ANGELIANS:
A wise fan wrote in, asking:
What can we do-- Is just writing letters enough? Seems like it's starting to be ignored what fans do. Execs just figure it's the internet culture fueling save-random-tv-show-of-the-day.
You're correct: letter writing is not enough. Sending postcards is not enough. Nor is buying an ad in Variety. We have to get the next episode's ratings up from the last. That's the clearest message we can send to the network. How do we do it? By making our voices heard in the media-- on the airwaves and in the press. For this next five days until Wednesday's showing, we need to be doing everything we can to get more people to watch.
One such project is Kyle Webb's "media guerilla tactic" of taking over MTV's Total Request Live. From March 1 to the 5, he's proposed that fans push ANGEL-related songs to get the word out. Read more about it in this original post.
But, don't forget about your local radio call-in shows. You can get on the comments line to say you'd like to talk about, for example, reality TV, or the lack of quality family programming... and slip in "oh, and by the way, there's this great show we love to watch called ANGEL that's getting cancelled by The WB because not enough people see it. We wish more people knew about it, because it's really become a part of our lives...It's on next week Wednesday at 9."
Because here's the news, Angelians: We MUST get the viewership for the next episode up-up-UP.
To me, it's the "Big One" -- the last shot we're going to have to make an impression on the minds of the networks. Why? Because it's the last ANGEL episode during the all-important Nielsen February Sweeps. In fact, it's on the LAST day of the Sweeps -- March 3. The Sweeps set the advertising rates for the local networks, and thus create an economic "value." Every fractional ratings point means more $ for a network in sponsorship.
So start coming up with ways to get more public attention and interest in watching next week's show. Post them in the Discussion Forums Campaign Ideas & Strategies.
THIS IS THE ULTIMATE PRIORITY.
This is your call to action.
