buffy summers and scott hope
It’s a few months after Buffy killed Angel, and she is still expelled from High School. She is sitting eating a picnic with Willow, Xander, Oz and Cordelia when Willow notes Scott Hope is near by and wanted to ask her out last year, but Buffy wasn’t ready then. Scott walks past and says hi and they smile at each other. Willow and Xander note that Buffy did a half smile she does to boys she likes.

Buffy also adds she does want to get back to normal things, including dating.

Later at The Bronze, Scott comes over to them and gives away that Willow told him what time they would be there. He asks her to dance, but she turns him down. She tells Willow and Oz she doesn’t think she is ready.

Later, when Faith meets Scott and begins to chat him up, Buffy shows signs of jealously, that Faith is taking over her life, including her non-boyfriend, but still shows signs of not wanting to get into a relationship, after her last one went so bad. He spots her later in the corridor, and asks her out for one last time.

Scott: “Think of this as my last-ditch effort. I realize that one more is gonna qualify as stalking.”

Buffy accepts the offer to go to a Buster Keaton festival, and a relieved Scott gives her a gift, a Claddagh ring. Buffy drops in on the floor, obviously upset and shocked. He takes the rings and tells her he gets the message. Giles appears on the hallway and sees her standing looking shell-shocked. She wipes her tears away and changes the subject.

Buffy finally realises it’s time to lay Angel to rest, tells Willow and Giles the full story of what happened and goes to find Scott. She explains in the best way she can why the ring freaked her out, and they make plans to go and see Buster Keaton. Later that day, she goes to Angel’s mansion to leave the Claddagh ring he bought her on the floor. As soon as she is gone, Angel falls to the floor from a portal above.

Faith and Buffy are later talking about Scott, and Buffy admits she doesn’t have sexual feelings toward him, but he is very nice and funny.

Later, Scott stops Buffy in the corridor and introduces her to his friends Pete and Debby

Buffy: “Those are pretty flowers.”

Debbie: “Thanks. Pete brought them for me.”

Buffy: Pete: “Yeah. Well, I-I'm sure Scott does that kind of stuff for you, too, Buffy.”

Scott: “Oh, well, we're not up to flowers. Are we? Up to flowers? Did I miss flowers?”

Buffy: “No. We're pre-posy. Definitely.”

Buffy finds Angel on patrol, and ties him up in the mansion. She researches into how he could have come back, and Giles offers his opinion.

Buffy later has lunch with the Scott, Debbie and Pete, and tells them she didn’t sleep well. Her mind is obviously elsewhere (on Angel) and she bails early.

Pete: Check out Scotty liking the manic-depressive chick

It later turns out Pete has a Jekyll and Hyde personality, and he takes a drink to make him into some kind of demon, and is abusive to Debbie. He kills Debbie, and tries to kill Buffy, but Angel saves her and snaps his neck.

Buffy tries to comfort him the next day.

Buffy: “Is there anything I can do?”

Scott: “Thanks. I'm gonna be okay. It's just that you never really know what's going on inside somebody. Do you? I mean, you think... if you care about them... But you never really do.”

It’s a little while later, and Buffy and her friends are discussing the Homecoming dance. Willow realises Scott hasn’t asked Buffy yet, but stops herself from saying something in front of him. Cordelia, full of tact, asks bluntly in front of him. Scott confesses he thought Buffy would think it was corny, but would like to go if she does.

Later Buffy tells Angel, who is slowly getting back to health, about Scott. She needs to put some kind of distance between them, to stop the events of the previous year.

Buffy: “His name is Scott. He's a nice, solid guy. He makes me happy... and that's what I need: someone I can count on.”

The next day Scott breaks up with her, because she seems distracted all the time. She says she will stop being distracted, but he says sorry and leaves her.

Later on, when she is running for Homecoming Queen, he promises to vote for her.

At the Homecoming dance, Faith spots him dancing with another girl and decides to embarrass him.

Faith: “Scott? There you are, honey! Hey, good news. The doctor says that the itching and the swelling and the burning should clear up, but we gotta keep using the ointment.”

Four years later, Buffy bumps into a guy called Holden Webster, who went to Sunnydale High. He offers her some interesting news.

Holden: “A lot of kids thought you were dating some really old guy, or that you were just heavy religious. Scott Hope said you were gay.”

Buffy: “What? I dated that ringworm.

Holden: “He says that about every girl he breaks up with. And then last year, big surprise, he comes out.”

Buffy: “Do I know how to pick 'em.”
