"This is taking longer to write than things usually do, and there's some reasons for that," said Whedon. "Not all of them are my incredible incompetence. But some of them are. But the script is coming together in a way that's actually even surprising me, so I'm pretty excited. So we'll just have to wait."
Despite the difficulties, Whedon has already turned in a draft of his script to the film's producers, who include Joel Silver. Among Silver's many credits are "Predator," "The Matrix" and "V for Vendetta."
"I'm working on revisions now," said Whedon. "It's business as usual. I'm writing and that's all."
Whedon said that no start date for production can be announced until the script is approved by the studio. He has yet to show it to them.
In an interview with iF Magazine, though, he did reveal a vague hint about the script's content.
"I am not bringing in any villains that anyone knows," Whedon said. "I will not be bringing in any of the rogues gallery from the comic book. The villain is original to the film."
"Wonder Woman" is tentatively scheduled for release in 2007.
