every time he gets close, I feel
it. Wanting to tear their flesh apart… the hunger. It’s like a
blade in my gut!
FAITH
Only it’s not your gut, princess. Angel’s the one that
belongs on the outside. Not you..ANGEL
Orpheus
24
ANGELUS
You think it’s that cut and dry, don’t you? That if Angel
gets his soul back—
FAITH
When he gets it back.
ANGELUS
—you’ll just hang up your spurs and ride off into the
sunset, knowing you put the monster back in his cage.
But… I’m always here, Faithy. (pats his chest) Deep in.
Faith looks up as a ROBBER walks in.
CASHIER
Hi, can I help you?
The robber pulls a gun and fires at the ceiling.
ROBBER
Give me your money! Give me the cash in the drawer.
CASHIER
O… okay.
ROBBER
Open it! Now!
CASHIER
All right, all right… I… I just have to…
The cashier reaches in his pocket for the key to the register and the robber
shoots him through the chest. As the cashier drops to the floor, the robber
glances over at Angel, then bolts from the diner..ANGEL
Orpheus
25
Angel gets up and goes around the counter to help the cashier who’s
gasping and choking, a bright bloom of blood on his white uniform.
ANGEL
It’s gonna be okay. I’ll get you to a hospital. You’re gonna
be okay. Everything’s—
CASHIER
It hurts…
ANGEL
Yeah, I know.
ANGELUS
(mocking)
Doc, I think we’re losing him! God, I love this episode.
He swats at the air again as the crackling sound returns.
ANGELUS
(annoyed)
What is that buzzing?
CUT TO:
19 INT. HYPERION HOTEL (PRESENT)— CORDELIA’S ROOM— NIGHT 19
Cordelia sits on her bed, a glowing red charm resting in her palm.
CORDELIA
Hear me, Angelus. Heed my warning. Awaken at once.
Return from the darkness.
She waits a beat. Nothing happens..ANGEL
Orpheus
26
CORDELIA
Or just lay there and let that red-headed meddler put your
soul back. Whichever.
CUT TO:
20 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— LOBBY— NIGHT 20
Willow drops some herbs into a jar filled with red liquid and it starts to
smoke.
WILLOW
Look, it’s working.
WESLEY
I thought Delothrian’s Arrow was used to protect good
magicks.
WILLOW
It is.
WESLEY
So how can you use it to break the jar? The muo-ping is a
sacred object. It’s holy.
WILLOW
It’s glass, therefore crunchable. The sacred’s what’s inside.
“All life a container…”
WESLEY
“…for the heart of all life.” You’ve studied the Daharim.
WILLOW
It had to be something specific. There’s lots of jars in the
world. Can’t shatter ’em all. Well, I mean, you could but
good things come in jars. Peanut butter, jelly… those two-headed
fetal pigs at the natural history museum. (off his
look) Come on! Everybody loves fetal pigs.
WESLEY
Sorry. I think my sense of humor’s trapped in a jar
somewhere.
WILLOW
It does seem like you’ve given in to the grumpy side of the
Force..ANGEL
Orpheus
27
WESLEY
A lot’s happened. Not just Angelus. I’ve been… I’ve
changed. I’ve seen a darkness in myself. I’m not sure you’d
even begin to understand.
WILLOW
I flayed a guy alive and tried to destroy the world.
WESLEY
Oh. So…
WILLOW
Darkness. Been there.
WESLEY
Yes. Well, I never… flayed. I had a woman chained in a
closet.
WILLOW
Oh, well, hey!
WESLEY
Nah, it doesn’t compare.
WILLOW
No, dark! That’s dark. You’ve been to a place.
WESLEY
You seem exactly the same as when I left. No other major
changes I’m not up on?
Willow shakes her head, suppressing a smile.
WILLOW
Just little things. (beat) So… Fred. What’s her story?.ANGEL
Orpheus
28
Wesley looks away, then does a double take.
CUT TO:
21 INT. HOUSTON (1973)— DONUT SHOP— NIGHT 21
Angel comforts the cashier as his last breath slips away.
ANGEL
God, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.
The cashier goes limp in his arms. Angel looks down at the blood on his
uniform, then scans the shop for witnesses. He stands up and backs away,
fighting the urges within him.
ANGELUS
(to Faith)
So… who’s your big hero now?
FAITH
It wasn’t even his fault. God, does the guy gotta pay for
everything?
ANGELUS
Choices, little girl. The ones you make with your heart of
hearts.
Angel shakes his head and moves toward the door but hesitates, looking
back at the dead cashier.
ANGELUS
Uh-oh… what’s gonna happen?
FAITH
He won’t..ANGEL
Orpheus
29
Angel pulls the door shut and locks it, then goes back to the cashier’s
body.
ANGELUS
I’m deep in, Faith. Soul or no soul.
FAITH
Angel!
His face shifts and he sinks his fangs into the cashier, drinking deeply.
Faith shakes her head, revolted, then winces and puts her fingers to her
own neck. They come away bloody.
FAITH
He was going to save him.
ANGELUS
Or did he choose to be a little slow on the draw? Whoops!
Dinner by armed robbery. Look at him, Faith. You’re a
murderer. You know just how good that blurry line tastes.
You didn’t think my hell was private, did ya?
Angel raises his head from the cashier’s neck with a tormented scream.
FADE OUT
Act III
22 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— FAITH’S ROOM— NIGHT 22
Faith moans softly and tosses her head back and forth while Lorne sits
next to her holding her hand. Connor watches from a chair across the
room..ANGEL
Orpheus
30
LORNE
She’s in the barrens now. They cry for a while. Quiet
mostly. Like they’re letting go of everything that meant
something.
CONNOR
How long… till…?
LORNE
Not long. You can hold her hand.
Connor considers for a moment, then gets up. Before he can take Faith’s
hand, Wesley enters and looks down at Faith writhing on the bed,
unconscious and moaning.
CONNOR
Wesley, you did the right thing. She was brave and she
died in battle.
Wesley stares at Faith a moment, his face an emotionless mask, then turns
to Connor.
WESLEY
It’s time.
He turns and walks out. After a moment, Connor follows.
CUT TO:
23 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— LOBBY— NIGHT 23
Holding a white candle, Fred walks through the lobby ringing a small bell
while Willow watches. As Fred passes by, Willow corrects her posture,
lifting Fred’s chin..ANGEL
Orpheus
31
WILLOW
You’re good. Good bells.
Fred laughs and continues on while Willow goes over to the counter
where Gunn and the rest of the spell ingredients are waiting. She smiles at
Gunn and holds up a small silver sphere about the size of a pinball.
WILLOW
Okay, now all I’ve got to do is contact the spirit world,
harness the Delothrian ebb, focus it through my little
marble o’doom here and we’ll restore the muo-ping’s
entropic equilibrium.
GUNN
Jar go smash?
WILLOW
Smash-o-crash.
GUNN
All I need to know.
He looks over at the monitor and Angelus lying chained inside the cage.
GUNN
I’ll be downstairs in case the prince of darkness wakes up.
He heads for the stairs as Wesley enters.
WESLEY
Are you ready?
WILLOW
(nods)
Should be a snap.
A bright flash of red energy suddenly erupts in front of Willow and hurls
her across the length of the lobby.

He wants to stop us from getting the soul.
Willow holds up her hand, the sphere resting in the center of her palm,
and begins the incantation..ANGEL

Faithy?
Faith stands up and looks around warily, trying to pinpoint where
Angelus’ voice is coming from.
ANGELUS
(o.s.)
Is that the nasty little lie that kept those thighs nice and
warm in your prison bunk?
FAITH
You kiss your mama with that mouth?
ANGELUS
(o.s.)
No, but I ate her with it.
She spins around to find him lying on his back in the alley behind her. He

A sudden clattering of garbage cans behind them and Angel appears,
chasing after a rat.
ANGELUS
Him not being one of ’em.
Angel seizes the rat and bites into it, draining the squealing creature dry.
FAITH
Ugh… when is this?
ANGELUS
When isn’t it? Twenty years after that stupid donut shop
and his fingers never smelled of anything but rat! “I’m so

CORDELIA
Okay, then… huge floaty head not enough to scare you?
Then why don’t we try—
Willow’s sphere suddenly whips into the room and shoots straight toward
the muo-ping. Cordelia’s hand flies up and she stops it inches from the
glass jar. She holds her hand out palm-first and the sphere hovers in place,
straining to get to the jar but held back by Cordelia’s force of will.

CORDELIA
Oh, shit!
CUT TO:
46 EXT. LOS ANGELES (1994)— ALLEY— NIGHT 46
Angelus looks at Angel, realization dawning.
ANGELUS
I don’t believe this. You’re the one behind this whole true
Hollywood sob story?
FAITH
(smiles)
Angel, it’s good to see you. Hate the hair.
ANGEL
Faith, why are you still here?
FAITH
Just waiting to see this pervert get stuffed back into the
deep crazy ground he came from.
ANGEL
And then what? After that, what happens?
Angelus drop-kicks Faith into the side of the building.
ANGELUS
Probably something like that. I had a feeling the rules had
changed.
Angel walks toward Angelus and squares off with him.
ANGEL
She’s not who you’re after..ANGEL

ANGEL
Faith, wake up! Are you listening?
FAITH
Angel, I’m dying…
ANGEL
Yeah, it’s a lot easier than redemption, huh?

ANGELUS
It’s no big mystery. They suffer, they die. That’s what
they’re there for.
Angel tackles Angelus and this time it’s Angelus who gets thrown across
the alley and into the wall.
ANGEL
I’m not perfect, Faith. Even with a soul I’ve done things
I’ve wished a thousand times I could take back.
Angelus gets up and gut punches Angel.
ANGELUS
Yeah, like those Manilow concerts, you son of a bitch!
Angel careens into a stack of garbage barrels and tumbles to the ground.

the side and smashes a vase over his head. He cries out in pain and
Cordelia helps him into the room.
CORDELIA
Oh, Connor! I’m so sorry! I thought it came back… that
horrible floaty head..ANGEL
Orpheus
43
CONNOR
(alarmed)
Did it hurt you? Is the baby—?
CORDELIA
(tearful)
We nearly got killed.
CONNOR
Willow’s spell must have opened a gateway to something.
CORDELIA
Evil. If she keeps at it, there’s no telling what will happen.
She’s already let hell itself into this hotel.
CONNOR
I know. I’ve seen it. It’s not safe for you here. I’m going to
make her stop.
He turns to go but Cordelia stops him.
CORDELIA
Connor, you can’t! She’s too powerful. But you can stop
it… the reason for all of this. You have to kill Angelus.
CUT TO:
51 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— LOBBY— NIGHT 51
The Orb of Thesulah rests on the counter surrounded by candles within a
sacred circle. Wesley stands to one side and waves burning incense over
the orb. Fred stands on the other with an open book of spells.
FRED
So now Angel’s soul is just floating around out there?
WILLOW
Yeah, until I can channel it into the Orb of Thesulah.
FRED
Connor shouldn’t have run off like that.
WESLEY
I’m sure he’s just worried about Cordelia.
FRED
Do you ever think their relationship is maybe a little bit…

54 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— CORDELIA’S ROOM— NIGHT 54
CORDELIA
You know I have fought harder than anyone to save
Angel’s life but there comes a time when you have to
weigh risk versus reward and as much as I love Angel as a
friend, killing Angelus now is the only way to guarantee
our family’s safety.
CUT TO:
55 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— BASEMENT— NIGHT 55
Gunn paces in front of the cell where Angelus lies chained and
unconscious.
CORDELIA
(v.o.)
I know it in my heart now. You’re not just protecting me,
you’re protecting the world.
CUT TO:
56 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— FAITH’S ROOM— NIGHT 56

Faith than the fight.
ANGEL
Faith! Wake up!
Her eyes reluctantly open.
FAITH
(weak)
I’ve rolled the bones. You for me.
Angel decks Angelus and sends him reeling to the ground..ANGEL
Orpheus
46
ANGEL
I used to think that. That there’d be a point when I’d paid
my dues.
Angelus stands up, an iron pipe in his hand. He cracks Angel in the head
with it.
ANGELUS
Anybody notice a battle with your alter ego going on
here?
CUT TO:
58 INT. HYPERION HOTEL (PRESENT)— CORRIDOR— NIGHT 58

CORDELIA
(v.o.)
They can’t stop you if they don’t know.
CONNOR
(v.o.)
What about the sanctuary spell?
CORDELIA
(v.o.)
I can fix it. We’re special, Connor.
CUT TO:
59 INT. HYPERION HOTEL— LOBBY— NIGHT 59
Willow continues with the incantation. Her eyes are obsidian now, the
power flowing through her, building.
WILLOW
Te implor, Doamne, nu ignora aceasta rugaminte. Lasa orbita sa

Lord, do not ignore this request. Let this orb be the vessel

60 EXT. LOS ANGELES (1994)— ALLEY— NIGHT 60
Angel and Angelus are still fighting. Angel picks up Angelus and hurls
him face-first into a brick wall. Angelus crumples to the ground, stunned
and barely conscious. Angel goes over to Faith and pulls her to him. She’s
hanging on by a thread, almost dead.
ANGEL
Faith, listen to me. You saw me drink. It doesn’t get much
lower than that… and I thought I could make up for it by
disappearing.
FAITH
I did… my time.
ANGEL
Our time is never up, Faith. We pay for everything.
FAITH
It hurts…
ANGEL
(tender)
I know… I know.

Angel leans over Faith, trying to keep her conscious.
ANGEL

Get up. You have to get up now, Faith. You have to fight. I
need you to fight.
Behind him, Angelus gets to his feet.
ANGEL
You understand what I’m saying?
Angelus kicks him viciously.
ANGELUS
What won’t I miss?
He swings the metal pipe and connects with Angel’s chest.
ANGELUS
The moralizing. Soul’s already in the ether, boy-o. I can
smell it. How about I send it off to that big puppy rescue in
the sky?
FAITH
(o.s.)
Arf, arf, psycho.
Angelus turns around to find Faith on her feet and standing behind him.
ANGELUS
(chuckles)
Faith… getting back into the game?

CUT TO:
66 EXT. LOS ANGELES (1994)— ALLEY— NIGHT 66

Bright crimson light streams from their eyes and mouths. Angelus
screams with rage as he is drawn into and absorbed by Angel..ANGEL

CUT TO:
67 INT. HYPERION HOTEL (PRESENT)— BASEMENT— NIGHT 67
Still unconscious, Angel lies on the floor of the cage with Connor leaning

CONNOR
I’m pretty clear about what you need.
He raises a stake over Angel’s chest and brings it down for the killing
blow… but his hand is stopped in mid-arc by Faith.
FAITH
Break me off a switch, son…
She yanks him to his feet and slams him into the cage bars.
FAITH
…there’s about to be a whuppin’.
Connor punches her but the blow doesn’t faze her. She decks him, throws
him out of the cage and proceeds to give him a sound thrashing. He tries
to fight back but it’s obvious he’s no match for a Slayer.
Lorne runs in with Fred and Wesley and stops at the top of the stairs,
amazed.
LORNE
She’s alive… it’s a miracle!.ANGEL
Orpheus
51
Faith picks Connor up and hurls him across the basement. He staggers to
his feet and attacks again. She kicks him up against the bars of the cage
and Angel reaches through them and holds him back.
ANGEL
Connor, it’s over. It’s me. Really.
Connor slumps back against the cage, the will to fight gone.

68 EXT. HYPERION HOTEL— SOLARIUM— NIGHT 68
Angel stands in the garden, looking up at the night sky. The door behind
him opens and Faith joins him.
FAITH
Hey.
ANGEL
How are you feeling?
FAITH
Like I did mushrooms and got eaten by a bear.
ANGEL
That about sums it up.
FAITH
Yep.
ANGEL
And now you’re going to Sunnydale.
FAITH
I think I prefer the bear but the way Willow talks it up,
that’s where I’m needed.
ANGEL
We never stop fighting.
FAITH
(smiles)
Hey, I was gonna but someone got all pep-talky on me.
ANGEL
Yeah. I’m sorry I didn’t get to see you… our little brain-tour
notwithstanding..ANGEL
Orpheus
52
FAITH
Another time.
ANGEL
I have a lot to thank you for.
FAITH
Well, that vice is plenty versa. Don’t even start. It’s only
gonna lead to hugging and…
ANGEL
No, we can’t have that.
FAITH
(laughs)
No.
They turn and walk back into the hotel.
69 EXT. HYPERION HOTEL— LOBBY— NIGHT 69
Wesley is there with Gunn who stands over Connor, glaring at him.
CONNOR
All right, I get it. I messed up.
Faith punches him playfully on the shoulder.
FAITH
Hey, cheer up, punk. That just makes you one of us.
She turns to Gunn and slaps his hand.
GUNN
You headed out?.ANGEL
Orpheus
53
FAITH
Yeah, no tears, big guy.
GUNN
Nah, I’m good. I just wish I could’ve seen you kicking the
crap out of junior here.
FAITH
(smiles)
It was pretty funny.
She walks over to Wesley and Angel.
FAITH
Wes.
WESLEY
Faith.
FAITH
(to Angel)
See? Brits know how to say goodbye. (to Wesley) Angel
here wanted to hug.
ANGEL
No, I didn’t..ANGEL
Orpheus
54
FAITH
(to Wesley)
You ran a good show.
GUNN
Yeah, sit back and let the girl do all the heavy lifting.
Wesley nods and smiles slightly despite himself.
WESLEY
That’s pretty much it.
Fred and Willow enter from the office. Willow carries a large leather-bound
book, a gift from Fred.
FRED
I think that volume’s outdated. You’d know better than
me but there’s some interesting stuff about Hellmouths. It
might help.
WILLOW
(impressed)
This is great..ANGEL
Orpheus
55
FRED
I have to say, someday I’d love to bend your ear about the
Pergamum Codex. I think some of the really obscure
passages are actually Latin translated from a demonic
tongue and they’re kind of a hoot. All this stuff about
bacchanals and spells and— actually, I think it’s probably
funnier in Latin. You know how that is sometimes.
WILLOW
I’m seeing someone.
Fred looks at Willow curiously, not sure what to make of that comment,
as Faith heads for the door.
FAITH
Time goes by, Will.
WILLOW
Okay. Good. Wagons west. See you guys.
ANGEL
Willow.
FAITH
(to Willow)
He’s gonna tell you how much he owes you.
WILLOW
(to Angel)
Oh, don’t mention it. I got a Slayer out of the deal so we’re
even-steven.
She walks over and hugs Angel.
WILLOW
I’ll tell Buffy you said hi.
ANGEL
Good. Thanks.
She heads for the door with Faith, then stops and turns back.
WILLOW
Oh, next time you guys resurrect Angelus… call me first,
okay?.ANGEL
Orpheus
56
Faith opens the door and waves goodbye and they both head out into the
night. Angel looks after them for a moment, then turns to the others.
ANGEL
So we’re back.
WESLEY
It would seem.
ANGEL
Look, I know things have been—
CORDELIA
(o.s.)
Sorry, Angel, but if this is the speech about how the worst
is behind us…
All eyes turn to Cordelia as she descends the stairs now extremely
pregnant and wearing a provocative black outfit..ANGEL
Orpheus
57
CORDELIA
…you may want to save it for later.
Angel can only stare at her in shock as she stands before them resting her
hands on the swell of her belly.
