He had known she would hate him. Just hadn't expected it to last. Had thought she'd understand he'd had no choice. But she wasn't the Slayer now, just a sister. Reality didn't matter while grieving. He'd known that once; had taken on three of the most dangerous vampires with nothing but a torch and a grieving heart. How could he expect forgiveness for destroying what was left of her family? How could he expect her to put the world first – again? No, he'd have to accept that in the eyes of his Slayer he was forever the monster - not the savior.
