the buffy/angel enemy

I don't know if you noticed but I’m mostly an Buffy/Angel shipper. I don't have a problem with other pairings and do love many of the non-b/a storylines and websites even, it’s just my preference is them and in the end I believe they should be together. But anyway this section is just about "The enemy" when it comes to Buffy and Angel's relationship, as in the people who pose some kind of threat to their happiness together.

Faith - In my opinion Faith was one of the main female oppositions between Buffy and Angel. She was a bad girl, and boy could she dance! When she first heard of angel she was against them and thought it weird for Buffy to have been in love with him and that she should deal and move on. When Buffy asked her “What do you know about Angel” she replied “Just, what your friends told me. Big love. Big loss, gotta deal and move on but you’re not.” Then when Faith finally met angel she tried to kill him. Let’s just say that things didn’t get off to a good start. Faith, for all her faults was just trying to help Buffy move on and have some fun. The main episode when Faith makes her feelings known for Angel was one of my favourites, Enemies. She makes her move and tries to return him to his former evil self, Angelus. All in all, faith had it in for Buffy and Angel’s relationship from the beginning and she did all in her power to ruin it. She even managed to do it again when she visited Angel in the episodes “5 by 5” and “Sanctuary”. In Buffy’s words, “Faith wins again”. But we know that this isn’t’ true because angel came to Sunnydale and apologized to Buffy for what he had said. In truth, faith never wins and we have to give her credit for trying, but sympathy for losing.

Riley - Definitely my most hated character as most of your would probably know!! I suppose I blame him for dating Buffy and stealing any possible chance with angel away from Buffy but he’s such a whingeing annoying prick!! I have to say one of my favourite scenes from season 4 is when Angel kicks his ass and when Angel say’s “You think you can stop me” and Riley says “I surely do”. I mean come on, what kind of country boy crap is that, I surely do. I’m so glad Farm boy finally went back to the country to raise sheep!!! Ok so I know he didn’t really but it’s a nice fantasy. He may have thought he loved Buffy and found it hard to leave her but they never had what Buffy and angel will always have! Anyway he got married to another woman! That’s really love!!

Xander - Unrequited love can be so cruel. Poor old Xander, so many years so much rejection. He never really was a real threat to Angel and Buffy yet angel still got so jealous of him and they never formed a friendship because of this. Even though Buffy rejected Xander and never wanted him he still managed to have a string of attractive girlfriends so it isn't all bad for Xander!

Darla - Darla was trying to spilt Buffy and angel up before they even started. Although it didn’t really work as angel already kicked that ass before she had a chance!.. Or so he thought! When Darla was brought back by wolfram and hart she was set to cause a lot of trouble for angel... and she did! She's one of the few other women that angel's had sex with since Buffy and he certainly paid for that mistake with the non-birth of their child and her suicide! There’s always complicated relationships where there’s history between the two and there is plenty of that with Darla and angel. He never loved her but she was definitely a very prominent female figure in his life and he will never forget her. Who knows, they might even bring her back... again!! It could happen!!!

Cordy - Well when Cordy was in Sunnydale she was nowhere near a threat to Angel because she was such a bitch but boy it didn’t stop her from trying and making Buffy very jealous. She seemed to give in after season 1 and concentrated on Xander amongst other things. When she came over to LA and worked for Angel I really liked the friendship relationship they had and it was all good until she cut her hair and started fancying him! I really disagree with the C/A pairing. I think they ruined something sacred which is friendship. They should never have come up with that story line and it really pisses me off! Anyway she did pose a semi threat to them but she turned all evil and then died so hey ho!

Spike - Spike was actually a rather large threat onto their relationship. I loved it when he first started having those dreams about Buffy and was obsessed with her. Made for some rather comical viewing! I liked their relationship a bit but only after he got his soul back in season 7 because it was quite sweet then and more real. I didn’t really like it when they were sleeping together when she hated him because I didn’t feel like that was something that Buffy would really do. Also the whole rape thing wasn’t nice to watch either. I also think that their relationship in season 6 was a bad message to be sending out to the younger viewers of Buffy, that abusive relationships were alright. However season 7 I liked. He definitely posed a great threat and Angel was aware of this when he came to visit Buffy in "End of Days". She didn’t love him but he was in her heart and that makes him special. Angel would still kick his ass though! :p

Fred - A lovely person e-mailed me and pointed out that I should add Fred to this list and rightly so! Fred and Angel never had a physical relationship but there was a connection there at the beginning. Fred had been a slave in another dimension for years and Angel came along and rescued her and brought her back to LA. He looked after her and tried to help her adjust back to the world she was from. There were no feelings on Angel's part but Fred definitely saw him as her "White knight" and had a big crush on him. She would only come out of her room when he made her and she clearly was infatuated with him at the start. Cordelia felt that she had to intervene and tell Angel of Fred's feelings as he was too much of a man to notice! Fred soon realised that these feelings were not felt by Angel and she got quite jealous when he went off to meet with Buffy when she had been brought back from the dead! Luckily she passed through this phase and moved onto Gunn and Wesley.

Scott - Another lovely person e-mailed me and pointed out that I should add Scott as a Buffy/Angel enemy. Scott was introduced at the beginning of season three. Buffy thought that Angel was in hell and would remain gone forever. Everyone was trying to convince Buffy that she needed to start dating and that Scott liked her. After a lot of persuasion Buffy agreed to date Scott, and then Angel returned. She told Angel she was seeing somebody and you could see that he was heart broken :( However Buffy's relationship with Scott didn’t last, he broke up with her just before homecoming. We later found out that Scott is actually gay, from vamp Holden Webster in season 7. So no real future threat there then! ;)

Parker - He met Buffy in season 4 when she was a freshman and basically used her shamelessly. She was trying to move on after Angel left and met parker. She slept with him, thinking they had a relationship, and then he just ignored her calls. Buffy went into depression over-drive as usual but overcame her broken heart when she turned into a cave girl and smashed him over the head with a big stick. That’s my girl! ;) However news of her boinking Parker did get back to Angel via the spiteful and clearly jealous Spike. Poor old Angel! Parker was never a real threat to their love, no where near good looking enough! Plus he's just a stupid user and I have to say the only thing Riley ever did right in my eyes was to punch him!

Giles and Joyce - I've put these two together as they're not a specific threat in a romance way but they both did have their objections to Buffy and Angel's relationship. Giles hated Angel after he killed Jenny and was very angry and disappointed in Buffy when he found out they were back together. Joyce was also one of the influential factors in Buffy and Angel's break up when she came and had her chat to Angel. They both were acting as their roles as "father" and mother. They did prove to be a big downfall in their relationship but a family's objections can't stand in the way of true love.
