"Kendra" as you've never seen her before

Exclusively from Stuff Magazine

Better known as Kendra from Season Two of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bianca Lawson dresses down in this months lads magazine Stuff.

Where you’ve seen her: Hip-hopping mad at Julia Stiles in Save the Last Dance and handling wood as sexy-slayer Kendra on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Where you’ll see her next: Ditching her beau for the best man in Breakin’ All the Rules and checking into the new horror flick, Dead & Breakfast.

Bianca Lawson isn’t really a bitch. She just plays one on TV (and in movies). She was Kendra, the kick-ass slayer on Buffy; a finger-waving bee-yotch in Save the Last Dance; and in her new flick, Breakin’ All the Rules, she’s a nightmare fiancée who dumps her guy at their engagement party and runs off to Paris with his best man. On the day Stuff caught up with her, she’d just auditioned for a unique, breakout role: a bitchy alien from hell. “I always play the one you love to hate,” Bianca says, shrugging it off. “It certainly wouldn’t be bad to [play myself] one time.” Turns out, the real Bianca is a cheery little thing who loves animals, orchids and The Golden Girls. But good girls don’t sell movies—or magazines—so pretend you didn’t just read that.

STUFF: Are guys intimidated because they think you’re like the nasty characters you play?
BIANCA: Probably. At first, they usually get an attitude to show me they’re tougher than me, or they’re very respectful. Then they get to know me and realize that I’m a complete nerd and kind of a girlie girl. I love romantic comedies and Disney cartoons. I love mushy songs like “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover.”

You get cast in tons of horror movies and TV shows. What gives?
I have a good scream.

Do you train a lot for that?
I don’t like to practice at home, because that scares the neighbors. But I’ll practice a few times in my car on the way [to the audition], just to make sure my scream is ready to go. Unfortunately, in Bones, I had a really bad cold and was hoarse the day I had to scream, so it came out really retarded.

Bianca also appeared on Fox earlier today to promote her new movie Breakin' All The Rules:

Fox: I read a quote where you said that you always play bad girls that we love to hate and your new movie Breaking All The Rules sounds more of the same. Can you tell us about the part?

Bianca: She’s not the nicest person on the planet but I think with her there is no malice. She’s just very self involved.

Fox: She steals away somebodys husband, right?

Bianca: No. I leave my fiancée at our engagement party because I run away to Paris with the Best Man but I feel like I’m doing a very loving thing for him because our relationship isn’t perfect and exciting.

Fox: What about Stuff magazine? There are some pretty sexy shots there! Is it intimidating; do you get nervous to pose like that for a laddie magazine as they call it?

Bianca: No, I was very comfortable with the people involved; the photographer and the hair and make-up people. I think when you’re very comfortable and you like what you’re wearing, it’s nice. It’s liberating and fun. It’s fun to look sexy every once in a while because I don’t look like that in my normal life so it was good. I had a really good time.

Fox: I mentioned Buffy. You played Kendra. It must have been very cool to be a part of such a big cult hit like that show

Bianca: Oh my God. When I was on it, I had no idea of the following. It was so long ago and every day someone says something to me, “Oh my God, you were that girl from Buffy!” I had such a good time and I loved doing all the physical stuff.

Fox: You were cast originally as Cordelia which was a really big part that went to Charisma Carpenter, but you were doing another show called Good Behaviour which was short lived but I guess that’s how things go in the business.

Bianca: Yeah, you never know. You absolutely never know. There are things you think are going to be the biggest, hugest thing on the planet and it’s very short lived like you said, and then there are things you do that’s fun but you don’t think anyone is gonna see it and that’s the thing that blows you up.

Fox: Both parents actors and I read that your Great Uncle is Motown legend Barry Gordy. Did you grow up with Stevie Wonder and other famous folk around the house that you rubbed shoulders with?

Bianca: Not around the house! I go to family parties and family functions and you run into people but more so when I was younger. When you’re a little kid you’re not fully aware of who you’re meeting. I think people think it’s like I go into the kitchen and Madonna’s in there or anything like that, but no. It was very, very normal. I didn’t notice it until I was older and people would tell me how exciting is was.

Breakin' All The Rules is released on April 30th in US.
