“Buffy” fans will celebrate “The Slayer”
For seven years the television show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” entertained millions of people all over the world. On April 24, 2004, “Buffy” fans of all ages in Chandler and surrounding cities are invited to attend a unique event at the Chandler Public Library.

“On Patrol in Chandler, AZ: A gathering of Watchers, A celebration of The Slayer,” will be held from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the second floor of the downtown library, 22 S. Delaware St.

Festivities include a costume and look-a-like contest, trivia contests, writing and poetry contests, arts and crafts contests, and showings of some of the best episodes from the seven seasons of “Buffy.” Contest rules and entry information are on the Chandler Library Web site at www.chandlerlibrary.org.

The keynote speaker for the event is Bill Goodykoontz, the television critic for the Arizona Republic, who has been an avid “Buffy” fan since it premiered and who helped introduced many others to the show through his column.

The event is free and food and beverages will be available for purchase in “Pages” the library coffee shop. There will also be prize raffles with tickets available for purchase. Local businesses that would like to contribute raffle or door prizes or sponsor portions of the event can call (480) 782-2701 for more details. All proceeds from this event will benefit the library’s Youth Programs, which help give local teenagers positive social and learning opportunities.

People who have never seen a “Buffy” episode or are just casual fans can attend and learn more about the appeal of the show and its characters. The show has spawned thousands of Web sites, hundreds of fan clubs, dozens of books, numerous conventions, several music CDs and some of the best-selling DVD collections on the charts.

The City of Chandler Public Library, and the Friends of the Chandler Public Library are the sponsors of “On Patrol in Chandler, AZ”. For more information, contact Craig Younger at (480) 782-2701.
