"It was iconic, it was daring and it changed the face of advertising. The whole idea of actually having a storyline that people hooked into was revolutionary so it was good to be involved in that.
"It certainly opened doors in America which was perfect as I needed to change peoples' perceptions on me here."
Head went on to star in Buffy, the runaway TV hit with Sarah Michelle Gellar as well as a plum role as the Prime Minister in hit comedy Little Britain.
He was also recently involved in a charity production of the Rocky Horror Show, when it returned to London's Royal Court Theatre where it first hit the stage in 1973.
