The 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' star's acceptance of the role alongside Astin apparently carried enough clout for producers to agree to go ahead with the baseball film after shooting delays had previously prompted a cast walk-out.
'The Final Season' follows the story of a baseball fan who leaves his job and cancels his wedding plans in order to take on the highly challenging job of head coach of a high school baseball team.
Astin, who made his name playing Frodo's sidekick Sam Gamgee in the 'Lord Of The Rings' trilogy, has stayed loyal to the film despite the walk-out of the previous cast and is set to begin production alongside Dushku, Tom Arnold, Powers Boothe and his real-life brother Mackenzie.
