James Marsters appeared on The Sharon Osbourne Show this week where he was presented with a cake from the Angel Food Drive.
There was no getting away from the subject of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the show that launched James into the public eye as the much loved vampire Spike. When his agent first approached him about the role, James admitted to saying,"whatever," but after catching an episode on the advice of his agent, he admitted to being stunned by the show. James revealed he just babbled on the phone to his agent during a discussion about reading for the role of Spike. He believed the role would be a few lines but after receiving a script, he was delighted to find out that Spike was a major player. He never thought he'd play the character for so long. The rest is history....
The interview then led to Angel and it's sudden cancellation that James described as "disheartening". He said, "We got all these great story lines out there in the beginning through the middle of the season, and then we got caught with our pants down. However, this next episode is great and the best! Basically Angel and Spike go trudging through Italy and get made fools of. It's fantastic."
James went on to comment on his co-star Amy Acker. "[She] is the best," he said. "At first I thought she was like Fred, I was proven wrong, she's wonderful."
The Angel finale is looming but James ended on a postive note saying, "Even though the show is ending, the fans will feel very fullfilled, especially since we got such short notification on cancellation."
James then joined his band, Ghost of the Robot on stage to perform a number.
