Review ofI’ve Got You Under My Skin

Whoa! (that's a technical term) Talk about your dark and edgy. Well I asked for it and I apparently got it. This ep could have gone a lot of different ways, different in a bad way, but the good thing was they didn't hold to one theme throughout the show. I think if they had stuck with the 'exorcist' storyline we would have gotten board by the third act, so cheers to Jeannine who also wrote the Teleplay!

The only thing 'light' about the entire ep was Cordy's one liners. They weren't out of place, you needed a lift every now and then and after all, she's Cordy so I liked them. I would consider this the deepest ep as far as material. It didn't rank with the tearjerker quality as 'I Will Remember You', but the emotional level here was intense. Thus the title, the demon gets into Wesley's head via his Watcher insecurities and also revealing those he holds of his father. As well as Angel's sense of guilt over the death of Doyle. It was interesting that Angel's character is staying true to the development originally set for him, that he is uncomfortable around people, as shown when he's with the family.

The most curious thing that hit me was Angel's interaction with Ryan, he smiles, laughs, jokes, this is so not the Angel we know and it's very refreshing to watch him develop from our brooding BtVS Angel. Very impressed with the horror level, the demons attack on Wesley and the awareness of the Nun in church of Angel. So, I rate this one higher than expected, maybe, due to it's 'wholesome goodness' all around!

I give it . . .

Angel: Cordelia, just put down the very sharp knife.

Cordelia: I think Mr. "Too much cologne" is the pot calling the kettle stinky.

Angel: Cordelia! Doyle! [pause] I mean, um, Wesley. [pause again] Wesley. Let's just, um...no more fighting, all right?

Cordelia: You called him Doyle.
Angel: It just happened. I hope Wesley's okay with it.

Cordelia: Oh, who cares about him? This is about Doyle. You never say his name.
Angel: I say it.
Cordelia: No, you don't. Look, you don't have to be Joe Stoic about his dying. I mean, I know that you have this unflappable vibe working for you, but...you don't have to do that for me.

Angel: I'm not unflappable.
Cordelia: Great! So flap.

Paige: I think the angels are around us all the time, don't you?
Angel: I-I think, um...there are...beings.

Stephanie: Angel's funny.
Seth: Yeah? He hides it well.

Angel: Wesley, you don't even have sales resistance. How many Thigh Masters do you own?
Wesley: The second one was a free gift with my buns of steel.

Ethros Demon/Ryan: Guess who's here, Angel? He's talking to me right now. Doyle wants to ask you why you couldn't protect him.

Ethros Demon: Do you know what the most frightening thing in the world is? Nothing. That's what I found in the boy. No conscience, no fear, no humanity. Just a black void. I couldn't control him. I couldn't get out. I never even manifested him until you brought me forth. I just sat there and watched as he destroyed everything around him. Not from a belief in evil, not for any reason at all...That boy's mind was the blackest hell I've ever known.

Cordelia: We can watch or play cards. You'll get caught up, won't even hear your son's pain.

Cordelia: Looks the same. Handcrafted by blind Tibetan monks?
Rick: (magick shop salesman) Pieced together by mute Chinese nuns. Now that's craftsmanship.

Wesley: Angel. Before we go any further, I just want to assure you, in as much as we will be fighting side-by-side...What that demon said before--
Angel: I know you're not planning to kill me, Wesley. But you're willing to, and that's good.
